Marking the Tsundere Eldest Miss of the Noble Academy [Omega] - Chapter 4
At the moment You Xinghai spoke her answer, the expressions of everyone waiting to see her make a fool of herself shifted instantly.
This problem was incredibly difficult; even they were not certain they could solve it. How could You Xinghai know the answer? She must have guessed! Many students quickly lowered their heads to check their own work. Seeing that their answers differed from You Xinghai’s, they breathed sighs of relief and began to jeer.
“If you do not know, just say you do not know. Is it really necessary to pull an answer out of thin air?”
“Look at her expression, acting all confident. Her acting is way too convincing.”
Du Na, however, who overheard their conversation, was not laughing. She stared at her own exercise book, which displayed an answer identical to the one You Xinghai had just recited. She began to question reality: Why is my answer the same as hers? Could I have gotten it wrong too?
Among everyone present, only Wen Xiaoyue gave an extremely slight, almost imperceptible nod.
“Quiet! What is wrong with this class today? Why all the noise?”
After restoring order, the math teacher turned to You Xinghai. “Correct. That is the right answer.”
This single sentence was like a massive boulder crashing into the sea, sending a thousand waves surging through the classroom. You Xinghai got it right? How was that possible! Incredulity washed over everyone’s faces.
“Absolutely impossible. It had to be a lucky guess.”
“But how do you guess a specific string of numbers like that?”
“Then she cheated! She is so tall; she probably just looked down and caught a glimpse of Xiaoyue’s answer.”
“Exactly! There is no way she actually did the homework. How else could she know the correct answer?”
Hearing this, You Xinghai thought to herself, Well, you got that part right. I actually did not do it.
“Settle down!”
The math teacher was genuinely puzzled. Why was her usually top-performing and most well-behaved class being so rowdy today? She continued, “In that case, would this student please come up and explain your reasoning for solving the problem?”
As soon as she said this, the students who were still stewing in indignation suddenly snapped to attention. Right! You can copy an answer, but you cannot fake the logic! Let us see how You Xinghai guesses her way out of this one.
“Haha, this is going to be good. How could You Xinghai have a logical process? She definitely just saw Xiaoyue’s work.”
“Now her true colors will show. Let us see what she does now!”
The students stubbornly clung to the belief that You Xinghai could never have arrived at the answer on her own. After all, if she actually answered correctly, would that not be a stinging slap to the faces of these students who received elite educational resources?
In the entire class, the only one who did not doubt You Xinghai’s answer was Wen Xiaoyue in the front row. What a bunch of idiots, Wen Xiaoyue thought. There was no way You Xinghai could have seen her answer in such a short amount of time. Furthermore, based solely on the girl’s resonant and confident tone, Wen Xiaoyue instinctively believed that You Xinghai had indeed solved the problem herself.
Just as she expected, with all eyes on her, You Xinghai straightened her back and fluently explained her problem-solving logic. Her reasoning was clear, her breakdown was swift, and she did not waste a single word. She even went as far as to offer an alternative method for the solution, demonstrating a truly versatile understanding of the material.
The math teacher was quite astonished. “What is your name? That was an excellent explanation.”
You Xinghai showed no sign of nervousness, replying candidly, “I am a new transfer student. My name is You Xinghai. You might not recognize me yet.”
“That is fine; I certainly recognize you now. Your process was very thorough. It is clear you have put in a lot of hard work. Everyone should learn from this student.”
Now, everyone was dumbfounded. You Xinghai? How could she possibly have answered that!
Du Na clenched her sweaty palms. You Xinghai had actually provided an alternative method that had not even occurred to her. Could she actually be better than me? No! Absolutely impossible! She is just a country bumpkin. How could she be more knowledgeable than me?
Struggling to maintain her composure, she immediately found a justification for herself: You Xinghai must be trying to show off. She must have thoroughly researched these specific exercises beforehand just to wait for a moment like this to stand out.
Hmph, nowadays you can find a ton of answers just by searching for a problem online. Her so-called multiple methods just prove she did not do it herself! Besides, when someone solves a problem, they think linearly. How could she see other methods? Haha, I have caught your flaw!
The more Du Na thought about it, the more she felt she had uncovered the truth. Seeing everyone around her still wearing foolish expressions as if they had been slapped, she curled her lip in disdain, enjoying the thrill of being the only sober person in the room. You Xinghai might be able to fake it for a moment, but can she fake it for a lifetime? Just wait until the monthly exams! I will tear the mask off that academic failure once and for all!
“Let us look at the next problem.”
Taking advantage of the moment the teacher looked down to read the problem, a student at the neighboring desk leaned toward Wen Xiaoyue and whispered, “Sister Yue, did You Xinghai copy off of you?”
Wen Xiaoyue shot her a cold look and did not bother to answer. What a bunch of arrogant fools.
After the math class ended, the atmosphere in the classroom was somewhat stiff. However, You Xinghai, the catalyst for it all, did not care. She acted as if it were all a result of her own ability, which made the others gnash their teeth in frustration.
Du Na shared her theories with the others, and those who listened felt her words made sense. Thus, the verbal attacks began again.
“Tsk tsk, some people really know how to put on a show. I wonder how long they can keep it up.”
“Do not say that. She probably spent a long time looking up the problems.”
“Haha, true, true!”
You Xinghai heard these comments, which were intentionally spoken at a higher volume, but she had no idea who they were talking about and did not react at all. Seeing her indifferent expression, the small group grew a bit anxious and continued.
