Married the Abandoned Puppy Alpha - Chapter 25
Chapter 25: Honeymoon
The diagnostic result was, of course, still an unknown etiology.
Looking at Shi Qingze’s expression, which looked like he was about to kill someone, the doctor tremblingly wrote out a prescription, but He Xinglou shook his head and refused.
“This medicine has already been prescribed.”
The doctor glanced at the person beside him, his shoulders hunching in trepidation: “Then… some more vitamins.”
Shi Qingze: “…”
Xinglou finally couldn’t help but laugh out loud, tossing a glance at the unhappy Alpha beside him See, I told you.
Shi Qingze was still persistent: “Are there any precautions for daily life? How can the frequency of these symptoms be reduced?”
“Avoid environments you dislike,” the doctor said while checking the medical history. “Most somatic manifestations occur when staying in a disliked environment; they will be greatly alleviated in a safe space.”
Isn’t that nonsense? Xinglou thought helplessly.
If a person could choose their environment, he wouldn’t have inexplicably transmigrated to this world. How could he avoid it? Punch and explode the Imperial Capital Star?
The doctor then looked at him again and asked with concern: “How is your sleep? Do you dream much at night?”
He Xinglou recalled and said truthfully: “Indeed, I do dream a lot. Especially after the emotional dissociation symptoms appear, I basically wake up from dreams with a start.”
After he finished speaking, he noticed Shi Qingze’s hand squeezing his own more tightly. He turned his head and, as expected, met a gaze filled with worry and heartache.
Xinglou’s heart softened a bit at the sight, and he comforted him instead: “Don’t worry, my sleep is still decent.”
“Then let’s prescribe some sleeping medication; physiological factors also have a great impact.”
Shi Qingze recorded it very seriously and repeatedly asked about the side effects of the drugs before leading He Xinglou away.
“Instead of worrying about me, you should focus on recovering your own health and getting discharged,” He Xinglou advised.
Otherwise, they would miss the wedding date.
Shi Qingze was somewhat absent-minded: “I’m fine, I’ve almost recovered.”
He Xinglou walked forward, saying as if casually: “Then, what about work? Is the problem big?”
“No problem there either.”
Unfortunately, just as Shi Qingze finished speaking, a cleaning robot on the corridor came running over enthusiastically, broadcasting gossip news about the Shi family as it ran.
On the virtual screen atop the robot’s head was Shi Yu’s triumphant face, speaking about the decision to remove Shi Qingze from the list of heirs.
He Xinglou sighed: “And this is called ‘no problem’? The heir position you’ve been longing for is almost gone.”
Shi Qingze remained silent, leading He Xinglou back to the ward and heartlessly shutting the door on the robot following behind.
He Xinglou suggested: “Should we go back to the old manor and talk to the Old Master, maybe plead for some leniency? Or get discharged as soon as possible to hold the wedding. I’ve looked over the process; first, at this month’s family banquet, send invitations to everyone in the manor to stabilize those people in the Shi family, and then”
“Brother,” Shi Qingze interrupted him helplessly, “these things aren’t important.”
“Not important?” Xinglou frowned. “I don’t know why you’re acting tough, but the current situation is very urgent; you even almost lost your life. If you don’t quickly secure the position of heir, how many more similar storms will you have to endure later?”
Shi Qingze stared at his moving lips and suddenly smiled, his eyes curving: “Brother is worried about me.”
He Xinglou, dissatisfied with his evasion, said coldly: “I just want to earnestly fulfill the terms of our agreement.”
Shi Qingze countered quickly: “Then if I become the Shi family heir, will our agreement be considered terminated?”
“Even if a year hasn’t passed, will you leave as soon as I become the heir?”
“Do you really not want to stay by my side that much?”
A series of questions hit him, and He Xinglou finally realized something was wrong. He looked up and collided with those clear, cold gray eyes.
He Xinglou blurted out: “Are you angry?”
Shi Qingze turned his face away as if to hide: “Only thinking about completing the agreement, not even caring about your own physical condition I really don’t want to see you doing this.”
“I don’t have any major issues,” He Xinglou said with a stiff face.
“See, Brother is also acting tough,” Shi Qingze retorted, unwilling to back down.
Neither was willing to yield on this topic, and it looked like it was about to turn into an endless argument. Fortunately, Song Xiao and Lin Shuyan arrived with snacks and fruit to visit, stopping the two of them.
The two friends immediately noticed the wrong atmosphere in the room and sized them up quite oddly.
“Did you fight?” Lin Shuyan asked in a low voice.
He Xinglou peeled fruit expressionlessly, the sharp blade flashing in his hand: “No, he’s a busy man.”
Song Xiao looked wordlessly at Shi Qingze, who was working in the opposite corner.
…And you say it’s not a fight. The two friends exchanged a glance.
Song Xiao also leaned in and whispered: “How did you start fighting? The wedding is almost here.”
