Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 79
Looking into Qi Ran’s eyes, Liu Fenyun roughly understood the situation.
“Master, please take me up to the sky first,” she said to Yu Qingyue. “If we still can’t leave, I’ll think of another way.”
As a disciple of the God of Time, Yu Qingyue was perceptive of divine auras. However, she chose to keep this secret for Liu Fenyun. Without asking a single question in front of the others, she immediately manifested her demon form and carried her toward the heavens.
Liu Fenyun opened her system map and watched as the invisible paths slowly extended with the rising of the sea eagle, just as they had when she was sprinting through the forest.
“It’s no use. Thank you, Master.” She immediately asked Yu Qingyue to stop.
Yu Qingyue flapped her wings but didn’t return to the ground right away. Instead, she asked, “Do you know your own identity?”
She used a formal, respectful address, and Liu Fenyun understood immediately. “I know most of it now, but I haven’t recovered much of my memory.”
“The residence of gods is in the God Realm, unless they are undergoing a trial, they cannot casually visit lower plane worlds,” Yu Qingyue explained. “Even during a trial, their memories and strength are sealed. My master is the God of Time when he first arrived in this world, his memories were sealed. Once they returned, his strength followed.”
“For now, your memories aren’t back, so let’s set that aside and focus on the present.” Yu Qingyue slowly descended. “This osmanthus forest is undoubtedly an ancient ruin. It or rather, its guardian has trapped us, perhaps because it sensed the presence of a god. However, the other party doesn’t seem to intend us harm.”
“Then I must meet the guardian and ask for clarity,” Liu Fenyun said. “Master, do you have a way for me to meet them?”
“I apologize, but I have no way to send you there,” Yu Qingyue replied. “However, if you have a teleportation mark, perhaps you can meet the guardian.”
Liu Fenyun immediately thought of the lotus mark on Lian Yi’s back. “I understand. I’ll discuss it with Yiyi.”
Lian Yi had felt it wouldn’t work even before they took to the sky. Sure enough, the sea eagle returned with Liu Fenyun shortly after.
She didn’t expect Liu Fenyun to come straight to her. Liu Fenyun led her away from the group before explaining, “I need to use the lotus mark to go see the guardian.”
Lian Yi blinked. “How do you want to use it? Smear divine blood directly on the mark? Or like before?”
She had seen Liu Fenyun’s memories and knew that the twice she had teleported within the mental imagery realm, she had ended up in that white clothed woman’s territory.
Liu Fenyun also felt they shouldn’t do it like before. After thinking, she said, “Let’s try applying the blood directly this time.”
Lian Yi agreed quickly. The two set up an isolation barrier around them to avoid being seen.
But as Liu Fenyun prepared to cut her hand, Lian Yi asked, “Can I go with you?”
Every time, she acted as the teleportation array and could only wait for Liu Fenyun to return. She only learned what happened by looking through her memories. Lian Yi didn’t mind being Liu Fenyun’s “tool cat,” but she didn’t want Liu Fenyun to face the unknown alone every time.
Liu Fenyun instinctively felt the guardian didn’t intend to fight. Theoretically, this exchange should be safe. After a few seconds of hesitation, she agreed, then added, “But I don’t know how to take you with me.”
“I know,” Lian Yi smiled. She turned her back to her, slowly removed her upper garment, and revealed the lotus mark on her back. “Let’s begin.”
Liu Fenyun caught a faint sensation, but it vanished instantly. Unable to grasp it, she focused on smearing her blood onto the mark.
Just like in the sea of consciousness, as soon as the lotus mark touched the blood, it absorbed it rapidly. A crimson hue spread along the lines, staining it bit by bit.
Liu Fenyun stared at the reddening lines, feeling very nervous. She feared the guardian might be difficult to talk to, and she feared that she might be the only one teleported again.
When the blood filled the entire pattern of the lotus mark, a blood-mist suddenly rose from it, enveloping them both instantly. A faint lotus fragrance wafted through the air, filling their senses.
Liu Fenyun had never seen this before. In her alarm, she didn’t forget to pull Lian Yi into her arms to protect her.
This was Lian Yi’s first time using the teleportation array in the lower realm, so she was also a bit afraid. But the thought of being held by her beloved A-yun calmed her, and she tightly gripped Liu Fenyun’s hand.
“A-yun, who do you think we’ll see?” she whispered, trying to ease the tension. “An ancient inhabitant? A Great Demon? Or a consciousness left behind by a god?”
Liu Fenyun’s subconscious leaned toward a Great Demon. After all, demons were more sensitive to the aura of gods and were very interested in it. It wouldn’t be strange for one to trap a god.
However, the system had previously told her there were no demons here, only a small human village. Hearing this, she didn’t answer and fell into deep thought.
They soon got their answer. After the blood-mist dissipated, an ice-blue palace appeared before them. Looking up the pure white stairs, they saw a woman sitting on a throne.
Upon entering the hall, Lian Yi felt an irresistible pressure coming from all directions, forcing her to bow her head. Liu Fenyun, however, could look up at the woman. The woman wore a pale blue cheongsam, her snow white hair tied in a long braid draped to the side. She was looking back at her with lazy, grey eyes.
After scanning her, Liu Fenyun instinctively looked at Lian Yi. Curiously, their color palettes were similar both had cool blue and white tones, though the grey-eyed woman’s eyebrows and lashes were still black.
