Make Her Heart Flutter - Chapter 22
She probably… isn’t angry anymore, right? Jiang Qi thought.
Truth be told, Jiang Qi was quite happy that the spinner had landed on her. According to the game rules, Chi Shuang should be the one asking the question. This way, she’d have a reason to talk to Chi Shuang.
“I… choose Truth,” Jiang Qi said, tilting her head to glance at Chi Shuang.
Chi Shuang licked her lips, her gaze deepening. There were so many questions she wanted to ask, but…
“Do you have someone you like?” Chi Shuang curved her eyes, pretending to be nosy as she asked.
Someone… she liked?
“Ooh~~”
“Oh ho!”
Everyone started teasing.
Jiang Qi was momentarily stunned. She hadn’t expected Chi Shuang to ask such a question.
Was it because she was jealous? Because of her earlier cold attitude? But when she saw Chi Shuang’s playful, mischievous expression, she felt she might be overthinking it.
After silently repeating to herself over a dozen times, “Self-awareness is a virtue,” Jiang Qi shook her head. “No.”
She’d tell a little white lie. Her feelings for Chi Shuang didn’t quite seem to fit the definition of “like” just yet.
“Tch, how boring. Someone as straight as Xiao Qi will never have a beautiful Omega falling for her!” Tang Qiluo swallowed a bite of grilled fish, striking a pretentious pose with a flourish of his fingers.
“Hahahaha, Qiluo, you’re so girly!” Shang Chumu laughed gleefully, only to receive a light flick on the forehead.
Jiang Qi stole a few subtle glances at Chi Shuang, but the other girl showed no particular reaction, merely laughing and joking along with everyone else.
A faint sense of disappointment stirred within her, vague and hard to articulate. She picked up the drink on the table and downed it in one go. The feelings of “like” she had tried to banish from her mind inexplicably returned, swirling in her thoughts.
Eventually, they took the form of Chi Shuang.
The air grew stifling, and her chest began to burn.
Did she really not like her?
“Hahaha, it’s Xiao Qi again! See, Lady Luck has withdrawn her favor from you!” Tang Qiluo laughed, slapping his thigh.
This time, it was Yan Xu who had spun the spinner to land on her. Jiang Qi sighed. “Go ahead, Truth.”
Yan Xu pondered for a moment before asking, “What has been your biggest wish, from childhood until now?”
A wish? If it’s already come true, can it still be called a wish?
Young Miss Jiang had never wanted for anything since she was little, there was nothing she desired that she couldn’t have.
After thinking for a long while, Jiang Qi finally came up with one: “Before I presented at sixteen, I wanted to be a beta.”
“A beta? Why?” Jiang Ran blinked.
In this era, although equality among Alphas, Betas, and Omegas was advocated, true equality had yet to be achieved. Societal resources, whether subtly or overtly, tended to tilt in favor of Alphas.
“That’s a question for another round,” Jiang Qi raised an eyebrow, feeling an inexplicable heat spreading throughout her body, as if she were about to catch fire.
“Tch!” Jiang Ran pouted. “Next round, next round!” Her unsatisfied curiosity left her unusually irritated, and she swore that when it was her turn, she would make sure the spinner landed on Jiang Qi.
“Whose turn is it? Was it Yanyan just now? Now it’s Chumu’s turn, right?” Tang Qiluo glanced at the person beside him.
Shang Chumu nodded, grinning mischievously. “My turn!”
As the spinner whirled rapidly, Jiang Qi felt a bit dizzy watching it and decided to shift her gaze to Chi Shuang’s face instead.
“Really… so beautiful.” Chi Shuang was bare-faced today, yet her skin still seemed to glow with radiance. Her eyebrows, perhaps unplucked for a couple of days, had a slightly untamed charm. Though the ends of her eyes tilted upward, there was no sharpness to them, when she smiled, she looked gentle and innocent.
“Eh? It’s Sister Chi Shuang!” Shang Chumu exclaimed in surprise. “No wonder Sister Jiang was looking at Sister Chi Shuang even before the pointer stopped! Sister Jiang, do you have some secret trick to know where the pointer will land?”
Yan Xu smiled faintly: What a fool.
Jiang Qi: “…”
Seeing that Jiang Qi remained silent, Shang Chumu was about to ask again when Yan Xu interjected, “The one you’re questioning is Xiao Shuang.”
“Oh, right! Sister Chi Shuang is also being pointed at for the first time today, right?” Shang Chumu quickly dropped his previous confusion and asked.
“That’s right, so are you going to go easy on your sister?” Chi Shuang sighed deliberately, teasing him.
“Ah… well…” Perhaps due to the alcohol, Shang Chumu suddenly found himself at a loss for words, stammering for a while.
“Don’t be fooled by the enemy! Shang Chumu!” Jiang Ran clenched her fists and shouted.
“Ah, Ranran, you’re breaking my heart,” Chi Shuang said, adopting a pitiful and mournful expression.
Jiang Ran covered her face, trying to avoid looking at Chi Shuang, and muttered, “No, no, not even my idol.”
Everyone laughed. Tang Qiluo, never one to miss a chance to stir things up, remarked, “Well, it seems in Ranran’s heart, the game is more important.”
Shang Chumu, who had nearly been swayed, nodded firmly at this, adopting a businesslike tone: “Truth or dare?”
Chi Shuang’s eyes curved into crescents: “Since everyone’s choosing truth, I’ll go with truth too!”
Shang Chumu scratched his head, unsure what to ask, and decided to borrow the question Chi Shuang had asked Jiang Qi earlier: “Sister Chi, do you have someone you like?”
“Someone I like…” Chi Shuang repeated lazily, as if reminiscing.
Then, she chuckled softly: “I have.”
Shang Chumu quickly latched onto a detail: “Have? Did you get together?”
Chi Shuang replied with a smile: “We were together.”
As her words fell, Chi Shuang noticed that the gaze that had been almost constantly fixed on her had vanished.
Jiang Qi lowered her eyelids, her long lashes trembling slightly. Unlike her usual cool and detached demeanor, she seemed a bit pitiful.
She had seen it clearly earlier, when Chi Shuang spoke of having liked someone, the look of reminiscence on her face was tender, different from her usual gentleness. It was the kind of tenderness that softened one’s heart into water.
Well, it wasn’t exactly surprising. After all, self-awareness is a virtue.
“Then-”
Before Shang Chumu could finish, Chi Shuang cut him off: “Little Chumu, you’ve already used up one extra question. If you keep asking, we’ll be playing until tomorrow.”
Yan Xu checked his watch, it was indeed getting late.
On the final spin of the wheel, it landed on Jiang Qi again. Everyone seemed to recall the unfinished question from earlier.
Before anyone could speak, Jiang Qi poured herself a glass of wine, tilted her head back, and drank it down. Still with downcast eyes, she murmured softly, “I choose neither.”
No one had ever seen Jiang Qi like this before. They exchanged uncertain glances.
Yan Xu observed her and said, “Is she drunk?”
“Really? But she just drank it?” Tang Qiluo wondered aloud.
“At the beginning, didn’t Ranran pour everyone a glass of wine? The alcohol content was quite high, so no one drank it,” Yan Xu explained, then pointed at the empty glass in front of Jiang Qi. “See, this was the glass.”
“It seems she’s drunk, but fortunately, Xiao Qi doesn’t get rowdy when drunk, she just stays quiet,” Tang Qiluo sighed with relief.
“Is this alright? Xiao Shuang, help her upstairs to rest. We’ll clean up here,” Yan Xu suggested.
Although drunk, Jiang Qi still seemed conscious. She was probably just feeling a bit unwell.
