It’s So Exhausting Having Top-tier Alpha Twins As Exes - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: I Hate You
Xiang Shuyu was dazed for a moment.
He truly had never imagined that Duan Yue would publicly acknowledge him as his boyfriend in such a setting.
He had been overthinking, always feeling that Duan Yue would hide it or find some other excuse to brush it off.
It turned out he had been judging a noble man with a petty heart.
For a moment, Xiang Shuyu felt a slight sense of guilt toward Duan Yue’s frankness, but it was only a little; more than that, it was a frantic heartbeat, as if it were about to disrupt his very soul.
He almost forgot that he still had that “other thing” inside him, and he ignored the prying eyes around him as Duan Yue pulled him to a corner.
Duan Yue settled him on a sofa and brought him small cakes and red wine.
Whatever Duan Yue brought, Xiang Shuyu accepted, obediently stuffing it into his mouth.
Suddenly, Duan Yue pressed down on his wrist.
Xiang Shuyu’s eyelashes trembled. He raised his eyes, dazed and terrified, his eyes brimming with moisture as if he might cry at any moment.
But Duan Yue knew he wouldn’t cry in a setting like this; he would only endure it.
He asked: “Do you feel uncomfortable?”
Xiang Shuyu didn’t know what answer Duan Yue wanted. He was used to pleasing others, so he subconsciously shook his head and lied: “No.”
“And the cake?” Duan Yue tilted his chin toward the small cake in his hand. “Do you like it?”
Xiang Shuyu bit his lower lip. After a long pause, he still nodded.
He could feel Duan Yue’s gaze on him becoming deep, as if trying to see through his body and mind. Xiang Shuyu’s spine went stiff; he couldn’t help but feel nervous. Even the courage to look up at Duan Yue seemed to have been ground away by the man’s probing and displeased gaze.
After a long while, or perhaps not long at all, Duan Yue spoke: “You eat first. Just sit here and don’t move. I have to socialize a bit, I’ll be back soon.”
Xiang Shuyu nodded.
As Duan Yue walked away, he felt both relieved and paradoxically uneasy.
When Duan Yue was in front of him, he would sometimes unintentionally reveal a hint of sternness occasionally hidden in his tone, occasionally lurking in his gaze—but Xiang Shuyu could always accurately detect it. He felt Duan Yue was unpredictable and impossible to read.
People like this, who had spent a long time in high society, were used to others looking up at and speculating about them while they themselves looked down and probed everything. Xiang Shuyu always felt such people were difficult to get along with and feared interacting with them.
Yet, as fate would have it, such a person was now his boyfriend. Xiang Shuyu found it hard to distinguish exactly what his thoughts about Duan Yue were now.
If it were anyone else who had feelings for Duan Yue, being with him would probably make them very happy.
But Xiang Shuyu was not happy.
The mango cake he didn’t like that either.
He was lost in thought and didn’t notice that Duan Yue, standing not far away talking to old classmates, kept his eyes fixed on him.
Duan Yue watched Xiang Shuyu’s vacant face, half-heartedly listening to the Alpha in front of him talk about how a plot of land he recently eyed was doing, and asking if his business needed a partnership.
“Mhm,” Duan Yue forced his attention back, a flash of mischief crossing his eyes as he responded, “It’s a good place. I visited it before. Real estate is all about Feng Shui, and that place has good Feng Shui.”
As he spoke, his hand in his pocket maliciously flipped the switch on the remote control.
In an instant, Xiang Shuyu’s body suddenly went rigid, and he immediately began to tremble slightly.
He panicked, subconsciously clutching his shirt hem, but a sensation like an electric current instantly spread to every part of his body. His ears turned a sudden flush of red; he felt a dryness like an ignited spark that charred his whole body in an instant.
Unconscious gasps were about to escape his lips, but Xiang Shuyu remembered he was in public. He could only bite his teeth hard and press his legs together tightly, trying to maintain his sanity.
However, the stimulating sensation kept changing, like waves crashing over his head, or like vines coiling around him. A sense of shame flooded his mind, yet it brought Xiang Shuyu a trace of eerie pleasure.
Xiang Shuyu was drenched in sweat. Fortunately, before getting out of the car, Duan Yue didn’t want anyone to smell Xiang Shuyu’s pheromones, so he had placed a scent-suppressing patch on the back of his neck, preventing him from releasing pheromones in this uncontrollable state.
But perhaps sensing his physical discomfort, countless eyes still fell upon him. Xiang Shuyu began to feel terror, as if he were about to be drowned and suffocated by those gazes gazes he could no longer distinguish as being well-meaning or malicious.
He curled his body slightly, searching frantically for Duan Yue’s figure in the crowd, and finally, his eyes met Duan Yue’s.
Duan Yue saw his crimson eye-corners and watery eyes. Emotions of plea, resentment, shyness, and fear were all transmitted through his eyes.
Duan Yue thought that Xiang Shuyu’s eyes were truly, truly well-made.
He couldn’t help but feel a sense of pity and love.
“I’ll stop here,” Duan Yue raised his glass to his friends and drained the wine at the bottom. “I’m going to look after my boyfriend.”
Duan Yue knew that many Alphas’ eyes were on Xiang Shuyu.
Originally, he just wanted to mark his territory, but now it seemed the gains didn’t make up for the losses.
Alpha nature is like this: when they encounter a truly desirable partner, no one cares about status, power, or sentiment anymore; they simply become primitive, sexually driven beasts, prying and fighting.
Duan Yue wanted to take Xiang Shuyu away.
