Chapter 10: Take the Contraceptive
Duan Yue had never sought anyone out before. In his social circle, Alphas and Omegas were never in short supply, but Duan Yue never allowed a single person to approach him with those kinds of intentions.
With Xiang Shuyu, it was his first time. Because of Xiang Shuyu, it felt as though after twenty-seven years of asceticism, he finally understood the kind of pleasure that intimacy could bring.
He was green when he kissed Xiang Shuyu, moving from his brows and eyes to his lips, then down to his Adam’s apple and collarbone. He loved gripping Xiang Shuyu’s slender waist, feeling the body beneath his palms trembling slightly and continuously, responding to his every move.
It was as if they were born to be this compatible.
Even though Duan Yue knew that his pheromone compatibility with Xiang Shuyu wasn’t actually that high.
Duan Yue owned a house in the Southern District. Sometimes, when his twin brother Duan Lin returned, the two would occasionally argue. When they fought and didn’t want to see each other, they would each find their own place to stay.
Therefore, the villa in the Southern District was Duan Yue’s private property; usually, no second person ever came there.
Duan Yue carried Xiang Shuyu out of the car. By then, Xiang Shuyu had been kissed into a state of exhaustion his cheeks were flushed, his legs were weak, and his mind was hazy.
Duan Yue carried him home, closed the door, placed him on the shoe cabinet in the entryway, and continued to kiss him.
Xiang Shuyu’s lips were bitten until they were red and swollen. He couldn’t quite withstand Duan Yue’s suffocating kisses but lacked the strength to stop them, only able to let out a few broken sounds from his mouth.
Like the meowing of a kitten acting spoiled.
To an Alpha currently releasing pheromones and desire, Xiang Shuyu’s resistance acted like a catalyst of “refusal as invitation.” Duan Yue picked Xiang Shuyu up from the shoe cabinet again, carrying him around like a beautiful ball-jointed doll.
He stripped Xiang Shuyu piece by piece. Xiang Shuyu’s skin was too fair; placed against the dark mattress, it seemed to glow, making Duan Yue want to leave marks on that flawless white body.
If he thought it, he did it. He bit Xiang Shuyu’s collarbone, listening to his uncontrollable soft moans. Driven by pheromones, any kind of touch made Xiang Shuyu act as if he had skin hunger, becoming obsessed with caresses and kisses, intoxicated by the contact of skin against skin.
Xiang Shuyu struggled and convulsed involuntarily. He clung to Duan Yue’s neck and shoulders, hugging him tightly, drawing the sense of security he craved from the only Alpha before him.
Duan Yue stroked his back and said softly, “Relax a bit, don’t be nervous.”
“Look at how pitiful our Shuyu is,” Duan Yue pinched his chin, his thumb rubbing it flirtatiously. “Why is your face covered in tears… these injuries are such an eyesore. I’ll apply medicine for you later.”
He kissed Xiang Shuyu again. Xiang Shuyu no longer knew how to resist, only able to slightly part his lips in a silent, passive invitation.
Duan Yue asked in his ear again, “I’m helping you with the medicine, what are you supposed to say?”
He observed Xiang Shuyu’s expression. Those beautiful amber eyes were filled with mist, his lashes wet and trembling. When they locked eyes, Duan Yue could see a complete reflection of himself—as if Duan Yue was the only one in Xiang Shuyu’s heart.
This thought brought Duan Yue a flicker of happiness.
Xiang Shuyu was dazed for a moment, a thin white mist escaping his lips with his breath. He murmured, “Thank you…”
“Wrong,” Duan Yue pinched the back of his knee. “That’s the wrong answer, baby. You need to think of a new one.”
Xiang Shuyu started crying again. He gripped the pillow, wanting to flee, only to be grabbed by the legs and dragged back.
Xiang Shuyu’s voice trembled as he stuttered, “Thank you… Husband…”
“So obedient,” Duan Yue kissed his eyes and teardrops with affection. “So smart, how can there be such an amazing baby.”