“Young couples are like this,” Lin Shuyan said matter-of-factly, adjusting his glasses. “Most couples argue over the wedding process; a bedside fight ends at the foot of the bed, it’ll be fine soon.”
He Xinglou: “…We are not!”
But within two minutes, Shi Qingze came to reconcile with him.
“Brother, I have a project bid here regarding Ancient Earth civilization. Can you come and help me take a look?”
He Xinglou tapped the screen hard again, pretending to look seriously at the wedding process without even raising his head: “I”
Before he could finish, Lin Shuyan shoved a piece of apple in with a fork, blocking his mouth that was ready for a sarcastic remark.
Song Xiao was suppressing a laugh, saying in an exaggerated tone: “Eh? It seems Xinglou has indeed always been very interested in Ancient Earth culture. Why not go over and take a look?”
He Xinglou placed the fork back on the plate with a moderate force and wordlessly raised his eyebrows at them Whose side are you on?
The two pretended not to see.
The players are confused, while the onlookers see clearly. The trap was laid right here. Who knew which nook or cranny he dug that bidding case out of to use as bait, just to catch a little fish throwing a tantrum.
Over there, Shi Qingze pleaded softly: “Brother, can you come help me?”
He Xinglou originally didn’t want to pay him any mind.
This person was just acting tough a moment ago, saying the company had no problems, so he shouldn’t be coming to ask him now in a frenzy.
But looking over, Shi Qingze was sitting alone at a simple bedside table to work. With his long arms and legs, he looked very uncomfortable squeezed at the narrow table.
On the other hand, He Xinglou was lying comfortably in Shi Qingze’s hospital bed, being fed fruit piece by piece by his two good friends, making Shi Qingze look even more lonely and pitiful.
As if possessed, He Xinglou compromised: “Then I’ll come take a look.”
Only then did Shi Qingze beam with joy, explaining to him: “This stone tablet is an antique from about six thousand years ago. In human history, because the Interstellar Era came in a rush, few people can still decipher characters from thousands of years ago.”
“Let’s get this straight, I’m just interested in Ancient Earth culture, it doesn’t mean I know a lot…” He Xinglou was still giving a disclaimer, but after seeing the image on the display, his words stopped abruptly, replaced by a look of doubt.
“What’s wrong?” Shi Qingze stared at him without blinking. Seeing He Xinglou’s silence, he quickly changed his tune, “This project isn’t actually important, ignoring it is also—”
“I know this.” He Xinglou suddenly leaned closer, carefully identifying the characters on the image.
The image clearly showed a stone tablet, deeply engraved with symbols that absolutely did not belong to the Interstellar Era. The marks of weathering on those characters were heavy; heaven knew how many years old it was.
But He Xinglou recognized it. On the stone tablet was Latin.
Before transmigrating, he had a strong talent for languages and had dabbled in various languages of the world. He thought he would be able to find a good job easily; who knew he would end up transmigrating. Fortunately, his linguistic talent hadn’t disappeared, allowing him to quickly learn the language here.
Now, with just a few glances, he could already see that the content written there was a record of events that had once been in his history textbooks.
He had been in this world for too long, to the point where he couldn’t quite remember his life before the transmigration. Seeing the written records on the stone tablet brought back some memories from before.
He also saw some blurred memories that he had forgotten.
Images, half-familiar and half-strange, flashed past like a revolving lantern. In the images were countless crowds of people, appearing to be fleeing, yet also appearing to be gathered in prayer.
The final image lingered in a massive research institute, where strange instruments rotated slowly in a vast room, with countless researchers in white coats coming and going.
What had he… forgotten?
“Brother?” Shi Qingze held his hand with concern. “Are you uncomfortable? Do you want to sit down first?”
The sensation from his hand gave He Xinglou an illusion, as if he saw those researchers coming over again, pressing him into a transparent space capsule.
No, I can’t go! If I go, then
“Don’t touch me!” He threw off Shi Qingze’s hand with an extreme reaction.
Only after finishing the action did his rationality return. He looked at the person in front of him with some embarrassment.
“Sor—Sorry, I overreacted.”
Shi Qingze slowly lowered his hand: “It’s okay, I’m just worried about you. Are the symptoms appearing again? Do you need medicine?”
He Xinglou was still immersed in the chaotic memories, shaking his head and avoiding his gaze: “No need, I’m fine.”
But his heart was in a mess.
Isn’t this a different world? Why are there written records from Earth? And why does the history in these records perfectly match his era?
Can two worlds with perfectly overlapping histories really exist?
He vaguely felt that this was not a good discovery, but he had no way of knowing where the ominous premonition in his heart came from.
“Stop looking, rest for a bit.” Lin Shuyan walked over and tugged at his sleeve.
Xinglou focused his gaze on his friend, only then realizing that his abnormality had left the three people in front of him at a loss.
So he suppressed the bewilderment in his heart and said only to Shi Qingze: “Send the image to me; I’ll help you translate it.”
