Luring The Heartless Cultivator Senior Sister Into Falling In Love - Chapter 4
Before heading to the Mission Pavilion with Feng Qiannian, Mu Chujing returned to her own cave dwelling. Having arrived in this world only recently, she was still quite curious about her living environment.
She had some lingering impressions of her residence in her mind, but after all, she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes. Since arriving in this world, she had only seen Nalan Ran’s cave.
Accustomed to high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, the layout of a cultivation cave felt novel to her.
Mu Chujing’s cave was located within the cluster of dwellings for disciples of the Hall of Enshrined Emotions. Because the number of disciples practicing the “Path of Sentiments” (Yuqing Dao) was scarce, their caves were all arranged in one area.
When she arrived in front of her residence with Feng Qiannian, Mu Chujing felt a bit dazed looking at the sturdy stone door before her.
Carved directly above the stone door was Mu Chujing’s name, and in front of the door, several medicine bottles, talismans, and similar items were arranged neatly.
Mu Chujing was startled. In her mind, the faces of several other senior sisters from the Path of Sentiments instantly surfaced, these were also senior sisters who looked after her immensely.
They had never been prejudiced against her because of her level of attainment in the Path of Sentiments.
“These must have been sent by the senior sisters.” Mu Chujing bent down to put them one by one into her spatial container, then placed her hands on the stone door.
The stone door sensed the familiar aura of its owner and opened automatically.
“Looking at it this way, I really can’t give up on the Path of Sentiments.” Mu Chujing turned slightly and made a gesture of invitation, signaling for Feng Qiannian to enter first. “Senior Sister Feng.”
Feng Qiannian naturally didn’t stand on ceremony and followed her lead, saying, “You are the youngest in the inner sect, it is only right that the senior sisters look after you.”
Whether it was “right” or not, Mu Chujing sincerely took this kindness to heart.
Looking around the cave, there weren’t many items. Aside from a few daily necessities, it was quite empty, appearing cold and lonely.
However, Mu Chujing loved this quiet, solitary atmosphere. She walked leisurely to the nearest chair and sat down. Two seconds later, remembering something, she stood up: “Right, Senior Sister, are we going to the Mission Pavilion now?”
Feng Qiannian gave her an odd look, laughed, and then asked, “Did you come back to the cave just to sit down for a second and then leave?”
Mu Chujing’s behavior was indeed a bit strange in the eyes of others. Why take a detour to the cave for no reason? Wasn’t it just a waste of time and extra walking?
Before Mu Chujing could cook up an excuse, Feng Qiannian spoke again: “Let’s go. At this hour, the Mission Pavilion is at its busiest. Perhaps we can find a task better suited for you.”
Previously, Feng Qiannian had suggested Mu Chujing help her control furnace fires, but if they found something better for Mu Chujing, it might help her cultivation progress further.
As one of the places with the highest foot traffic in the Mingyue Sect, the tasks posted daily at the Mission Pavilion were diverse and strange.
They ranged from large scale tasks like hunting top-tier spirit beasts for their cores to small tasks like finding a lost spirit pet. The rewards varied greatly as well.
Standing in the main hall of the Mission Pavilion, Mu Chujing felt dazzled looking at the mission boards in the center of the hall.
The missions were categorized into four grades based on difficulty: Heaven (Tian), Earth (Di), Black (Xuan), and Yellow (Huang). Heaven grade missions were the hardest and offered the highest rewards.
However, that wasn’t always the case. The spirit stone prices corresponding to the mission grades only had a minimum requirement, there was no upper limit.
For instance, there were wealthy cultivators who would post a Yellow grade task but offer a price higher than that of a Black-grade task.
Regarding such people, Mu Chujing could only silently comment in her heart: It’s great to be rich.
Naturally, she hoped she would run into someone like that.
“Nalan’s cabinet of pills would probably cost about 10,000 spirit stones to replace,” Mu Chujing murmured to herself. “That would require completing a middle-tier Black-grade mission.”
“Kill a Fourth Rank Fire Spirit Beast and obtain its core.” On the Earth-grade mission board, Mu Chujing spotted a newly popped-up task. “A Fourth Rank Fire Spirit Beast is only considered a middle-tier Black grade task?”
Licking her lips, Mu Chujing clicked her tongue: “This is going to be the death of me. I’m just an Orange Spirit who can’t even control her spiritual energy yet.”
“But it allows for team completion. If I find a team and just ‘be a salted fish’ (slack off), it should be fine, right?” Mu Chujing talked to herself.
Next to this mission, someone had already posted a team invite. It was a seven persons squad needing two more members, but the minimum spiritual cultivation requirement was at least Yellow Spirit Lower-Rank.
“I am unworthy.” Mu Chujing immediately abandoned the idea of being a “salted fish.”
A middle-tier Black-grade mission was far too difficult for her current self, the probability of success was practically zero.
Knowing her limits, Mu Chujing immediately gave up on that task. As for the Earth and Heaven grade boards next to it, she didn’t even spare them a glance.
She walked over to the Lower-Rank Black-grade mission board, resting two fingers on her chin, stroking it gently.
If she chose lower-rank Black-grade missions, she would have to do several of them to scrape together 10,000 spirit stones.
If my ability isn’t enough, I’ll make up for it with quantity, Mu Chujing thought.
A new mission popped up on the Black-grade board:
[Seeking a Fire attribute cultivator with a Spirit Pearl purity of Grade 6 or above to assist in furnace fire control.]
The poster shown below was none other than Feng Qiannian.
“One thousand spirit stones for ten days,” Mu Chujing whispered. “If I go work for Senior Sister Feng, it’ll take a hundred days to pay off Nalan’s lost pills.”
