Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 107
After such a long time, Mu Qingzhong’s memories had become blurred. The light orbs containing her past were dim, even though Liu Fenyun had found them, she couldn’t discern much content.
“She was a victim of that founding ancestor’s ‘slaying the wife to attain the Dao,'” Liu Fenyun said, her brows furrowing after examining several light orbs. “However, the founding ancestor must have truly loved her. After leaving her a sliver of life, he sent her into this ancient ruin so she could use the spiritual and turbid energy to heal her wounds.”
“How can such a path to Dao exist?!” Lian Yi was shocked. “Did the founding ancestor really love her? Or did he approach the Valley Master and cultivate feelings just to sacrifice her for his breakthrough?”
Liu Fenyun shook her head, gathering the checked orbs. Looking toward the Purgatory Illusion nearby, she said, “Only they know if there was true love. The Valley Master was wounded thousands of years ago. Demons can live very long lives, but even as cultivators, humans cannot achieve true immortality. They can only extend a few decades of life into centuries or millennia. Beyond that, they must ascend to the upper realm to further extend their lifespan.”
“Meaning that founding ancestor either succeeded and ascended, or died of old age?” Lian Yi stared at the light orbs. Upon receiving Liu Fenyun’s nod, she asked, “Then how do you plan to treat the Valley Master’s heartache?”
“If she truly doesn’t want to remember, the best cure is to forget,” Liu Fenyun replied. “But they were in love, and she came here because of that betrayal. If she forgets everything, she will undoubtedly choose to leave.”
“Isn’t leaving this place of sorrow a good thing?” Lian Yi asked, puzzled.
Liu Fenyun sighed. “Didn’t Madam Chong say the last group who entered the forbidden zone all died? A demon with significant cultivation living in a sect’s forbidden land… if she appears now, those sects that lost disciples will likely pin all the blame on her.”
In this world of thinning spiritual energy, training cultivators was difficult. If a “culprit” appeared, especially a demon, no sect would miss the chance to strike.
Having been a Saintess for four years, Lian Yi knew the darkness of the human heart. She frowned. “Then let’s just tell the Valley Master we can’t cure her heartache.”
“We should still tell her. Whether she leaves is up to her. We are here to heal, nothing more.” Liu Fenyun didn’t want to stay in this purgatory a moment longer and led Lian Yi away.
Back on the warm stone bench, Liu Fenyun described Mu Qingzhong’s condition.
Mu Qingzhong already knew where her injuries were, but lacking medical knowledge, she had relied on breathing exercises for years to heal slowly. She didn’t listen intently until Liu Fenyun mentioned her former lover. Her expression shifted.
“I don’t plan to forget her, nor do I want to leave this ruin,” Mu Qingzhong said coldly. “I never betrayed those years of affection, yet she cut it off so easily, treating me as a stepping stone on her path, killing me as she pleased…”
“When I recovered back then, I didn’t leave. I stayed here waiting for her to return, waiting for her to explain it to me personally. I even thought that whether she apologized or used sweet words to coax me again, I would accept it.” Mu Qingzhong stroked the warm stone bed, a flash of hatred crossing her eyes. “But she never came. She probably forgot about me after throwing me here to rot, chasing her so-called ‘Great Dao’.”
She spoke calmly now, but Liu Fenyun knew the betrayal of a lover was a permanent scar. Time could fade it, but it couldn’t erase the resentment of one determined to remember.
Liu Fenyun changed the subject: “I will heal your physical wounds, but you must promise not to trouble the people of Qingmu Immortal Mountain once you are recovered.” She feared Mu Qingzhong would go on a massacre, “slaying the wife to attain Dao” was the ancestor’s sin, and his descendants might not even know.
“You needn’t worry about that. If I wanted to act, I would have done so long ago,” Mu Qingzhong smiled. “However, I know nothing of alchemy. I’m afraid I must trouble you, Lord Divine Physician.”
Seeing her smile, Lian Yi grew alert, but Liu Fenyun accepted quickly: “It’s no trouble, but the Valley Master must allow me to collect some spiritual herbs from the ruins as payment.”
