- Chapter 16 - Squirrel Beastfolk and the Crystal Kitchen
Long Ling didn’t remember how she fell asleep last night. When she woke up, Violet was no longer in the bed.
She was curled up in a small ball at the foot of the bed, covered only by a thick blanket, which still had traces of Violet’s rose pheromone.
Yesterday, she seemed to have said she would warm the wicked dragoness’s bed, but she was too sleepy and accidentally fell asleep.
In a daze, she recalled that Violet seemed to have glanced at her when she woke up in the morning.
“I have to deal with official business. You can sleep more if you’re tired.”
She boldly reached out and hugged Violet’s waist. Her silver-white dragon tail pressed against Violet’s smooth thigh and rubbed affectionately a few times.
Violet stroked her long silver-white hair: “Why are you so clingy? Why don’t I shrink you down and take you with me?”
If she were shrunk down into a tiny little baby dragon, the wicked dragoness would bully her, holding down her little dragon claws to prevent her from moving, and would even poke her little belly with her hand.
If she were to be taken along, she might be put into a bag, where it would be dark, just like being locked in a small black room.
The wicked dragoness would only let her out of the small black room when she remembered her.
Long Ling rubbed her eyes, sleepily shaking her head: “I won’t go, I don’t want to turn into a baby dragon, you’ll bully me.”
Violet instructed: “If you’re not going, be good in the manor.”
Long Ling lifted her face, pressing her slightly pink cheeks against Violet’s cold palm to warm it up. Her soft, sweet voice was hoarse: “Okay, please come home early! I’ll miss you very much!”
The baby dragon’s cheeks were warm from sleep. Her delicate skin felt warm in her palm, like a small, burning sun.
Violet looked at the baby dragon once more before leaving the luxurious bed.
Long Ling only remembered this much. She was truly very sleepy, and after knowing she didn’t have to transform into a baby dragon and be taken away, she nestled back into her small blanket with peace of mind.
This counts as successfully reporting in to the wicked dragoness, right?
When she woke up, Long Ling realized that the blanket covering her was the one the wicked dragoness often draped over her legs.
The soft, fragrant blanket was imbued with the Omega’s rose pheromone, causing Long Ling to uncontrollably transform into her dragon form, burying herself deep in the blanket and rubbing herself vigorously.
After the shallow mark, she couldn’t help but love this scent.
If only she could get the wicked dragoness’s pheromone every day! The pheromones on this blanket were too little. Long Ling rolled around for a while, covering herself completely with the rose-scented pheromones.
She should have been more intimate with the wicked dragoness yesterday. If she didn’t work hard and diligently during this one year, what if the wicked dragoness drove her away?
She couldn’t be so sleepy tonight. She needed to buy some refreshing and stimulating potion to drink, otherwise, the wicked dragoness would definitely be dissatisfied with her over time.
She also needed to go to the general store to buy a lock and lock the tavern door first, to prevent outsiders from intruding.
Long Ling had many things on her mind. During breakfast, she indeed didn’t see the wicked dragoness, who seemed to have already left.
Butler Marcia kindly said, “Miss Long Ling, Her Highness has gone to deal with official business and won’t be back to accompany you until tomorrow. She ordered a kitchen to be built for you right by the rose garden. Would you like to go take a look after breakfast?”
Long Ling took a bite of bread and nodded slightly: “I’ll go see after I finish eating.”
Long Ling no longer wanted to eat the breakfasts of this world. If she kept eating them, she would turn into a fluffy bread dragon, stuffed with sickly sweet jams of various colors, and whose breath smelled like milk.
She missed the fragrant, thick rice porridge, the golden crispy fried dough sticks, and the thin-skinned, generously filled steamed buns—in short, all the food from her original world.
However, meeting the wicked dragoness here and having different experiences wasn’t entirely a bad thing.
When Long Ling followed Butler Marcia, the workers were organizing materials and preparing for construction. Seeing her approach, they quickly bowed and greeted her.
Now that the wicked dragoness was away, she was the other mistress of the manor. She represented the wicked dragoness’s image and couldn’t embarrass her fiancée.
But why were these workers so short?
The tallest worker only reached her waist from a distance.
Each worker wore a yellow safety helmet, which didn’t look very safe, exposing two pointy, fuzzy gray ears.
They wore matching blue overalls, their fluffy large tails spread out, their bodies were robust, and they weren’t wearing any shoes, their fluffy large feet exposed.
Long Ling couldn’t help but ask Butler Marcia, “These people, being so short, can they handle this heavy work?”
Butler Marcia smiled and said, “Miss Long Ling, they are Squirrel Beastfolk who have pledged allegiance to Her Highness. They are very skilled at building houses. Don’t underestimate them. The repairs of these houses in the manor are their responsibility. When there’s no work at the manor, they also go out to do odd jobs and are quite popular outside.”
Butler Marcia waved to one of the little Squirrel Beastfolk and called out “Renee.” The Squirrel Beastfolk named Renee had bright eyes, and her blue overalls were cleaner than the other Squirrel Beastfolk’s. Wearing rough white gloves, she nimbly leaped over from a distance.