“Is it really okay? Your face looks very pale,” Shi Qingze said, holding his hand again.
He Xinglou shook his head. In his state of mental confusion, he did not break away from that hand this time.
The two friends, completely unaware of everything, only assumed they had reconciled and tactfully said their goodbyes and left.
Throughout the entire evening, He Xinglou put all his focus into studying that stone tablet. Even when Shi Qingze brought food to his mouth, he only reacted after taking several bites.
“I can do it myself.” He hurriedly tried to take the spoon from the other’s hand.
Shi Qingze shook his head and smiled: “It’s okay, Brother just needs to focus on your business.”
Although his mouth was turned up, the smile did not reach his eyes. If it were the usual He Xinglou, he would have quickly noticed the change in the other’s emotions, but unfortunately, he was currently in a state of fearful uncertainty himself and couldn’t spare the attention to look at Shi Qingze.
He Xinglou turned his head away, avoiding the spoon being fed to him again: “Really, don’t worry about me, go busy yourself with your things.”
That hand froze in mid-air for a moment before being withdrawn.
“Whenever Brother ignores me, I always feel like you’re going to leave me,” Shi Qingze said suddenly.
Xinglou snapped back to his senses, finally withdrawing his gaze from the stone tablet image and looking at him in surprise: “Why do you say that? Don’t we still have a one-year agreement?”
The agreement again.
Shi Qingze couldn’t even maintain a superficial smile; the corners of his mouth gradually drooped.
He sighed inwardly and then asked: “Is there something wrong with this image? From the moment you started looking this afternoon, Brother’s reaction has been very strange. If there’s something on your mind, Brother can tell me; I’ll help you share the burden.”
There was indeed something on his mind, but telling Shi Qingze would serve no purpose.
How curious a problem had finally appeared in this world that couldn’t be solved with money or power. In the face of ancient, vast time, all human achievements and accomplishments were in vain.
He Xinglou gave a bitter smile and shook his head: “It’s nothing, there’s no meaning in saying it.”
Shi Qingze’s breathing trembled several times. He said urgently: “What if I can help?”
“Enough, Shi Qingze.” He Xinglou added a bit of weight to his tone. “Let me solve this matter myself.”
Since this stone tablet could help him recover memories of Earth, maybe… the day he returns to his original world is not far off.
Thinking of this, He Xinglou promised: “I will help you secure the inheritance rights as soon as possible, so you should also find time to look over the wedding process. Once you’re discharged, we’ll go back to the Shi family and fight for it.”
Although he was no longer looking at the image of the stone tablet and his gaze was fixed on Shi Qingze, Shi Qingze felt that the other person was already looking through him, toward some completely unknown, void-like distance.
What exactly is that? What on earth is Brother hiding from him?
An inexpressible panic rose in his heart, and Shi Qingze’s expression changed abruptly.
He suddenly grabbed He Xinglou’s arm, as if fruitlessly trying to pull a kite flying in the wind back to the ground.
“What’s wrong?” Xinglou frowned slightly, appearing to scrutinize him.
Shi Qingze was so terrified he couldn’t speak for a long while.
He bit the tip of his tongue hard, the mouthful of blood finally helping him find his thoughts. He forced a smile: “I just wanted to remind Brother to remember to take your medicine tonight.”
After speaking, the next words became natural.
Shi Qingze let go of his hand and slowly stood up: “I’ll go pour some water for Brother. I must supervise you while you take the medicine.”
“I told you I don’t have a big problem…” Xinglou groaned, but seeing Shi Qingze’s insistent gaze, he could only compromise.
He absent-mindedly swallowed the tablets Shi Qingze handed him. It was only when drowsiness hit him that he realized those were the sleeping pills the doctor had prescribed.
It seemed there was no way to continue pondering tonight. He Xinglou saved the image and soon fell into a deep sleep.
That night, he dreamed of Earth again.
In the dream, he seemed to be saying goodbye to someone, but his voice was blocked by a thick layer of glass and couldn’t be transmitted out.
“This is the only qualified experimental subject, but the experimental process is dangerous, and we don’t know exactly what will happen…”
What experiment? What on earth are they talking about?
He Xinglou snapped his eyes open, and then he had no more mind to care about that dream.
He found himself on an unfamiliar starship. Outside the porthole were the boundless universe and the curved surface of the Imperial Capital Star.
“…Where is this?” Xinglou truly felt like he had transmigrated once again.
“You’re awake, Brother.” The familiar voice put He Xinglou slightly at ease. He turned his head to meet Shi Qingze, who was sitting leisurely beside him.
“How long have I been asleep? Where are you taking me?”
Shi Qingze turned off the virtual screen of his communicator. The eyes that looked over were as clear as frost.
He seemed to be angry, yet he was indeed smiling. He leaned down and blinked intimately at He Xinglou.
“We’re going… on a honeymoon.”
