Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 50
Lianyi couldn’t remember exactly when she had started enjoying using her own body, Liu Fenyun realized.
All she knew was that Lianyi was increasingly rejecting the identity of the “Seventh Princess,” though she didn’t know whether it was because her memories were slowly returning.
Maomao obediently lay on the couch for a while before crawling onto her lap, resting her chin on the back of Liu Fenyun’s hand, eyes half-closed in contentment. Her snow white tail occasionally twitched, brushing against Liu Fenyun’s hand.
As Liu Fenyun stroked the base of her tail, she suddenly heard Lianyi say, “The festival is in half a month. After that, there will be a ten day holiday. Both the shaman doctor and the saint can go outside. I’ll go with you.”
“Go outside?” Liu Fenyun blinked in surprise and then alarm, thinking, Where?
It couldn’t possibly be Handan Palace, could it?!
“Don’t you want to advance in rank?” Lianyi countered. “The other two shaman-doctors will probably have you go gather herbs. After the summer holiday, you won’t have much time to go out.”
After a brief pause, Liu Fenyun murmured softly, “Am I really that busy…”
But for a physician, working year round wasn’t unusual. Thinking that this kind of long holiday only came once a year, she quickly agreed, “Then I’ll make an appointment with the other two shaman doctors first?”
“I’ll go with you.” Lianyi stretched lazily and reminded her, “Don’t forget Master Sangka’s advice the two shaman doctors will kill any demon they see. If I want to collect herbs with you, I need their permission.”
Liu Fenyun recalled the warning. She instinctively wanted to stop her but, realizing Maomao had probably made up her mind, she knew it would be useless. She could only say, “Since you know they’ll kill any demon, yet you still want to go with me, do you already have a good plan?”
Her hand happened to brush Lianyi’s tail base. Lianyi let out a low, pleased hum and lazily said, “It’s not exactly a good plan, just a little trade. Qiran will also have to come along. If we’re not there, Little Orange and Lihua might not be able to manage her.”
She spoke casually, but Liu Fenyun felt her heart tighten.
Could it be that Maomao was still holding a grudge against Qiran for taking her away without a word?
Liu Fenyun hurriedly said, “It’s fine, my master can watch Qiran…”
“Your master is now a guardian spirit beast and a demon; she can’t be by Luo Binglun’s side every moment anymore.” Lianyi’s tone was indifferent, yet unarguable. “Though our relationship with Luo Binglun isn’t very good, we will still protect her out of respect for your master.”
She paused and asked, half-smiling, “What, A-Yun seems to really dislike being with Qiran?”
Liu Fenyun didn’t dislike her; she was just worried that Maomao and Qiran might fight on the road. She joked, “Then Qiran will just be a ‘third wheel,’ following us around and eating the dog food.”
“Our dog food isn’t good?” The cat on her lap lifted her head, blinking her deep blue eyes, tilting her head in confusion.
Lianyi’s head tilt was dangerously adorable. Liu Fenyun could barely resist, hurriedly replying, “It’s delicious, very delicious!”
“Then let her come along. She can eat plenty on the way.” Lianyi grinned, revealing tiny fangs. “If we happen to meet other demons, it wouldn’t hurt to find her a mate either.”
Liu Fenyun: “…”
She felt like a vinegar jar had just toppled over, spilling everywhere.
After thinking it over, Liu Fenyun decided to take a moment in a couple of days to see her master and clarify Qiran’s preferences, so she could plan accordingly.
Master Yu Qingyue had been patrolling the outskirts of the city these days. Liu Fenyun chased her coordinates under the scorching sun for a long time, gasping for breath before finally catching up.
She found her master just as she flew up to the wall, handing water to the workers repairing it.
The leader of the workers looked fearful and disgusted at the demon, but terrified of Yu Qingyue, muttered thanks, took the water, and started distributing it.
One worker sipped and frowned, cursing in the Diz tribe language: “Damn, it’s salty water! This demon is here to make trouble, right?”
Another, though not cursing, complained: “She ate Doctor Yu, is she trying to curry favor with us?”
“No one wants the favor of a human eating demon!”
Hearing this, Liu Fenyun’s heart ached. She felt sympathy for her master.
Her master, once a healer of the highest order, respected wherever she went, now chose to erase her human identity just to stay by Luo Binglun’s side and mend their fractured relationship.
How humbling.
Liu Fenyun felt her master might have had other choices, yet she ultimately chose the worst path. Now that “Yu Qingyue’s death news” had reached Liuzhi Kingdom, there was no turning back.
Sensing her scent, Yu Qingyue coldly instructed everyone to drink properly before leaping down from the wall.
“Here to see me?” In front of others, Yu Qingyue was always cold.
Liu Fenyun nodded.
The two went straight to the Nightless Tavern and booked a private superior room.
Before going upstairs, Liu Fenyun bought various snacks. Once inside, she laid them out on the table with a bright smile and asked, “Master, what tea would you like?”
“No need. This bowl of fermented cheese will quench my thirst.” Yu Qingyue didn’t bother with pleasantries, washed her hands, sat down, and scooped a spoonful. After a few bites, she asked, “What’s the matter?”
Liu Fenyun quickly explained the plan to bring Qiran out of the city.
Yu Qingyue paused mid-spoon, frowning. “Nonsense. Qiran’s cultivation far surpasses yours. The shaman doctors in charge of evaluation hate demons. Even if you somehow get her to come, if a conflict arises on the road, the disciples of the shaman doctors won’t interfere.”
“I understand what you’re saying,” Liu Fenyun said helplessly. “But Maomao seems to be at odds with Qiran and insists on her coming. And if Qiran stays in the city, she might indeed attack the High Priest.”
