- Chapter 44 - Do you want my pheromones?
Long Ling (Dragon Bell) lay in Violet’s office chair for a while, then flew to the window. Using her two paws to pry open the edge of the window, she pushed open the side window.
Warm sunlight spilled over the entire office. A soft spring breeze blew in, and the distant cries of flocks of seagulls could be heard. She could also see people on the shore feeding the seabirds.
Fishing boats of all sizes, workers constantly moving cargo, countless baskets of seafood—it was lively and prosperous. Everything felt vibrant and full of life.
Since arriving here, Long Ling had been constantly busy. If the wicked dragon lady hadn’t demanded she accompany her to work, she would never have had a chance to seriously observe this strange yet colorful world.
The place the wicked dragon lady chose to recuperate was indeed very suitable for permanent settlement.
There was a black leather sofa beneath the floor-to-ceiling window. Long Ling could conveniently lie there to sunbathe. Beside it was a rattan tea table.
The magic the wicked dragon lady had just taught her was a beginner-level control skill. It involved capturing invisible particles in the air and manipulating them to change shape, achieving a magical effect.
Long Ling saw a water cup on the desk. She silently chanted a spell, preparing to move the cup to the tea table for a test.
She concentrated her mind and attempted the spell, but the cup remained completely still. The magic spell seemed to fail on her.
Just as Long Ling was feeling a little disappointed, she suddenly noticed that all the water inside the cup had been moved out, leaving the cup empty.
Long Ling’s eyes widened. This seemed illogical. She wanted to move an object. Was moving the water considered a success?
The wicked dragon lady could condense water into a sphere, and Long Ling could even lie on it and drink deeply.
Long Ling tried again. Separated from the cup, the ball of water could indeed be moved over.
Without a cup to hold it, and only able to move the water, Long Ling had no choice but to open her mouth and drink all of it.
After drinking the water, she flipped through the beginner magic book Violet had provided her, searching for the reason for this odd result.
Unfortunately, since this was beginner magic, the book only provided the correct way to use it and had no information on error cases.
Long Ling held the magic book up to the sunlight. The silvery-gray text flowed with a mysterious brilliance. She checked the index for how to change from a small dragon back to a human form, and she actually found it.
On the last page of this volume, a string of text described how to revert from a juvenile dragon form back to a human form.
If an unfortunate little dragon is pranked by a companion and cannot change back into human form, they can seek a family elder to dispel the magic, or wait twenty-four hours for the caster’s magic to lose its efficacy.
If you wish to attempt to dispel it yourself, as long as your own magic value exceeds that of the caster, you can use a spell to resolve it. Detailed instructions can be found in the next volume.
Long Ling was speechless for a moment. She closed the book. Even if she got the next volume, she couldn’t dispel it. It seemed she should try not to anger the wicked dragon lady in the future.
She rolled around aimlessly on the sofa. Suddenly, she heard a sound from outside the door. Long Ling immediately sat up from the sofa and obediently flew back to the desk to sit.
The door opened from the outside. Long Ling smelled the sweet aroma of baked apples.
She turned to look. Violet was seated in a wheelchair, followed by a tall woman wearing the same black military uniform as Violet, but with slightly different golden insignia on her shoulder—she must be Violet’s subordinate.
The subordinate was a female Alpha. She held a brown paper bag in her hand, which was bulging, making it impossible to see what was inside.
Violet gave her subordinate a look. The female Alpha subordinate respectfully handed the paper bag to Violet and left the office.
Long Ling couldn’t help but slightly furrow her brow. Does the wicked dragon lady have many Alphas around her? She wouldn’t suddenly fall out of favor, would she?
Violet was very pleased to see the silvery-white little dragon obediently waiting for her on the desk. She beckoned to Long Ling: “Come here. I bought you something to eat.”
Before the meeting, she had overheard her younger subordinates discussing in the conference room that a nearby shop made delicious caramel apple pie. The little dragon had cooked many meals for her recently, and she didn’t mind occasionally feeding her domestic little dragon.
As long as Long Ling was obedient, she was willing to give her more affection.
When Long Ling heard there was food, a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes. She fluttered her dragon wings and flew over, landing on Violet’s lap.
She was still too young and couldn’t contain her impatience, prompting her to ask Violet: “Violet, was that female Alpha just now your subordinate?”
Long Ling didn’t even realize that her tone was sour.
Violet had been pursued by countless Alphas since childhood, so she was no stranger to Long Ling’s tone and easily noticed that the little dragon was jealous.
It was just a subordinate. The little dragon had quite a strong competitive instinct.
Violet carelessly took an apple pie out of the paper bag and said faintly, “Just my subordinate.”
An ordinary subordinate? In the past, it had always been Elena accompanying Violet. This was the first time she had seen another Alpha appear to help the wicked dragon lady with things.
But the wicked dragon lady only had the person buy her food. The wicked dragon lady’s heart should only belong to her.
Long Ling obediently opened her mouth, and the fragrant and crisp apple pie was placed inside. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. One bite reached the sweet filling, and the apples inside tasted pleasantly sweet and sour.
Since Long Ling was small, she could only eat the apple pie in small bites, but this unique dessert was very enjoyable.
