Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 34.1
“Wasn’t it you who said not to interfere?” Lianyi replied. “I have no interest in the High Priest’s fate.”
Liu Fenyun was confused. “What’s going on? Wasn’t the High Priest sick, but poisoned?”
She had only guessed casually, but all three of their gazes were fixed on her.
“…Cough, cough… As you said, I have indeed been poisoned,” Luo Binglun finally said slowly. “The poison is called ‘Xian Yun.’ It is rare in the human realm, and the antidote is nearly impossible to find.”
“‘Xian Yun,’ you say?” Liu Fenyun immediately instructed the system to search, quickly scanning the results. She blurted out, “I’ve seen this poison in ancient texts. All the herbs needed for an antidote grow in the demon realm truly hard to obtain. But if we administer an injection and use demonic energy to guide the inner breath, it can substitute for the antidote and force the toxin out.”
She spoke too quickly, and Yu Qingyue didn’t have time to stop her. Her eyes changed instantly.
Luo Binglun was also momentarily stunned.
Ever since Yu Qingyue arrived, her symptoms had indeed been alleviating day by day. Yet, Yu Qingyue had repeatedly told her that ordinary medicine could not effectively suppress Xian Yun and had often suggested that she leave Zhuohuang Kingdom to search for the antidote.
If ordinary medicine is basically ineffective, then… why is her body recovering?
A thought quickly flashed through Luo Binglun’s mind, but she suppressed it herself.
Impossible.
Qingyue had always been human, ever since she was young. She could not possibly be a demon!
Thinking of this, Luo Binglun let out a cold laugh: “If only demonic energy can detoxify, then I might as well die!”
Liu Fenyun hadn’t really hoped that Luo Binglun would accept this treatment plan, so she simply nodded and didn’t insist further.
With her master here, even without an antidote, prolonging life is certainly possible.
Moreover, she didn’t believe her master would stand by and do nothing. If the High Priest really were on the brink of death, her master would certainly channel demonic energy to save her.
“Then how did the High Priest get poisoned?” Liu Fenyun changed the subject. “Ancient texts record that Xian Yun is usually used by demons. Did you offend another demon?”
“Isn’t there one right now?” Lianyi said, a trace of fear in her voice. “Honestly, I’ve never smelled such heavy bloodlust on a demon before.”
Liu Fenyun understood and looked at Luo Binglun.
Yu Qingyue then spoke: “I came here to resolve this matter. Since you have already encountered it and sought my protection to leave the Jiayao Hall, you must know that you need to find a way to avoid it.”
“Master, don’t you need help?” Liu Fenyun couldn’t help but ask. “That demon must have already killed many people. It probably isn’t easy to deal with.”
“When have I ever said I want to deal with it?” Yu Qingyue’s voice was cold.
Liu Fenyun clicked her tongue and deliberately replied, “Indeed, you never said it. I was only asking assume you didn’t hear.”
She knew her master’s temper well. If that demon had poisoned Luo Binglun with a deadly toxin, her master wouldn’t just deal with it she’d capture it, imprison it, and torment it thoroughly.
But Liu Fenyun also knew that her master was playing a role for Luo Binglun’s sake. Since Luo Binglun was poisoned and needed rest, she wouldn’t have the energy to care about the demon’s whereabouts.
Back in the Morning Star Hall, Lianyi changed into her pajamas, skipped the bath, and lay on the bed in a daze.
“I don’t feel at ease.” Seeing Liu Fenyun approaching, Lianyi whispered and hugged her tightly. “A Yun, do you think that evil demon will come here?”
“Your Highness, don’t be afraid.” Liu Fenyun patted her back and closed her eyes, starting to cast a spell to set up warning barriers.
As a human, she hadn’t sensed the demon’s threat just now, and thus didn’t understand why Lianyi was so afraid.
“A Yun, do you think that demon is from here, or was it brought in by someone from the palace?” Lianyi asked while nestled in her arms.
Liu Fenyun thought for a moment. “I recall that before spring, Miss Xian mentioned that a young physician had entered the Fourth Princess Sha Xiaoman’s hall.”
Lianyi remembered it, her pale blue eyes narrowing.
“I think that demon has something to do with the Fourth Princess,” Liu Fenyun said. “But that’s just my guess, no evidence.”
“You don’t know that the Fifteenth Princess and the Fourth Princess are sworn enemies,” Lianyi said gravely. “If that demon is close to the Fifteenth Princess, it wouldn’t act for the Fourth Princess.”
“What happened between the Fifteenth Princess and the Fourth Princess?”
“The Fifteenth Princess’s mother was from the Luo family,” Lianyi explained. “She was framed by the Fourth Princess and her mother and died unjustly. If the Tenth Prince’s mother hadn’t been indebted to the Luo family and taken the young Fifteenth Princess in, she wouldn’t have survived to this age!”
These memories came from her original body. As Lianyi sorted them, she felt how terrifying human hearts could be and understood why stories often warn against getting involved with royalty.
