Love Notebook of a Reclusive Beautiful Boy - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
When they came out, there was a police squad patrolling outside, and the sirens were very loud.
Just as Jiang Sheng was preparing to let Du Yu get into the car, someone called him from not far away.
“Brother Jiang!”
Jiang Sheng turned his head and saw it was Song Jiahao.
He was walking over from a distance with a few of his brothers from the police squad. Those officers had all arrived just this year and had never seen Jiang Sheng before.
Song Jiahao wore a black uniform and looked a bit bohemian, not even wearing his hat, revealing his newly shorn buzz cut.
Jiang Sheng used to be the leader of the investigation team, and Song Jiahao was a member under him; the two were life-and-death friends. After Jiang Sheng left, he had taken over Jiang Sheng’s position.
Song Jiahao joked, “Long time no see, Brother Jiang. How is it in the wealthy manor? Is the wealthy stepmother glamorous?”
He spoke and laughed, then caught sight of Du Yu beside Jiang Sheng. “This is… the Young Master of the Du family?”
Jiang Sheng didn’t answer him. He pulled open the car door and said softly to Du Yu, “A-Yu, you get in the car first.”
Du Yu was indeed obedient. Holding the photo frame, he was just about to get into the car when Song Jiahao blocked him and said, “Hey, hey, hey, what are you doing? I haven’t even chatted for a few sentences yet, why are you telling him to leave?”
He reached out his hand and said to Du Yu with a beaming face, “I am Song Jiahao from the Jinkang Police Squad, a former colleague of Jiang Sheng. I wonder if I might have the honor of meeting Young Master Du?”
Du Yu’s clean eyes looked toward Song Jiahao. He didn’t speak, but instead turned his gaze toward Jiang Sheng.
Jiang Sheng smiled and patted his shoulder. “Go on in.”
Song Jiahao shouted “Hey, hey, hey,” wanting to squeeze forward to talk to Du Yu.
After all, his dream in this life was to become a rich man, and getting to know a wealthy young master was clearly the first step toward approaching that dream.
Unfortunately, he was firmly blocked by Jiang Sheng’s solid arm.
“Wait for me for a bit.”
Jiang Sheng said a word to Old Ma, then gently closed the car door.
Song Jiahao said dejectedly, “That’s not very loyal, Brother Jiang. I only wanted to say two words to him, is that not allowed? How long have you been on the job? You’ve already forgotten your brothers.”
Jiang Sheng ignored him; he had long since grown accustomed to this behavior.
Jiang Sheng pulled out a pack of cigarettes, put one in his mouth, pulled out another, and handed it to Song Jiahao. “Do you want one?”
Song Jiahao took the cigarette and turned to the brothers behind him. “You guys go look around elsewhere first.”
Having said that, he turned back, and while preparing to smoke, he said to Jiang Sheng, “Don’t think of one cigarette… Wow, why are you still smoking Old Meishan?”
He looked at the brand on the cigarette. “You’ve entered a wealthy household after all; at the very least you should switch to Six Leopards, or otherwise change to cigars. Old Meishan… it’s so beneath your status.”
Jiang Sheng was too lazy to explain to him. “Are you smoking it or not? If not, give it back.”
“Smoking, smoking… Old Meishan it is then. At least I don’t have to spend money on it.”
As he spoke, he fumbled a box of matches from his pocket and lightly nudged Jiang Sheng with his elbow. “Lighting a cigarette for the future Boss Jiang…”
Jiang Sheng lowered his head, and Song Jiahao lit his cigarette. Before the flame went out, he lit his own as well.
He intentionally teased Jiang Sheng, “Is being in a wealthy household much easier than being in the police squad?”
Jiang Sheng leaned against the car door, took a drag, and slowly exhaled the smoke. “Mhm.”
It was indeed much easier, and more importantly, the salary had increased dozens of times over.
To be honest, having this money did indeed allow him some breathing room.
Furthermore, he glanced through the car window at the obediently sitting Du Yu—a pure and simple face. He felt that this job was actually quite good.
Seeing his serious expression, Song Jiahao couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t plan on coming back?”
Jiang Sheng glanced at him. “Not going back. Having you in the police squad is enough.”
“Don’t, don’t, don’t. You overrate me.” Song Jiahao flicked his cigarette. “How could I manage? I still have to rely on you.”
After saying that, he glanced at Du Yu in the car. “Boss Du is in the newspapers every day, but this is the first time seeing the Du family young master. How is he? I see you’ve handled him quite well. Does the Du family lack bodyguards? How about recommending me?”
Jiang Sheng had nearly finished his cigarette. He took one last drag and then crushed the butt under his foot. “I’m off.”
“Hey, we haven’t even said much, why are you leaving already?”
Jiang Sheng waved his hand and opened the car door. “Leaving.”
Even now, Song Jiahao didn’t forget to recommend himself. At the moment the car door opened, he squeezed his head in. “Young Master Du, I am Song Jia… of the Jinkang Police Squad.”
Before he could finish, he was forcefully kicked out by Jiang Sheng.
…
By the time they returned to the Du house, it was already dinner time. The servants were serving the dishes. At the dining table, Du Yanyu, Yao Xiaohui, and Fang Ma were already seated.
