- Chapter 93 - Of All People, With Theron
Asenry, who was pricked by the permit, suddenly lost her words.
How could this happen just once or twice?
Listening to such things one by one was a waste of time. It was even more frustrating because Asenry herself had told them to stay back so that these things wouldn’t cause big problems.
“The Duke really loves his wife… This is going to be a headache.”
But wasn’t it strange that the knights born and raised in the Monzeto Kingdom and my daughter recognized Duchess Rochester at a glance? Instead of reflecting that she should have been more careful to avoid such a situation, Asenry felt secretly unfair. Still, being an adult, she didn’t blurt out foolish words like Rose did.
“Haha, I was just a little busy and had overlapping schedules, so this happened. We should pay more attention to the child.”
Reus nodded slowly. His reaction was openly relieved that it didn’t come out differently. Asenry tried to hide her embarrassment, and it seemed Reus couldn’t read the feelings hidden beneath her calm face.
“I will firmly tell my daughter! This will never happen again…”
Reus was somewhat impressed.
Until just a moment ago, he pretended not to know anything. Then, without even asking what happened, he showed that he actually knew. Despite not looking like it, he seemed to have some kind of fatherly love.
He made a big fuss over just one apology from his daughter and said he would take care of everything.
Even though his raised eyebrow looked like a sneer, it was actually a serious look of admiration.
“Well, handle it yourself.”
“Ah, yes, yes. I will take good care of the child! Haha, well… women sometimes cause trouble like this.”
No matter where you go, there are always people who can’t hide their foolishness, like that guy who can’t stop showing how dumb he is.
Watching Reus dealing with such a man, Asenry regretted spending time here.
“This is not time to waste.”
People like this usually have something shady going on. Even if their business looks good now, if they can’t manage their family affairs properly, big problems will come.
“I am sorry, Your Highness, for troubling you with women’s problems.”
“Women? It was your daughter’s fault. I don’t understand why you involve my innocent wife.”
“Oh, yes! I mean my daughter, haha! She’s still a child.”
The unnecessary long talk showed he was not a good business partner. Even in this moment, Reus thought Loelle was a great help and praised his fake wife.
Without this incident, how could he have caught such a long-tongued guy?
Such things could be noticed without anyone’s help, but Reus seemed to think Loelle was a light in his life, and his expression brightened.
Of course, he still didn’t know that Loelle was sitting next to Theron, completely absorbed in the ballet.
Naturally, the carefully prepared business was torn apart so badly that it couldn’t even keep its foundation. Even without openly saying it, Reus’s clear opinion was that no business could be done with Asenry involved in Leveren.
Wasn’t everything fine until Marquis Verdick arrived? They talked about the daughter and brought up small issues, but no one would ruin things over some woman’s trouble.
Asenry had no idea why the atmosphere suddenly changed.
Since Asenry loved money so much, if Reus had openly said he wanted Rose’s apology, she might have just closed her eyes and made her daughter bow her head.
But that was not what Reus wanted.
As he said before, the earlier talk was just a show for the woman he liked. He also said it could pass peacefully only once, but Asenry didn’t understand.
Even if Asenry had grabbed the chance, Reus had no intention to let it go.
Why bother watching tiring people who make women suffer just by looking at them? There was not much time left to be together, and he didn’t understand why he had to stir up those feelings more.
Still, since Loelle didn’t touch the daughter as he wanted, the matter was settled well. Reus thought he was glad to say confidently that he did as Loelle wanted.
After an early leave from work, Reus’s mood quickly improved, and as usual, he thought everything would fall into place once he saw Loelle’s face, so he hurried to the room.
Filled with hope, he opened the door, but Loelle’s rabbit-like expression was nowhere to be found. What greeted him was an empty room, similar to scenes from the nightmares he often had lately.
Dwyn, who followed behind, cautiously spoke.
“Your Highness, the Princess went out for a while.”
“With Theron?”
“Yes… I heard she went to Graham Hall nearby. She said she would return around dinner time, so she should be back soon.”
The conversation ended there. Dwyn wisely closed the door and left.
It bothered Reus that she went out with Theron, but he didn’t blame Loelle at all.
If anything went wrong between them, it would always be his fault.
Today’s disappointment was caused by his own arrogance, thinking she would be waiting only for him. It was his fault for being a husband who let his wife’s attention wander.
Yes, before Loelle thought about moving away from him, it was his fault for not giving her what she wanted.
Going on a trip with Loelle and thinking about other things, making Theron her guard because of that — all his fault.
When he returned to the hotel, he was a bit surprised to see Dwyn standing at the door.
‘Didn’t she say she would be back tomorrow morning?’
As expected, Dwyn looked like she wondered why they returned so late.
“Your Highness…!”
Thanks to Dwyn silently mouthing the words, he quietly stepped forward. But before he took a few steps, the room door opened. Even though he did nothing wrong, his body trembled.
He was so glad Theron hadn’t accompanied her to the door. Dwyn quickly left, and he hurried inside.
The sound of the door closing behind him sent a chill down his spine. It was probably because Reus looked even more unpleasant than in the morning.
“You’re back early…”
“I guess you’re disappointed I came back so soon.”
“Huh? No… not at all.”
“If not, you wouldn’t be this excited without me.”
Did it show? Feeling a little embarrassed, he tried to lower his head slightly, but Reus immediately lifted his face.
Despite the angry voice, the soft touch made him wonder if he was really that angry. But when their eyes met, he apologized without knowing why.
“I’m sorry…”
“It’s not your fault.”
Then why did he look so twisted inside? He wanted to ask but held back. First, he needed to escape being trapped between the door and Reus. As he slowly moved, Reus’s dark eyes seemed to follow him relentlessly, as if blocking his every step.
Just when he thought he had completely escaped and turned to leave, Reus followed him. For some reason, he stepped back instinctively.
Reus closed the distance again.
Eventually, he fell sitting on the edge of the bed. Even though there was no more space to back away, Reus took one step closer and naturally leaned his upper body, wrapping him in his arms again.
“I heard you went to watch the ballet quietly with another man, Loelle.”
“What? Another man? Absolutely not…!”
“That means you were looking elsewhere. This is clearly a contract violation—”
Surprised, he quickly put his hands over Reus’s mouth.
“No! That’s not true, Reus!”
Reus lifted him up and moved him to the middle of the bed, then sat beside him. Naturally, his hands dropped.
“The more you deny it strongly, the more suspicious it sounds.”
“Another man? Really not! I was with Theron—”
“With Theron?”
“Yes, together…”
That was the problem… Theron was assigned as his guard, so why? Feeling a little unfair, he hesitated to speak. Reus, who was staring at his face, said:
“It seems you want me to say Theron is not another man.”
“No, well…”
He couldn’t say it out loud, but Theron was his guard. It was because of him that he was angry, but he couldn’t apologize or explain. What could he do?
But no matter how he thought about it, Theron did nothing wrong.
Shouldn’t Theron be treated as a friend?
Then Reus spoke.
“What if other people see you and misunderstand?”
“He’s my guard, so that won’t happen—”
“I know you spend time comfortably alone with him, Loelle.”
“Ah…”
“I’m glad you had a good time.”
Reus squeezed the hand resting beside his leg, making his body tilt slightly. Then his large hand supporting his shoulder tightened.
It didn’t hurt, but today the touch felt clearer than usual.
“Of all people, with Theron.”
Their eyes met, and his twisted look was fixed on him.