Violet used to not understand why couples enjoyed feeding each other. When the little dragon fed her, it held a certain charm. Sometimes, the way the little dragon pouted angrily at her but still had to obey her was quite adorable.
A few crumbs of the apple pie crust fell. Just as she was taking a clean white handkerchief from her top pocket, Long Ling already produced a handkerchief and wiped the crumbs off herself.
Violet saw that the handkerchief the little dragon was using was the very one she had given her that day. She slightly raised an eyebrow: “Why do you still keep this handkerchief?”
Long Ling was a little embarrassed: “This handkerchief has your scent on it, so I kept it. When you’re not around, I can rely on it to think of you.”
A smile flickered in Violet’s eyes. She took the handkerchief from Long Ling’s paw and tied it around Long Ling’s back neck.
The silvery-white scales on Long Ling’s back neck were smooth, reflecting a shimmering light in the sun. Her slender fingers tied the silk-soft handkerchief into a beautiful bow, making it very cute hanging around her neck.
This way, Long Ling looked like a little gift, easily packageable.
Violet watched Long Ling eat the apple pie, gently wiping away a bit of filling that was stuck near her mouth: “What were you doing in the office just now?”
Long Ling’s cheeks were slightly warm: “Studying magic.”
After finishing the apple pie Violet fed her, she fluttered her dragon wings, flew over, and showed the empty water cup to Violet: “Just now, I used magic to move all the water out of this cup, but I don’t know why I could move the water inside but not the cup itself.”
Violet picked up her staff: “Try again now. Use magic to move the staff in my hand.”
Long Ling tried hard, but still couldn’t. She shook her head towards Violet.
Violet opened the water kettle and had her try to remove the water inside. Long Ling’s magic succeeded again.
Long Ling had only been studying for a while, yet she could control a flowing substance. This belonged to intermediate-to-advanced magic, as the state of water is inherently uncontrollable. However, for ordinary objects, Long Ling’s magic seemed to fail.
Violet had seen many dragons during her time studying at the Magic University who couldn’t control flowing water with magic right from the start like Long Ling could. However, for ordinary objects, most magically-capable dragons could perform simple control; it was almost like an instinct.
Did the Arnold family not teach the little dragon magic because they had long discovered she was different from other dragons? Was this related to Long Ling’s runaway Omega mother?
Long Ling looked at Violet’s slightly furrowed brows and couldn’t help but ask, “Is there something wrong with me?”
Violet slightly shook her head: “It won’t affect daily life. Most mages don’t rely solely on magic; sometimes close combat is more common in battles. If you want to learn later, you can also try studying magic arrays.”
Long Ling felt relieved: “I’ll learn slowly.”
Violet decided to find someone to investigate further later. She gave the paper bag to Long Ling and instructed her: “You can slowly eat the rest of the apple pie. I have some official business to attend to.”
Long Ling softly agreed: “Okay.”
Long Ling hugged the full bag of hot caramel apple pie. Thinking that Violet had specially bought it for her, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of happiness.
Finally able to revert to human form, Long Ling stretched. She was about to sit on the sofa, but upon noticing Violet watching her, she proactively moved a chair and sat next to Violet.
She read the magic book and slowly nibbled on the apple pie in the corner next to Violet.
Long Ling was afraid the sound of her eating would disturb Violet’s work, so she took small bites. Occasionally, when she ate happily, her dragon tail behind her would wag gently a few times.
In Violet’s eyes, this was quite cute.
Long Ling noticed the wicked dragon lady had looked at her several times. She put down the apple pie she was eating, wiped her mouth and hands clean.
She gently asked, “Are you tired from work? Should I help you massage your shoulders or rub your legs?”
Violet leaned her neck back, her cold, beautiful eyes signaling Long Ling to come over.
Long Ling quickly walked behind Violet and started kneading her shoulders.
Violet rested her head against Long Ling, closed her eyes, and inhaled the faint strawberry scent on the little dragon.
Indeed, she should have brought the little dragon to her side earlier. This was so much more comfortable, and the little dragon wouldn’t run around.
The little dragon’s massages have been somewhat effective lately. Her legs haven’t hurt as much as before, and even yesterday, when she didn’t get a massage, she didn’t feel that piercing pain inside.
Sometimes, when the little dragon wrapped her tail around her, she would also feel a slight sensation, unlike before when her legs felt like two unresponsive wooden posts.
Long Ling’s hands were very soft. Her warm fingertips glided across the skin, possessing an indescribable magic that always made her feel very relaxed.
Violet enjoyed the little dragon’s service, and Long Ling massaged very seriously. A sweet warmth permeated the quiet atmosphere.
Gradually, Violet’s fingers gently stroked Long Ling’s back of the head. Her slender fingertips ran through the silvery-white hair. Her slightly calloused fingertips slowly rubbed Long Ling’s back neck, sending a fine tingle of itchiness through her. Long Ling’s body flushed hot from Violet’s touch.
This suggestive action always reminded her of when Violet was in the afterglow of arousal, the corners of her cold, beautiful eyes glistening with tears, yet she enjoyed touching Long Ling’s back neck like this.
Long Ling looked up at her. Violet’s dark red lips were full and sexy. Her voice was low and gentle: “Do you want my pheromones?”
