Chapter 17: Careful Not to Make a Baby
Xiang Shuyu’s heart began to race again. He desperately wanted to know what would come out of Duan Yue’s mouth—whether he would admit there was a relationship between them or deny it.
At the same time, he was terrified of hearing an answer he wouldn’t like.
For however long Duan Yue remained silent, Xiang Shuyu remained tangled in dread, until Duan Yue finally spoke with a touch of confusion: “Who is Ming Xiu?”
This response was entirely outside Xiang Shuyu’s expectations. He froze for a moment, and before his thoughts could even return to his brain, he subconsciously blurted out an explanation: “The other guzheng player managed by my agent. You know, the Omega who is constantly stealing my contracts.”
“Oh,” Duan Yue blinked, drawing out the syllable as his tone took on a blatant hint of disdain. “Him. What’s he doing at our company? Looking to change careers and get into real estate?”
Xiang Shuyu’s eyelashes trembled; his mind was completely blank. “You… you haven’t seen him?”
“Should I have seen him?” Duan Yue looked even more puzzled than Xiang Shuyu and asked, “Is he some family’s young master too? I’ve never heard of him. He’s not as famous as you.”
These were words of comfort, even though they both knew that while Xiang Shuyu’s name was well-known in their circles, it wasn’t exactly a good reputation—all because of his socialite mother.
Xiang Shuyu was still in a daze. He felt that Duan Yue might be lying, but then again, it felt like he wasn’t. Had he become so clumsy that he couldn’t even distinguish truth from falsehood anymore?
Duan Yue didn’t notice his expression. Seemingly curious, he asked again: “Did you see which floor he went to? Wait, that’s not right. This elevator goes straight to the CEO’s office; it doesn’t stop at other floors. Did he go to the CEO’s office?”
Duan Yue seemed to suddenly remember something. The elevator had reached the top floor, and he naturally draped his arm around Xiang Shuyu’s shoulder, leading him out while sending a message to someone unknown.
Duan Yue’s office was located in the spot with the best lighting in the entire building. Upon entering, a very faint and pleasant woody fragrance filled the air, permeating the room without being overpowering. The desk was spacious, and the floor-to-ceiling windows were bright.
For a moment, Xiang Shuyu almost forgot what he had been worrying about, turning his head curiously to take in his surroundings.
This was his first time in the office of such a big boss; it was completely different from anyone else’s.
“Ah…” Duan Yue suddenly made a small sound, causing Xiang Shuyu to turn toward him.
Duan Yue turned off his phone screen and placed it back on the desk. He pulled Xiang Shuyu to lean against the edge of the desk and held both of his hands, speaking to him like they were just chatting about daily life: “An Omega named Ming Xiu did come. They said he was looking for my brother.”
“Your brother?” Xiang Shuyu was stunned. To his shame, he didn’t know much about Duan Yue’s family situation; everything he knew came from Ji Yeran and Jiang Xiayue.
They hadn’t mentioned to Xiang Shuyu that Duan Yue had a brother, and since Xiang Shuyu didn’t usually follow financial news, he naturally didn’t know.
Duan Yue shrugged and added: “Yeah, my younger twin brother. He’s a very boring person doesn’t go to parties, doesn’t participate in social activities. Every day he just holed up in his room to study, study, and study. But didn’t he say he wasn’t coming back until next month? Why is he in the office today?”
Xiang Shuyu’s train of thought was completely diverted; he was no longer thinking about what happened at the elevator. “So, were his grades good in the end?”
“Yeah. With that much hard work, of course they were good.”
“What about you?” Xiang Shuyu couldn’t help but laugh and asked a few more questions, “Were you a top student or a slacker?”
“Don’t look down on your boyfriend, okay?” Duan Yue reached out and poked Xiang Shuyu’s forehead. “I just couldn’t beat my brother, but ranking in the top ten of the grade was still doable.”
Wealthy young masters of their class were different from ordinary people. Ordinary people have to fight with all their might to change their fate through education, but these heirs are born with the best educational resources, immersed in it from a young age with the highest quality tutors. They never had to worry about their studies.
Xiang Shuyu grew a bit lost in thought, and the expression on his face dimmed again.
Duan Yue reached out to hug his waist, pulling him closer.
As he sat leaning against the desk, the body circled by his arms was slender and soft. Duan Yue thought to himself: How would I have time to pay attention to some Ming Xiu or whatever? With Xiang Shuyu in front of me, I’m about to give him all my attention.
Duan Yue buried his head in Xiang Shuyu’s chest, inhaling the scent of Shirley poppy on him, and suddenly murmured: “You’ve really put a spell on me.”
