- Male Lead, Please Don’t Covet the Mob Character Cannon Fodder (Quick Transmigration)
- Chapter 30 - Naga (13)
Who would have thought that a colleague one had worked with for so long was actually the son of Liao Peng, the head of the Federation’s leading jet car distribution company, the Liao Corporation?
Hearing Qingshi’s form of address, a look of helplessness appeared on Meng Xi’s face. “Qingshi, do not call me that. My mother divorced Liao Peng long ago. I am no young master.”
Qingshi was merely teasing him. Seeing his embarrassed expression, Qingshi stopped poking fun at him. “Do you have business here today?”
“Mhm.” Meng Xi nodded. “I know you do not want to go to the hospital, so I brought a portable diagnostic scanner with me.”
Qingshi frowned slightly. “There is no need. I am”
“No, you have to listen to me this time. I do not know what kind of tricks Bai Lin played on you. I am worried,” Meng Xi said, interrupting Qingshi’s refusal.
Seeing the persistence in his eyes, Qingshi sighed and rose from the rocking chair. “Fine.”
The two moved into the house. Qingshi lay on the bed and allowed Meng Xi to connect the diagnostic sensors to his body.
The scanning process took some time. While Meng Xi monitored the display screen, he spoke to Qingshi. “Qingshi, there has been some turmoil at the Central Research Institute lately. It is rumored that the Elder, Bai Lin, has not appeared since leaving Antarctica. Even the transport battleship has vanished without a trace.”
“He had better be dead in Antarctica,” Meng Xi muttered, a rare moment of spite directed at another person.
Qingshi echoed the sentiment internally. That old man had better be dead. It was the first time he had felt such intense malice toward someone.
“Wait? What is this?” Meng Xi’s brow furrowed as he looked at the test results on the screen.
Qingshi asked, “What is wrong?”
Meng Xi explained, “The scanner detected ‘Gui Gu’ in your system. It is a banned drug in the Federation. Those poisoned with it do not show significant side effects early on; reactions only occur when they are exposed to ‘Gui Gu’ again. Bai Lin must have used this to control you.”
A banned drug! No wonder!
“I see. Judging by your expression, is there a problem with the drug in my body?” Qingshi asked.
Meng Xi’s eyebrows were practically tied in knots. “No. The drug in your body is about to be completely devoured by another force.”
“It appears to be another type of powerful gene. They are not only eating the banned drug but even your own genes.” As he spoke, something suddenly occurred to Meng Xi. His voice turned dry. “Qingshi, Bai Lin said you participated in Fuxi’s reproduction experiment. Did you”
Qingshi’s expression froze for a split second. He then sat up, removed the sensor pads one by one, and changed the subject. “It is good that the drug is gone.”
“Qingshi, you,” Meng Xi grasped Qingshi’s wrist. “Do not worry. I will not let anything happen to you.”
Meeting his earnest gaze, Qingshi used a clever bit of leverage to break the grip. He curled his lips slightly. “Then I will leave it in your hands.”
With that, he got out of bed, walked to the cold storage unit, and took out a bottle of blue nutrient solution.
After taking a small sip, seeing that Meng Xi was still staring at him, Qingshi shook the glass bottle at him. “What? Does the second young master of the Liao family want a taste too?”
His bright red tongue brushed against the corner of his lip.
The tips of Meng Xi’s ears burned. He awkwardly shifted his gaze away. “No need. I have business to attend to. I am leaving. I will see you next time.”
Watching the retreating figure bolt away in a panic, Qingshi drained the nutrient solution in one gulp and placed the empty bottle back in the cooler.
Inside his jet car, Meng Xi leaned back against the seat. The image of that exquisite beauty kept surfacing in his mind, making his ears grow even redder.
“Heh, coward!”
A voice suddenly appeared in his head. It sounded like the hissing of a snake, yet he could understand it perfectly.
Meng Xi’s face instantly darkened. “Did I not tell you to be quiet when there is nothing to say!”
“Heh heh heh. You like him? That human called Ji Qingshi.”
Meng Xi punched the dashboard, gritting his teeth. “If you dare touch him, I will take us both down with me immediately!”
“Hiss. Relax. I am most interested in you right now, a man who can coexist with a Sinful Dragon Lizard. Hee hee.”
“However, that person you have your eye on carries the scent of a Henos Naga. Although he is not a complete form, it is enough to attract my kin.”
“What?” A flash of panic crossed Meng Xi’s eyes. He darkened his expression. “Is there any way to remove it?”
“Hm. The transformation is irreversible. However”
Meng Xi asked, “However what?”
“As long as you give control of this body to me, I can help you intercept my kin.”
The hope in Meng Xi’s eyes dimmed. He sneered, “You are dreaming.”
“Hiss. You will beg me.”
“Never.” Meng Xi pressed the start button on the jet car. Through the window, the elegant two-story building grew more distant, much like the distance between him and Qingshi.
When the snake tide broke out at Dawn Base, he thought he was a lucky survivor who had avoided infection. He never imagined fate would play such a joke on him. It would have been better to perish with the base; at least then, he would have left an indelible mark in Qingshi’s heart.
Instead, he could only bitterly suppress his urge to get closer, because he did not know when he would turn into a total monster. No, perhaps he already was one.
Boom!
A heavy rainstorm began outside, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The young man, buried in the white bedsheets, arched his body and curled up like a shrimp.
