- Chapter 26 - A Woman's Lips Are Truly Stubborn
Violet’s eyes were sharp as a knife, the silver fork in her hand bent into a right angle as she coldly said to Lorrain, “Do you think so?”
It was like the onset of deep winter; not only was Lorrain frozen, but even Longling was affected, her dragon scales seeming about to form a layer of frost.
The Dragon Lady’s aura was fully unleashed, capable of piercing every dragon present with a freezing blade.
But they were all relatives, and a guest was a guest, so she couldn’t go too far.
Longling smoothed things over, tactfully saying, “Crown Prince Lorrain, the radish is raw, it doesn’t taste good.”
Violet’s amber-gold eyes narrowed into a slit, and she gave Longling a cold sidelong glance.
That look was undoubtedly warning Longling that she would suffer the same fate if she dared to interfere.
She was just an innocent dragon passing by, please spare her, Duke!
Longling puffed out her cheeks and let out a soft sigh.
Lorrain also realized the atmosphere was tense and tried to save face, saying, “Ha, if the radish dragon can’t be eaten, then the strawberry dragon underneath should be edible, right?”
How could a dragon manage to precisely step on Violet’s landmine twice? Could it be that these two dragons truly deserved to be relatives!
The silver fork in Violet’s hand immediately crumbled into silver powder, her deep-set brows were utterly cold, and her delicate jawline was taut.
“Elena, Crown Prince Lorrain has finished lunch. Escort her out of Illidari Estate now.”
Elena, Violet’s most loyal maid, immediately curtsied upon hearing Violet’s command. “Yes.”
Even though the other party was a Crown Prince, Elena made a standard ‘please leave’ gesture.
If Crown Prince Lorrain refused to take the hint, she would have no choice but to deploy the estate guards and have her forcibly dragged out.
A flash of surprise crossed Lorrain’s eyes, realizing Violet was not joking. She smiled softly and said, “Alright, Vi. I’m sorry, don’t rush me off. We haven’t seen each other in years, and I wanted to catch up. I was just a little too hungry earlier.”
Seeing Violet remain aloof and unmoved, Lorrain had to bring up official business: “The incident last time where alchemists used poisonous flame beast eggs to refine hallucinogens caused public panic. Also, quite a few politicians have been spouting nonsense, emphasizing that the kingdom has too many Omegas in charge, and that power should be returned to the Alphas for the kingdom to prosper. His Majesty was furious about this. Your fiefdom should be cooperating with His Majesty’s decree, yet you still have Grace Harbor open.”
Violet said indifferently, “They are just a few rats unable to see the light in the gutters. My subordinate officers already have leads and are in the process of a roundup, and they will be apprehended soon. However, Grace Harbor cannot be closed for the time being; my commoners in the fief depend on it for their livelihood.”
Violet sneered, “As for those individuals, they are merely using this as a pretext, wanting you to yield the position of Crown Prince to your Alpha sister, Beverly.”
Lorrain shook her head slightly, coldness also flickering in her eyes: “Beverly is still young; even if she takes the position of Crown Prince, it won’t bring them tangible benefits. It’s just an excuse for Alphas to seize control. What right do a bunch of dragons who can’t even control their periods of susceptibility have to rob Omegas of their power? So, I wanted to borrow a guard unit from you to take advantage of this opportunity and also purge some dragons with rebellious intentions, forcing them all to shut up completely.”
Longling, being an Alpha sitting beside the two of them, suddenly felt awkward.
She had thought the Dragon Lady’s cousin was merely visiting, but she turned out to be here to eat, take, and ask Violet to borrow a guard unit. She wondered if Violet would lend it to her?
Violet indeed gave Lorrain a cold glance: “That is not a reason to covet my possessions.”
The topic had circled back, and Lorrain, not having obtained what she truly wanted, stubbornly refused to leave: “Oh well, it’s just a pretty white radish. You’re sick now, why are you still so quick-tempered as before? I won’t ask for it anymore, alright? Where is your chef? Have him come over and prepare a separate meal for me.”
Mentioning the chef, Longling’s eyes lit up. That’s me, I made this meal!
Usually, this was the segment where the imperial chef was rewarded. Longling felt like she was wearing a big red rosette on her chest, ready to step onto the stage to receive praise at any moment.
Violet, however, glared at Longling, then turned to Elena and said, “Have the estate chef prepare a lunch and bring it up for Her Royal Highness the Crown Prince.”
Longling settled down, resting her chin on her hand, almost forgetting that the Dragon Lady had instructed her to only cook for her.
If she does this, will Crown Prince Lorrain get angry?
Lorrain, expecting to receive the same lunch, was full of anticipation and elegantly wiped her lips.
When the estate’s regular chef brought up completely different dishes, Lorrain was visibly deflated.
Were these dishes made by the same chef? They were greasy, the vegetables were sloppily cut, and the meat slices were huge and looked burnt. Is she trying to disgust me to death?
I am the Crown Prince! Was the chef asleep, or did he deliberately disrespect me, the Crown Prince!
A hint of displeasure flashed in Lorrain’s eyes. She picked up the fork, patiently took a bite, and her expression nearly twisted.
