- Chapter 1 - "Is There Any Part of You I Didn't See Last Night?"
September.
Jingyi International Hotel, Presidential Suite.
“Stand straight.”
The man’s voice was low, raspy, and magnetic as his palm clamped firmly around the thin waist of the girl in front of him.
Her legs were so weak she was sliding downward. If he hadn’t been holding her up, she would have collapsed to her knees on the carpet long ago.
“I, I can’t stand.”
He reached out his other hand, pinching her chin to force her face upward.
“Your legs are this soft? Hmm?”
His breathing was heavy and ragged, the veins visible on the back of his hand lending him an intensely primal, irresistible allure.
“If you can’t stand, lean on me. Don’t kneel.”
The midday sun filtered through the heavy velvet curtains into an intimate amber hue, with a few stray beams squeezing through the gap.
The spots of light climbed up the wall and finally came to rest at the edge of the mattress, illuminating a scene of utter excess.
A dark gray suit jacket hung askew over the bench at the foot of the bed. A silk tie was wrapped tangled around a high heel lying right in the middle of the carpet. A trail of clothes—dress shirt, trousers, socks—stretched all the way from the entryway to the bedside.
As for the woman’s moon-white silk slip dress? It had been torn right down the middle, crumpled in a pathetic ball at the base of the vanity, one of its delicate shoulder straps snapped and hanging limply.
Meng Shuling was curled tightly in Lu Yannan’s arms, her breathing shallow and even.
The duvet was bunched around her hips, leaving her entire bare back exposed to the cool air. Her delicate shoulder blades flared slightly, and faint, sweet red marks trailed from her shoulders all the way down to the small of her back.
She looked like an opened present, half-covered, half-bare, completely oblivious to her own vulnerability.
In her sleep, a warm, humid breath kept brushing against the sensitive skin behind her ear.
Frowning, she tried to turn over and instinctively reached out to push the annoying heat source away.
Her fingertips brushed against a firm, feverish expanse of bare skin.
Before Meng Shuling could realize what she was touching, her wrist was locked in a tight grip.
Immediately after, a low, dangerous voice growled right beside her ear:
“Touch me again, and you won’t be getting out of this bed today.”
Every trace of sleepiness in Meng Shuling was instantly blown to smithereens.
Her eyes snapped open.
Her vision was blurry at first, but quickly refocused—locking onto a pair of deep, unreadable dark eyes.
The owner of those eyes was lying on his side, leaning his head on one hand as he looked down at her. He looked completely languid and relaxed, like a fully sated leopard resting after a hunt.
He had a high brow ridge, a sharp nose bridge, and a sculpted, irresistible jawline.
Lu Yannan stared at her for two long seconds before releasing her wrist. He tossed the blanket aside and got out of bed without the slightest bit of shame or hesitation.
The afternoon sunlight surged into the room unabashedly, lighting up the sheer chaos of the suite.
He stood in the light—tall, broad-shouldered, and lean-waisted. The smooth, powerful muscles of his back flexed as he moved, his lower body barely covered from the hips down.
Bending over, he picked up his black trousers from the floor with unhurried grace. With long, elegant fingers, he zipped them up, buttoned the waist, and pulled his shirt over his shoulders.
As piece after piece of clothing returned to his body, it felt as though he was rebuilding a high wall—locking away the fierce, unrestrained beast who had dominated her in bed last night.
By the time Lu Yannan buttoned his cufflinks and turned around, he was once again the icy, high-and-mighty patriarch of the Lu Corporation.
His indifferent gaze swept over the woman still buried in the blanket staring blankly at him.
“What? Still not fully awake?” He asked coolly.
The sound of his voice sent a sharp shiver straight down Meng Shuling’s spine. Flashbacks of last night rushed into her head all over again.
The dim lights, entangled limbs, and his heavy palm pinned against her waist, refusing to let her run away.
It took her a long moment to squeeze out a raspy, dry sentence:
“Turn around.”
The blanket was barely clinging to her chest, exposing her bare shoulders and collarbones—both covered in deep, lingering marks she couldn’t even bear to look at herself.
Lu Yannan didn’t budge.
He simply stood there, looking down at her panicked expression. After a brief silence, he bent down to retrieve her scattered clothes from the carpet.
Her dress, her lingerie, and a lone earring were casually tossed onto the foot of the bed near her feet.
“Get dressed.”
