It’s So Exhausting Having Top-tier Alpha Twins As Exes - Chapter 4
Chapter 4: So Obedient.
Duan Yue pulled Xiang Shuyu into his arms with practiced ease, smoothly taking the phone from his hand.
Xiang Shuyu felt the other man’s pheromones. He couldn’t quite identify the scent, but the pressure was immense—like countless invisible tentacles wrapping around him, unintentionally suppressing his mobility and making his legs feel weak.
Memories of last night flooded back. In an instant, Xiang Shuyu’s face flushed hot, and his heart raced with panic. His body felt frail, and with his mind going blank, he almost leaned his entire weight against Duan Yue.
Duan Yue’s hand rested on his shoulder, his fingers restlessly brushing against Xiang Shuyu’s cheek.
For years, Duan Yue had never kept an Omega by his side. Plenty of people had tried to send them his way, but he was fastidious and had no interest in those offered as gifts.
Xiang Shuyu, however, was an exception. He was beautiful, with a very clean aura.
Initially, Duan Yue had been somewhat indifferent last night, thinking Xiang Shuyu was far too green. But after getting a taste, he changed his mind—Xiang Shuyu was actually quite good.
When he told Xiang Shuyu to call him “husband,” the boy would simply comply, his voice trembling, tearful, and timid.
He had only given Xiang Shuyu a temporary mark—it was hard to notice and served only to keep his heat cycle in check.
Duan Yue had planned to take things slow. He wasn’t seriously looking for a relationship; he figured he’d likely lose interest after sleeping with him a few more times.
Yet, after going down to the restaurant for breakfast—even considering what he might bring back for him—the little “ungrateful” thing had left without even saying goodbye.
Duan Yue was a little annoyed.
No one had ever dared to leave him without a word before. Born into a wealthy, prestigious family and recognized as a rising star in the business world, he was constantly pursued. No one had ever made him feel slighted.
This Omega named Xiang Shuyu was the first.
However, to his surprise, when he chased after him, the boy hadn’t gone far. He was even on the phone with another Alpha.
Duan Yue felt a mix of amusement and irritation. With a hint of dissatisfaction, he asked Ji Yeran on the other end of the line, “You’re so concerned about my boyfriend—do you like him too?”
Ji Yeran paused. “You—”
For a moment, he didn’t even know which part to argue with. After a long silence, he asked, “Boyfriend?”
“Now you know,” Duan Yue said, his tone unreadable. “Keep your thoughts to yourself. Don’t be so obvious.”
He hung up and shoved the phone back into Xiang Shuyu’s hand.
Only then did Duan Yue seem to notice the expression on Xiang Shuyu’s face. The boy was dazed, his long lashes damp with traces of moisture, making his clear eyes look stunning. The flush on his skin made him look as though he were still caught in the throes of desire.
Duan Yue’s Adam’s apple bobbed. That sudden surge of desire from the night before resurfaced. He didn’t know what kind of spell Xiang Shuyu had cast on him; he had never been this addicted to someone before.
He pinched Xiang Shuyu’s cheek to bring him back to reality.
Startled, Xiang Shuyu lowered his head and gripped his phone tightly.
He had heard what Duan Yue said to Ji Yeran.
He said he was his boyfriend.
Xiang Shuyu’s heart hammered against his ribs. He felt he must have misheard. It wasn’t that he looked down on himself, but rather that he felt a man like Duan Yue probably never meant what he said. He had already prepared himself for the possibility that last night was just “talk,” wondering how he would explain things to Jiang Xiayue when he got back.
So, hearing those three words again so suddenly left him feeling lost.
“What are you thinking about?” Duan Yue looked down, his gaze settling on the boy’s reddened lips. Seeing them part slightly, he peered at the soft tongue hidden behind his teeth.
He remembered last night, propped up on his elbows beside him, watching Xiang Shuyu lose himself in the act. The boy had been panting with his mouth slightly open, his little tongue peeking out. Duan Yue had put two fingers into his mouth, prying his teeth apart to toy with that soft tongue.
Xiang Shuyu had felt uncomfortable, but even so, he didn’t know how to resist.
He was such a soft-natured coward.
Duan Yue’s desire intensified.
He suddenly thought that having a boyfriend like Xiang Shuyu wouldn’t be bad.
Playing around was fine. After all… it’s not like they were getting married.
He tilted Xiang Shuyu’s chin up and pressed a light kiss onto his lips.
Xiang Shuyu snapped back to his senses, his face turning bright red. He pushed against Duan Yue awkwardly to create some distance.
“Duan… Duan Yue…” he stammered.
“What?” Duan Yue felt like he was teasing a frightened rabbit. He didn’t mind pushing a bit further. “You were the one who said you wanted to be my boyfriend last night.”
Xiang Shuyu remembered, of course. He had been drunk, and Duan Yue had intentionally led him into saying it. “I thought you were just saying it casually,” he said helplessly.
“Ah,” Duan Yue chuckled. “Your trust is quite low, isn’t it?”
He pulled Xiang Shuyu back into his arms and led him toward the manor. “Eat breakfast first. I’ll take you home later.”
He paused as Xiang Shuyu’s phone began to ring again.
Xiang Shuyu’s breath hitched. He flipped the phone over; it was Ji Yeran again.
Ji Yeran felt like he had seen a ghost. He had actually heard Duan Yue call Xiang Shuyu his “boyfriend.”