Sweet words came easily to him in bed. Even though Xiang Shuyu could hardly hear what he was saying, he could capture some intermittent fragments of pillow talk following the rhythm of the movements. Consequently, his cheeks remained red, and his earlobes looked like they were about to bleed.
He blocked his lips with the back of his hand, trying to stop himself from making strange sounds. Eventually, he lost consciousness, turning into a swaying figure driven by instinct—a flower waiting to bloom, opening up for the person who moved his heart.
Duan Yue propped himself up on his elbow beside Xiang Shuyu, applying medicine to the scratches on his face.
Xiang Shuyu was fast asleep. There were still traces of fatigue and tears under his eyes, but his sleeping face was much more relaxed, holding more security than when he had fallen asleep the night before.
Duan Yue’s finger, stained with ointment, brushed over the two rather savage scratches on Xiang Shuyu’s face. The skin under his fingertip was delicate. Duan Yue’s mind wandered Jiang Xiayue really had the heart to do this; such an obedient and beautiful son, yet she could bring herself to strike him.
If he were in the Duan family, with Duan’s mother’s obsession with beauty, she would probably spoil Xiang Shuyu to the heavens.
When Duan Yue thought of this, he snapped back to reality, pushing these impossible fantasies to the back of his mind.
Afterward, he tucked Xiang Shuyu in, got up, and went out to the balcony to make a phone call.
He still had work to do.
The next day was a sunny day.
The bedroom windows didn’t have heavy curtains drawn; only the white sheer lining had been closed the night before. Sunlight filtered through the curtains, falling onto Xiang Shuyu’s face.
Xiang Shuyu’s breathing quickened slightly as he slowly woke up, opening his eyes with great exhaustion.
Something felt heavy.
He thought.
He waited a moment longer before realizing it was Duan Yue lying on top of him, holding him in his arms.
Xiang Shuyu had vaguely heard him on the phone with someone last night, seemingly talking about business.
Working so late, he must be very tired now.
Xiang Shuyu struggled to reach out and grab his phone from the nightstand.
There were many messages on the screen. It was overwhelming, but he couldn’t ignore them, so he opened them one by one.
At the very top was a message from his manager, Gu Yi, asking: “Has your luck turned, Xiang Shuyu? A company’s game project is looking for a long-term collaboration with you.”
Xiang Shuyu was dazed for a moment.
Duan Yue was truly generous to a boyfriend; if he said he would give something, it reached the other person’s hands immediately.
If it were any other Omega, perhaps they would do as Jiang Xiayue hoped find every way to marry Duan Yue and become his one and only.
Xiang Shuyu had to admit, after only two or three days with Duan Yue, he couldn’t stop his heart from fluttering for him.
Gu Yi was still telling him about the contract terms. Xiang Shuyu responded occasionally, his mind elsewhere.
Actually, he hadn’t been happy working under Gu Yi for years. Gu Yi favored Ming Xiu and skewed resources toward him. Many great opportunities were given to Ming Xiu first. Even when Xiang Shuyu managed to secure a collaboration with difficulty, Ming Xiu would find out and though not necessarily wanting it—would exaggerate things to Gu Yi until the contract was snatched away.
Xiang Shuyu worried he would resort to his old tricks again, then realized the contract was secured by Duan Yue. Gu Yi probably didn’t have the guts to switch people on the client.
But he didn’t want to keep working under Gu Yi anymore.
Xiang Shuyu weighed his words, thinking about how to bring up the termination of his contract.
He struggled to crawl out from under Duan Yue without waking him. Enduring the soreness of his body, he threw on some clothes, left the room, and went downstairs.
There was some food in the kitchen fridge; it looked fresh, as if it had been delivered last night.
Xiang Shuyu stared blankly for a while, not even hearing what Gu Yi was saying. He just took out the ingredients, thinking he could make breakfast for Duan Yue.
Consider it compensation for taking him in and helping him find work.
“Sister Gu Yi,” Xiang Shuyu felt his head wasn’t very clear right now. Bringing up the contract termination now might result in Gu Yi counter-claiming for a termination fee. “I know. I’ll go to you later to get the contract.”
