Make Her Heart Flutter - Chapter 45
It was already evening when they stepped out, and now, watching the sun gradually sink, Jiang Qi glanced at the crew’s vehicle, her eyes flickering with a hint of calculation.
Chi Shuang understood Jiang Qi’s intention almost instantly, hesitating slightly, “Is that really appropriate?”
Jiang Qi chuckled softly, “We’re not exactly snatching it outright. We’ll still symbolically ask for his opinion, relatively speaking.”
Chi Shuang nodded, “You’re right.”
Ending their silent exchange, they both turned to face the cameraman simultaneously.
You… what are you two planning?
Though the cameraman couldn’t speak, his step backward clearly conveyed his inner trepidation.
Two women with godlike beauty stood before the camera, it should have been a visual feast, a paradise for appearance enthusiasts.
Yet, an inexplicable sense of dread lingered, especially for the two cameramen on site.
“Don’t worry, we just want to borrow your electric scooter,” Jiang Qi said with a smile.
But it wasn’t the gentle smile she reserved for Chi Shuang; Jiang Qi always managed to twist it into something vaguely sinister.
“Look, the other four guests are still waiting for us to return. If we’re late, it’ll definitely delay the filming schedule,” Chi Shuang frowned, her expression full of concern.
That did seem to make sense.
The two PDs exchanged glances and nodded in agreement.
Seeing their acquiescence, Chi Shuang flashed another smile, a faint dimple appearing at the corner of her lips. “Thank you both! We’ll treat you to coffee later.”
Jiang Qi smoothly took over the electric scooter, carrying their belongings, and shot Chi Shuang a radiant smile. “Come on.”
Before getting on, Chi Shuang waved to the two cameramen. “Don’t worry, we’ll explain to the director as soon as we get back and have her send a car to pick you up.”
The two cameramen stood there bewildered, exchanging confused looks. That sounds reasonable, but we never actually agreed to lend it!
Yet, the two had already vanished in a flash, not even their taillights visible.
With the subjects gone, there was no need to keep holding the heavy camera.
“Hey, wait. Those two…?” Cameraman No. 1 felt something was off. “Don’t you think we’ve been tricked?”
Cameraman No. 2 checked the time on his phone. “It’s fine, it’s only 5:30. Summer days are long, and the nursing home isn’t far. They’ll probably be back to pick us up before dark.”
Cameraman No. 1 gave him a complicated look. “…I-”
“What’s wrong? Even if it’s a bit late, it’s no big deal. You’re not scared of the dark, are you?” Cameraman No. 2 joked, nudging his arm with a shoulder.
Cameraman No. 1 sighed deeply. “Actually, we have phones. Why couldn’t we just call for a ride?”
Yeah, why didn’t they?
…
Meanwhile, freed from the camera crew, the two relaxed considerably. The warm summer breeze brushed past their ears, and the faint scent of chocolate milk from behind made everything feel incredibly perfect to Jiang Qi.
“Why didn’t we just call?” Chi Shuang voiced the same doubt.
Jiang Qi lowered her gaze. “I wanted to tell you, my story.”
Chi Shuang blinked in surprise. “Your story?”
“Don’t want to hear it?” When facing Chi Shuang, Jiang Qi always became gentle and soft, as if it were innate, unconsciously switching to this tender state.
“You just don’t want to tell me!” There was definitely a bit of tsundere in her.
Jiang Qi freed one hand and reached back to ruffle Chi Shuang’s soft hair. “I’m going to tell you!”
Without waiting for Chi Shuang’s reaction, she began telling the story: “This morning I mentioned I was raised by my grandmother. Well… not exactly. Only until I was seven, just until seven.”
“But my grandmother was wonderful, my most important family member.”
“When I was little, I almost wasn’t considered part of the Jiang family. Back then, my mother had just given birth to me, about three or four months prior. She and my father took me to the park.”
Jiang Qi’s storytelling voice was different from her usual tone, by current online voice classification standards, it fell somewhere between a youthful girl’s voice and a mature woman’s voice. Her delivery was steady without fluctuation, yet magically compelling.
“When they returned that evening, my grandmother noticed something off about my clothes. It turned out they had brought home the wrong baby, someone else’s child.”
Jiang Qi let out a short laugh. “My grandmother was so frantic, running around in circles. When they returned to the park, they found the other family equally panicked.”
Jiang Qi felt Chi Shuang rest her chin on her shoulder. “Those two pairs of parents were really careless.”
“The other child was with a nanny,” Jiang Qi continued, her voice carrying a hint of amusement.
But Chi Shuang, sitting behind her, couldn’t see her face or whether there was any sadness in Jiang Qi’s eyes.
She could only wrap her arms around Jiang Qi’s waist, holding her tight. Tighter.
“Actually, my mother was quite frantic too, even cried from worry.”
Hearing this, Chi Shuang breathed a sigh of relief. Indeed, the graceful and dignified Mrs. Jiang from her memories wasn’t someone who would neglect her own child.
“Then what happened?” Chi Shuang couldn’t help asking.
“Then my father comforted her.”
Chi Shuang marveled, “Their relationship was really good!”
This time Jiang Qi genuinely laughed, a soft sound. “Of course. My parents have the best relationship of any couple I’ve ever seen. My mother was crying uncontrollably at home while my grandmother and the nanny were desperately searching for me in the park.”
Wait, something didn’t quite add up? Normally, shouldn’t finding the child be the priority?
Probably they were just young and overwhelmed at the time.
In Chi Shuang’s heart, Mrs. Jiang had left a favorable impression, so she wouldn’t immediately assume the worst of Jiang Qi’s parents.
As they talked, they were approaching the nursing home.
Chi Shuang released her arms from around Jiang Qi’s waist. They were entering surveillance range now, so they needed to be more careful.
Thinking of Jiang Qi’s slender waist, Chi Shuang felt reluctant to let go, experiencing for the first time the desire to make their relationship public.
While lost in thought, the scooter had already stopped.
Chi Shuang got off and took some of the items while Jiang Qi parked the vehicle and carried the rest.
If they just left everything openly in the common room, the elderly residents would definitely refuse to accept them. So, Chi Shuang and Jiang Qi first placed the items in the kitchen, then instructed Xiao Lin to distribute them to the elders after they left.
Xiao Lin wiped her moist eyes. “Good children, you’re both such good children.”
He was nearly forty, so it was only natural for him to call them “kids.”
“It’s the least we could do. We came empty-handed and have been eating so much of Grandma and Grandpa’s food,” Chi Shuang replied with a smile.
“Let’s go,” Jiang Qi said, pulling Chi Shuang out of the kitchen, only to run into Jiang Ran.
“You two are finally back! Grandma and Grandpa have been talking about you nonstop,” Jiang Ran exclaimed, looking at them as if they were saviors.
“Huh?” Jiang Qi was puzzled.
Jiang Ran explained, “There’s a winter jujube tree behind the yard that’s bearing fruit. One of the grandpas secretly climbed up to pick some for us. The tree is really tall, and he was afraid we’d stop him, so he went without telling anyone.”