Liu Fenyun listened, sighing. No wonder the little princess was so wary of everyone, her eyes sharp like a lone wolf there was such a tragic past behind her.
“Maybe we can start with the Fifteenth Princess,” Liu Fenyun pondered. “She knows I don’t reject demons and that I’m a physician.”
“The whole nation knows you married a demon shaman,” Lianyi teased.
“Exactly. Because everyone knows, this makes things easier. If that demon gets injured, the Fifteenth Princess will definitely come find me.”
Lianyi shivered. “Who could possibly harm it?!”
“You don’t really think Master is doing nothing, do you?” Liu Fenyun smiled, teasing.
Late at night, when the lights went out and the palace was empty, a fierce battle raged in the empty Handan Hall.
Yu Qingyue wiped the blood off her feather blade and stared at the black cloaked figure shrouded in dark mist at the other end of the corridor.
Blood was everywhere, and the hall was thick with a pungent metallic scent.
“Don’t think you can escape!” Yu Qingyue’s voice was sharp and piercing, unlike when she was human.
As she threw her feather blade, the black-clothed figure vanished silently, leaving a puddle of blood behind.
Yu Qingyue advanced, retrieved her blade, and threw it again.
A gust of bloody wind struck her from behind. She didn’t turn her wings spread suddenly, each feather turning into a sharp blade, piercing the demon’s bloodthirsty mouth.
The failed ambush demon roared, tossing Yu Qingyue aside. Its huge body broke two pillars.
Yu Qingyue gripped her feather blade and swooped down, slashing at its neck. “Crack!” the dark mist shielding it shattered.
Soon, a battered black panther appeared in Yu Qingyue’s sight, slowly taking human form, becoming a woman in dark guard attire.
“We’re both demons, kindred, why chase me relentlessly?” the panther asked, swallowing the blood.
Yu Qingyue didn’t answer, raising her feather blade: “You’re Qi Ran, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” the leopard demon admitted, surprise flashing in her crimson eyes. “Why, after all this fighting, must we announce ourselves?”
Her figure disappeared, but Yu Qingyue didn’t look. She swung her blade metal clashed with claws, leaving only afterimages, neither losing ground.
“So, Feather Tribe, who are you? Are you Senior Sister Qing?” Qi Ran dodged five feather blades, lowering her voice. “You don’t seem to want to kill me. Did Master send you?”
Yu Qingyue didn’t reply, her blade moving faster and faster.
This demon had been the wife of Kongmeng City’s lord and her disciple. They studied medicine and magic together, making Qi Ran her junior sister.
Qi Ran had lost control during cultivation, killed dozens in the city, stolen the deadly poison Xian Yun, and fled in fear. Yu Qingyue had come to the human realm to bring her back for punishment.
But now, Qi Ran was involved in human affairs, and Yu Qingyue couldn’t take her away yet.
“Hand over the Xian Yun.” Yu Qingyue said coldly.
“Fine, I’ll give it to you,” Qi Ran hurriedly said. “But you have to let me go. Someone is waiting for me. After I clean up this mess, I’ll return to Master and apologize!”
“Give me the Xian Yun, and I’ll let you go.” Yu Qingyue responded.
A metallic clink sounded at her feet. She looked down a small porcelain bottle lay on the ground, tightly sealed.
After handing over the poison, Qi Ran exhaled black smoke at Yu Qingyue.
The black smoke was toxic. Yu Qingyue stepped back, deliberately letting her escape.
Once Qi Ran disappeared in Handan Hall, Yu Qingyue dispersed the smoke and picked up the porcelain bottle.
The next morning, Lian Yi still lingered in bed. Liu Fenyun carried a lunchbox to the Hundred Meals Hall.
They could have sent servants to fetch food, but Liu Fenyun was thinking of Fifteenth Princess Sha Ru Lang and decided to try her luck.
The hall was quiet at this hour. With three days before the spring hunt competition and after the fatigue of traveling and attending the banquet, most royalty were still resting.
Liu Fenyun saw the Fifteenth Princess Sha Rulang. Surprisingly, she was alone. Last night’s embroidered ceremonial dress had been replaced with plain black clothes. She was hunched over a bowl of lamb noodle soup.
Liu Fenyun pretended not to see her and continued getting her own food.
She felt the young princess’s gaze.
A sound of footsteps followed her. When Liu Fenyun reached the hall’s exit, her sleeve was suddenly tugged.
“Fifteenth Princess?” Liu Fenyun looked down, feigning surprise, then smiled. “Good morning, Your Highness.”
“Shaman Physician, can you treat external injuries?” Sha Rulang ignored her greeting, speaking anxiously.
Liu Fenyun thought, She’s taken the bait, and nodded.
Her hand felt a chill. She looked down a finely crafted blue jade piece.
“Shaman Physician, please save my friend!” Sha Rulang pleaded.
Author’s Note: Sha Rulang first appeared in “Today Again, Supporting the Family Cat in Quick Transmigration”, in the fourth mission. She has a CP and a happy ending. Here, Sha Rulang is still a minor girl.
