Male Lead, Let Go of That Heroine—Let Me! [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
It wasn’t until past 8:00 that the other four people arrived one after another.
As soon as Li Weige entered, he immediately apologized: “I am truly sorry for making everyone wait so long.”
Lu Sheng, Ou Jie, and Tan Yingying also apologized hurriedly: “…So sorry, the roads were too congested.”
Director: “It’s fine. I’ve already notified the audience of the reason for your delay. The program has been recording for an hour now. Get ready; we’re heading into the field.”
Li Weige looked around and asked in surprise: “Has Yan Hui not arrived yet? Is she stuck in traffic too?”
Li Weige noticed that after he asked this, the entire set fell into an unusually strange silence.
“Did… did I say something wrong?” Li Weige was completely bewildered.
“Hahaha, Li Weige is too funny. Look behind you on the sofa—isn’t someone lying there?”
“Yan Hui is sleeping right behind you guys, hahaha…”
“I’m going to die laughing, haha. It’s too funny, did you guys see the director’s expression just now? Hahaha…”
The director sighed and called to a staff member nearby, “Go wake Yan Hui up.”
The other four watched in amazement as the staff member walked to the sofa and poked the unidentified object on it.
“Um… Yan Hui, the others have arrived. It’s time to head to the site.”
The four were shocked to see that someone was on the sofa. They hadn’t noticed anyone there when they arrived, and they certainly didn’t expect the person on the sofa to be Yan Hui.
The figure on the sofa moved, the blanket was pulled back, revealing Yan Hui’s bleary-eyed face. She let out a yawn and looked at the four stunned people beside her. “Everyone’s here?”
the staff member said awkwardly: “Mhm, everyone is here. We’re heading in.”
“Mhm.” Yan Hui stood up, folded the blanket neatly, and handed it back to the crew. “Thank you for the blanket. I slept very comfortably.”
Production crew: “…..”
Yan Hui looked at the four of them and gave a brief self-introduction: “Hello, I am Yan Hui from the group Q&K.”
Li Weige was the first to react: “Hello, I am Li Weige.”
Once the five had briefly introduced themselves, they were whisked away to the site by the production crew.
All the sites for ‘Simulated Life’ were constructed with a huge budget; the locations were exquisite and the facilities were complete.
The theme of the first episode was “The Last Humans.” The premise was that a virus had broken out in the country, turning over half the population into zombies. Now, only the five of them were normal humans. They had recently received news that a doctor at Research Institute J had developed an antidote, and they needed to find the institute to obtain it and save the nation.
The crew sent them to various locations separately. When Yan Hui took off her blindfold, she found herself in a hospital.
The surroundings were chaotic. There were bloodstains on the walls, beds, and floor, as if a slaughter had taken place.
Yan Hui looked around and picked up a stick for self-defense.
The VJ (Video Journalist) following her was stunned by her actions and whispered a reminder: “Um… you can’t hit people.”
Yan Hui thought about it and realized he was right. After all, it was a variety show and everything was acted; hitting people was indeed not good.
“I’m using it for self-defense, I won’t hit anyone.”
VJ: “….” I don’t believe you.
Online audience: “….” We don’t believe you either.
Yan Hui walked out of the hospital room. The corridor was very quiet with no sound at all, like an empty city. Currently, she needed to find her other companions; now was not a suitable time to act alone.
Every time she approached a hospital room door, Yan Hui would slow her pace. The online audience held their breath, following Yan Hui’s gaze to see what lay ahead.
The five people were in different locations, so the live stream platform separated the five broadcast feeds. The crew discovered that the number of people watching Yan Hui was rising sharply, already surpassing the viewership of the other four.
Just as Yan Hui walked down the stairs, she suddenly heard a noise from a nearby hospital room. The VJ was also startled by the sound, causing the camera to shake.
“Holy crap, is it a zombie? I’m scared, ahhh!”
