Chapter 6: Messing Around with Some Wild Alpha
Duan Yue sent Xiang Shuyu home. The villa in Linjiang Bay had been bought with the money Xiang Shuyu earned himself over the years, but when it came time to register the deed, Jiang Xiayue claimed he was too young and inexperienced, insisting he put her name on it.
So now, legally, this house belonged to Jiang Xiayue.
Thinking about the house made Xiang Shuyu feel irritable. Since he became an adult, Jiang Xiayue’s desire for control had grown stronger and stronger. More than once, the thought of cutting ties with her completely had crossed his mind. He had enjoyed a rare period of freedom while studying abroad, but upon returning to the country, he fell back into the cage she had forged in the name of “mother and son.”
The money in his hands was no longer enough. He didn’t know where he could go if he left Linjiang Bay; he had no other residence, and if he left, he might end up living on the streets.
He was lost in thought while Duan Yue remained on the phone, likely discussing business matters.
Xiang Shuyu didn’t understand business and couldn’t follow the conversation, so there was no need to hide things from him. Duan Yue knew this and didn’t bother to step away.
The car stopped at the entrance of Linjiang Bay. Duan Yue had just finished his call; whatever was said on the other end had left his mood cold. He spoke without much emotion: “Get out. I have things to do.”
Xiang Shuyu suddenly felt a hollow sensation in his heart, but then he told himself that Duan Yue being willing to drive him home was already very good. He felt grateful and said, “Thank you.”
As he opened the car door to step out, he heard Duan Yue let out a laugh devoid of any real malice—just a mocking sound.
Xiang Shuyu was a bit bewildered, but before he could speak, Duan Yue had already signaled the driver to pull away. From beginning to end, he hadn’t said a single word of farewell.
In this state, what kind of “couple” were they?
The expression on Xiang Shuyu’s face faded, and disappointment slowly crept into his eyes and across his brow.
Before this, he had never considered having an intimate relationship. But back when he was a student, sharing a dorm with other male Omegas, they had sat around one night talking about future marriages. Everyone was longing to find true love, describing their ideal lives.
At that time, Xiang Shuyu had also fantasized about his future married life. He thought he might marry an Alpha who loved him very much.
Or, it was fine if they didn’t love him—as long as they treated each other with mutual respect.
His only requirement for a partner was simply that they respect him.
But clearly, Duan Yue did not meet his fantasies or requirements. Yet, if he were to voice such thoughts, people would likely only criticize him for not knowing his place and being ungrateful.
With Duan Yue’s family background, being willing to date him was already a favor.
Xiang Shuyu just felt frustrated.
There was still a long walk from the community gate to his house. After walking a few steps, his legs began to feel sore, and his waist and back ached.
Duan Yue was indeed doing these things for the first time; he was clumsy and heavy-handed, grossly overestimating an Omega’s endurance.
Xiang Shuyu truly couldn’t walk any further. He stopped, leaned against a random wall for a moment, and caught his breath.
His phone rang again.
There was only one message on the screen, sent by Ming Xiu.
The young Omega never bothered to hide his malice toward Xiang Shuyu, typing out: “Sorry about that, Shuyu-ge, I snatched your commercial gig.”
Xiang Shuyu felt a sharp sting of pain in his heart, along with a trace of resentment.
But after the emotion swirled for a moment, he ultimately lost his spirit and replied somewhat numbly: “It’s fine.”
Too cowardly.
Xiang Shuyu thought.
He didn’t even dare to say a harsh word to curse back; he could only pretend nothing happened and shove the phone back into his pocket.
He felt gloomy and a bit like crying. His breathing quickened, and then he heard someone call him: “Shuyu? Why are you standing there? Are you feeling unwell?”
The person approaching was Nanny Zhang, the nanny hired by the neighbors for their child. She was a female Beta who always greeted Xiang Shuyu.
Xiang Shuyu’s health wasn’t great—especially during the first two years after he returned to the country, he was always getting sick, and there was no one to care for him.
Jiang Xiayue had her own social circles and duties; she was busy every day and had no time to look after her son.