“What are you muttering about?” Feng Qiannian, having finished posting her mission, walked toward Mu Chujing. Seeing her frowning and looking distressed, she asked with concern, “Can’t find a suitable task?”
Mu Chujing nodded.
“What kind are you looking for?” Feng Qiannian asked, intending to help her look.
Mu Chujing was too embarrassed to say it plainly. She wanted something with little work and lots of money.
As she stammered without giving a clear answer, Feng Qiannian glanced helplessly at the mission board. The mission she had just posted was already glowing with a green light, indicating it had been claimed.
“Why so fast today?” Feng Qiannian instinctively looked at the posting token hanging from her waist, which displayed the name of the person who took the mission.
It seemed that the mission she specifically posted for Junior Sister Mu was a missed opportunity.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a task pop up on the Yellow-grade board.
Feng Qiannian took a casual glance, but after seeing the poster’s name, she immediately spoke the name aloud: “Is Qingfan also at the Mission Pavilion?”
Hearing this name, Mu Chujing instinctively looked up toward Feng Qiannian: “Senior Sister, were you just talking about Senior Sister Bai?”
Feng Qiannian nodded and gestured for Mu Chujing to look at the new mission on the board:
[Seeking a cultivator with a purity of Grade 7 or above, Fire attribute Spirit Pearl, and cultivation at the Orange Spirit level.]
Poster: Bai Qingfan.
Bai Qingfan’s requirements were much more specific than others. In the entire Mingyue Sect, there were no more than a hundred people with Fire Spirit Pearls of Grade 7 purity or higher.
With the cultivation level restricted to Orange Spirit, the number of eligible people dropped to a handful.
“A Yellow-grade Upper-tier task for 1,000 spirit stones a day? I’m so jealous. The last lower-rank Black-grade mission I did only paid 2,000 spirit stones,” a sect disciple at the board said to a companion.
“Tell me about it. Yellow-grade Upper-tier shouldn’t be that hard. Too bad my purity is high enough, but my attribute isn’t Fire,” the companion sighed.
“But with Senior Sister Bai’s cold personality, and the task isn’t specified… who knows what it’s for. 1,000 spirit stones for a Yellow-grade task, Senior Sister Bai is truly extravagant,” the first cultivator added.
Conversations buzzed all around…
Mu Chujing’s eyes lit up. Whether it was the purity, the spirit pearl attribute, or the cultivation level, she met all of Bai Qingfan’s requirements.
And perhaps she could even get some close contact with Bai Qingfan.
This mission was practically tailor-made for her.
“Senior Sister, how do I accept this mission?” Mu Chujing asked with sparkling eyes, looking at the person beside her who seemed lost in thought.
She had no information on how to claim tasks at the Mission Pavilion.
Feng Qiannian snapped back to her senses and pointed behind the Yellow-grade mission board: “That’s the place for claiming and posting Yellow-grade missions. Just state which mission you want to take.”
“Got it.” Mu Chujing hurried over.
Before long, Mu Chujing returned holding a blue and white jade token. In the center of the token was a large character for “Yellow” (Huang), and below it were the smaller characters for “Upper-tier.”
On the back of the jade token, the poster’s name shimmered: Bai Qingfan.
“Senior Sister Feng, do you know what kind of task Senior Sister Bai posted?” Mu Chujing wanted to fish for some information to prepare herself.
Bai Qingfan’s post was too vague. If it was to kill spirit beasts for cores, she would definitely return this mission token immediately.
She wasn’t confident enough to fight the spirit beasts of this world and expect to win. Currently, she couldn’t even fully control her spiritual energy.
“I’m not sure either, but if it’s paid by the day, it’s likely similar to the task I posted today,” Feng Qiannian said after some thought.
If it were for spirit cores, the price wouldn’t be calculated per day, but rather by the value of the core itself.
“Perhaps it’s related to formations,” Feng Qiannian guessed.
“Formations? Isn’t Senior Sister Bai a music cultivator who minored in the Path of Heartlessness (Wuqing Dao)? Could she be posting the mission for someone else?” Mu Chujing was surprised.
If that were the case, wouldn’t there be a high probability she wouldn’t even meet Bai Qingfan? Black lines of frustration seemed to run down her face, what would be the point of taking this mission then?
Oh, the high amount of spirit stones. That’s the main reason, Mu Chujing realized.
Feng Qiannian stopped walking and turned to look at Mu Chujing.
Mu Chujing didn’t react and kept walking with her head down. After walking several meters, she realized the person beside her was gone. She turned around to see Feng Qiannian standing still, looking at her with a hint of a smile.
For a split second, the thought that she had been seen through flashed across her mind. Mu Chujing was startled and quickly stepped back toward her, laughing, “Senior Sister, why didn’t you tell me when you stopped?”
Feng Qiannian acted as if she had just noticed, shook her head silently, and continued the previous topic as they walked: “Qingfan has also made achievements in the field of formations.”
“The path of cultivation isn’t about doing many things, but about mastery. Just like all things in the world, there are always those who are gifted and can handle many things at once and do them perfectly. Qingfan is that kind of person,” Feng Qiannian said.
“In the Path of Heartlessness, after all these years, only one Bai Qingfan has emerged.” Feng Qiannian seemed to be sighing, yet also praising her. “This time, perhaps you really can learn a lot from her.”
Feng Qiannian looked down at the jade token held in Mu Chujing’s palm: “You can head to the Formation Spirit Pavilion now. The moment you accepted the task, Qingfan would have sensed it. She is likely already waiting for you.”