“Did you see the cameraman shake? D*mn, the crew is playing for keeps.”
“Lu Sheng’s side has already started being chased by zombies.”
“Ahhh, Li Weige also ran into a zombie, he’s wailing so tragically.”
“Tan Yingying is also in a bad way, she was so scared she ran right out of her high heels. Why would she wear high heels to this kind of show…”
“Hey, why is Yan Hui walking back toward it?”
Yan Hui followed the sound to Room 302. Looking through the glass in the door, she found a male zombie wandering inside. He had just bumped into a rack, creating the noise. Yan Hui glanced at the zombie; the actor was very professional. Even though no one was watching him, he continued to snarl and act, wearing exquisite special effects makeup that looked particularly eerie, clutching a severed limb he had grabbed from somewhere.
Yan Hui retreated to the nurse’s station on the third floor. She searched around and found a roll of bandages, tossed the stick aside, and returned to Room 302 with the bandages.
“What is Yan Hui trying to do?”
“Is this girl going to try to bandage the zombie because she saw it bleeding? Hahaha…”
“Why did she take bandages? She isn’t planning to hang herself, is she?”
“Holy sht, is Yan Hui kidnapping the zombie? Is she that fierce?”
“…High energy ahead. Yan Hui kidnapping a zombie—is it a loss of morality or a total decay of human nature?”
“Wow, Yan Hui’s moves are actually pretty good…”
Suddenly, catching the moment the zombie turned around, Yan Hui snapped the gauze tight with both hands and looped it directly over the zombie’s upper body. Before the zombie could react, he was bound by Yan Hui, his arms pinned. Just as he was about to open his mouth to bite her, a bedsheet was suddenly stuffed into his mouth.
Zombie: “….Mmph mmph mmph….”
Yan Hui tied a dead knot and floored the zombie. She then pulled the boots off his feet.
“Thanks. You have a good rest here.” Yan Hui took the boots, patted her pants, and walked away.
The VJ didn’t understand Yan Hui’s actions and asked in surprise: “Why are you taking his shoes?”
Yan Hui: “His boots are pretty nice.”
VJ: “……”
Perhaps there was only this one zombie in the entire hospital, and he had been floored by Yan Hui. Consequently, Yan Hui walked out of the hospital very safely. The road outside was empty—no people, no zombies.
Yan Hui looked at the surrounding buildings and looked toward a school not far ahead, thinking there should be people there.
Just as Yan Hui reached the school gates, she heard two shrill screams. The female voice was likely Tan Yingying, and the male voice sounded a bit like Li Weige. Yan Hui hurried over to the entrance of the teaching building, only to find the lock was fastened from the outside.
The two inside the building had been chased down to the first floor by zombies. Seeing the door was locked from the outside, their hearts turned cold.
“What do we do?” Tan Yingying was so scared that tears were flying out. “The door is locked from the outside, what are we supposed to do?”
Li Weige was sweating profusely from running, constantly looking back at the movements upstairs. There were over a dozen zombies in the entire teaching building, all of them “mutated students.” Time was running out for them; if they couldn’t get out, they would be bitten and turn into zombies themselves.
“Jump out a window, find a window.” Li Weige and Tan Yingying ran a lap around the first-floor hall only to find there were no windows.
Li Weige said through tears: “The production team is trying to kill us.”
Tan Yingying frowned. “What do we do? We’re going to die here.”
“Unless someone unlocks it from the outside, we can’t get out,” Li Weige looked upstairs. “Going back up now is impossible. There are zombies on the second and third floors. Going back is like walking into a tiger’s den.”
“But… the zombies will come down sooner or later.” Early-stage zombies moved very slowly. Li Weige checked the time; in a few more minutes, the zombies would be coming down the stairs. “Let’s first… Hey, Yingying, did you hear something?”
Tan Yingying was paralyzed with fear. “What? What sound? Are the zombies coming down?”
