Lu Zhao looked at Qiao Yang in disbelief. The young man’s face was full of earnestness; he didn’t look like he was lying at all.
How is this guy even more of a “licker” than I am?
“Are you serious?” Lu Zhao asked, her face full of horror. If this guy actually went to Thailand for gender reassignment surgery, she would be a sinner! His parents would probably beat her to death!
“Don’t you like women?” Qiao Yang frowned at Lu Zhao, his eyes filled with confusion at her question.
Lu Zhao: “…Stop messing around.”
“I’m not messing around!” Qiao Yang got anxious, showing Lu Zhao his phone screen to prove he was actually about to make the call.
Lu Zhao was breaking into a cold sweat. She looked toward Sister Li for help, but Sister Li was already facing the wall in shameful repentance.
“Qiao Yang, let’s get one thing straight first.” Lu Zhao tried to appeal to his reason. “Don’t you think about why I like women? It’s because women are more delicate and can understand my heart better!”
“And even if you transition, so what? You’d still be male at heart. Besides, I don’t accept trans women; I like those who were born female.”
Lu Zhao spoke very seriously. After all, Qiao Yang was the precious youngest son of the Qiao family. If he changed his gender for her, she wouldn’t be able to survive in this social circle anymore.
“How can you be like this? I can understand you perfectly well, too.” Qiao Yang’s spirit visibly wilted. He looked like an abandoned puppy, radiating an aura of pitiable misery.
Unfortunately, Lu Zhao’s heart wasn’t that soft. She wasn’t going to pity him.
“Alright, I have things to do, so I’m leaving.” Lu Zhao just wanted to get away as soon as possible. Qiao Yang was truly difficult to deal with—two years younger than her, he used his age to relentlessly pester her.
“Lu Zhao, I really like you.” Qiao Yang’s voice was low, sounding as if he was about to cry.
Lu Zhao sighed. Just as she was about to pat his shoulder and tell him there was no hope, her expression suddenly froze. She looked at the tall figure ahead and went speechless.
The woman wore a perfectly tailored suit, with silver half-rimmed glasses perched on the bridge of her nose. Looking over indifferently, she seemed like a celestial being who had fallen into the mortal realm, carrying an aura that made one afraid to look at her for too long.
Lu Zhao’s heart skipped two heavy beats—partially out of shock. When did this person get here?!
“Wh—why are you here?” Lu Zhao’s voice stuttered slightly.
Hearing her words, the other two couldn’t help but look up at Lu Zhao and then follow her gaze to see Ji Zhaoxi standing in the shadows.
Half of her body was hidden in the darkness. In the play of light and shadow, she possessed an ambiguous air that made it hard to tell if she was good or evil.
Ji Zhaoxi stepped out from the shadows, her features becoming clearer under the light. Her thin lips were pressed together, and those naturally cool eyes looked at Qiao Yang as she answered Lu Zhao.
“I happened to have a project meeting scheduled here. Since I knew you were here, I thought I’d come by and see.”
Her tone was flat, but Lu Zhao, who was familiar with her, could detect a faint hint of moodiness.
What is she moody about?
Sister Li looked at this “crematorium” scene in horror, not understanding how things had suddenly turned out like this. However, one thing was crucial right now: she absolutely could not let Ji Zhaoxi think Lu Zhao was romantically involved with someone else!
“Mr. Qiao, our Zhaozhao has already made it very clear. She likes President Ji—likes her to death! She has never liked you, so please stop pestering her!”
As Sister Li spoke, she winked frantically at Lu Zhao.
Listening to Sister Li, Lu Zhao was absolutely dumbstruck. When did she ever say she liked Ji Zhaoxi “to death”? How did the subject of the sentence even change?!
However, these words sounded perfectly fine to Qiao Yang. Lu Zhao said she liked women and was chasing after Ji Zhaoxi—didn’t that mean she liked her to death?
But hearing this was so infuriating and painful!
Hearing Sister Li’s words, Ji Zhaoxi finally shifted her gaze away from Qiao Yang and cast a faint glance at Lu Zhao.
“Cough, why didn’t you send me a message when you arrived? I could have come to meet you.” Lu Zhao adjusted her emotions and jogged over to Ji Zhaoxi’s side. Her eyes were bright as she looked at Ji Zhaoxi, filled with an extraordinary joy.
Anyone seeing her like this would never believe Lu Zhao didn’t like Ji Zhaoxi; on the contrary, she seemed to be head over heels!
“You’re not allowed to look at her like that!” Qiao Yang snapped. Lu Zhao had never looked at him with that kind of gaze.
“Hmm?” Ji Zhaoxi dropped her gaze back onto Qiao Yang. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she said coldly, “What does it have to do with you how she looks at me?”
When their eyes met, others might not have noticed, but Qiao Yang felt a chill from the icy coldness in her gaze that made him shudder. How could someone’s eyes be so terrifying?
Lu Zhao keenly sensed something was wrong, but when she looked at Ji Zhaoxi’s expression, she saw the woman merely had her eyelids half-closed, looking at no one in particular, as if she didn’t care about the situation at all.
Qiao Yang’s face turned bright red. “I’m declaring war on you! We’ll compete fairly!”
Ji Zhaoxi’s expression remained unchanged.
Lu Zhao looked at Qiao Yang with a complex expression.
Sister Li chimed in from the side: “Mr. Qiao, you’ve declared war on the wrong person. President Ji is the one being chased, not the one chasing Lu Zhao.”
Therefore, a “fair competition” didn’t even exist!
Qiao Yang: “…”
He turned to glare at Sister Li.
Sister Li looked back at him innocently.
Qiao Yang gritted his teeth: “Would it kill you to say a few less words?”
Not a single thing this person said was something he wanted to hear!
Sister Li made a gesture of zipping her lips.
Ji Zhaoxi ignored Qiao Yang. She lifted her hand to check the time and then looked at Lu Zhao. “I still have some time. Want to go grab a coffee?”
Lu Zhao’s eyes lit up. She couldn’t wait to leave this place, so she nodded repeatedly.
“I want to go too!” Qiao Yang said urgently.
The other three women were speechless. Lu Zhao once again felt how difficult he was.
“Qiao Yang, I’m going to have coffee with my sweetheart. Why are you following us?” As Lu Zhao spoke, she leaned closer to Ji Zhaoxi, wanting Qiao Yang to see exactly what the situation was.
The closer she got, the more clearly Lu Zhao could smell the faint scent of oranges on Ji Zhaoxi. She couldn’t help but peek at her from the corner of her eye, feeling quite puzzled.
Actually, she had always been curious—why was Ji Zhaoxi’s scent orange? It felt a bit mismatched with the vibe she gave off, yet it was surprisingly pleasant.
And this person even insisted on orange-flavored candy. She didn’t know why Ji Zhaoxi was so partial to oranges.
“You’re going to have coffee with your sweetheart! Can’t I follow mine?!” His youthful face was full of stubbornness, thinking that perhaps a little more persistence would yield results.
Hearing his words, Ji Zhaoxi looked at Lu Zhao with a complicated gaze. She leaned down and whispered in Lu Zhao’s ear: “Are you and he surfing on the same part of the internet?”
“How is it that your ways of pursuing people are both so… ‘licky’?”
Lu Zhao’s eyes widened. What does she mean? Does Ji Zhaoxi know that I learned how to chase her from the internet?!