What a joke. Duan Yue was a born troublemaker who loved playing games with people. Xiang Shuyu was so dim-witted; he’d surely be eaten alive and left with nothing.
He did “understand” Xiang Shuyu, in a way. He had only agreed to bring him here to trick him, to make him fail and watch him suffer.
Who wouldn’t want to bully someone like Xiang Shuyu?
But since last night, Duan Yue’s behavior had exceeded Ji Yeran’s expectations. First, he took him away, then they slept together, and now, he was calling him his boyfriend.
Ji Yeran just wanted to ask what the hell was going on, but Xiang Shuyu wouldn’t pick up.
“Dammit!” Ji Yeran nearly threw his phone.
Did he like Xiang Shuyu? Not necessarily.
It was just that for a long time, Xiang Shuyu seemed to have no real friends and contacted him the most. Often, when Xiang Shuyu wanted to go to a banquet or see Duan Yue, he would ask Ji Yeran for help.
He had indeed had designs on Xiang Shuyu, but it was strictly physical.
Ji Yeran took a deep breath and tossed his phone onto the passenger seat, suddenly feeling like an idiot for rushing out to pick him up.
The ringing eventually stopped.
Duan Yue stayed by his side, his eyes fixed on the caller ID.
“Oh, it’s Ji Yeran,” Duan Yue said, his voice as calm as a still pond.
Xiang Shuyu didn’t dare answer. He felt a wave of guilt and found it impossible to read the emotion behind Duan Yue’s words.
Once the call ended, he felt a sense of relief, only to hear Duan Yue say: “I’ve heard Ji Yeran has a very messy private life.”
“I… I didn’t know,” Xiang Shuyu whispered, sounding like he was making excuses. “He and I… we aren’t that close…”
Duan Yue didn’t respond for a long while. He kept his arm around the boy’s shoulder as they entered the restaurant.
The room was empty and quiet. Duan Yue, having already eaten, had picked out a few items Xiang Shuyu might like and placed them on the table. “It’s a buffet. If it’s not enough, you can get more later.”
He sat back down next to him. Xiang Shuyu seemed distracted, poking at the food in his bowl with his chopsticks.
“You don’t like it?” Duan Yue frowned and asked.
Xiang Shuyu snapped out of it. His lips moved for a moment, but he said nothing, simply shaking his head.
He was a bit overwhelmed and unaccustomed to this.
Even though… none of this was what he actually liked to eat.
Duan Yue picking out food was a kind gesture. Perhaps he shouldn’t be a spoilsport.
His mind was restless. One moment he was thinking about Ji Yeran’s call, the next he was thinking about what Duan Yue had said.
He was actually terrified of interacting with these wealthy heirs. Many of them seemed to have two faces; a simple conversation could lead to a trap where you’d be mocked and toyed with.
But Duan Yue was different from the others. Being close to him, Xiang Shuyu found that while he appeared approachable, it was only a surface-level impression.
His true thoughts were even harder to guess.
If it weren’t for Jiang Xiayue, he wouldn’t have to associate with these people, let alone seek out Duan Yue.
And he wouldn’t have…
He wouldn’t have slept with him.
Thinking of last night made Xiang Shuyu feel sad again. He wasn’t old-fashioned or conservative, but he had never thought about dating or marriage before—he lacked both the time and the energy.
Being forced by Jiang Xiayue to try and get close to Duan Yue had never worked before.
He had long prepared himself for the reality that he and Duan Yue would never have any intersection.
But last night, he had actually slept with him.
Xiang Shuyu felt aggrieved and scared. He was terrified of getting pregnant from a single encounter. If he did, a man like Duan Yue would surely want nothing to do with him and would distance himself immediately.
And then…
Then, Jiang Xiayue would cry, make a scene, and blame him.
The mere thought made him feel suffocated.
“Are you listening to me?” Duan Yue asked again. Xiang Shuyu startled, and under Duan Yue’s gaze, his face slowly flushed and his eyes grew misty.
“I’m sorry…” Xiang Shuyu whispered.
Why is this happening?
Xiang Shuyu wiped his eyes. He hadn’t realized he was such a crybaby.
Duan Yue frowned again, but then he began to smile.
He propped his elbow on the back of Xiang Shuyu’s chair—a close, protective stance—and let his pheromones drift out, slowly enveloping the boy.
“What are you thinking? Thinking about that Ji Yeran?”
“No… no…”
“What is he to you?” Duan Yue had been wanting to ask. “He brought you here yesterday, didn’t he? An ex? Or… the current one?”
“Neither,” Xiang Shuyu shook his head repeatedly. “I don’t have that kind of relationship with him. We just… just know each other.”
Duan Yue remained silent for a good while.
Just know each other?
His eyes darkened. He couldn’t tell if Xiang Shuyu was truly that naive.
Ji Yeran’s intentions were practically written on his face. Duan Yue had found the man annoying since last night, and the repeated calls today were enough to make someone think he was looking for a cheating partner.
But since Xiang Shuyu denied it, Duan Yue didn’t press further. He picked up his chopsticks to put some food in Xiang Shuyu’s bowl and said, “Eat more. You’re too thin.”
Pausing, he added with a hint of suggestion, “I like them a bit plumper. They’re more comfortable to hold.”
He watched as Xiang Shuyu’s cheeks turned red again—a mix of shyness and embarrassment—but the boy obediently finished everything he was given.
Duan Yue brushed his finger against Xiang Shuyu’s smooth, delicate cheek, offering a casual praise as if to a well-behaved pet:
“So obedient.”
