- Chapter 33 - White Deer 1
Chen Ke was a down-and-out college student in China in the year 2021. After graduation, he failed to find a job and returned to his hometown to open a pottery shop to make a living. One day, he was involved in a car accident. When he woke up, he discovered he had arrived on a mysterious Beastman Continent. Here, gender was not divided into male and female, but rather into males and females.
Male beastmen have both a human form and a beast form. Their human forms do not retain any animal characteristics. In contrast, females do not have a beast form, and their human forms possess certain animal features.
More importantly, both the females and the males here are men. One must realize that females are the ones capable of bearing children!
Chen Ke touched the fluffy fox ears on top of his head. He was now one of these beastman females. Even more terrifying was the fact that he came with a partner. He had been scared half to death during his first few days there.
Fortunately, the beastmen were simple and honest. They never questioned the changes in him after he woke up. Furthermore, an image of a face as cold and exquisite as a snow lotus flashed through Chen Ke’s mind, causing his cheeks to flush involuntarily.
He and his partner, Qingshi, had not yet performed the union ceremony, so they were currently sleeping in separate rooms. Although Qingshi appeared cold and indifferent on the surface, he was actually patient, gentle, and very understanding. He treated Chen Ke with great respect, not at all like a savage beastman.
This kindness made Chen Ke, who felt like a squatter who had stolen someone else’s life, feel quite guilty.
“Hu Ke, why are you standing here dazing off? It is time to head back!” Someone suddenly tapped him twice on the shoulder.
Chen Ke withdrew his wandering thoughts and looked back at the person behind him who possessed a pair of white rabbit ears. “Tu Ji, I know.”
He picked up the radish seedlings he had pried out of the ground with a wooden stick, placed them into his handmade rattan basket, and stood up.
Seeing his actions, Tu Ji twitched his nose and asked, “Hu Ke, the Luoluograss has not borne fruit yet. Why are you digging it up?”
Chen Ke hoisted the basket onto his back and replied, “I want to take them back and plant them.”
“Plant them?” Tu Ji tilted his head, not understanding the concept.
“It means burying them near the cave where we live. That way, when we want to eat, we can dig them up directly instead of running far away,” Chen Ke explained, trying his best to find the right words.
“Oh, Hu Ke, you really are a fox beastman. So smart!” Tu Ji praised.
Chen Ke gave an embarrassed smile. “Let us head back quickly.”
“Mm-hmm.”
In the vast primeval forest, the path beneath their feet was relatively flat and clean. It was a trail forged by long-term human travel. This part of the forest served as the gathering grounds for the tribe’s females.
After exiting the woods and crossing a meadow, several interconnected stone mountains appeared. This was the location of the He Tribe, where Hu Ke lived.
Tu Ji’s partner, Hu Gan, was a main warrior of the tribe, and their cave was located in the inner part of the settlement. Consequently, Chen Ke and Tu Ji parted ways at the foot of the mountain. One went up the mountain, while the other went around it.
Chen Ke currently lived in Qingshi’s cave, which was located on the back side of the mountain base. It was a place far from the tribe’s main gathering area. He heard it was chosen because Qingshi disliked crowds.
Breathing in the fresh forest air, Chen Ke walked with a relaxed stride. He was the type of person who took things as they came. Since he was here, he might as well live well! Truth be told, this scenery of green mountains and clear water was truly refreshing.
Upon returning home, Chen Ke discovered a strange male crouching in front of his door observing the pottery pot he had set up outside the cave.
Speaking of this pot, it was a product of Chen Ke’s blood, sweat, and tears. When he first woke up and realized he was in a primitive beastman world, he found that people mostly ate roasted meat. His partner, Qingshi, was a herbivorous beastman who did not like meat and mostly ate wild fruits. There was not even a stone pot in the cave.
At the time, Chen Ke felt his world go dark. After two days of eating fruit and dry roasted meat, he finally could not take it anymore. In this primitive era where everything was lacking, he had managed to force out this pottery pot. He had been moved to tears when he saw it. Though it looked crude, it did not leak and could be used for boiling. At a time like this, one could not afford to be picky. Having anything at all was a blessing.
Since few people ever visited their cave, Chen Ke felt safe leaving the pot at the entrance. He had not expected an uninvited guest today.
“Who are you? What are you doing?”
Chen Ke stood at a distance, watching the strange beastman warily. He did not dare get too close. Over time, he had gained a deeper understanding of this world where males outnumbered females. A male as gentle and polite as his partner, Qingshi, was a rare gem among males.
Most male beastmen were creatures driven by combativeness, the desire to conquer, and possessiveness. They generally spoke with their fists and thought with their lower halves.
The beastman crouching by the pot stood up. When Chen Ke saw that handsome, spirited face, a hint of admiration flashed in his eyes.
This was the first male he had seen in the He Tribe who could rival his partner, Qingshi, in terms of looks. However, they were beautiful in different ways. Qingshi had the sacred, untouchable beauty of a snow lotus, while this man had the vibe of an unrestrained, playboy rogue.
He had bronze skin, upturned sword-like eyebrows, a tall aquiline nose, and lips that naturally curved into a smile. It was an exotic look paired with puppy eyes that drooped slightly at the corners, adding a touch of innocence to his wild appearance.