Irrepressible gasps escaped from between his snow-white teeth. His entire body was in pain, but it was not just pain; it was mixed with a sensation that was difficult to describe.
He wanted; he wanted it so much.
His mind uncontrollably recalled the touch of those coarse palms and the serpent tail sliding across his skin. Every cell in his body was communicating its longing to its master.
With tearful eyes, Qingshi stuffed the web of his hand into his mouth and bit down hard, using the pain to maintain his last shred of sanity.
If he did not do this, he feared he would uncontrollably run out to find Jia’s trail.
The influence of the Henos Naga genes in his body was even more agonizing than he had imagined. During the three days since returning to the Federation Main City, he had felt this torment every night.
It became more unbearable each time. Qingshi did not know how much longer he could hold out.
886 said it was going to ask about the situation. Why has there been no reply after so long?
“Ugh!” His toes curled. Without any physical contact, Qingshi reached a release.
His body seemed to calm down significantly afterward, allowing his tense muscles to relax slightly.
Unable to stand the stickiness on his body, Qingshi threw off the quilt and walked toward the bathroom with unsteady steps.
He did not know if it was because of the Henos Naga genes, but Qingshi felt his germaphobia was improving, and his violent moods had not appeared for a long time.
This suggested that if he completely transformed into a Henos Naga, his Gene Collapse Syndrome might disappear.
Qingshi lowered his eyelids, looking at the bleeding bite mark on his hand with an unreadable expression.
For the original Ji Qingshi, being forced to become a Henos Naga in such a manner was an unacceptable reality.
Qingshi turned on the shower, tilting his head back to let the hot water wash over him.
Boom! Amidst a loud clap of thunder, the sensor light overhead suddenly went out.
Qingshi knelt on the floor as the unbearable longing surged back once more.
In the empty bathroom, amidst the pitter-patter of water, intermittent gasps filled the air.
As dawn broke, the thunderstorm that had lasted all night ceased its roaring. Qingshi, who had been tortured through the night, fell into a groggy sleep.
He was awakened by the call of his robot butler. “Master, ten Federation soldiers have arrived outside. They belong to Unit 7912 under the jurisdiction of the Central Institute.”
“Team 12 Captain Li Zhihe requests a video call.”
Qingshi sat up in bed. There was some darkness under his eyes, but he did not look disheveled. Instead, that touch of shadow gave him a sense of fragile beauty.
“Connect it.”
Beep. Connected. The robot butler pressed a button on its chest. Two beams of light shot from its eyes, forming a blue glowing screen in the air.
A bust of a man in a stiff military uniform appeared on the screen. Li Zhihe, with his rugged features, looked to be in his forties. However, he did not show signs of aging and possessed the charm of a mature man.
Li Zhihe froze for a moment when he saw Qingshi sitting on the bed. He then gave a military salute. “Ji Qingshi, Guard Captain of the Antarctic Dawn Base. Dawn Base has been destroyed, and you left Antarctica without authorization or reporting. The Council has issued an accountability order. Please come with me.”
Qingshi ran his hand through his hair, combing the stray locks away from his eyes. His sapphire-blue eyes looked directly at Li Zhihe on the screen. “A matter like this does not seem to be under the jurisdiction of the Central Institute, does it, Captain Li?”
Li Zhihe replied, “This is how the Council conveyed it. I am merely following orders.”
“Heh.” Qingshi’s lips curled up slightly into a mocking arc.
“If you refuse to comply, I will have to take compulsory measures,” Li Zhihe said seriously.
“I understand. Wait a moment.” Qingshi ended the call, got out of bed, tidied himself up, and opened the door.
Li Zhihe opened the rear door of a black jet car and made an inviting gesture.
Qingshi entered the car without looking left or right, showing no fear or concern about the summons.
Li Zhihe noticed Qingshi’s expression in the rearview mirror and asked, “You do not seem worried at all?”
Qingshi was watching the scenery fly past the window. Hearing this, he turned to meet the man’s eyes and replied, “Is worrying useful? Furthermore, the destination you are heading toward does not seem to be military quarters. It is likely a member of the Council wants to see me, yes? Are they at the Central Institute?”
Li Zhihe’s expression changed slightly. He looked away and stopped meeting Qingshi’s eyes. “You should not be asking me about such things.”
Qingshi gave a flat “Heh” and then closed his eyes against the seat to catch up on sleep.
Ten minutes later, the jet car arrived at the Federation Central Institute.
Li Zhihe opened the car door and woke Qingshi. “We are here. Please step out.”
Qingshi got out and followed him into the massive building that spanned 350 hectares. Walking through the metallic space gave one an unreal feeling of traveling through interstellar space.
Li Zhihe led Qingshi into a laboratory. Before entering, Qingshi looked at the label on the door: 001.
It was said that the Central Institute housed nine famous research centers, named with the numbers 1 through 9. Among them, 001 was the most mysterious, and all its research content was top secret.
The door closed behind him. Li Zhihe did not enter with him.
Qingshi looked up and saw a giant screen standing in the room. It displayed every detail of his physical values and various report information.
“Ji Qingshi, Major General Ji. I did not expect our next meeting to be under such circumstances.”
The leather chair beneath the screen turned around. A white-haired old man showed a kind, fatherly smile.
Qingshi clenched his jaw and called out, “Chairman.”