Meng Shuling reached out to grab the clothes, but when she glanced up, she saw he was still standing right there. His tall frame loomed over her, showing absolutely no intention of looking away.
“Could you please turn around?” Her voice rasped softly.
Lu Yannan locked eyes with her for a few seconds, the corner of his lips twitching almost imperceptibly.
He reached over to the nightstand, pulled a cigarette out of his pack, and popped it between his lips. With a crisp click, a bright orange flame ignited from his lighter.
A plume of light smoke drifted up between his fingers, blurring the sharp angles of his features.
He took a slow drag.
“Is there any part of you I didn’t see last night?”
Meng Shuling’s breath hitched instantly.
Through the hazy smoke, Lu Yannan looked down at her. His eyes lingered for a second on her bare shoulders before shifting away, landing on the face of his wristwatch.
Exhaling a cloud of smoke, he said in an indifferent tone:
“You have three minutes.”
Hiding under the duvet, Meng Shuling watched him standing straight in the sunlight—impeccably dressed, refined, and entirely self-possessed.
Meanwhile, she didn’t even have a single intact piece of clothing. A torn silk dress that looked like a rag and a ruined bra were sitting right next to her hand.
Three minutes later, she finished putting on what she could and stood up.
Meng Shuling had never experienced anything like this before, and her mind was a total mess. But no matter what, she had to handle the man in front of her first.
She pulled out her wallet, took out every single bill inside, and set the thick stack of cash down on the entryway console table.
“I drank too much last night. But don’t worry, President Lu—I’m completely sober now. I’m twenty, not a little girl. I know we’re both consenting adults, and what happened last night was mutual.”
It was just a one-night stand. At dawn, they would go their separate ways. Paying for the room was her way of keeping things clean and dignified.
Lu Yannan leaned casually against the doorframe, an unlit cigarette pinched between his fingers as he rolled it back and forth.
He glanced down at the stack of cash, then raised his gaze to look her dead in the eye.
Reaching out, he plucked the bills off the table, folded them twice with effortless composure, and tucked them directly into her jacket pocket.
“Meng Shuling, you think you can just sleep with me and toss a few bills to brush me off?”
Outside the revolving doors of the Jingyi International Hotel, a white sedan was parked by the curb with its hazard lights blinking.
The front passenger window rolled down, and a woman immediately poked her head out. The moment she spotted Meng Shuling, she shoved the car door open and sprinted over.
“Lingling! You’re finally out!”
Duan Tiantian threw her arms around Meng Shuling, apologizing profusely, desperate to explain what had happened the night before.
“I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry! It’s all my fault!”
Meng Shuling froze in her embrace. Seeing her friend on the verge of tears, half of the frustration in her chest instantly melted away.
Duan Tiantian was her childhood best friend—and also Lu Yannan’s younger cousin. The two had grown up together, but Tiantian had a gentle, timid personality and had always been terrified of her cold, intimidating cousin.
In the entire capital, there was no one who didn’t know the name Lu Yannan.
He was the eldest son of the current generation, the sole heir to a century-old, overwhelmingly powerful dynasty, and the undisputed master of the trillion-dollar Lu Conglomerate.
At a young age, he had graduated with dual degrees from Harvard Business School and the Department of Finance. Within a single year of returning to the country, he had ruthlessly purged the old guard within the corporation and expanded the Lu empire across global markets—spanning real estate, tech, finance, and luxury hospitality.
Jingyi International Hotel itself was merely one of the countless properties under the Lu banner.
He was known for his ruthless tactics, cold temperament, and striking good looks that placed him at the very top of high society. Countless socialites bled themselves dry just trying to get close to him, yet he remained completely indifferent to women, keeping his personal life pristine to the point of harshness.
It was no wonder Duan Tiantian was terrified of him. Meng Shuling was terrified of him, too.
Meng Shuling sighed softly. “What happened? Let go of me first. Do you have any idea what kind of disaster I walked into last night? My brain hasn’t even processed it yet.”
Duan Tiantian knew better than anyone what Meng Shuling had gone through last night—because she was the one who had orchestrated the whole thing!
She blurted out frantically:
“The drink last night—the one that was spiked—it was originally meant for Chen Jiarang!”
Meng Shuling’s footsteps came to a dead halt.
Chen Jiarang was the man she had been secretly in love with for the past six months—and he was also Duan Tiantian’s senior at university.
She had always known that Duan Tiantian wanted to play matchmaker for them, but she never imagined her friend would pull a trick like this.
