- Let's Get Married on the First Day of Rebirth
- Chapter 11 - Do You Still Want to Enter the Entertainment Industry?
Is this the level of shamelessness a human can achieve?
Such a thought involuntarily popped into Xu Mi’s mind.
She glanced at her phone, then at Qu Ange, astonished that the other could do something like this. In Xu Mi’s understanding of Qu Ange, this was unimaginable. It was as if she had become a completely different person. Could just half a year in the entertainment industry change someone so drastically?
Too stunned to speak, Xu Mi’s pupils trembled, her gaze unfocused. After reposting, Qu Ange checked her own account. Its name was “Let’s Get Married Tomorrow,” with no other information. It looked like a bot or a throwaway account, but people in 2012 probably wouldn’t think that much about it, right?
Thinking this, she still picked up her phone, snapped a photo of the scenery outside the car window, and posted it with the caption: “Off to get married~”
After sending it, she put her phone away and turned to Xu Mi, finally noticing her complicated expression. Qu Ange quickly smiled, blinking innocently. “What’s wrong?”
Xu Mi hesitated, opening and closing her mouth, but in the end, she said nothing, shaking her head. “It’s nothing.”
Qu Ange had indeed changed a lot, but saying she was a completely different person didn’t seem accurate either. At least, Xu Mi could still sense familiar traces. Those little details proved this person was still Qu Ange, not some ghostly possession or something.
She stayed silent, but Qu Ange clung to her again, now full of energy after her nap. Pressing close, she said, “Let me help you make a Weibo account.”
“No need,” Xu Mi refused.
Qu Ange persisted, “Come on, you can share the dishes you make. Then thousands of people can see how delicious your cooking is.”
“Unnecessary. It’s just home cooking.”
“But it’s better than restaurant food.”
Xu Mi had already pressed herself against the car window, with nowhere left to retreat. Qu Ange clung to her like a boneless creature. Noticing the people in the front and back seats stealing glances at them, Xu Mi felt embarrassed and finally pulled out her phone. “I’ll do it myself.”
She followed the steps to register with her phone number, hesitating when it came to the username. Qu Ange suggested, “Let’s make it a couple name! Mine is ‘Let’s Get Married Tomorrow,’ so how about yours being ‘Let’s Get Married Tomorrow~’?”
Xu Mi stayed silent, deep in thought.
Qu Ange continued, “Or ‘We Got Married’? ‘Marry Tomorrow’? ‘Let’s Get Married Together’?”
Xu Mi’s mind buzzed, her ears ringing with “marry, marry,” unable to think of anything else. In a moment of impulse, she simply typed “Xu Mi,” but when selecting the character for “Mi,” she hesitated and finally chose the homophone meaning “honey.” The name became “Xu Honey.”
Then she confirmed it.
And so, a blank Weibo account with a landscape profile picture and the name “Xu Honey” was born into the digital world.
How strange just changing one character made the name seem so much sweeter and cuter than her own. She stared at it blankly while Qu Ange muttered beside her, “This is practically your real name. Oh well, I guess you won’t post anything weird anyway. Using your real name isn’t a big deal.”
Xu Mi put her phone away. “There, it’s done. Can you be quiet now?”
Qu Ange pouted. “But you didn’t even make it a couple name with me.”
Before she could finish speaking, Qu Ange noticed Xu Mi staring at her with icy eyes, clearly at the edge of her patience. She quickly shut her mouth, straightened up, and leaned back into her seat, silently observing her surroundings with downcast eyes.
Her phone suddenly vibrated. Qu Ange glanced at it and saw that someone had reposted her message.
Qu Ange remained silent until the high-speed train arrived at the station. This wasn’t just because she realized Xu Mi was about to lose her temper, but also because ever since she posted that repost, people had been continuously sharing her message. It seemed everyone found her comment spot-on though just a few words, they perfectly captured their feelings. As the reposts piled up, she ended up trending. Qu Ange then focused on scrolling through her phone and discovered that someone had posted detailed videos on forums and video platforms. Despite the noise in the clips, some commented that her singing was beautiful, while others asked what song it was. The replies all said they’d never heard it before, leading to the conclusion that she wasn’t just gorgeous but also a talented artist who had composed such a catchy tune.
This praise made Qu Ange uneasy. Forget whether claiming the song as her own was morally questionable. What if people started calling her a prodigy and demanded she write another song?
Anyone with even a basic understanding of music would quickly realize she only had superficial knowledge, and the truth would be exposed immediately.
Even Qu Ange felt embarrassed reading such comments, so she stuck to scrolling through the ones praising her looks. Someone had taken clearer photos of her. No makeup, tears glistening, chin slightly raised, exuding a delicate and fragile beauty. In her past life, Qu Ange had embraced a bold, glamorous persona, but now she realized this softer look suited her too. She couldn’t help but reflect on how much more adaptable youth made her.
As they exited the station, Qu Ange received another call from Zhou Yue. Seeing the caller ID, she knew Zhou Yue had probably noticed her sudden online fame. She hung up immediately, checked the time, and said, “We’re running late. Let’s take a taxi.”
Xu Mi pretended not to hear and walked straight toward the bus stop. Qu Ange persisted, “If we take the bus, we won’t make it today.”
Xu Mi replied, “Then we’ll figure it out later.”
Qu Ange wrapped her arms around Xu Mi’s. “Baby, please.”
Xu Mi shot her a sidelong glare, and Qu Ange quickly adjusted her wording. “Please, Mimi. I can’t wait another minute.”
Xu Mi’s expression gave nothing away, but her mind was in turmoil. She couldn’t lie to herself. She wanted to marry Qu Ange too. Yet something about it felt off. Memories of the past six months flashed through her mind: their frequent phone arguments, the cold silences. When she received the breakup text, she hadn’t even been surprised. Instead, she’d thought, It was bound to happen eventually.
When had things taken such a sharp turn?
Had it really only been one night?
While Xu Mi was lost in thought, Qu Ange dragged her toward the taxi stand. Suddenly, Xu Mi grabbed Qu Ange’s hand and asked, “I have a question…”
Her hands were covered in a fine sheen of sweat, her palms damp and sticky. The heat rose from below, creeping over every inch of her skin, making it hard to breathe as if she were trapped in a sauna. At that moment, Xu Mi suddenly remembered last summer. The first time Qu Ange had landed a modeling job. She had ridden her electric scooter to take Qu Ange to the magazine’s modeling agency for the interview. Waiting downstairs for her, it had been just as stifling, like being in a steamer basket. Back then, she had no inkling of what was to come. She had bought an ice-cold cola and cradled it in her arms. Qu Ange had bounded down the steps of the building, her steps light and springy, hopping like a rabbit as she reached Xu Mi and exclaimed, “I got it!”
Xu Mi had smiled and said, “Congratulations.”
When had that cloudless summer day truly ended? Why, in the blink of an eye, had she lost the ability to wholeheartedly trust Qu Ange?
She swallowed, her throat bobbing, staring at Qu Ange, who squinted slightly in the sunlight, looking at her with confusion. Finally, she spoke.
“Do you still want to enter the entertainment industry?”