Li Weige listened and realized it didn’t sound like a zombie; instead, it sounded like someone was bashing the door. He looked at the main entrance and realized the sound was coming from outside. He said excitedly: “Someone is outside! Someone is outside!”
Tan Yingying immediately ran over. Just as she was about to bang on the door, she suddenly thought of something and said, “Could it be a zombie outside ramming the door?”
Li Weige’s face changed as he shouted: “Is anyone out there?”
“Yes, it’s me, Yan Hui.”
Li Weige said in pleasant surprise: “Yan Hui, why are you here?”
“I just came out of the hospital nearby and heard your shouting.”
Tan Yingying said excitedly: “Yan Hui, save us! The door is locked and the padlock is on the outside. See if you can open it?”
“I’m working on it.” Yan Hui tossed away the rock in her hand, looked for a larger rock nearby, and picked it up. “You two stay away from the door, I’m going to smash it open.”
Li Weige was puzzled: “Smash the door? Is there no key?”
“It’s a combination lock.”
“Can you crack it?” Li Weige didn’t forget to cue the game process, asking, “You can tell me the riddle, and I’ll try to solve it.”
“No need. Solving riddles is too tedious. I’ll just smash it.”
Before Li Weige could react, he heard the booming sound of the door being hammered. With a bit of strength, Yan Hui finally smashed the door open. The crew watched as their meticulously placed combination lock was violently dismantled, and their hearts turned cold.
As soon as Li Weige and Tan Yingying saw the door open, they rushed out. Yan Hui saw that the zombies had already reached the bottom of the stairs. Once the two were out, Yan Hui shut the door and jammed it shut with a stick.
Tan Yingying collapsed on the ground, limp with fear, murmuring: “Scared me to death, finally got out.”
Li Weige sat on the ground, letting out a long breath, and looked at Yan Hui: “Thanks. If you hadn’t come, we both would have been done for.”
“No problem, it was on the way.” Yan Hui looked at Tan Yingying’s feet. Her high heels had been lost during the run and she was barefoot. She took out the boots she had snatched earlier and handed them over. “For you.”
Tan Yingying looked at the boots and was stunned. “What… what is this?”
Yan Hui raised an eyebrow: “Shoes. Don’t you recognize them?”
“I… I know they are shoes,” Tan Yingying said in surprise. “Why are you giving them to me?”
Yan Hui didn’t speak, looking down at her feet.
Tan Yingying realized that in her panic she had run right out of her heels. She hadn’t expected the first episode to be this thrilling; if she had known, she wouldn’t have worn heels.
Yan Hui crouched down and lifted Tan Yingying’s foot. There were pebbles on it. Yan Hui pulled some bandages from her pocket to wipe the foot clean before helping her put on the shoe.
Watching her put on her shoes, Tan Yingying’s face instantly flushed red. She stammered: “I… I can do it myself.”
Yan Hui stood up. “Put the other one on yourself.”
Tan Yingying immediately put on the other shoe. They were very large, but compared to being barefoot or wearing high heels, they were very comfortable. She looked at the standing Yan Hui and murmured: “Thank you.”
Yan Hui looked around and asked, “Can you guess where the other two are?”
Li Weige observed for a moment and pointed to a park in the distance. “I suspect those two are at the amusement park. Shall we go check it out?”
“Sure,” Yan Hui reached out a hand to Tan Yingying. “Let’s go.”
Tan Yingying looked at the hand before her—the fingers were long and slender. She gently grasped it and was pulled up by Yan Hui. “Thank you.”
Yan Hui curled her lips into a smile. “No need for thanks.”
Tan Yingying lowered her head, the tips of her ears turning red.
Li Weige, watching from the side, suddenly felt strangely redundant.
“Why do I feel a sense of ‘CP’ (Couple) energy between Tan Yingying and Yan Hui?”
“Oh my god! Did Yan Hui take those boots specifically to give to Tan Yingying?”