“I did not,” Xiang Shuyu said.
“You did.”
Perhaps because they were bickering, Xiang Shuyu suddenly remembered the argument he had with Jiang Xiayue today. He felt a sudden urge to claim some credit and said to Duan Yue: “I had a fight with my mother today.”
“Oh?” Duan Yue asked with interest, “What about?”
“She knows Eldest Brother likes me.” Mentioning this still made Xiang Shuyu feel terrible. His disappointment in Jiang Xiayue had accumulated day by day, and now that he fully understood her temperament, he only felt exhausted. “She wanted me to agree to be with him, and then get married.”
Before he could finish, Duan Yue’s face turned sour, covered in dark clouds that even Xiang Shuyu noticed.
Xiang Shuyu’s fingers gently brushed over Duan Yue’s brow, smoothing out the frown, and he continued: “I told her, ‘No.’ She was very angry, but I realized she had no way to force me.”
He then reminded Duan Yue: “I’ve already said ‘No’ once today.”
Duan Yue, of course, remembered the task he had set for Xiang Shuyu in his emotional state yesterday. He was actually quite happy to hear Xiang Shuyu speak like this. Cupping Xiang Shuyu’s face, Duan Yue praised him with an exaggerated tone: “Heavens, our Shuyu baby is so impressive, you’ve already completed one task! You must keep up the good work!”
He then pressed on the back of Xiang Shuyu’s neck, forcing him to lower his head, and asked: “What reward does baby want?”
Their lips were already close, their breaths intermingled. Duan Yue keenly observed that Xiang Shuyu’s cheeks and ears had begun to turn red. He deliberately asked: “Do you want a kiss?”
Xiang Shuyu’s breathing quickened for a moment, but he turned and pushed Duan Yue away, saying somewhat heartlessly: “No.”
The warm and soft presence in his arms vanished in an instant. Duan Yue was stunned for a moment, only then realizing that Xiang Shuyu was using the very trick he had taught him to deal with him.
Duan Yue gave a cold laugh but wasn’t angry; he just clung back to him eagerly.
Xiang Shuyu curiously flipped through a literary novel on the desk. Duan Yue pressed against his back, hugging his waist and wiggling playfully as he asked again: “Then what does baby want?”
Xiang Shuyu wasn’t the type of person used to asking others for things. He felt a bit embarrassed and could tell Duan Yue truly wanted to give him something, but he really didn’t have anything he wanted and even if he did, he couldn’t say it. So he just said: “I haven’t thought of anything. I’ll tell you later if I think of it.”
Duan Yue was always generous to friends and family. If he said he would give Xiang Shuyu a gift, he truly meant it; it wasn’t just a casual joke.
Usually, when he said he would give something to friends whether close or not no one would refuse; instead, they would all be very happy. Only Xiang Shuyu had rejected him, which made Duan Yue feel a bit slighted.
After all, Xiang Shuyu was his boyfriend. Always being so distant made it seem as if they weren’t that close.
Duan Yue was used to wearing his displeasure on his face, deliberately showing it to Xiang Shuyu. Xiang Shuyu was a bit confused and dazed, unable to figure out the source of Duan Yue’s emotions, so he just gave him a submissive smile and then lifted the insulated container in his hand, saying: “I boiled some chicken soup before I came. It’s still hot.”
He placed the container on the desk. When he unscrewed the lid, a rich aroma instantly spread. Xiang Shuyu didn’t look at Duan Yue; he just knew Duan Yue was a bit unhappy, and when someone was unhappy, you coaxed them. This was his usual way of handling interpersonal relationships.
While it didn’t necessarily work for everyone, for Duan Yue, it was more than enough.
The slight dissatisfaction on Duan Yue’s face vanished instantly. He leaned back against the desk with his arms crossed, watching from the side as Xiang Shuyu took out the soup bowl.
Xiang Shuyu placed the bowl on the desk: “Have you been busy all day? I thought you might not have eaten lunch, and your stomach might feel uncomfortable.”
“Mm…” Duan Yue drew out the sound, acting spoiled. “It really is a bit uncomfortable.”
He sat back in his chair, meeting Xiang Shuyu’s eyes, and asked: “Aren’t you going to feed me?”
Xiang Shuyu’s cheeks felt scalding for a moment, but he also felt quite helpless. He had to pick up the soup bowl and stand before Duan Yue to coax him: “Then I’ll feed you, is it good?”
“It’s good,” Duan Yue was honest and sincere in his praise. “Our Shuyu is so amazing, so clever and skillful. You play the guzheng so beautifully, and your cooking is so delicious.”