Yu Qingyue replied calmly, “It’s still half a month before the holiday. That’s enough time to resolve your misunderstanding.”
They exchanged a silent glance. Liu Fenyun rubbed her forehead. “Honestly, I have no idea how to resolve this misunderstanding.”
Besides, the so-called “secret meeting misunderstanding” was only to placate her master and the High Priest. She hadn’t expected Maomao to take it seriously.
“Pamper her properly, or cater to her tastes,” Yu Qingyue advised.
Liu Fenyun almost cried: “Even throwing myself at her might not make her give up!”
“You’re in such a mood because of a single misunderstanding, which shows how much she cares about you,” Yu Qingyue said, calmly enjoying a piece of translucent rose cake. “Don’t rush. Little by little. Besides, the two shaman-doctors may not even agree to let her come.”
“That’s true…” Liu Fenyun sighed, half-joking, half-serious. “Master, should I just pin my hopes on the two shaman doctors?”
“I don’t have a soft boned disciple like you,” Yu Qingyue said sharply.
Seeing her master about to draw a serious line, Liu Fenyun hurriedly changed the topic. “Master, you’ve traveled extensively. Are there any dangerous places around Zhuohuang Kingdom suitable for testing divination or exorcism skills, with rare herbs or treasures?”
Before settling in Liuzhi Kingdom, Yu Qingyue had traveled almost half the human world, so she was familiar with these dangerous places. She took out paper and pen, drew a simple map marking locations and environments, and explained everything to Liu Fenyun at a leisurely pace.
Once it came to medicine related topics, the master disciple pair could talk endlessly. The five snacks Liu Fenyun bought were eaten up by Yu Qingyue. To gather more information, Liu Fenyun also ordered a bowl of chilled sweet soup.
This information was still locked in the system database, and their departure was approaching. Liu Fenyun dared not risk using favor points.
After the sweet soup was served, Yu Qingyue paused her lecture, sipping half a bowl slowly before asking, “I heard you’ve been learning to dance with the Seventh Princess?”
Remembering the very special dance studio, Liu Fenyun shivered and muttered an “Uh-huh.”
Fortunately, Yu Qingyue was focused on her dessert, not asking more. She simply advised, “It’s midsummer; dress appropriately.”
In Zhuohuang Kingdom, men wore minimal clothing to display their muscles. Liu Fenyun obviously couldn’t wear that, so she said, “I’ll wear the summer clothes you tailored, and the Seventh Prince has also had new clothes made for me. They’ll be delivered in a couple of days.”
Yu Qingyue nodded and asked, “Besides her, does anyone else know you’re a girl?”
Liu Fenyun thought carefully. “Her cat subordinates know, but they’ve all sworn by blood contract to keep the secret. Some, like… Qiran, have doubted me.”
She showed the white jade pendant Yu Qingyue had given her to conceal her aura. “Qiran is really formidable. Without your jade, she would have known!”
Looking at the pendant, Yu Qingyue added another spell and reminded her: “The shaman-doctors’ strength is no less than a Great Demon. Be careful when meeting them.”
At the same time, in the Saintess Hall’s Drunken Life Pavilion, chaos reigned.
Qiran had thrown a wooden table and caught a flying teapot, placing it back on the table, narrowing her red eyes, looking utterly helpless at Lianyi.
“I say, little kitty, what do you want to ask me? Why not go to your husband directly, instead of causing trouble while he’s out?” She folded her hands and sighed. “Or do you feel beating me up would be more satisfying?”
Lianyi’s expression darkened, her deep blue eyes fierce.
She had been chasing and smashing things without speaking. Now she finally spoke: “Those words… are they true?”
“I don’t know how much you’ve heard, Your Highness,” Qiran shrugged. “Even if it’s true, you wouldn’t believe me. Why waste words?”
“Do you have proof that A-Yun is a deity from the upper realm?” Lianyi asked, staring at her.
“Just being able to communicate with the flower spirits in Handan Palace is proof,” Qiran said, pacing slowly, surveying the wrecked room. “Wow, I didn’t realize you despised humans so much. Such a treasure, and you smash it without blinking.”
“Why are you taking A-Yun to the demon world?” Lianyi ignored her remark.
“Because there are gods in the demon world. If she really is a god, she might recall something there.”
“Do gods not have conflicts or disputes? Can they meet and immediately become brothers?” Lianyi sneered. “You clearly want her dead, yet she trusts you so much!”
Qiran felt there was no point in arguing. Words were not her strength. She said, “If you don’t believe me, fine. Your husband probably won’t go to the demon world for now. Just wait for her memory to return.”
The word “memory” struck Lianyi like a needle, and a wave of loneliness from past nightmares surged.
Frowning, she grabbed a nearby celadon vase and swung it.
“Stop smashing! Ancestor, oh my!” Qiran cried, catching the vase. “This is my place; if you break everything, I’ll make you pay!”
Lianyi ignored her and resumed smashing recklessly.
She had no idea what to make of it. If Liu Fenyun was a god, what was she? A divine pet? A loyal servant? Once their memories returned, could they continue living as they did now?
She was scared afraid to recall the past, and afraid that the past was extraordinary.
“Alright, aren’t you just worried about your past relationship? I’ll teach you a tricky move, okay?” Qi Ran, scared of her, shouted from the other side of the courtyard, “During this period, just act as much as you want, but don’t tell Lord Wuyi. Consider it a test. If you keep acting recklessly and can still be pampered by your husband, then you’re definitely his spiritual companion or his Dao partner!”
Lianyi paused in the middle of picking up a clay pot.
