Tangyuan was clearly happy to see Lu Zhao, nuzzling her repeatedly with soft, heart-melting meows.
Lu Zhao played with Tangyuan on the bed. By the time Ji Zhaoxi came out, the human and cat were already a tangled mess of fun. Ji Zhaoxi noticed that Tangyuan was indeed much more lively when it was with Lu Zhao.
“Is there a hairdryer?” Ji Zhaoxi asked.
“There.” Lu Zhao pointed casually without even looking at her.
Ji Zhaoxi wrinkled her nose and quietly went over to pick up the hairdryer and began drying her hair.
Her hair wasn’t extremely thick, but it was a decent amount, making it a bit of a chore to dry.
Ji Zhaoxi thought for a moment, turned off the hairdryer, and turned to Lu Zhao. “Would you like to expand another line of business?”
“Huh?” Lu Zhao looked up blankly, her eyes gradually clearing. “What business?”
“Whenever we are together, you help me dry my hair,” Ji Zhaoxi said.
Lu Zhao’s eyes lit up instantly. This task was effortless! She agreed immediately.
“No problem!”
Ji Zhaoxi smirked and gestured toward the hairdryer, indicating that she could start her new job right now.
Lu Zhao understood immediately. After telling Tangyuan to be a good girl and stay on the bed, she climbed down and walked behind Ji Zhaoxi, raising her hands to first gently detangle her hair.
Ji Zhaoxi sat quietly, allowing Lu Zhao to use her fingers as a comb. Occasionally, Lu Zhao would apply just the right amount of pressure to massage her scalp, which felt incredibly soothing.
Ji Zhaoxi narrowed her eyes in enjoyment, unable to suppress a slight inward smile. Lu Zhao really was dedicated when it came to earning money.
However, after the moment of amusement, a trace of gloom touched her heart. It would be nice if Lu Zhao didn’t have to try this hard.
The two were very quiet, maintaining a wordless tacit understanding; neither spoke again. After smoothing the hair, Lu Zhao picked up the hairdryer and began drying slowly from the ends up.
A quiet atmosphere is fertile ground for certain feelings to grow. The whirring of the hairdryer didn’t break the silence; instead, it felt like a fitting piece of light music, elevating the ambiance to a new level.
Slowly, Lu Zhao began to feel a bit restless. The vibe was becoming strange, but she felt that if she spoke up to break it, it would only get weirder.
Suppressing the rising heat in her chest, Lu Zhao felt a bit bitter. This money was certainly not easy to earn!
Finally finishing, Lu Zhao breathed a sigh of relief. She switched off the dryer and said, “Done. It’s late, let’s sleep!”
With that, she scurried back onto the bed and scooped the patiently waiting Tangyuan into her arms.
Ji Zhaoxi watched her rapid movements, silent for a second, then stood up with feigned indifference as if she hadn’t noticed anything. She walked to the other side of the bed and asked, “I’ll sleep here, then?”
Lu Zhao: “…”
Where else? On the floor?
At that thought, Lu Zhao glanced out of the corner of her eye at the floor, actually considering the possibility of someone sleeping there.
But she quickly gave up on the idea. If someone truly had to sleep on the floor, it definitely wouldn’t be Ji Zhaoxi. If it wasn’t her, it would have to be Lu Zhao herself…
Ji Zhaoxi noticed her gaze and, giving her no chance to speak, lifted the covers and lay down. “Turn off the lights.”
Lu Zhao: “…”
She obediently turned off the lights.
Lying in the dark, Lu Zhao stared at the ceiling and said, “President Ji, you’re being unfaithful like this.”
“Hmm?” Ji Zhaoxi let out an inquisitive sound from her nose.
Lu Zhao turned onto her side, barely able to make out Ji Zhaoxi’s silhouette. She said with mock tragedy, “You already have someone you love, so how can you share a bed with someone else? This is not keeping the ‘virtues of a wife’!”
Ji Zhaoxi kept her eyes closed and said calmly, “In that case, you go sleep on the floor.”
“Uh…”
Lu Zhao was choked by her words. She gritted her teeth, and though Ji Zhaoxi couldn’t see it, she wore a polite but awkward smile.
“I didn’t mean it like that. I meant that since that person is so blind, you don’t actually need to wait for them. Look at you now—you’re doing great. You can lie in a bed with someone today, and maybe ‘roll around’ in a bed with someone later. We take it one step at a time, making progress.”
Ji Zhaoxi: “…”
Sometimes she really wanted to crack open Lu Zhao’s head to see how it was wired!
“If that’s the case, you should make sure you’re prepared, so you aren’t completely clueless when we eventually ‘roll together’.” She paused for a beat before adding one more sentence.
“That would be truly embarrassing.”
“!”
Lu Zhao’s eyes went wide in the dark. Was she just flirted with by Ji Zhaoxi?
Was that a retort, or actual flirting?!
