Make Her Heart Flutter - Chapter 27
At this thought, the director rubbed his temples, there was work waiting for him.
He glanced back at Chi Shuang, who sat in the car as poised as a painting, and Jiang Qi, who was fiddling with her phone beside her. “The assistant director will ride with you two later. I’ll go to Yan Xu’s car.”
Chi Shuang waved cheerfully. “Take care, Director.”
Jiang Qi nodded to show she understood.
These two ancestors! I’m just a director, and now I’ve become a PR manager! Resigned, the director got out of the car just as his phone rang.
“Hello? Yes, speaking…”
His voice faded into the distance. Jiang Qi pulled a half-opened bag of preserved plums from her backpack. “Here, have some if you feel sick on the road. The motion sickness medicine should still be somewhat effective.”
Chi Shuang took it and immediately popped one into her mouth, then asked as if she were the host, “Do you want some?”
Jiang Qi shook her head, a little concerned. “Are you feeling sick already?”
Chi Shuang blinked before realizing what she meant. “No, I’m fine. These plums are really tasty.”
“Oh.” Jiang Qi breathed a sigh of relief.
By the time the car returned to the small village, it was almost ten o’clock. The road was pitch black, and occasionally, their passing stirred up barks from dogs.
Jiang Qi kept an eye on Chi Shuang throughout the ride. Thankfully, she didn’t get carsick again, and Jiang Qi relaxed.
It was already ten when they got home. Exhausted from the long day, everyone was too tired to do much and headed straight to their rooms to wash up and sleep.
Jiang Qi was drying her hair after a shower when her phone, charging on the desk, chimed.
She continued drying her hair leisurely, assuming it was Lin Wei and ignoring it. But then her phone chimed repeatedly with incoming messages.
Reluctantly, Jiang Qi glanced at it. Facial recognition quickly unlocked the screen, switching to the messaging app.
It was a newly created group chat.
[Jiang Ran: Sister Jiang and Sister Chi were so cool today.]
[Tang Qiluo: I never expected someone as aloof as Xiao Qi to stand up for Yanyan.]
[Jiang Ran: Hehe, I wanted to flip them off too, but Brother Yan Xu stopped me.]
[Jiang Ran: By the way, where’s Brother Yan Xu? Taking a shower?]
[Shang Chumu: ??? What happened?]
Shang Chumu had gone straight to the studio after getting out of the car because he needed to use the restroom, so he had no idea what had happened on the road.
[Tang Qiluo: The director is talking to him now.]
…
Scrolling through the messages, Jiang Qi noticed that most of the discussion was about her, but she didn’t chime in. A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched her lips.
Just as she was about to turn off her phone, she noticed a small red dot in the lower left corner.
Someone added me on the messaging app?
Jiang Qi tapped to check, wow, Chi Shuang!
It was only then that she remembered: they had been living together for over half a month but hadn’t even exchanged contact info on the app.
Before her brain could fully process it, her fingers had already automatically accepted the friend request.
Chi Shuang’s username was “Xiao Chi,” and her profile picture was a hand-drawn cartoon girl that bore a striking resemblance to her.
Soon, a message came through from the other side.
[Xiao Chi: Thanks for the preserved plums today.]
She’s right across from me, yet she’s sending a message. Though she mentally grumbled, the happiness in her eyes grew even brighter.
[Jiang Qi: You’re welcome.]
After sending that, Jiang Qi waited for a while, but there was no reply. She lowered her lashes and typed, “I have more. Do you want some? I’ll bring you a couple of packs tomorrow?”
After typing it out, she felt it was odd and deleted everything, starting over with: “If you like it, I still have some here.”
Jiang Qi didn’t send the message immediately but pondered for a while. Just then, another message came from the other side.
[Xiao Chi: ?]
Jiang Qi quickly deleted that line and replied with three question marks.
[Xiao Chi: You’ve been “typing” for ages.]
Jiang Qi’s smile froze on her face. Covering her face, she trembled as she typed a few words.
[Jiang Qi: It’s nothing. Good night.]
[Xiao Chi: Mhm, good night~]
[Xiao Chi: [Good night.jpg]]
Jiang Qi stared at the incredibly cute goodnight sticker, feeling as though she had completely lost face. The smiling little character in the sticker seemed to be mocking her.
Just as her hair had dried, Jiang Qi collapsed onto the soft bed, burying her face in the pillows and blankets.
During the daytime shoot, she hadn’t eaten properly. After the incident with the fans blocking them, no one dared to go to a proper restaurant outside.
In the end, the photography assistant brought everyone some dry bread and bottled water. They ate just enough to fill their stomachs and stave off hunger.
Coincidentally, Jiang Qi’s stomach growled.
She roughly tossed aside the covers she had been hiding under. Since she was young, she had this habit, if she was hungry, she couldn’t sleep.
She patted her stomach, carefully thought about whether there was any food in the room, and then began rummaging through everything.
Though she was searching frantically, she kept in mind that the old building had poor soundproofing. After quietly searching for a long time, all she found were two packs of preserved plums and an energy bar.
She couldn’t bring herself to touch the preserved plums, so she pitifully nibbled on the energy bar.
Knock knock
“You’re still awake, right?”
The door was knocked, accompanied by a girl’s gentle voice.
“Not yet!” Jiang Qi stuffed the energy bar wrapper into the trash, tidied up the mess on the table, and hurried to open the door.
Standing before her was Chi Shuang, wearing a long nightgown, her hair flowing loosely, with a faint dimple when she smiled.
Jiang Qi, feeling a bit choked up, couldn’t help but cough twice. “Ahem! So-sorry.”
Hearing her cough so violently, Chi Shuang sounded worried. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Jiang Qi recovered and waved her hand.
Only then did Chi Shuang remember why she had come. “Are you hungry? I made some noodles. Want to eat together?”
“How did you…” know I was hungry? The words slipped out halfway, but Jiang Qi, ever concerned about her pride, pressed her lips together and changed her tone. “How can you eat so late at night? You’ll gain weight.”
The warmth in Chi Shuang’s eyes turned to faint reproach. Confirmed! this person really doesn’t know how to talk.
“Then you can gain weight with me!” With that, Chi Shuang grabbed Jiang Qi’s wrist and pulled her downstairs.
The slightly annoyed, willful tone made Jiang Qi chuckle.
Usually, she saw Chi Shuang as picture-perfect, just the right amount of gentleness, just the right smile, and just the right politeness, always knowing how to carry herself.
But these past couple of days, Chi Shuang seemed a bit more… human. How to put it? More alive.
This version of Chi Shuang made it even harder for Jiang Qi to look away.
As their steps reached the first stair, Jiang Qi suddenly snapped to attention: “Wait, wait!”
Chi Shuang halted, puzzled: “What’s wrong?”