Since her son had been an adult for a long time, she felt there was no need to take care of him—and she even demanded that Xiang Shuyu support her in return.
Sometimes Xiang Shuyu quite envied Jiang Xiayue’s state of mind; she was always confident and had a very high sense of entitlement.
He had once overheard someone say to Jiang Xiayue: “How could someone like you give birth to such a spineless son?”
Xiang Shuyu felt sad hearing that and didn’t listen to the rest of the conversation. Regardless, he knew Jiang Xiayue wouldn’t defend him or speak well of him; she might even join in.
Whenever he was too sick to move, Nanny Zhang would kindly help him buy medicine, and they became close over time.
She was very good to him, and Xiang Shuyu was someone who knew how to be grateful; whenever Nanny Zhang needed help, he was always ready to step up.
Nanny Zhang walked over and asked with concern, “Shuyu, your face is too red. Are you sick again?”
“Ah,” Xiang Shuyu raised his hand to cover his nose, saying softly, “I might have caught a cold last night.”
“Sigh, your mom was hosting a party at home last night and didn’t bother to check on you. They were noisy all night and only stopped this morning,” Nanny Zhang said. “Go back and take some medicine later, okay? I have things to do and can’t help you buy medicine today.”
Seeing her hurrying off, Xiang Shuyu couldn’t help but ask: “Nanny Zhang, what’s the emergency? Do you need my help?”
“Ha, how could I let you help with everything,” Nanny Zhang looked a bit embarrassed. “It’s like this—my little granddaughter is sick. They say it’s leukemia and she needs a bone marrow transplant. We can’t find a match, so it’s just been dragging on… Sigh, I’m rushing to go look after her. I’ll talk to you later!”
Xiang Shuyu’s heart skipped a beat: “How could it be so sudden?”
He had seen that little girl before; she was a very cute kid, and he liked her.
Who would have thought she’d suddenly fall ill.
Xiang Shuyu said urgently, “Well, even if you can’t find marrow, you can’t just leave it like that. Let me ask around for you.”
“Shuyu, that’s not what I meant,” Nanny Zhang sighed. “Our family… our financial situation is limited. Even if a kind soul donated marrow, the money would still be… Sigh!”
Xiang Shuyu was speechless for a moment.
He wanted to give her money, but his own hands were tied right now.
If he made a grand promise to help and then couldn’t deliver, he would only be giving someone false hope.
Xiang Shuyu pursed his lips. Seeing that he had stopped talking, Nanny Zhang patted her clothes and said, “I’m going now.”
Xiang Shuyu returned home in a gloomy mood.
The house still had a lingering smell of cigarettes, and trash was piled up at the door.
He changed his shoes at the entrance and entered the living room, which was a complete mess.
Normally, Xiang Shuyu would proactively clean the house, restoring everything to its original state and waiting for Jiang Xiayue to mess it up all over again.
But today, he was too tired.
He only wanted to lie down and sleep.
Unfortunately, Jiang Xiayue had no intention of letting him have his way.
It wasn’t until Xiang Shuyu reached the foot of the stairs that he saw Jiang Xiayue standing on the landing, looking at him with a cold gaze.
Xiang Shuyu’s body stiffened. The exhaustion rapidly spread through him the moment he saw his mother. He let out a silent sigh, knowing she was about to lose her temper, and called out softly: “Mom.”
It was a polite greeting.
Xiang Shuyu headed upstairs, intending to walk past her, but she blocked his path.
Jiang Xiayue asked, “You’ve grown quite bold, Xiang Shuyu. You dare not answer my calls?”
“I was busy last night,” Xiang Shuyu said.
“Busy doing what?”
“…”
Xiang Shuyu was silent for a moment. Jiang Xiayue remained aggressive, hurling questions at him one after another. “I told you to seduce Duan Yue! Where is he? Did you see him? Did you hook him? How is it that you can’t even get a commercial gig, yet you were ‘busy’ somewhere last night? Doing what?”
“Mom,” Xiang Shuyu’s head felt like it was going to explode from the pain. “Which question should I answer first?”