Seeing Du Yu and Jiang Sheng return, Du Yanyu said to Jiang Sheng, “Come and eat.”
Actually, strictly speaking, Jiang Sheng, like Fang Ma, was a servant and had no right to sit at the table.
However, these were all old rules, and Du Yanyu didn’t care about such things, so he ignored them.
Jiang Sheng and Du Yu sat at the table. Du Yanyu asked Du Yu with a smile, “A-Yu, did you pick out the photo frame?”
Du Yu nodded obediently.
“What kind? Let Papa see.”
Du Yu obediently placed the frame on the table. The photo hadn’t been put in yet, and perhaps because it wasn’t the one belonging to Du Li, he wasn’t as nervous as before.
In truth, for Du Yanyu, looking at this frame didn’t matter at all; he simply wanted to communicate more with Du Yu and wanted him to speak.
He picked up the frame to look at it, then put it down and asked Du Yu, “So, does A-Yu like it?”
Du Yu nodded. “Like.”
“As long as you like it.” Du Yanyu smiled with relief and looked up at Jiang Sheng. “Eat. No need to be formal.”
There were many dishes. Although Du Yu required someone to look after him, he could still manage the small task of eating by himself.
The dining table was a scene of harmony. Yao Xiaohui stood up and scooped some shrimp into Du Yu’s spoon. “These are sea shrimp newly brought in this year. I specifically had Fushan buy them. Come, A-Yu, try some.”
Yao Xiaohui handled the surface-level appearances very steadily. Before Jiang Sheng arrived, she had always acted this way.
The subordinates didn’t dare speak up, and Du Yu was dazed and understood nothing—who would dare whisper in Du Yanyu’s ear?
She had fooled Du Yanyu into thinking she treated Du Yu very well.
Du Yu looked down at the shrimp in his bowl, then looked up at Jiang Sheng.
That clean, exquisite face was full of innocence.
He just looked at Jiang Sheng like that without saying a word.
It was as if he were waiting for him to speak.
Jiang Sheng caught sight of Du Yu’s black eyes, then looked at the bowl in his hand and understood Du Yu’s meaning.
He lowered his head and told him softly, “It’s okay. Eat.”
Only then did Du Yu obediently lower his head again.
He picked up the shrimp and began to bite into them.
Du Yanyu saw this and said to Jiang Sheng, “A-Yu is quite willing to listen to you.”
Jiang Sheng smiled. “Perhaps it’s from spending a lot of time together.”
Du Yanyu was very satisfied with their state. He nodded with a smile and said, “This is good. When he enters school later, you should take him to meet more friends. Go out and play with them when there’s nothing else to do. You must make A-Yu speak more.”
“Understood.”
After eating, Du Yu was taken by Fushan to bathe.
Fushan was the butler of the Du family. Besides managing the household’s miscellaneous affairs, he, like Fang Ma, looked after Du Yu. Certain things that were inconvenient for Fang Ma to do were handled by Fushan.
Jiang Sheng was taken by Du Yanyu to the study. Du Yanyu opened a drawer and handed over a Swiss Army knife. This knife was exquisitely made, and more importantly, it was retractable and very convenient to carry.
“Take this knife for self-defense. I’m not used to using this kind of thing.”
Jiang Sheng took it. It was very light with a sharp edge, perfectly suited for self-defense.
He didn’t stand during the ceremony either and smiled. “Many thanks, Mr. Du.”
“Also, find Fushan in a little while. In the future, you will be the one looking after A-Yu at school. Fushan will tell you what medicine he usually takes and how he should take it.”
After Jiang Sheng indicated his understanding, Du Yanyu let him leave.
He exited the study and looked downstairs but didn’t see Fushan.
He then looked at the rooms before him which were almost identical. To be honest, besides the attic and the living room, he had never been to other parts of the Du house.
Pushing open every door to find Fushan was certainly unrealistic.
He didn’t know that Fushan had taken Du Yu to bathe. He happened to run into a maid—the British woman who had originally brought Jiang Sheng into the Du house.
“Have you seen Fushan?”
The British woman pointed toward a room for him. Jiang Sheng gave it a glance and thanked her.
It was a room at the very end of the hallway. Jiang Sheng knocked on the door. “Master Fu?”
No one responded.
He knocked twice more. “Master Fu?”
Unexpectedly, this further knock pushed the door open.
It turned out the door hadn’t been closed tightly.
The door opened to a gap of moderate size. Jiang Sheng certainly wouldn’t just enter; this was someone else’s room.
He stood at the door and shouted through the crack again, “Is Master Fu in? I am Jiang Sheng, I have something to discuss with you.”
Still no sound.
Jiang Sheng assumed Fushan hadn’t closed the door properly when he left, so he prepared to close the door and turn to leave.
But before he could even take a step, he suddenly heard the sound of splashing water from inside, accompanied by a familiar voice: “Mhm…”
Jiang Sheng thought it sounded strange, so he turned back. This time, he pushed open the door.
“Master Fu—”
Before he could finish his sentence, he froze.
He saw the room filled with steam, and inside a white bathtub lay a naked body.
That pair of innocent and pure eyes was currently looking at him.