He hung up and focused back on the ingredients.
What should I make? Xiang Shuyu pondered.
In the past, he had followed Jiang Xiayue’s orders to try and learn Duan Yue’s preferences, but Duan Yue was a very private person. His personal likes were never made public. Xiang Shuyu had heard some “unofficial history” from friends’ casual observations at parties, but none of it was guaranteed to be true.
Xiang Shuyu thought back and forth, remembering Ji Yeran mentioning that Duan Yue liked to sleep in. He was always in a rush for work and often skipped breakfast. Sometimes meetings ran so long he missed lunch too, so his stomach wasn’t great.
So, Xiang Shuyu cracked two eggs into a bowl and made noodles for Duan Yue.
He wasn’t used to the kitchenware in Duan Yue’s house. Some were fully automatic; he had seen them before, but with limited funds, he never had them at home. Using them for the first time made him a bit clumsy.
Xiang Shuyu bustled about frantically for a while, a bit of sweat appearing on his forehead, and finally got the noodles into the pot.
Turning around, he saw Duan Yue leaning against the doorway with his arms crossed, watching him for who knows how long.
In an instant, Xiang Shuyu’s face turned bright red. He tugged at his sleeve uncomfortably: “Duan Yue, you’re awake.”
“There’s a ‘Field Snail Fairy’ (humble/helpful person) in the house,” Duan Yue pulled him close and pinched his chin for a kiss. “How could I stay asleep?”
The pink hue on Xiang Shuyu’s cheeks began to spread rapidly, reaching his ears. He was shy and restless, pushing against Duan Yue’s chest. “I have to watch the pot, or the noodles will stick to the bottom.”
Fortunately, Duan Yue didn’t make things difficult for him and let go, giving him his freedom.
Xiang Shuyu didn’t dare look at Duan Yue much. Duan Yue wasn’t even wearing a shirt. He exercised regularly, and his physique was just right. Xiang Shuyu felt his heart racing just by looking twice. He was afraid of falling too deep; if they had to part in the future, he wouldn’t be able to leave in one piece.
So, Xiang Shuyu turned his back, trying to focus on the noodles.
But Duan Yue still clung to him, hugging his slender waist from behind, burying his head in his neck, murmuring: “Smells so good. Our baby is so amazing, so good at cooking.”
“Duan Yue!” Xiang Shuyu was embarrassed by his words. He also felt the Alpha’s embrace was too tight and too hot; it always put a lot of pressure on him. “Don’t say that, it’s an exaggeration.”
Like coaxing a local kindergarten kid.
He felt Duan Yue kissing his neck again. Since they confirmed their relationship, as long as they were alone, Duan Yue would kiss him from time to time.
He could always find various places to kiss.
The noodles were done. Xiang Shuyu had to scoop them out, but having a “large object” hanging off him was inconvenient. He urged, “Duan Yue, let go a bit, you’re holding too tight.”
As he spoke, he let out a sharp, soft intake of breath.
Duan Yue bit the gland on the back of his neck once but it was just a bite, nothing more.
He finally mercifully let Xiang Shuyu go and stood to the side, watching Xiang Shuyu busy himself, putting the noodles and fried eggs into bowls and bringing them to the table.
Duan Yue asked, “You’re not eating?”
“I’ll eat something simple after you go to work,” Xiang Shuyu smiled at him. “I have to go find my manager later to sign the contract.”
“Oh, the contract for that game project?” Duan Yue picked up his chopsticks.
Xiang Shuyu nodded. “Thank you. I thought it might take a while.”
Duan Yue didn’t think much of it. “It only took one phone call. Nothing to thank me for.”
Xiang Shuyu froze, then lowered his eyes and bit his lip.
True. The contract he wanted, the problem he wanted solved for someone like Duan Yue, it was just a matter of making a phone call.
“Go make your food,” Duan Yue pointed to the medicine box on the table, reminding him, “After you eat, take the contraceptive.”
