Married The Crybaby Childhood Crush First, Then Fell in Love - Chapter 1
The sharp scissors cut through the fabric, making a crisp snip-snip sound.
The weather was gradually turning colder, and the few remaining green leaves outside the window were tinged with a withered yellow, swaying precariously on the branches with a blast of cool wind.
In the teaching building’s corridor, a round orange cat was encountered. It tucked its small paws beneath itself and yawned lazily.
Lin Wanqing secured the cut fabric onto the mannequin with tailor’s pins.
She was a third-year student majoring in fashion design at Y University. The teacher was demonstrating the pattern making method for a petticoat on the stage.
The students sitting at their desks felt their scalps tingle looking at the mannequin, barely able to hold their scissors steady.
“Tulle fabric is too hard to make a petticoat with. If we don’t do it well, we won’t pass. That’s so unreasonable.”
Lin Wanqing, holding the sharp scissors, cut through the resilient white tulle fabric and smiled faintly.
“It’s alright, it’s quite simple.”
Her deskmate nudged Lin Wanqing with her elbow, “I failed the sleeve part several times. It’s so difficult. Can you help me with it, top student?”
The two of them whispered in the back row of the classroom.
Lin Wanqing was famously aloof, not keen on engaging with people, and as cold as a block of ice when she didn’t speak.
Her deskmate’s budding crush was stirring.
She watched the stubborn fabric turn gentle and obedient in Lin Wanqing’s hands. With the needle and thread working, the perfect, textbook-like sleeve shape was revealed.
Even though she appeared so cold, it inexplicably brought to mind the image of a cartoon rabbit sewing clothes.
Lin Wanqing said, “The teacher just demonstrated it.”
Her deskmate made the agonizingly twisted expression of a poor student. “I didn’t learn it.”
Lin Wanqing was silent for a moment, thinking about how to teach her.
To the deskmate, this looked like the top student’s silent exasperation.
Deskmate: “…QAQ”
She felt mocked and regretted trying to talk to the straight-A student.
Lin Wanqing was hailed as the department beauty on the campus forum. Her long, soft hair was scattered over her shoulders, loosely tied back with a scrap of white lace. Her cheeks carried a slight baby fat, and her bright eyes were shielded by crow-feather-like lashes. Her gaze was always gentle as water, and her lips naturally held a three-part smile even when doing nothing. She spoke softly and kindly to everyone.
Her fair fingers threaded the needle and sewed beads and sequins onto the fabric.
It was a tedious task, yet in her hands, it transformed into an aesthetically pleasing romance.
The deskmate put her scissors on the nearby shelf.
“Class is over in ten minutes. Wanqing-jie, want to go to the library with me?”
Lin Wanqing looked troubled. “Sorry, I have to go to my advisor’s office this afternoon.”
She seriously corrected, “We are peers, you don’t need to call me ‘jie’ (older sister).”
The deskmate looked sad and deflated.
“I wonder who will be lucky enough to marry such an excellent jie.”
No one noticed a hint of disappointment flash across Lin Wanqing’s eyes when the word “marry” was mentioned.
Sunlight streamed through the window, and the round orange cat yawned lazily. It was a neutered senior,
Having lost its reproductive mission, it had lost its dreams and grown fat day by day.
“Miao ya!” The cat pushed off with its hind legs, and a tremor ran through the desk, which groaned under the unexpected strain. The orange cat leaped onto the two girls’ desk, its tail whipping into a blur.
The teacher on the stage was accustomed to this, cleared his throat, and continued demonstrating the petticoat’s construction with his pointer.
The orange cat meowed a couple of times and vigorously rubbed its furry little head against Lin Wanqing’s hand, seeking affection.
She often fed the stray cats on campus, and they would expose their bellies to her in a fawning manner as soon as they saw her.
The long cat tail swept across the scissors shelf.
The orange cat purred, squinting its eyes for Lin Wanqing to scratch its chin.
The already shaky shelf was swept by the cat’s tail. The heavy, large fabric scissors lost their balance, and the sharp blades gleamed coldly under the light.
Swish! The scissors fell, and the cat’s pupils shrank to pinpricks.
“Ah! Be careful—!”
In a flash, Lin Wanqing grabbed the cat with her left hand. The scissor tip grazed her arm, leaving a bloody scratch.
The cat let out a hoarse meow, struggled out of Lin Wanqing’s embrace, its fur standing on end from fright.
It seemed to know it had done something wrong and huddled timidly in the corner, whining pitifully.
…
Before class was even over, a post with a “HOT” tag appeared on the forum:
[Hey lesbians, look what I found! Lin Wanqing saved a cat in class. My goddess is still so beautiful and kind-hearted. I love her so much (puckering butt)]
“This is the campus forum, could the楼主 (poster) please restrain yourself? Lin Wanqing was just in my bed yesterday (starting to go crazy)”
“Loved it, loved it. The aloof campus beauty actually likes cats. The contrast is adorable, I’m dying (awsl)”
“Who has Lin Wanqing’s contact info? My buddy needs a girlfriend.”
“Upper floor, please scram, okay? Don’t try to steal our xuejie’s (senior student’s) wife. We’re taking our Wanqing, no dating for us.”
“Today is another day of being utterly smitten by my wife, hasi hasi (panting sound)”
“I heard a rumor that Lin Wanqing has a boyfriend, who owns a company and is quite rich. Is that true?”