Long Ling estimated the distance to be about ten meters—an incredibly astonishing jumping ability.
Butler Marcia introduced, “This is Miss Long Ling, and this is Renee, the current little leader of the female Squirrel Beastfolk. The great leader, Reilly, is resting at home. Renee is now capable of taking over her mother’s work and leading the Squirrel Beastfolk to work.”
Long Ling looked down at Renee. Renee was very cute, with light brown eyes, a few freckles on her face, and a braid, but her expression was serious. She wore small, round, black-rimmed glasses, and a yellowish-brown pencil was tucked behind her ear.
She looked up, her pointy, fuzzy gray ears tilted back, and assured Long Ling, “Respected Miss Long Ling, although my mother is not here, I will definitely do a good job!”
Long Ling said gently, “I believe you can do it. Keep up the good work.”
Renee paused slightly. Perhaps accustomed to distrustful customers, she didn’t expect the beautiful, angel-like noble lady to have such high expectations for her on their first meeting.
She shyly rubbed her little gray ears, took out the blueprints she had prepared from her blue overalls, stood on her tiptoes, and handed them to Long Ling with both hands.
“Miss Long Ling, these are currently popular architectural styles. You can see if you like any of them. The ones marked with little yellow stars are houses that customers have been very satisfied with.”
Long Ling held the stack of blueprints, which were neatly bound with thread. Various buildings were marked with dimensions and available materials. The female Squirrel Beastfolk named Renee seemed very reliable.
These blueprints were all beautifully drawn, making Long Ling feel as if she could already see what the finished kitchen would look like.
However, there were too many examples, and choosing too many made her a little dizzy.
Long Ling asked Renee, “Do you have any recommendations?”
Renee seriously introduced, “Recently, sunrooms built in gardens have become very popular. Many noble ladies like them. They can be used to host banquets and have tea with friends.”
Long Ling was a little curious: “What is a sunroom?”
Renee stood on her tiptoes and gestured with both hands, “It’s a house where sunlight shines directly in while you’re cooking in the winter. The overall feel will be more transparent and warmer than a traditional kitchen. It’s very beautiful.”
Long Ling pondered, “That sounds good. Can the oil smoke issue be solved?”
Renee adjusted her round glasses, took out the pencil tucked behind her ear, pulled out a small notepad, and quickly sketched, “Of course, I can draw you a chimney solution now. You just need to confirm the location of the chimney.”
Long Ling was much taller than Renee and could see the entire process of Renee drawing, feeling like she was watching a little squirrel wearing a safety helmet diligently working.
Renee was a very experienced Squirrel Beastfolk. She quickly finished the drawing and held it up to Long Ling.
Long Ling examined the blueprint in the sunlight: “The lighting looks very good. The chimney can be placed in the corner. What are these blank squares for?”
Butler Marcia leaned in when she heard this, “Miss Long Ling, these should be for installing windows. Her Highness’s private treasury has many crystals. You can check to see if there are any colors you like. They can all be used as materials for building your kitchen.”
Renee confirmed, “If you use crystals as the main material, your sunroom kitchen will definitely be the most beautiful and extravagant among all the nobles!”
Crystals!!!
Seeing the little dragon’s eyes widen in an adorable way, Butler Marcia smiled, “Her Royal Highness Duke Violet is the third in line to the throne. Besides crystals, she has many other gem collections. You will see them all slowly later.”
Long Ling curiously followed Butler Marcia to the treasure vault. The moment the vault door opened, the sight of various beautiful, super-large crystals almost blinded her!
It was too beautiful, too gorgeous! She had never seen such large, sparkling crystals before!
If so many beautiful crystals were used to decorate her kitchen, how happy a dragon would she be!
Long Ling’s little heart was almost overwhelmed. She pointed at a pile of crystals, her eyes sparkling: “Red, pink, green, blue, purple, transparent… I like so many of them!”
Butler Marcia strongly recommended, “You could build a Seven-Colored Crystal Kitchen. It will definitely be stunning!”
Long Ling’s eyes were completely captivated by the beautiful crystals. She nodded vigorously: “Yes, I want a Seven-Colored Crystal Kitchen!”
Butler Marcia immediately clapped her hands, instructing the servants to move the crystal raw materials and take them away to be cut into suitable shapes.
While delighted, Long Ling suddenly felt a little worried: “If I use so many expensive crystals all at once, will the Duchess get angry?”
Butler Marcia smiled sweetly: “Of course not. These are just common materials in the storeroom. Her Highness said you can use them freely.”
In all her years as a butler, she had never seen Her Highness Violet dote on an Alpha dragon this much.
Long Ling currently felt like she was standing on soft, white clouds and wanted to manifest her dragon wings to fly a couple of rounds.
Her fiancée was simply too wealthy!
Once the crystal kitchen is built, she will make many delicious meals for Violet every day in the sunlit kitchen!
