Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 111
“Regarding this issue, asking your senior disciples would be more reliable than asking me,” Liu Fenyun said helplessly. “Moreover, everyone’s physical constitution is different. Even if I tell you how to prevent it now, there’s no guarantee it will be effective when the time comes. Even if I don’t return to the God Realm, I’ll be staying in the Demon Realm, which is far from here. You should understand the saying that ‘distant water cannot put out a nearby fire.'”
Chong Yun said embarrassedly, “You have a point… but I’m truly not good at diplomacy. If it were my Master here today instead of you, I’d subconsciously choose to ask my Master as well…”
When Liu Fenyun possessed her, she naturally inherited her memories and knew she suffered from social anxiety. Thus, she said, “This is something you can overcome slowly. You’ve accepted the inheritance and become an Elder, there will be many such matters in the future. Even if there weren’t, as a physician, you can’t stay in your room forever.”
Chong Yun gave a dejected “oh,” withdrew the soundproof barrier, and said, “Then I’ll listen to you. I’ll do some mental preparation and ask… the other Elders tomorrow morning.”
Liu Fenyun nodded. Seeing her about to leave, she asked, “Have you settled Meng Nie yet?”
“Yes, she went to the neighboring peak. As soon as her spiritual root is repaired, she can formally apprentice and enter the sect.” Chong Yun pulled open the door. “You two get some good rest. When you’re ready to repair A-Nie’s spiritual root, come find me at the Elders’ residence. Until then, I promise no one will disturb you.”
As Chong Yun’s footsteps faded into the distance, Liu Fenyun lit a spiritual lamp, reset the soundproof barrier, and said to Lian Yi, “You rest first. I need to go back to the medicinal garden to organize some herbs.”
“No, I’m going with you.” Lian Yi immediately hugged her arm tightly. “I also want to take a hot bath with you…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the scenery before her eyes changed abruptly.
Setting the “clinging cat” aside, Liu Fenyun brought out the bathtub they had used before. With just a thought, the tub was filled with hot water at the perfect temperature.
With another thought, many flower petals appeared out of thin air on the water’s surface, and a refreshing, light fragrance wafted over along with the steaming mist.
Looking at the floral bath, Lian Yi was incredibly surprised. “You’re so powerful now that you don’t even need to boil water?!”
“The medicinal garden is a space I originally created. As long as the items are within the garden, I can turn them into any form purely through my will.” Liu Fenyun pointed a finger, and the bathtub slowly floated toward a nearby room. “Of course, the prerequisite is that our relationship hasn’t broken down.”
Although the medicinal garden was her space, its internal stability was maintained by the cat’s favorability. Now that the cat’s favorability had reached its maximum value, she was able to use her divine authority to call upon everything in the garden.
Lian Yi didn’t yet know about the system’s existence and blinked in confusion. Even after soaking in the water with Liu Fenyun, she still hadn’t figured out why.
Cats don’t like water, but after living as a human in the lower realm for several years, she quite enjoyed bathing, especially with her lover.
Liu Fenyun was seriously circulating her spiritual energy and breathing to absorb the spiritual energy contained within the petals when she felt a tuft of fluff brush against her. It was Lian Yi’s cat ears. Immediately after, Lian Yi leaned her whole body into Liu Fenyun’s embrace.
Gazing at the cat in her arms playing with the petals, Liu Fenyun’s eyes reflected a soft tenderness.
She proceeded to give the cat a full body massage, kneading from the cat ears all the way to the tail. Lian Yi narrowed her eyes in comfort, leaning back in her arms with her head slightly tilted.
Only after the cat was thoroughly happy did Liu Fenyun ask cautiously, “When do you want to take the medicine?”
She had come here specifically to gather the “Grief Be Gone” herb for the cat. Since the cat’s blackened value hadn’t dropped to zero yet, she naturally kept the matter of feeding her the medicine in mind.
The moment she spoke, Liu Fenyun felt the cat in her arms shiver. Then, Lian Yi flipped over, circled her neck, and lay propped against her shoulder.
“Do I really have to take it?” Lian Yi asked in a small voice. “I haven’t been acting out these past few days.”
As she spoke, she pinched and rubbed Liu Fenyun’s earlobe, causing Liu Fenyun to shrink her neck. Looking at the cat whose deep blue eyes were welling with tears, and then at the motionless blackened value on the favorability panel, Liu Fenyun gave an awkward but sincere smile and answered, “You must take it.”
Then she got scratched by the cat.
Lian Yi was quite rowdy this time. While venting her dissatisfaction, she didn’t forget to bully her. Liu Fenyun couldn’t hold her off, and the bathtub almost tipped over from the commotion.
“And you call this not acting out!” Liu Fenyun finally pinned the cat down. Looking at the water and petals splashed all over the floor, she couldn’t help but want to let out a marmot-like scream. “Didn’t we already agree on this before coming here to pick the herbs? Why the sudden change of heart about taking the medicine?”
The cat, who had been turned back into her original form, was lying on her shoulder. As long as her hind paws touched a bit of water, she would immediately kick upward, and with each kick, she couldn’t help but leave scratch marks on Liu Fenyun.
After finally finding a position where she wouldn’t slide down, Lian Yi suddenly asked, “After I take the medicine, will I forget a part of the past?”
“Yes, but those past events are the source of your pain and the culprits that turned you into who you are now.” Liu Fenyun stroked the cat’s fur and said with certainty, “Don’t be afraid. Once the medicine takes effect, I will enter your sea of consciousness to observe. I won’t let it erase the good memories.”