“WTF, Lin Wanqing has a boyfriend? I lost my love before I even started dating?!”
“My family is in business. I heard Lin Wanqing is preparing to get married. The groom is supposedly the CEO of some fashion and clothing group, a definite wealthy, powerful family.”
“LOL, how can anyone believe such baseless rumors?”
Lin Wanqing was completely unaware of the posts on the campus forum. After class, she rushed to the next classroom with her reference books.
She still had a moment before the next class started, so she bought a bottle of mineral water to rinse the scratch on the back of her hand from the scissors.
Standing by the window, she bit open a bandage with her teeth and covered the wound, wincing in pain. Her eyes welled up with tears.
Lin Wanqing’s roommate, Lan Xiaoxiao, who was also taking this course, arrived at the classroom door and saw Lin Wanqing there.
She thought that if she took a picture of this and posted it on the forum, that group of fangirls would go wild again.
Lin Wanqing: “?”
Lan Xiaoxiao: “You really don’t know how beautiful you are.”
Lin Wanqing looked at her, puzzled. Her eyes were red from the pain of the wound, making her look fragile and innocent.
Lan Xiaoxiao: Straight girl blushing.jpg
Lan Xiaoxiao had received a love letter today to pass on to Lin Wanqing. The handwriting was neat, and the envelope had a small pink heart sticker.
Lan Xiaoxiao handed her the love letter, then suddenly remembered something amusing.
“Look, our dorm mates, those who haven’t seen the world, were so impatient to take a photo with a Maybach parked outside the entrance.”
Lin Wanqing’s eyelashes fluttered, and her gaze fell on Lan Xiaoxiao’s phone screen.
The photo was taken from the second floor. The black Maybach nearly blocked the dormitory building. How could these poor students have ever seen such an impressive car?
Everyone passing by looked into the car with curious, gossiping eyes. The car windows were tinted, making it impossible to see inside.
The black, hard-edged sedan looked even sharper in the cool autumn air, like an emotionless steel monster.
Lan Xiaoxiao clicked her tongue in amazement. “Do you think there might really be a rich young lady living in our dorm, trying out common life?”
Lin Wanqing wiped away the tears brought on by the pain and tore open the freshly delivered envelope.
Every word inside was written with great care, yet with a student’s youthful awkwardness. It seemed to have been written by a little freshman xuemai (junior student) who had just graduated from high school.
From the trembling strokes, Lin Wanqing could vaguely sense the intense excitement the sender felt when writing this letter.
Lan Xiaoxiao draped her arm over Lin Wanqing’s shoulder. “This year’s little xuemai are lacking; only three love letters were sent. Last year, we received over ten.”
She truly didn’t understand what those lesbians were thinking. How could little girls be as good as cute little puppies?
Lin Wanqing quickly scanned the letter. “You’re making me sound like a heartbreaker.”
Lan Xiaoxiao whistled. “If I were the admirer, I wouldn’t write a love letter. One day, when I get rich, I’d just snatch you away and lock you up in a villa where you couldn’t escape.”
Lin Wanqing glanced at her, telling her to stop dreaming.
The latter laughed even harder.
Lin Wanqing used a lighter to burn the love letter and threw it into the trash can, lest keeping it cause any misunderstanding.
The red flames engulfed the pink envelope, reflecting on her overly pale and delicate fingers. In her heart, she silently apologized for the little freshman’s sincere affection.
It was almost time for class. Lin Wanqing was about to enter the classroom when her phone in her pocket suddenly buzzed.
She checked it and saw seven or eight missed calls from—Mother.
A look of difficulty flashed across Lin Wanqing’s face. She hung up the call.
She stopped and winked playfully at Lan Xiaoxiao. “Can you sign me in?”
Lan Xiaoxiao froze, looking at her in disbelief, thinking she had misheard. “You, the study fanatic, are skipping class?!”
Lin Wanqing’s eyes were very round. When she looked earnestly at someone, she was like a little rabbit staring intently at timothy hay, radiating soft, sweet pink bubbles all over.
“Can you?”
Lan Xiaoxiao’s straight heart hammered. “I-I can…”
Damn it, she must know she’s beautiful.
…
The black Maybach was parked at the dormitory entrance. The driver wore white gloves, his face stern, his hands gripping the steering wheel.
The elegant, luxurious car was strikingly out of place with the plain, old dormitory building. Students passing by frequently glanced over, curiously peering inside the vehicle.
Lin Wanqing pursed her lips into a thin line and pulled open the cool car door under the gaze of her classmates.
In the back seat sat a well-preserved, sophisticated woman. Her eyes drifted over Lin Wanqing, seemingly oblivious to the bandage on the back of her hand.
“Wanqing is here. Come back to the mansion tonight.”
Lin Wanqing got into the car and sat far away from her mother. “What did you need to see me about?”
The noblewoman resembled Lin Wanqing by about a third. She carried the arrogance, hauteur, and elegant superiority cultivated by wealth and prestige.
She took out a stack of documents from the briefcase next to her.
“Your marriage has been arranged. It’s with the newly appointed CEO of the Yan family.”
Her mother placed the documents and a medical report in front of her, saying with great pressure, “Your father and I paid for your education and raised you. It’s time for you to do something for the Lin family, isn’t it?”