After tasting true delicacies, who could tolerate rough and unappetizing food anymore!
Lorrain put down her fork, leaned closer to Violet, and said sourly, “Vi, there’s something wrong with the food your chef made. I wanted the same as the one before. This dish tastes completely different.”
Violet’s exquisite face was cold: “No, my estate only has one chef.”
Longling touched her fingertips together and blinked her thick eyelashes. If the Dragon Lady says no, then there must be none.
Lorrain was speechless. She just wanted the same delicious dish as before. It was only a chef; why was Violet protecting him so fiercely, unwilling even to have the chef come out and make another meal?
Her eyes scanned the remaining scraps of food from earlier, then settled on the lifelike, intricately carved radish dragon, and quickly swept across the luxurious crystal kitchen.
Smoke was still coming out of the chimney in the magnificent crystal kitchen, and the lid of the stew pot was open. Maybe there was still some soup inside.
The chef Violet was hiding must have cooked in the crystal kitchen, not the same kitchen used by the chef who just delivered her meal.
The corner of Lorrain’s lips curled into a smug smile. She beckoned to the attendant behind her, “Bring some bread. I saw some soup left in that kitchen just now; bring all the soup over.”
Longling couldn’t help but say, “The soup has been sitting for a long time; should we heat it up?”
Lorrain gently replied, “It’s alright, I can drink it cold too. Thank you, Longling.”
Violet’s expression towards Longling instantly turned cold. Does this Alpha dragon have to be so caring towards every Omega?
If she has so much care to give, she might as well consider if she’ll be allowed to sleep in a bed tonight!
[Annoying Alpha, is she this attentive to every Omega! I’ll make her sleep in her favorite kitchen tonight!]
Longling’s forehead suddenly broke out in cold sweat as she heard the Dragon Lady’s thought.
She had only asked out of courtesy; she wasn’t that concerned!
What should I do? How should I coax the Dragon Lady?
Longling felt embarrassed to be intimate with Violet in front of others and anxiously clenched her fingers.
The attendant quickly heated the remaining soup and brought it over. There was only less than half a pot left, and Lorrain had it all poured into a bowl. She picked up the golden spoon, took a sip, and a look of intoxication appeared on her face: “It tastes so good! I can’t bear to finish it all at once.”
“This place is too far from the Royal City, otherwise I would take some back for His Majesty to try. For now, I’ll just enjoy it all myself.”
Lorrain happily sipped the warm lamb soup, holding a whole-wheat bread in one hand, and evenly spread the remaining rich and mellow meat sauce onto the bread before taking a bite.
It was so fragrant, so delicious she felt she could swallow her tongue. She couldn’t waste the soup either. Lorrain paired the bread with the meat soup, being elegant yet quick, achieving the true meaning of an empty plate.
Longling rubbed her forehead. Why does Crown Prince Lorrain, beneath her noble exterior, possess such a love for food? She’s enjoying the leftovers so much. Lorrain’s image of elegance and gentleness is about to collapse.
Violet hugged her arms, watched Lorrain for a moment, and then moved her wheelchair away: “I’m going to the study.”
Longling quickly said, “I’ll go with you.”
Lorrain, immersed in her delicious meal, waved her hand at the two of them.
Longling quietly followed behind Violet. When they reached the corner of the garden corridor, Violet stopped her wheelchair, and Elena, who was following beside her, silently moved further away.
Violet looked sideways at Longling: “Why are you following me?”
Longling quickly took small steps to Violet’s side and gently called her, “Vi, I wasn’t concerned about Crown Prince Lorrain just now; I just casually reminded her because hot soup tastes better.”
Violet gave Longling a cold glance, her tone emotionless: “You don’t need to explain to me.”
That’s not what your heart is saying at all! You totally care! You were even going to throw me into the kitchen!
The little person inside Longling’s mind was about to explode. Why is Violet so contradictory!
If she couldn’t hear her thoughts, she really wouldn’t have a clue!
Wuwuwu, a woman’s lips are truly stubborn!
Longling could only pledge her loyalty again: “I will always only cook for you, I won’t cook for anyone else, truly! Don’t be angry anymore. I can make more than just those things; I know how to make other dishes too, and they’re all delicious. Please don’t be angry~”
The Alpha’s tone was soft and gentle, and where others couldn’t see, the entire dragon was practically melting and clinging to Violet.
Her silver-white dragon tail behind her wagged uncontrollably due to her anxiety.
Violet saw the moisture in Longling’s eyes and her look of both distress and urgency, and a ripple couldn’t help but form in the lake of her heart.
She wasn’t that angry to begin with, and even felt the anger was somewhat inexplicable. She owned many things; the radish carved into a dragon wasn’t expensive, and it wasn’t even as dazzling as a gemstone she casually tossed into her vault.
Yet, an inexplicable fire had ignited in her heart, and it was further inflamed by Longling’s seemingly ordinary, casual expression of concern.
Her emotional self-control had always been good, but today she was indeed a little out of control.
Violet glanced at Longling’s fair face, raised her hand, but then pulled it back: “You don’t need to accompany me this afternoon. Go tend to your tavern. The Crown Prince and I have matters to discuss.”
