- Chapter 24 - I Want a Little Strawberry Dragon
“A hundred mu of land?”
When Ferey heard Miss Long Ling say this, she nearly dropped her jaw, quickly pulling out a handkerchief to wipe the cold sweat from her forehead.
Goodness, a hundred mu of vegetable fields! Tending to the watering and fertilizing every day, wouldn’t old Ferey’s back break?
Long Ling saw the troubled look on Ferey’s face. She wasn’t a bossy tyrant; this was just her preliminary idea.
If the produce couldn’t be sold, they could also share the vegetables with everyone. Miss Evil Dragon’s manor seemed to have many servants.
Long Ling had worked as the imperial chef in the palace and dealt with the stewards of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The massive monthly procurement of vegetables, rice, chicken, ducks, and meat required significant expenditure.
Long Ling asked gently, “How many people do you currently have on the farm? If planting is too difficult or the request is unreasonable, please tell me, and I can plant a little less.”
Ferey finally let out a sigh of relief and spoke quickly like pouring beans: “Including myself, there are fifty people on the farm right now. Berly is pregnant, so she won’t be returning to work for a while. The manpower is indeed a bit tight. If we cultivate so many vegetable fields at once, we won’t have enough fertilizer, and the daily watering alone would deplete the pond water in the manor.”
Noticing that Long Ling was a good-natured dragon, she took a gamble and tentatively suggested, “Miss Long Ling, I think we can probably handle about twenty mu of land and take good care of the crops.”
Long Ling nodded, “Then let’s start with twenty mu. Plant one of every kind of seed available on the market this spring.”
Ferey was immediately overjoyed, feeling like she had ascended from hell to heaven.
Fortunately, Miss Long Ling wasn’t an unreasonable noble lady; otherwise, life would be unbearable.
With the proper task of cultivating and planting, she wouldn’t have to do the trivial chores for those people in the ranch anymore. Twenty mu of vegetable field was easy work for them. Once the planting was done, they would have plenty of time left to rest.
Violet, sitting in her wheelchair, swept a sharp gaze over Ferey.
Ferey’s body involuntarily trembled, her cheeks turning pale with fright, and her two hands nervously tucked into her apron pockets.
Violet glanced back at Long Ling. To change her mind because of two sentences from a servant—how would she establish authority later?
She had intended to let Long Ling try her hand, but now it seemed like she needed to ask Butler Marcia to teach her more.
Long Ling had her back to Violet and couldn’t see her expression, feeling that she had successfully managed the farm matters.
These people should carry out the task properly. She just needed to check in occasionally. Soon, she should be able to experience the joy of a good harvest.
Long Ling waved her hand, dismissing Ferey.
Those plump sheep she had eyed earlier were still lingering near her, slowly eating grass. It seemed they all wanted to be eaten by her.
Long Ling’s mind started working. She circled Violet’s side and called her name in a drawn-out tone: “Vier~”
A wave of hot air blew against Violet’s ear. The little milk dragon was getting bolder, sticking so close and calling her name with such a lingering, ambiguous sound.
Violet fixed her cold, arrogant eyes on Long Ling. What kind of sweet talk was the little milk dragon going to say this time?
Long Ling, however, pointed at the large sheep not far from them: “Can we eat those sheep?”
The curve that was about to form on Violet’s lips instantly vanished. She said flatly, “Yes, you may.”
Miss Evil Dragon’s tone suddenly sounded frosty, as if covered in a layer of ice.
Why couldn’t that occasionally accurate inner voice give her a hint at a crucial moment?
Long Ling could only follow her own inner feelings: “I’ll make you something delicious! I learned many ways to prepare lamb before, and it’s super tasty. Plus, I have my own little kitchen now.”
This little Alpha dragon didn’t love magic; what she truly loved was the kitchen. Was it because she loved to eat?
Violet raised an eyebrow: “Go pick a few yourself.”
Miss Evil Dragon is so generous! Several sheep right off the bat!
Long Ling only needed one to eat. Her eyes shining brightly, she happily ran over to pick a sheep herself.
The wool on these sheep was white, looking like balls of cotton on the green grass. Long Ling decided to pick a large white sheep whose hind legs looked robust and strong.
The meat from the hind leg had great texture, and the sheep tendons were chewy and springy. In the past, when she got her salary, she would buy a piece of lamb hubing (sesame flatbread) from the street. The hubing was brushed with sesame oil and topped with a thick layer of medium-rare lamb, using the hind leg meat. Sometimes, when eating with colleagues, they would buy an extra portion of stewed sheep trotters together.
Chefs are always picky, and Long Ling’s eye for ingredients was also accurate, allowing her to spot the best one immediately.
The fattest sheep in the flock, seeing a dragon with ill intent approaching, immediately tried to bolt. But Long Ling was quick, immediately grabbing it from behind and hugging it.
The big fat sheep kicked its legs a few times but couldn’t shake Long Ling off. Instead, it was pinned to the ground, only able to bleat loudly.
Long Ling chuckled. Fortunately, she was a dragon now, with plenty of strength and cunning. Her dragon scales acted like the strongest soft armor, so she wasn’t afraid of being kicked by the sheep, making everything easy.
The petticoat under her skirt was squashed a bit but quickly bounced back. Long Ling restrained the big fat sheep with one hand and took a moment with the other to tidy her skirt. Her hair was a little messy too, which would interfere with her trying to look cool in front of Miss Evil Dragon.
Long Ling tucked her silver-white hair behind her ear. She was about to lead the big fat sheep over for Violet to see, but she looked down and realized the sheep wasn’t leashed.
This was no problem for her. Long Ling scooped the sheep up with both hands, lifting it into her arms.