“Truly embarrassing. She might as well pack her bags and go home early.”
“Ugh, what a total fake.”
“True, true!”
You Xinghai was baffled and felt that she should perhaps try to fit in, so she casually chimed in, “True, true!”
Everyone was silent. True your head!
Suddenly, Wen Xiaoyue, who sat in front of You Xinghai, stood up and looked down coldly at everyone. Even though she was an Omega, she possessed a natural, oppressive aura of authority. Those caught in her gaze instinctively held their breath.
You Xinghai noticed the classroom go quiet and looked up. She saw Wen Xiaoyue’s gaze sweep over her, and for a split second, their eyes met. She had to admit, the angle from which Wen Xiaoyue looked down at her was quite captivating. A cold, haughty aura washed over her, followed by a sharp gaze that looked as though she were viewing ants. She looked like a queen standing atop everyone’s heads, with all things bowing before her.
As expected of a nonsensical Mary Sue novel world, You Xinghai thought. An angle that would be a death angle for anyone else gave Wen Xiaoyue a unique charm. You Xinghai could not help but feel a flicker of pity for the girl in front of her: This person actually is not the female lead! What a waste!
Wen Xiaoyue carefully observed the girl who seemed to have become a completely different person overnight. The eloquence and surprising ability she displayed today felt as if she were possessed. However, since the change was for the better, it was not necessarily a bad thing. She let out a soft hum from her throat and was about to turn away.
However, in the next second, Wen Xiaoyue felt a sharp pain in her scalp. It felt as if her hair were being yanked by a massive force, as if ten thousand needles were stabbing in at once! She let out an instinctive cry of alarm and was pulled back by that force, falling hard toward the edge of You Xinghai’s desk!
You Xinghai also noticed the anomaly. With quick reflexes, she covered the sharp corner of the desk with her hand and stood up abruptly. With her other hand, she supported Wen Xiaoyue’s back, barely managing to steady her.
It was currently early autumn, and the students were still wearing summer uniforms made of thin fabric. Wen Xiaoyue felt the warmth of another person’s palm against her back. Her mind went blank for a moment. Without thinking, she grabbed the edge of the desk and violently shoved the other person’s hand away!
“Slap!”
You Xinghai, who had just helped someone, was shoved so hard she lost her balance. She stumbled back two steps and stood there, dazed. She had not expected Wen Xiaoyue, who looked so thin and slender, to have so much strength!
The commotion was quite loud, and everyone in the classroom looked over. “What happened? What happened?”
Wen Xiaoyue regained her composure and quickly glanced at the stunned You Xinghai. Then, she looked at the screw on the back of the chair that had caught her curly hair and immediately understood. Her hair must have gotten snagged, nearly causing her to fall. You Xinghai had caught her, but she had shoved the girl away.
Recalling everything that had just happened, as well as the sensation of the warm palm against her back, Wen Xiaoyue’s habitually cold face grew redder and redder until even her ears were flushed. Logically, she should have gracefully thanked and apologized to You Xinghai. But at the thought of that unintentional touch, she could not bring herself to say the words. She disliked physical contact; she did not even let her family get close to her, let alone allow someone to perform an act as wanton as touching her back!
“You, you…”
You Xinghai looked at her in confusion, only to see Wen Xiaoyue stuttering over the word “you” for ages, much like Guan Yinqi’s reaction in the International Class earlier. However, there was a difference. Guan Yinqi was quiet because of her low self-esteem and shyness. The Wen Xiaoyue in front of her was clearly embarrassed and angry, looking as if she had been violated.
You Xinghai quickly raised her hands. “I did not pull you! I was not trying to hurt you!”
Wen Xiaoyue knew it was not her! But that was not the point right now! She bit her lower lip, her face flushed a deep crimson. Trembling, she raised her hand and pointed at You Xinghai’s nose.
“You, you, you!”
She stomped her foot unconsciously, her eyes shining brilliantly. Finally, she managed to choke out the words: “You lecherous rogue!”
You Xinghai: ?
What? Me?
After throwing out those words, Wen Xiaoyue became even more flustered. Ignoring You Xinghai’s reaction, she covered her face and ran out of the classroom in a panic, looking like a virtuous woman who had been deceived by a heartless man.
You Xinghai stared at the empty desk in front of her, still in a daze. Her? What did I even do!
Although the person involved was baffled, Wen Xiaoyue’s final words were like a bombshell that made the entire classroom explode. The students who had not seen the details immediately filled in the blanks with their own imaginations, and a roar of excitement broke out!
“What happened?”
“I saw it! You Xinghai was groping Xiaoyue, and Xiaoyue slapped her wandering hands away!”
“Ahhh, how can You Xinghai be like that? I almost changed my mind about her because she got the question right. Turns out she is just a shameless jerk.”
“Do you see it, sisters? Alphas are all the same!”
“Get out of the academy, you disgusting pervert!”
Led by Du Na, a group of hot-tempered Alphas rushed up to You Xinghai, shouting and waving their arms wildly.
“Damn you! What did you do to Xiaoyue!”
“How dare you act like a rogue toward Xiaoyue! I will have your life!”
“You loathsome country bumpkin, how dare you defile the holy and pure Goddess Xiaoyue! Unforgivable!”
“I will make you pay for my anger with your life!”
“Go to hell!”
You Xinghai: This is a bit much. This is really a bit much.