“But, once I’ve forgotten those things, will I still be me?” Lian Yi pressed closer to her, questioning, “Does A-Yun still remember me from before I descended to the mortal realm? Back then, I was a complete spiritual pet, but now… I’ve experienced so much. I am no longer who I originally was. And those bad memories mostly come from the mortal realm. Taking medicine to erase those memories, isn’t that the same as erasing my entire existence in the mortal realm?”
Without waiting for Liu Fenyun to explain, she continued, “A-Yun, do you remember how I took human form back then?”
Liu Fenyun had recovered a lot of her memory and naturally remembered. Back then, she and the God of Time had hidden it from the Supreme God to develop a Human Transformation Pill. After giving it to Lian Yi, she took human form.
But that pill had a very strong side effect, manifested in her human form as albinism of her hair. Whether it had any effect on Lian Yi’s mental state was unknown, as so much time had passed.
In truth, the God Realm allowed spiritual pets to take human form. However, for a mortal demon to take human form according to the “Laws of Heaven,” they had to undergo a tribulation in the lower realm before obtaining the opportunity.
The pill Liu Fenyun refined back then did allow Lian Yi to skip the tribulation step at the time. However, since she met Lian Yi in the lower realm, it meant Lian Yi had not escaped the constraints of the “Laws of Heaven.”
“Don’t forget, I am a God’s spiritual pet, and I didn’t take human form through conventional means.” Lian Yi reminded her. “If A-Yun insists on making me take the medicine, please think twice. If my ‘tribulation’ experience in the mortal realm is reset to zero and accidentally triggers a new cycle…”
She paused deliberately, then said eerily, “Everything will have to start from the beginning.”
Liu Fenyun stroked the cat’s fur, falling into deep thought.
Fifteen minutes later, inside the temple of the God of Fate.
“What a coincidence, I happen to be resting.” Looking at the grim faced Liu Fenyun, the God of Fate smiled and handed over a freshly brewed coffee. “What is it this time?”
Liu Fenyun took the coffee, holding it in her hands as she asked, “What is Yi Yi’s current status? Is she undergoing a tribulation?”
The God of Fate, whether she noticed the abnormality or not, took a sip of coffee and said as calmly as usual, “Strictly speaking, yes. However, her situation is a bit special. The duration of her tribulation can be counted directly toward yours.”
“Then, what if she forgets everything in the mortal realm?”
“If she forgets everything, that portion of the tribulation duration will be voided,” the God of Fate said. “If you have something to ask, just ask directly.”
“Is Yi Yi making up for her human-transformation tribulation?” Liu Fenyun stared at her intently.
“According to the old system, yes,” the God of Fate said. “While you were away, many things happened in the God Realm. We worked together to change many old systems, including the rule that mortal demons must undergo a tribulation in the lower realm to take human form.”
“So, if she wants to forget, it is entirely possible and she won’t suffer any punishment for it. It’s just that the forgotten portion of time won’t be counted toward your tribulation duration. You’ll have to find a way to make up your own tribulation time, as that is the assessment standard. And she will continue to be your spiritual pet just like before, she simply won’t be promoted to a Divine Envoy, that’s all.”
After hearing this, Liu Fenyun took a sip of coffee to calm her nerves and began to deliberate carefully.
“What is the difference between her being my spiritual pet and being my Divine Envoy?” she asked after a moment.
“The difference is likely the identity change from a pet to a subordinate,” the God of Fate said. “I remember when Yi Yi was still in the God Realm, she seemed to want to escape her identity as a spiritual pet. Although she became a demon later on, she developed her spiritual intelligence very early. Now that she has used a human body and experienced so many things, I imagine she’s even less willing to just be a pet.”
“If she forgets the painful memories and then I take her to practice in that mortal realm or somewhere else for a while to make up the required tribulation time, can she be promoted to a Divine Envoy?” Liu Fenyun asked.
“Under the new system, this is feasible, and some Gods have already succeeded,” the God of Fate said. “However, you two have already entangled too much karma in the current mortal realm. To make up the tribulation time, you’d have to switch to a different world for it to take effect. Alternatively, I can add a mission-issuing function to the system bound to you. Are you interested in taking Yi Yi on ‘quick wear’ (transmigration) missions?”
“I’ll let Yi Yi choose that for herself.” Liu Fenyun put down her coffee cup and said solemnly, “I only hope she can be safe and happy for the rest of her life.”
Her spiritual consciousness returned to her body. Liu Fenyun was about to ask Lian Yi, but when she looked down, she saw that the cat had already fallen fast asleep in her arms. Her breathing was even, and a sweet smile hung on her face.
“What kind of beautiful dream are you having…” Liu Fenyun muttered to herself. She kissed the cat’s ear, unable to bear waking her. She simply dressed her slightly exposed body, pulled up the quilt that had slid off the couch, and covered her well.
The cat’s tail, exposed haphazardly, was tucked into the quilt. In her sleep, Lian Yi let out a slightly displeased gurgle and subconsciously burrowed deeper into Liu Fenyun’s embrace.
To avoid waking the cat, Liu Fenyun had once again transferred the discomfort of the teleportation onto herself. Consequently, she was very weak at the moment. When Lian Yi burrowed into her arms without restraint while dreaming, it actually caused a surge of blood and qi in her chest.
Yet, Liu Fenyun didn’t make a sound. She gently patted the back of the cat in her arms and, enduring the discomfort, slowly closed her eyes.