The fluffy, large fat sheep was indeed plump, heavy and a bit of a burden. When it was made into skewers, she probably wouldn’t need to add extra sheep fat.
Long Ling happily carried the big fat sheep and walked toward Violet: “I want this one!”
Violet’s eyes looked over. Long Ling was carrying a super large, fat sheep, like holding a massive ball of fluffy, soft cotton candy. The big fat sheep’s four hooves struggled non-stop. Long Ling’s clear, crystal-like dragon horns popped out due to her joyful mood, and her plump little dragon tail wagged several times behind her.
The little Alpha dragon easily revealed a part of her true form when she was shy or happy, and her appearance was quite dazzling.
But how exactly did the Arnold family raise their dragon hatchlings? Did they send Long Ling to the ranch to herd sheep?
A trace of a smile hid in Violet’s eyes: “You can pick a few more.”
Long Ling chuckled, “One is enough. We can eat the rest slowly.”
The plump dragon tail behind her wagged several more times, looking a bit like it was begging for a stomp.
Violet withdrew her gaze: “It’s your decision. The sheep can be handed over to the servants for processing. Don’t get blood or mutton smell all over yourself, I dislike it.”
Long Ling knew Miss Evil Dragon was a bit of a clean freak. Hearing this, she immediately put down the big fat sheep in her arms.
The soft wool was white; it shouldn’t be that dirty, right? She had been too excited and almost forgot about that.
Long Ling put the sheep on the ground, and the servants following Violet took the sheep away for slaughter.
Long Ling patted the dust off her skirt and quietly sniffed herself. She didn’t smell anything strange. Miss Evil Dragon shouldn’t despise her.
She asked Violet, “Duke, for the lamb, do you prefer stir-fried, pan-fried, steamed, or braised? I know all those methods.”
As the most powerful noble, Violet had eaten countless delicacies since childhood. Lamb was commonplace and not something she looked forward to.
However, seeing the little dragon’s eager expression, she wouldn’t immediately pour cold water on her. Just taking a simple bite would be giving the little dragon some face.
Violet slightly raised her eyebrow: “Anything is fine. Just make something casually.”
Long Ling already had a menu in mind and immediately nodded: “I’ll go prepare the ingredients right now and let you taste my cooking at noon.”
Violet’s dark golden eyes narrowed: “It’s not noon yet. Why are you in such a hurry?”
Long Ling explained: “But the ingredients can’t be used immediately after slaughter. I also need to prepare some seasonings.”
When other Alphas and Omegas are together, they would prepare a romantic date with flowers, wine, and a candlelit dinner. Why was this little Alpha dragon in front of her only thinking about cooking?
She was resting for two days and only wanted the little dragon to revolve around her. She didn’t want the little dragon spending most of her time doing her own thing. Cooking to please her wasn’t enough either.
Violet’s slender finger tapped the ruby on her hand. Her wheelchair turned, moving in front of Long Ling: “Before coming here, didn’t your clan leader tell you what you should be doing most?”
Long Ling’s cheeks suddenly flushed. But if they were going to roll around in bed, they had to wait until night, right?
If they did that kind of thing in the middle of the day with Miss Evil Dragon, how would she face people later if the word got out?
Miss Evil Dragon’s needs were a bit much. Fortunately, she had bought medicine; otherwise, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to keep up one day.
But Miss Evil Dragon wouldn’t give her a deep mark. If it was only a shallow one, no matter how hard she tried alone, she wouldn’t be able to get Miss Evil Dragon pregnant.
Long Ling bit her lip, lowering her voice: “Is nighttime okay?”
Violet ignored her.
Long Ling crouched in front of Violet and softly called her name: “Vier~”
Violet looked down at her, cold and ruthless: “Your time and everything should belong to me. Since I haven’t let you go yet, you must not go.”
Long Ling took Violet’s cool hand and placed it in her warm palm: “But Duke, I promise I’ll make it super delicious, and you’ll definitely be very satisfied! If I don’t start early, I won’t be able to finish by lunchtime.”
She hadn’t cooked in a long time. If she didn’t cook now, she would forget she was a chef.
No one could stop her from cooking today. Even if Miss Evil Dragon was tyrannical, she absolutely had to cook this meal in her newly built crystal kitchen!
Long Ling blinked, and tiny drops of water appeared in her eyes. She pleaded pitifully, “I always belong to you. You can watch me while I cook, and I can even carve flowers! Or how about I carve you a radish dragon to keep you company?”
She blinked twice again: “Please, let me cook.”
Violet realized Long Ling was feeling wronged again. She really didn’t know what to do with her. How could there be such a fragile and easily upset Alpha in the world?
She had plenty of strength when Violet tormented her last night, but now she looked pitiful and wronged, making one think Violet had done something awful to her.
Violet hadn’t been very interested in lamb, but hearing the little milk dragon offer to carve her a radish dragon piqued her interest slightly.
She slightly raised her chin: “What kind of radish dragon?”
Long Ling quickly said, “Whatever you like, I’ll make it that way.”
Violet’s deep eyes stared at her.
Long Ling’s heart skipped a beat, and her eyes were a little flustered: “A little silver dragon like me? You wouldn’t try to eat it in one bite while I’m busy, would you?”
Violet noticed Long Ling’s thoroughly reddened earlobes and deliberately asked, “What if I do eat it?”
What could she do? A dragon under the eaves has to bow its head.
Kicking her would be like kicking cotton.
Long Ling said softly, “If you eat it, I’ll carve you a new one. My carving skills are quite good, fast and excellent. Don’t worry, just eat.”
Violet slightly raised her chin: “I want a little strawberry dragon.”
A little strawberry dragon?
When did Miss Evil Dragon have another dragon? What species of dragon is a little strawberry dragon?
Long Ling was momentarily bewildered, blinking several times in panic.