“Who… who’s going to with you…” Lu Zhao stopped mid-sentence, suddenly remembering her role as the “pursuer” and quickly adjusting her attitude.
Propping her head up on her palm, she looked toward Ji Zhaoxi with a triumphant, beaming expression. “Baby, saying that… are you already considering our future together? You’re even starting to worry about my ‘skills’.”
“As expected, there is no one Lu Zhao can’t win over.”
Ji Zhaoxi’s heart skipped a beat. A warmth spread through her chest because of Lu Zhao’s words, and she felt her face begin to burn. Fortunately, Lu Zhao couldn’t see her face clearly right now.
“I was just giving you a kind reminder,” Ji Zhaoxi said.
“But you are caring about me. After all, if I’m not the one ‘suffering,’ it’ll be you. So you must be planning ahead for our future harmony. Reminding me to be prepared so early… Baby, I’m truly touched!”
As she spoke, Lu Zhao’s tone became increasingly excited, as if she were on the verge of tears.
Ji Zhaoxi: “…”
Her face burned even hotter.
She squeezed her fingertips under the blanket, forcing herself to stay calm. She couldn’t let Lu Zhao get too smug.
“Lu Zhao, the more guilty a person feels, the more they talk. So, is it that you actually don’t know how?”
“I—!”
Lu Zhao was silenced. It felt like she had been poked in her weakest spot. She really couldn’t confidently claim she knew what she was doing!
She knew hands were involved, but as for the specific “how” or the “techniques”—that was strictly a blind spot in her knowledge.
Seeing her suddenly silenced like a dud firework, Ji Zhaoxi’s eyes curved into a smile in the dark. Her next words carried a hint of consolation.
“It doesn’t matter if you can’t learn it. It’s the same if I’m the one who knows how.”
Lu Zhao: “…”
Someone tell me why this conversation has devolved into who is going to lead in bed!
Lu Zhao: “I feel like… this topic is a bit ‘inharmonious’ for us, don’t you think?”
Lu Zhao felt she was being very subtle. As a pursuer, she hadn’t reached the “chase her into bed” stage yet! So “rolling in the sheets” shouldn’t be part of her job description!
Lu Zhao was collapsing internally, but she was also indignant! She felt that even though she lacked practical experience, her technique would definitely be top-tier! There was no way she would let Ji Zhaoxi dominate her!
Ji Zhaoxi’s tone was flat. “We are adults. Is there such a thing as ‘inharmonious’?”
Lu Zhao: “…”
Just because we’re adults doesn’t mean it’s harmonious! If we weren’t in a financial relationship, wouldn’t this behavior constitute sexual harassment!
Of course, Lu Zhao didn’t dare say that out loud. She was afraid of having her salary docked.
Tangyuan was nestled between the two of them, listening to their voices echoing on either side of her ears. She meowed occasionally to assert her presence, but neither of them responded.
Tangyuan got angry. She let out a louder meow and swept her tail across Ji Zhaoxi’s face to get attention.
Ji Zhaoxi, suddenly slapped by a cat tail: “…”
Tangyuan then rubbed her head against Lu Zhao’s neck, meowing in a particularly clingy way.
Lu Zhao immediately beamed, cradling the cat’s head and rubbing it, even leaning in to plant a kiss on the top of its head.
Ji Zhaoxi’s face went stiff. Why did she only get the “tail treatment” while Lu Zhao got the “cuddly head rubs”?
Lu Zhao didn’t notice. All her attention was on Tangyuan, having the time of her life playing with her. She had completely forgotten about the “harmonious” conversation.
Ji Zhaoxi stared straight into the void with open eyes, letting out a soft sigh as her features softened.
This was her first time sharing a bed with Lu Zhao. Even if she only received a cat tail’s worth of attention, it wasn’t unforgivable.
After all, the cat was the primary reason they were even in this bed together.
Smelling the faint scent of body wash drifting from Lu Zhao, Ji Zhaoxi’s lips curved slightly. She felt a secret joy.
Lu Zhao was initially just playing with the cat, but gradually, in the silence of Ji Zhaoxi’s presence, she began to feel a different sort of vibe. Her play with Tangyuan became distracted.
Ji Zhaoxi’s faint orange scent was really pleasant. As Lu Zhao breathed it in, she even thought about switching her own body wash to this brand—it smelled too good!
As they stopped moving and it grew quiet, the strange tension in the air seemed to ferment even more. Lu Zhao began to feel uncomfortable lying there. With another breathing person beside her, she couldn’t hypnotize herself into falling asleep.
She rarely shared a bed with others. The few times she had were in hotels during filming with other actors, but those were twin rooms with separate beds!
Lu Zhao’s mind was practically doing gymnastics. She couldn’t understand—if she wasn’t used to this, shouldn’t Ji Zhaoxi be even more uncomfortable? Why did she seem so unbothered!
Worrying intensely, Lu Zhao held Tangyuan for comfort.
“President Ji, did anyone see you when you came?” Lu Zhao asked while rubbing Tangyuan’s head.