Before Liu Fenyun could speak, the woman on the throne spoke first: “So you’ve finally come?”
Her tone was mixed with ambiguous emotions, it sounded like a reproach, yet also like concern.
Noticing Lian Yi’s reaction, Liu Fenyun gave a polite bow and asked calmly, “Which God might your Excellency be?”
If the other party were a Great Demon or a powerful cultivator, Lian Yi would have been panicking and grabbing onto her, rather than standing in silent submission without any resistance. Therefore, this woman could only be a god.
“This seat… I am the God of Nurturing, Jin Fei.” The woman did not hide it and stated her identity openly. “Leaving this place, it would take about half a month of flying to see the entrance to the Demon Realm. But your conditions are not good, it’s better to stay here a while longer before leaving.”
“Is this ancient ruin an illusion created by you?” Liu Fenyun asked.
“Indeed.” Jin Fei left her throne and walked slowly down the stairs toward them, her gaze intentionally or unintentionally flickering toward Lian Yi. “However, I have no fondness for ordinary demons. In this ruin, aside from necessary food and the spiritual plants required for the illusion, no living creatures will appear.”
Sensing her gaze, Liu Fenyun stepped in front of Lian Yi and nodded, indicating she understood.
Jin Fei naturally noticed the small movement. A long standing habit made her let out a faint sneer as she said coldly, “Being able to enter my divine temple proves you know you are a god. You aren’t the first god to descend to the lower realm for a spiritual pet, but you must understand one thing, the environment of the God Realm does not allow ordinary demons to survive. Even if you use medicine to let your pet take human form in the God Realm, she cannot escape the fate of descending for trials.”
Lian Yi shrunk behind Liu Fenyun, unable to even look up at Jin Fei. This wasn’t just the pressure of a god on an inferior, it was the pressure of a Great Demon on the weak. Although the other party hadn’t revealed a demon form or released a demonic aura, she could still sense the woman was not human.
Liu Fenyun’s memory hadn’t fully recovered, but she already knew she had crossed into this world precisely to bring Lian Yi back. Facing the God of Nurturing’s warning, she replied calmly and firmly, “No matter. Since I chose to accompany her, I will accompany her to the end.”
“Thank you for providing a place for us to rest. Farewell.”
Although this god’s attitude toward her was gentle and polite, Liu Fenyun felt uncomfortable with her voice, her words, and her demeanor, as if the woman had once torn apart and trampled everything she cherished right in front of her.
Therefore, after learning the truth about the osmanthus forest, she chose to leave immediately. Dropping those words, she took Lian Yi’s hand and turned to walk away.
Unexpectedly, she left so decisively. Jin Fei was stunned and instinctively called out, “Wait!”
“When you regain your memory, you’ll know that our relationship is limited to doctor and patient, and we disagree on many things.” Without waiting for Liu Fenyun to stop, she continued, “I don’t want to owe you any favors. This ruin was actually commissioned by the God of Fate; I didn’t provide this convenience for you of my own accord.”
She spoke rapidly, seemingly eager to distance herself.
Liu Fenyun paused. After a few seconds of silence, she turned back and smiled at Jin Fei: “I see. I understand what you mean. Thank you for building it. I appreciate it regardless.”
“Y-You’re welcome!” Jin Fei became embarrassed instead. After speaking hurriedly, she turned back toward the throne.
As Jin Fei walked away, Liu Fenyun saw a lion’s tail slip through the slit of the cheongsam and the human ears hidden in her hair turn into beast ears. Realizing the woman was shy, she couldn’t help but give a helpless smile before leading Lian Yi out of the temple.
Back in the osmanthus forest, Lian Yi let out a long sigh of relief. She pulled her clothes back on and lunged into Liu Fenyun’s arms, saying aggrievedly, “That God of Nurturing is a big white lion. I remember her being very fierce…”
Though her soul had been damaged by the lightning of the Thunder Pool, soaking in Liu Fenyun’s divine aura lately had allowed her to slowly remember bits of the past.
“She seems to look down on ordinary demons, she might be a native of the God Realm.” Liu Fenyun patted her back gently. “Don’t be afraid. I won’t let her hurt you. She said our relationship was limited to doctor and patient, it seems she was likely a regular customer of mine.”
She didn’t finish the thought, but Lian Yi could feel the hidden sharpness in her words. She couldn’t help but giggle, saying half-jokingly, “No wonder that big white lion was so polite to you just now!”
Liu Fenyun laughed with her for a moment, then suddenly placed her hand on Lian Yi’s smooth back and asked, “I also remember you saying you knew how to teleport us both away. Could it be you’ve remembered the origin of this mark?”
Startled by the touch on the lotus mark, Lian Yi shuddered. Then, with a red face, she nodded and explained softly, “It’s a mark I begged from you as a symbol of our bond. Only the true God of Medicine can touch it. If anyone else, god or otherwise touches it, it makes me hurt… even if it’s the God of Medicine without her divine aura recovered, they can’t touch it.”
Hearing this, Liu Fenyun frowned slightly, puzzled. “Why would it make you hurt? Shouldn’t it punish the one touching it?”
Lian Yi was so embarrassed she almost buried her face in Liu Fenyun’s clothes, mumbling, “You know me… I’ve always liked this kind of ‘bad taste’…”
Liu Fenyun: “…”
She seemed to understand why there was a prison cell in the cat’s mental imagery world now.