He returned to Xiang Shuyu’s side. The Omega was already somewhat delirious because of the object inside him. His neck was covered in fine sweat. When Duan Yue cupped his face to lift it up, his lower lip had been bitten into teeth marks, and his eyes were misty, looking as if they could only hold Duan Yue alone.
“Duan Yue.”
Seeing him, Xiang Shuyu felt like someone who had been drifting on an ocean current for too long and finally grabbed a piece of driftwood. His tone held an irrepressible, aggrieved sob: “Duan Yue, it hurts.”
“I’ve turned it off, baby,” Duan Yue leaned down to hug him, soothingly patting his back. “Come to the restroom with me, I’ll help you take it out, okay?”
Xiang Shuyu’s ears were buzzing; he couldn’t take anything in. He just shook his head, then after a moment, nodded.
Duan Yue supported him, letting most of his body lean against him, and carried him to the restroom, blocking all those curious gazes outside the door.
As for what they were going to do, all these Alphas who were experienced in social scenes knew very well. But no one was bold enough to eavesdrop on Duan Yue just to satisfy their curiosity. So, they could only stand in the hall, feeling restless and distracted, with their attention fixed on the tightly closed restroom door.
Xiang Shuyu leaned against Duan Yue’s shoulder.
He buried his face in the crook of Duan Yue’s neck, his arms climbing over the man’s shoulders. Duan Yue could feel a cold liquid slowly soaking his shoulder.
But Duan Yue didn’t show a hint of disgust or impatience. With his fingertips stained with sticky moisture, he softly coaxed Xiang Shuyu, saying: “It was my fault, okay? Don’t be angry anymore, it’s already out.”
“Shuyu baby,” Duan Yue always liked calling him with such sweet talk, gently patting his back. “There, there, so aggrieved. You’ve cried for so long, your eyes are going to be swollen.”
He pulled Xiang Shuyu away from his shoulder. Even when crying, Xiang Shuyu was quiet, he just shed tears very heavily. Because he wasn’t noisy or disruptive, Duan Yue didn’t feel irritated; instead, looking at his flushed face, it was very easy to harbor other thoughts.
Duan Yue cupped his face, his thumb wiping away the tear stains, brushing over Xiang Shuyu’s slightly swollen eyes, and said: “Your pants are soaked through. Put the outer pants on first, and I’ll take you to a room to wait while I get new ones?”
“Duan Yue,” Xiang Shuyu sobbed, saying softly, “I hate you.”
“Yes, yes, yes,” Duan Yue followed his words. “Hate me if you want. I went too far. Do you want to hit me once to vent?”
Xiang Shuyu didn’t hit him.
At the moment the object was taken out, he had indeed harbored a flicker of hatred, but Duan Yue’s reaction had already told him the truth.
When a relationship is unequal, his hatred in the other person’s eyes was merely acting spoiled.
Xiang Shuyu quickly stopped crying. Duan Yue gave him a temporary mark, calming his restless pheromone fluctuations.
Xiang Shuyu didn’t participate in the rest of the gathering. He was settled in a room where Duan Yue helped him bathe, change clothes, and blow-dry his hair.
Xiang Shuyu lowered his head, staring blankly at his fingers on his knees. Duan Yue’s fingers gently ran through the hair on his forehead, wrapped in warm air, softly rubbing Xiang Shuyu’s scalp as if helping him relax.
Xiang Shuyu felt that Duan Yue’s “hitting with a stick then giving a sweet date” approach was a bit insulting, but he was powerless. He didn’t even have the confidence to speak out words of grievance.
He was wondering what kind of Omega would be a match for a man like Duan Yue, who could endure his malicious tricks and “little interests.”
But no matter what kind of Omega that was, it certainly wasn’t someone like him.
He was used to being honest; he had been a “good child” for twenty-five years. Being by Duan Yue’s side, he couldn’t accept some of Duan Yue’s minor quirks in love and passion, nor could he persuade himself to change.
Xiang Shuyu was lost in thought when he suddenly heard Duan Yue say: “If you didn’t like it, I asked you twice today, why didn’t you refuse?”
Xiang Shuyu snapped back to reality. Duan Yue’s words seemed to pierce his heart. He felt a bit humiliated. He knew he hadn’t learned how to say “no,” and he didn’t even have the chance to defend himself; he could only lower his eyes and remain silent.
Duan Yue pinched his chin, forcing him to lift his face. “If you don’t like mango cake, why didn’t you refuse that either?”
“I…” Being questioned, Xiang Shuyu felt like crying again, his voice nasal. “I was afraid you’d be unhappy.”
“Why would I be unhappy?” Duan Yue asked again. “Just because you’re worried about someone else being unhappy, you can accept everything you dislike? If one day I wanted to send you to socialize, to make you sleep in another Alpha’s bed, would you also say you’re afraid I’d be unhappy or angry and then agree to it?”
Xiang Shuyu’s face instantly turned deathly pale. He wanted to deny it, but then he remembered he really was that kind of person.
Cowardly, pleasing.
Jiang Xiayue told him to seduce Duan Yue, and he really came.
Xiang Shuyu’s silent weeping placed the answer glaringly in front of Duan Yue. For a moment, Duan Yue actually felt angry.
Because of Xiang Shuyu’s unconditional tolerance and compliance.
“Listen well, Xiang Shuyu,” Duan Yue said on impulse. “I don’t like being with someone who only knows how to please. If you want to continue our relationship, then starting from today, you must say ‘No’ ten times every day. Otherwise, I’ll break up with you immediately.”