“Take what you wish.” Mu Qingzhong condensed a pitch-black bead at her fingertip and flicked it toward Liu Fenyun. “This is my refined demonic energy. As long as you or your spirit pets carry it, you won’t trigger any formations.”
Liu Fenyun took the bead, wrote the prescription, and provided a copy in the demon language. Then, she quickly led Lian Yi out of the cave. Though the system didn’t signal a change in “blackening values,” her intuition told her the “cat” was getting jealous.
“We’re leaving soon,” Liu Fenyun whispered, hugging Lian Yi as they distanced themselves from the cave.
“How soon?” Lian Yi pulled away, testing her.
“We leave as soon as we finish gathering herbs,” Liu Fenyun said firmly. “I’ll leave the alchemy to Chong Yun. She’s been cooped up so long she’s about to grow mushrooms; I’ll give her something to do.”
“Aren’t you afraid Mu Qingzhong will stop us?”
“She won’t,” Liu Fenyun smiled confidently. “There is a basic level of trust between a patient and their doctor.”
Lian Yi remained skeptical and pinched her. “You’re a ‘God’ now that everyone wants to claim. Pay more attention!”
As they walked and chatted by a stream, Liu Fenyun suddenly stopped. Lian Yi accidentally bumped into her back, nearly pushing her into the water.
“What’s wrong?” Lian Yi asked, rubbing her forehead.
Liu Fenyun pulled her away from the stream, took a delicate box from her medicine garden space, and opened it. “Something good was ‘air-dropped’.”
Inside was the Green Ghost Lotus previously given to the God of Fate. It had been transformed into a ring. The petals felt soft to the touch, as if a real lotus were growing from the band. The “product manual” had been sent to Liu Fenyun’s consciousness.
Without hesitation, Liu Fenyun slipped the ring onto Lian Yi’s ring finger and pressed her forehead against Lian Yi’s to transfer the instructions and incantations.
The “cat” was stunned by the sudden gesture. After receiving the mental manual, she bit Liu Fenyun’s ear lightly. “This is a ring! How can you be so lacking in a sense of ceremony?”
Liu Fenyun had been too excited and realized her blunder. She stood frozen as the small teeth grazed her ear.
“Are you a block of wood?” Lian Yi poked her cheek. “Are you listening?”
“I’m listening!” Liu Fenyun said awkwardly. Looking at the ring, she asked, “Should I… take it off and put it on again?”
“No! You can’t just take it off and redo it!” Lian Yi shook her head. “This time doesn’t count. We’ll treat this as a decorative ring. But when you give me a wedding ring, you better not be like this!”
The cat wagged her white tail, emphasizing her point.
Liu Fenyun hadn’t intended this to be the wedding ring, that would be too lazy. Putting it on the ring finger was just her way of “claiming” her. Relieved, she picked up the cat and spun her around. “Of course! The wedding ring must have a proper ceremony!”
They turned their attention to the Green Ghost Lotus Ring. To compensate Lian Yi, the God of Fate had made it a multi-functional artifact. It could transform into a weapon, armor, or even a flying vessel with the right incantation.
Lian Yi tested the flying lotus platform. After hovering for a bit and gaining confidence, she invited Liu Fenyun up.
“Let’s get the ‘Unseen Sorrow’ herb first,” Liu Fenyun directed. “I won’t feel settled until it’s in my hands.”
With Mu Qingzhong’s demonic bead, they bypassed the ancient forests and lightning zones without a hitch. It felt like a scenic tour.
Inside the medicine garden space, the God of Cultivation, Jin Fei, woke up from the scent of rare herbs. Seeing rare plants popping into the soil, she asked Liu Fenyun, “The guardian let you scavenge like this?”
“Yeah, a trade,” Liu Fenyun replied. “Anything you need?”
Jin Fei smiled, touching a leaf. “I never lack for plants. You play with your garden. I’m heading back to the God Realm.” She stood up as a teleportation array appeared under her feet. “Bring the cat back soon.”
She didn’t want to admit she was tired of being a third wheel. Even though gods in the upper realm showed affection, this couple was on a different level.