He lowered his voice a bit further, adding a deliberate hint: “And you’re very comfortable in bed, too.”
Xiang Shuyu’s face turned even redder. He originally wanted to flee, but then he suddenly remembered the requirement Duan Yue mentioned yesterday. Thus, he summoned the courage to say what he wanted to say: “Do not say such things in a place like this!”
“Then where should I say it?” Duan Yue looked a bit aggrieved. “This is my private office, and there are no outsiders here.”
“But there is surveillance.”
Xiang Shuyu pointed to the surveillance camera overhead with a flashing red light. He had noticed it the moment he walked in. He was a bit worried that Duan Yue would want to do something in the office; with the camera there, he felt like he was being voyeuristically watched.
He didn’t want a camera beaming down on them while he and Duan Yue were doing that kind of thing.
Duan Yue also looked up: “Only I can watch this footage; no one else can see it.”
“No,” Xiang Shuyu said. “In any case, not here.”
“Alright,” Duan Yue didn’t force the issue. He was in a relationship with Xiang Shuyu, not a forced love scenario. Since Xiang Shuyu said he didn’t like it, he had no intention of insisting. “I know you’re shy, goodness, how many times have you said ‘No’ today? Let me count I’ve lost track. Well, for every time you say it from now on, I’ll give you fifty thousand. Is that a bit too little?”
Xiang Shuyu was stunned.
Duan Yue wanted to give him money?
How could he give him money? If he gave him money, then between them.
Wouldn’t their relationship become less pure?
Although Xiang Shuyu’s initial motive was not pure, when he was with Duan Yue, he had tried his best to forget the task Jiang Xiayue had given him, treating it as a chance encounter, a one-night stand, and then letting things take their natural course.
He couldn’t take Duan Yue’s money.
Xiang Shuyu thought so, and he said it: “I don’t want your money.”
“Then what do you want?” Duan Yue asked again. “Aren’t you short on money right now? You’ve been fighting tooth and nail with that Ming-whatever for such a pittance of a contract.”
“It’s not that exaggerated,” Xiang Shuyu said, somewhat helpless. He set down the soup bowl, pulled out a tissue, and leaned over slightly to wipe the corners of Duan Yue’s mouth. ” I just feel it’s not appropriate to take your money.”
“It’s very appropriate to spend money on a boyfriend,” Duan Yue said. “All my friends give their partners a lot of pocket money when they start dating.”
But he could sense Xiang Shuyu’s resistance. He felt Xiang Shuyu was a bit aloof and “pure-minded,” but in his vocabulary, that wasn’t a stigmatized term; it was a compliment.
So he added: “If you don’t want it, then forget it. I’ll have to think of some other reward good baby, lower your head.”
Xiang Shuyu turned red-faced again at the endearment. He was shy, but he obediently leaned down and tilted his head slightly in confusion. “What are you doing?”
Before he could finish, Duan Yue suddenly kissed his lips. While Xiang Shuyu was still processing it, Duan Yue reached out and unbuttoned the top button of his collar.
“Duan Yue!” Xiang Shuyu quickly snapped back to his senses, tightly grabbing Duan Yue’s wrist.
Duan Yue could even feel his fingers trembling incessantly, as if he were truly afraid. A surge of tenderness rose in Duan Yue’s heart. He coaxed softly: “Don’t be afraid. Is my credit with you really that bad? I said I wouldn’t touch you, look at this.”
He took off the jade pendant hanging around his own neck and, in a flash, hung it around Xiang Shuyu’s.
The jade pendant, which had been close to his skin, carried the Alpha’s body heat and pheromones. When it touched Xiang Shuyu’s chest, it felt like fire spreading in an instant.
Xiang Shuyu clutched the pendant in a daze and asked, “Is this for me?”
“Yes,” Duan Yue pulled back to look, nodding in satisfaction. “It suits you well. My mother got this safety jade for me years ago; my brother and I have one each. You must wear it all the time, never take it off.”
Before he could finish, a knock suddenly sounded at the office door. The gentle expression on Duan Yue’s face vanished instantly, and he even looked a bit angry.
He got up to open the door. Xiang Shuyu, sitting behind the desk, curiously tilted his head to look outside, but Duan Yue blocked most of the person’s figure. He only knew the person was as tall as Duan Yue.
“What are you doing?”
“You’re playing with an Omega,” the person said, likely smelling the pheromones. His tone was indifferent. “I thought you were impotent.”
“Duan Lin, if you talk more nonsense, I’ll cut off your roots first.”
“Try me.” Duan Lin didn’t seem to have much desire for conversation. He only reminded him: “It’s just for fun, why look for an Omega? Careful not to make a baby.”