“Xiang Shuyu!”
It was a voice filled with rage.
Xiang Shuyu could hear it.
He suddenly didn’t want to tell her about last night. He didn’t want her to know he had slept with Duan Yue, and even more, he didn’t want her to know that Duan Yue had promised him a relationship.
If he told her, Jiang Xiayue would surely push him even harder, forcing him to do more outrageous things.
He couldn’t guess what they would be right now, but he had no sense of trust left for her. He didn’t believe she would behave herself.
So, without much hesitation, Xiang Shuyu lied: “I saw Duan Yue. We didn’t have much of an interaction.”
“No interaction?” Jiang Xiayue’s voice turned shrill. “You’re truly useless, Xiang Shuyu! I gave birth to you with such looks for nothing! What’s the use of having this face? Might as well slash it with a knife!”
Xiang Shuyu had heard such harsh words since childhood; he was numb to them and didn’t take them to heart.
“I’ll try harder.” He used his usual line, though it was now tinged with perfunctoriness. “Sorry, Mom. I let you down.”
He could feel that he might truly have a low-grade fever. Duan Yue had finished inside him earlier; fearing he might get pregnant, Duan Yue had held him over the toilet to clean him out.
At that time, Xiang Shuyu felt that Duan Yue had almost forced open his reproductive cavity, but since the partner hadn’t formed a “bond” (knot), an Omega’s cavity remains closed. He shouldn’t be so unlucky as to get pregnant.
Maybe it was just the “residue” causing trouble.
He wanted to go clean himself again, but just as he tried to brush past Jiang Xiayue, she suddenly grabbed his wrist.
She gripped him so tightly her nails nearly sank into his flesh. It hurt.
Xiang Shuyu gasped, then heard her ask in a suspicious tone: “Why do you have the scent of an Alpha’s pheromones on you?”
Xiang Shuyu’s scalp tingled; a sense of unease filled him.
It was related to his gland sensitivity and his sense of smell. He hadn’t noticed Duan Yue’s lingering pheromones himself, but for a normal Omega, it was perfectly natural for Jiang Xiayue to notice.
He had forgotten about this.
Xiang Shuyu’s lips moved, but before he could explain, Jiang Xiayue violently jerked his collar.
Her nails scratched across his cheek, leaving a sharp sting. Xiang Shuyu had almost no strength or courage to resist; his back hit the wall as she tore open his collar.
His neck and collarbone were covered in ambiguous, mottled marks, every single one announcing what he had done last night.
Jiang Xiayue’s beautiful eyes widened, and the hand clutching his collar began to tremble slightly.
Xiang Shuyu thought: she will scream first, and then she will slap me.
A second later, as expected, Jiang Xiayue screamed.
Slap!
The slap landed on the other side of his face, leaving two or three more red marks.
Xiang Shuyu’s cheek burned with pain. His eyes instantly turned red, shimmering with moisture.
He didn’t cry. There was a constant ringing in his ears, and he couldn’t even hear what Jiang Xiayue was shouting.
He lowered his eyes and leaned against the wall, silent as a puppet.
Jiang Xiayue was going crazy. She shook him, screaming: “You were busy last night! Busy with this? I told you to find Duan Yue! You went and messed around with some other wild Alpha? Messed around so much you didn’t answer my calls, and you even came back covered in a mess of pheromones?”
“I didn’t…”
Xiang Shuyu said softly, but his voice was immediately drowned out by hers: “You’ve disappointed me so much, Xiang Shuyu! Duan Yue is such a picky person—now that you’ve turned yourself into this state, how could he possibly still want you!”
“Then…” Xiang Shuyu thought to himself: Isn’t that for the best? “Then let’s just forget it, Mom. I wasn’t suitable to be with him anyway.”
If Jiang Xiayue gave up her absurd high-society dream now, he could treat everything from last night and this morning as an accidental encounter unrelated to love and never have anything to do with Duan Yue again.
But in the next instant, she slapped him again.
The force of the blow made him sway. His feet stumbled, and he missed a step on the stairs, tumbling down.