Ji Zhaoxi: “…I’m not exactly invisible.”
Lu Zhao: “…I meant the paparazzi or people from our crew.”
“I don’t know them,” Ji Zhaoxi replied calmly.
Lu Zhao fell silent, giving Ji Zhaoxi a mental “thumbs up.” One had to admit, having the capital to be headstrong was impressive.
Checking the internet, she saw the news about them was still the old reports. It seemed Ji Zhaoxi hadn’t been caught this time.
“Go to sleep. I’m tired,” Ji Zhaoxi said, her voice sounding weary.
“Oh, goodnight,” Lu Zhao said.
“Goodnight.”
After the exchange, neither spoke again. Lu Zhao inhaled the orange scent, her eyelids grew heavier, and eventually, her consciousness faded.
From initial discomfort to sleep, their bodies unconsciously moved toward each other. Tangyuan, sleeping in the middle, felt the space getting tight. She got up, hopped over to the other side of Lu Zhao, and lay down there.
Their bodies drew closer, stopping only when there was about a fist’s width of distance between them. However, at this distance, any turn or stretch would result in accidental contact.
Outside, the sounds of insects and birds were clear; inside, a quiet peace reigned.
They both slept very well.
The next day, following a comfortable night’s rest, they were woken by their internal clocks. Neither felt any morning grumpiness. Opening their eyes, they saw each other right in front of them.
Lu Zhao: “!!!”
Ji Zhaoxi remained very calm. She looked at Lu Zhao, whose bright, beautiful face looked even more charming after a good night’s sleep, with a slight rosy flush on her cheeks.
Lu Zhao’s eyes were still a bit dazed and shocked, staring blankly at her.
“What do you want for breakfast?” Ji Zhaoxi asked.
Lu Zhao snapped out of it: “…”
She immediately backed away from Ji Zhaoxi, her face turning red. “Why are you such an ‘unsettled’ sleeper?”
They had been so far apart before falling asleep!
Ji Zhaoxi was silent for a moment before saying, “If I’m unsettled, then so are you. Look at where you are now.”
Lu Zhao: “???”
Looking closely, she realized she didn’t have a leg to stand on! She wasn’t in her original position either!
She fell silent and turned around, seeing Tangyuan sleeping nearby. She couldn’t help but pat the cat’s head sympathetically.
“Poor thing, did you get squeezed out and have to sleep over here?”
Ji Zhaoxi ignored her drama, got out of bed, and sent a quick text message before heading to wash up.
Once Ji Zhaoxi was in the bathroom, Lu Zhao stopped her fake sleeping, kicked her legs on the bed in frustration, and let out a silent scream!
Why, when two people sleep so close together, does she act like nothing happened?! Am I the only one who finds this awkward?!
Suddenly, a furry paw was shoved into Lu Zhao’s open mouth.
Lu Zhao: “…”
She quickly pulled the paw out, gave the innocent Tangyuan a resentful look, and hurried to fight Ji Zhaoxi for the bathroom.
“What’s wrong? You can’t wait a few minutes?” came Ji Zhaoxi’s muffled voice from inside, seemingly full of toothpaste bubbles.
“I… I need to rinse my mouth!”
“…”
After some rustling sounds, Ji Zhaoxi emerged, washed and refreshed.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Ji Zhaoxi opened it and took a bag of breakfast from a bodyguard.
“Ooh, what’s for breakfast?” Lu Zhao emerged from the bathroom. She was wearing a fluffy headband to hold her hair back, revealing her smooth forehead, with a few stray droplets of water on her face. she looked incredibly fresh and pure.
Ji Zhaoxi glanced at her, her hand tightening slightly on the bag. “There’s porridge and wontons.”
Lu Zhao’s eyes lit up, then she hesitated. “But I want both, and I’m afraid I can’t finish them both.”
Ji Zhaoxi: “…We’ll split them in half.”
Lu Zhao’s eyes sparkled. She blew a “big heart” to Ji Zhaoxi and went to feed Tangyuan first.
Ji Zhaoxi took the food out and found disposable bowls to divide it. By the time Lu Zhao sat down, Ji Zhaoxi was already slowly eating her porridge.
Looking at her, Lu Zhao still hadn’t adapted to the fact that she was actually here. It was too surreal!
But no matter how surreal, it had happened. After breakfast, Ji Zhaoxi changed into clean professional attire, picked up Tangyuan, slung her backpack over one shoulder, and left.
She really looked like a “player” who had just come over for a good night’s sleep and left as soon as it was over.
Lu Zhao: “…”
Fortunately, Sister Li brought good news early that morning. Although she hadn’t secured a direct meeting with “Xu Er,” she found out he would be attending a celebrity friend’s birthday party in two days. Lu Zhao could see him there.
Lu Zhao was delighted. This was good enough. As long as she could see him, she could find a chance to speak with him privately!
She, Lu Zhao, was about to start working hard for the sake of her job!