“Did Yan Hui see Tan Yingying wearing high heels, which is why she robbed the zombie of those boots??”
“Has Yan Hui become a real person??? Has she turned over a new leaf????”
The three of them headed to the amusement park near the school. The roadside was desolate, with ruins of collapsed buildings, abandoned cars, bloodstains on the road, and corpses everywhere, all filled with a sense of despair.
Li Weige remarked: “The set design is too realistic. I keep thinking I’m in a movie.”
Ever since Yan Hui gave her the shoes and took her hand, Tan Yingying had begun silently following by Yan Hui’s side. “The first episode is already this terrifying. What am I going to do for the next five?”
Hearing her say this, Li Weige’s heart also skipped a beat. “Now that you say it, I’m getting a bit scared too.”
Tan Yingying looked at Yan Hui ahead. She didn’t seem to show a shred of cowardice; her calm expression seemed out of place with the setting, giving one a strange sense of security when with her.
“Yan Hui, aren’t you afraid?” Tan Yingying asked.
Yan Hui said calmly: “It’s just a variety show.”
The subtext being: You guys are way too immersed in the role.
Tan Yingying was choked by her words. Although she knew it was a variety show, both the setting and the NPC designs were too frightening. Several times she thought she was finished and completely forgot she was filming a show.
“B… but don’t you find it terrifying to see zombies?” When Tan Yingying was assigned to the classroom, she ran right into a hideous zombie the moment she stepped out, which scared her so much she lost her shoes. “Being chased by zombies made my heart feel like it was going to fly out.”
Li Weige noticed that Yan Hui’s clothes were very neat, unlike his and Tan Yingying’s. His freshly styled hair was a mess today, and Tan Yingying had lost her shoes, but Yan Hui looked as if she hadn’t experienced any zombie chases. He asked curiously: “Were there no zombies at your location?”
Yan Hui: “There were.”
Tan Yingying asked: “Were there many? There should have been many mutated patients in the hospital, right?”
“Not many.” Yan Hui brushed off some non-existent dust from her clothes and gave a particularly “punchable” answer: “Just one.”
Li Weige: “……”
Tan Yingying: “…….”
“Hahaha, I’m dying of laughter. Look at Tan Yingying and Li Weige’s faces, they’re frozen.”
“Is the crew favoring Yan Hui too much? There are tons of zombies at the school and on Lu Sheng’s side, but there’s only one at Yan Hui’s place. Is that a bit biased?”
“Maybe the crew was afraid Yan Hui couldn’t handle it, so they only put one zombie there to prevent her from getting angry and quitting on the spot?”
“I don’t care about that, I just think what Yan Hui said was so deliberate and showy. Look at Tan Yingying and Li Weige’s expressions—it’s like ‘Are you kidding me?’, XSWL (Laughing my head off) hahaha…”
“There was only one zombie in the hospital, and he ended up tied up on the floor by Yan Hui, unable to move. I’m dead, haha…”
Before they even reached the amusement park, they heard the sound of many footsteps. The three looked at each other and immediately hid in a supermarket by the road. Li Weige poked his head out to look and saw Lu Sheng and Ou Jie running for their lives. Just as he was about to shout for the two to come over, Yan Hui immediately covered his mouth.
“Don’t shout. Look behind them.”
Li Weige looked behind Lu Sheng and Ou Jie. It was a massive, dark crowd of zombies. “Holy sh*t, there must be over a hundred of them, right?”
Tan Yingying glanced at him and reminded: “You just cursed.”
Li Weige: “……”
“Don’t worry about that right now,” Yan Hui looked back at where they were currently staying. “Better think of a way to save… those two.”
Tan Yingying looked at the zombies and said worriedly: “How do we save them? The five of us can’t beat those zombies.”
“Who said we have to fight?” Yan Hui smiled. “Am I such a violent person?”
Li Weige said with a black line on his face: “…..Then can you put down the kitchen knife in your hand first?”