With fluffy long white hair and full, well-defined muscles that were not overly bulky, he was both wild and pure. Chen Ke took a sharp, quiet breath. If he had met this man on Earth, he definitely would have asked for his contact information. He was exactly his type.
Quan Bai noticed the wariness in the fox female’s eyes. He narrowed his eyes and offered a kind smile. “Sorry, I just thought this pot looked interesting.”
“My name is Quan Bai. I am a rogue beastman who just joined the He Tribe. I live in a nearby cave and came over today to meet the neighbors.”
Seeing that he was polite and not overbearing like typical males, Chen Ke relaxed slightly. “Hello, my name is Hu Ke.”
Quan Bai raised an eyebrow. “Hu Ke, you are really cute. Do you live here alone? Do you have a partner? If not, what do you think of me?”
The fur on Chen Ke’s fox ears stood straight up from the shock. Once again, he experienced the bluntness of the beastmen. Blushing, he replied, “I am not alone, I have…”
“He has a partner,” a voice like cracking ice and clashing jade cut across Chen Ke’s words.
The two followed the sound and saw a person slowly walking out of the forest. He was tall and elegant, with clear, beautiful eyes and a complexion fairer than that of a pampered female. His handsome face appeared noble due to his indifferent expression. His long, silver-white hair reflected dazzling colors in the sunlight, looking like a deity descending to the mortal realm with his own radiance.
Seeing the newcomer, Chen Ke shouted happily, “Qingshi, you are back!”
“Mhm.” Qingshi nodded slightly to Chen Ke, then stepped in front of him to block him, looking at Quan Bai. “Who are you, and what do you want?”
Meeting those eyes that seemed cast from cold jade, Quan Bai pressed his tongue against his itchy teeth and smiled. “Do not be nervous, I just came to make a friend. My name is Quan Bai, I am new to the tribe, and I live right next door.”
“I even brought fresh deer meat. Let us eat together.” As he spoke, he pointed to the dead fawn at his feet.
Qingshi led Chen Ke toward the cave entrance, stopping not far from Quan Bai. In this world, Qingshi stood at 188 cm. While tall by human standards, he was at the bottom of the height bracket in a world where males averaged two meters. He was even comparable to some strong females.
The male beastman named Quan Bai was clearly among those who raised the average height. Qingshi had to look up slightly to meet his eyes.
Glancing at the fawn with the broken neck on the ground, Qingshi calmly introduced himself: “Qingshi.”
Chen Ke suddenly remembered that his future partner was a deer beastman. Would Quan Bai bringing a dead deer to the door be seen as a direct provocation? Would they fight?
He quickly observed their expressions and found that there was not too much hostility between them, which allowed him to heave a sigh of relief.
A look of realization dawned on Quan Bai. No wonder he did not smell much blood on this man. Instead, there was a sweet and sour scent of berries. If he had not felt the chilling aura emanating from him, he might have mistaken him for a female at first glance.
Twitching his nose, Quan Bai lowered his brows and looked at Qingshi with an apologetic gaze. “My apologies. I did not consider things thoroughly.”
Qingshi did not respond to him. Instead, he turned to ask for Chen Ke’s opinion. “Should we let him stay?”
“Well,” seeing the decision fall to him, Chen Ke looked at Quan Bai who was tall and powerful yet seemed gentle and kind. Adhering to the philosophy of hospitality, he let the man stay. “Since you are already here, let us have dinner together.”
At this moment, Chen Ke had no idea he was about to lead a wolf into his home. Later, whenever he thought back on this, his heart would be full of annoyance. What appeared gentle and kind was actually a black sesame bun. This man was sweet on the outside but dark on the inside!
“Good.” Qingshi held up the two motionless Gugu-birds he was carrying. “Are we eating these today?”
Looking at the Gugu-birds, which had vibrant feathers and looked very much like chickens from Earth, Chen Ke thought for a moment and said, “Let us eat them. It is the perfect time to make a new dish, Beggar’s Chicken!”
“Mhm, how do we make it?” Qingshi asked.
“First, we need to pluck the feathers, clean out the organs, then wrap them in leaves and bury them in the dirt,” Chen Ke briefly explained the process.
“Understood.” Qingshi nodded slightly to show he followed. “I will go process them.”
With that, he carried the Gugu-birds toward the small stream near the cave. Left alone, Chen Ke and Quan Bai stared at each other in silence for a while.
Finally, Quan Bai broke the silence. “Is there anything you need help with?”
Chen Ke originally wanted to say there was nothing, but meeting those expectant puppy eyes, he hesitated and said, “Then, could you please pick a few large leaves for me and wash them clean?”
“Sure!”
Watching Quan Bai’s excited silhouette disappear into the forest, Chen Ke gave a friendly smile. This guy was actually quite interesting.
He set down the basket he was carrying and took out the radish seedlings whose roots were still well-protected by soil. He placed them temporarily in his stone planting pot, planning to nurture them for a few days before transplanting them into the vegetable garden he had cleared.
Then, he began to start a fire to prepare for dinner. As for the dead deer on the ground, it was ignored by all three of them by unspoken agreement.
