Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 114
Regarding Liu Fenyun’s explanation, Chong Yun did not doubt her, but couldn’t help asking: “But there are demons in the Forbidden Area. You’re telling me this in private, are you planning to go there alone?”
Liu Fenyun hesitated for a moment and nodded. “I don’t want to involve anyone else.”
“Does ‘anyone else’ include Lady Lianyi?” Chong Yun frowned slightly. “If I may be blunt…”
“If she knew, she would definitely stop me,” Liu Fenyun cut her off. “Please keep this a secret for me. It’s not that I don’t trust anyone; I just don’t want to burden anyone, including her.”
Chong Yun didn’t respond immediately. She stared at her for a moment and whispered, “Are all gods like this? Shouldering everything silently when something goes wrong?”
Liu Fenyun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Not necessarily. I’m just used to it.”
“Have you considered Lady Lianyi’s feelings?” Chong Yun asked again, her face darkening. “Keeping her in the dark just because you know she’ll stop you… I don’t think that’s how partners should treat each other. You shouldn’t use Lady Lianyi’s unconditional trust to deceive her.”
Seeing Liu Fenyun stunned, she paused, perhaps feeling she had overstepped. “Of course, this is just my perspective as a mortal. You don’t have to take it to heart. I will keep your secret and escort you to the Forbidden Area.”
Liu Fenyun fell silent. As Chong Yun turned to leave, she hurried to catch up and whispered, “Do you think… I’m deceiving Yiyi?”
Chong Yun wasn’t sure why she was asking, but she nodded truthfully. “Yes, that is what I believe. It’s normal for partners to have disagreements or even fights. No matter how good the relationship is, there’s a ‘grinding-in period’ where communication is needed to find a balance. You shouldn’t just do whatever you want without considering the other person’s feelings. I don’t know how gods love, but this is how we mortals do it.”
Liu Fenyun fell into silence once more.
She had assumed the “cat” (Lianyi) was trying to stop her out of yandere like possessiveness and control, so she instinctively decided to act on her own. Now, her decision was being dismantled by a “normal” person.
“I’ve observed how you and Lady Lianyi interact. To be honest, your relationship seems more like a master and a pet, or an elder and a junior,” Chong Yun continued. “I understand your desire to protect her, but you seem to hold a certain prejudice against her unconsciously. I can’t name it exactly, but it leads to you not fully trusting her.”
Chong Yun knew nothing of the “System” or “yandere” tropes, yet her words struck right at the heart of Liu Fenyun’s internal conflict. Liu Fenyun followed her toward the Elder’s Residence, lost in thought.
The Records of the Past
When they entered the residence, Lianyi was standing before a closed door. “Meng Nie has taken the medicine. Repairing the spiritual root will take about eight hours. Let’s go take care of other things first.”
Liu Fenyun didn’t catch her meaning until they left the residence and arrived at the Library of Jingxue Peak. “Are you looking for records on Mu Qingzhong?”
“Yes. We should at least see what kind of demon we’re dealing with, so no innocent lives are lost,” Lianyi said calmly as she stepped inside.
According to the founder Chong Shuo, the scrolls regarding Mu Qingzhong’s fall were on the fifth floor. Lianyi familiarized herself with the guard disciples and led Liu Fenyun upstairs.
“It’s not exactly a secret,” the guard disciple chatted as they walked. “It’s just a bit awkward that the founder had a history with a demon. But our founder practiced the Way of Ruthlessness (Wuqing Dao), she never actually had a ‘thing’ with that demon.”
The records were stored as spiritual slips. Lianyi grabbed Chong Shuo’s personal diary and shoved the official scrolls toward Liu Fenyun. “You read this one.”
The official scrolls were objective. Mu Qingzhong’s fall was attributed to “excessive obsession.” It detailed her crimes: arson, murder, and sowing discord among rising immortal sects. She had pushed the dark side of the demon race to the extreme, causing countless deaths.
Liu Fenyun felt conflicted. As a doctor, should she save such a person? If she didn’t, she’d carry the karma if she did, how could she face the victims who died trying to stop the demon?
Meanwhile, Lianyi was reading the diary. It confirmed that Chong Shuo was indeed “ruthless.” Perhaps if she had humored Mu Qingzhong a little, the tragedy wouldn’t have happened. One didn’t understand love, while the other tried too hard and eventually fell into darkness.
The Confrontation
“Yiyi, do you think a doctor should treat an evil person?” Liu Fenyun asked.
Lianyi looked at her. “You are the Goddess of Medicine; you should have your own answer. Why ask me?”
Liu Fenyun sighed. “I wasn’t given this title because I’ve saved many people.”
“Then just save those you think deserve it.” Lianyi put the scrolls back. “So, are you still planning to go to the Forbidden Area yourself?”
Liu Fenyun froze. Lianyi explained, “You’ve already made the medicine. If you were going to let Chong Yun deliver it, you wouldn’t be asking me these questions.”
Liu Fenyun’s words failed her. Recalling Chong Yun’s advice, she finally managed a soft, “I’m sorry.”
“You know you’ve wronged me?” Lianyi leaned in. “Are you afraid of the karma, or are you just fixated on your duty as a healer?”
“I’m afraid the karma will affect you if I leave,” Liu Fenyun confessed.
“But I’m not afraid,” Lianyi countered. “Even if heaven separates us, you’ll come find me, won’t you?”
Liu Fenyun panicked at the suggestion, but Lianyi silenced her with a sudden, sharp bite on the lips. The taste of blood was bitter. “I still can’t get used to the taste of your divine blood,” Lianyi grumbled.
The Secret Meeting
While Liu Fenyun was busy refining a new “de-demonization” pill she found in the diary, Lianyi slipped away to the Forbidden Area alone.
She timed it perfectly. According to the records, the seal forced Mu Qingzhong into a deep sleep every fourteen days. Using her artifacts, the Five Thunder Decree and the Wuyuan Fan. Lianyi bypassed the dangers of Xiaochou Valley and reached the Reincarnation Sky Pool.
“Senior Chong Shuo, a word!” Lianyi called out.
The ghost of the founder appeared. “Why are you here alone?!”
“If I didn’t come, my master would have,” Lianyi flicked her tail. “She saw the recipe in your diary and is making the medicine now.”
Chong Shuo looked pained. “Please tell her not to waste her time… she will never take that medicine.”
“If she refuses to turn back, why do you keep her alive?” Lianyi challenged. “Did you, a practitioner of the Way of Ruthlessness, actually fall for Mu Qingzhong?”
Chong Shuo was speechless. She had failed her path because of her feelings, and the “tragedy” of their imprisonment was, in a way, her own choice.
“Nonsense…” Chong Shuo muttered. However, she accepted a contract pearl from Lianyi, vowing to keep others away, before unceremoniously dumping the cat-demon back into the teleportation array to send her home.
