It Turned Out She Wasn't a Favored Concubine - Episode 90
Elliot said he didn’t know the true name of the sorcerer. The reason the sorcerer took over Parsen’s body was shocking—Parsen was the younger brother of the king of the Kingdom of Jaren.
Despite being royalty, Parsen had studied medicine from a young age and wandered across the continent, leading a rather unusual life. Thanks to that, he managed to keep his body until his thirties. But on the day he returned to the royal palace for his niece Princess Marian’s birthday, his body was finally taken.
Princess Marian’s birthday banquet was a celebration for the sorcerers. On that day, the sorcerers devoured the bodies of all the royal family members—except for Marian. The reason she was spared was due to their greed.
Princess Marian was born with a natural ability to sense Motus. Tragically, she could even detect when those around her were being replaced by sorcerers. Because all the sorcerers coveted her body, they needed time to negotiate their desires. Marian survived as a kind of living deadline, but she didn’t simply tremble in fear within the isolated palace. Instead, she used the sorcerers’ rivalry to learn about Motus and tried to break the brainwashing of the children destined to become the next vessels.
When Elliot first responded to her words, Princess Marian smiled for the first time. Seeing that smile, Elliot resolved to save her. The war with the Empire was his last chance.
“I’ve staked everything on you. To wipe out the sorcerers who have taken over the Kingdom of Jaren, I need your help.”
Elliot bowed his head. The boy’s story ended. If what Elliot said was true, it explained both the isolationist nature of Jaren and the Empire’s abnormal defeat. But it was hard to believe—an explanation that defied common sense.
The decision was up to Giscal. The outcome of the war, and perhaps the fate of the Kingdom of Jaren—or even the continent—depended on his judgment.
But Giscal didn’t hesitate.
“I’ll stake everything on you too. For the future.”
Once resolved, action followed swiftly. First, Elliot exchanged bodies with Parsen. It took some time for the soul to transfer through the soul-infused transparent stone. Awakening in Parsen’s body, Elliot moved awkwardly, unfamiliar with the sensation.
“It certainly feels different than before.”
Giscal examined Parsen’s body and asked, “Are you really Elliot?”
“Yes. I’ve become just as monstrous as the sorcerers.”
“But you didn’t steal someone’s body. You can return to your original body once this is over.”
“Still, the fact that Motus has seeped into my soul won’t change.”
Elliot, now in Parsen’s body, gave a bitter smile. His original body was already restrained. The sorcerer was to remain asleep, unaware, until everything was over.
“What if he wakes up and tries teleportation?”
“I’ll set up a barrier to block the sorcerers’ teleportation. Don’t worry.”
“I’ve heard those barriers are quite draining. Can’t you get help from another Motus artisan in the army?”
“No. Ordinary barriers are easily broken by sorcerers. We need a special one.”
Elliot completed the barrier without anyone’s help and immediately moved on to the next phase.
The plan for Elliot to lure the sorcerers and Giscal to eliminate them with elite troops was executed flawlessly. The sorcerers, complacent after easily seizing the kingdom, were caught off guard. Giscal’s elite soldiers were seasoned warriors.
The sorcerers, who had prolonged their lives for centuries by stealing bodies, died in vain.
“Now we just need to deal with the sorcerers who took royal bodies. With the military leadership gone, the Jaren army is nothing but a rabble. Commander, please lead the army to the palace. I’ll go ahead.”
Under Giscal’s command, the Imperial army crushed the Jaren forces. Leaderless, the Jaren army was weak, and the Imperial army was strong.
They broke through an army five times their size and marched straight to the capital. There, they were greeted by Princess Marian in a white dress.
With a blank expression, she said, “His Majesty took responsibility for the war and ended his own life.”
All the royals except Marian had taken poison and died. Giscal suspected the sorcerers had escaped into other bodies, but Elliot confirmed their annihilation.
“Then what about Princess Marian? Is she a sorcerer?”
“Absolutely not. She knows nothing. Please respect her wishes.”
Elliot firmly denied it and asked Giscal to protect her. He didn’t say she had awakened him. He didn’t say he had betrayed his master to save her.
That was his secret.
Giscal occupied the Kingdom of Jaren. The Empire, thrilled by the unexpected success, officially appointed Giscal as Supreme Commander and entrusted him with postwar duties. Following Marian’s wishes, Giscal placed a distant royal relative on the throne and decided to take the princess to the Empire.
It seemed the secret plan devised by Giscal and Elliot had succeeded. But the day after occupying the palace, Elliot discovered something strange—the transparent stone crafted with soul magic had vanished.
Elliot immediately sought out Parsen. The stone, carefully stored, couldn’t have disappeared without interference. Bound within the teleportation-blocking barrier, Parsen raised his chin upon seeing Elliot.
“I never thought you’d bare your fangs at us. The brainwashing should’ve been perfect.”
Elliot stared at the sorcerer and said, “I expected a stronger reaction. Are you accepting death?”
Parsen shrugged. “Not really. I’ve lived so long it doesn’t feel real. Even if it’s my death. I’m just sad I won’t get to see the fun anymore.”
“Fun?”
“Yeah. Swapping human bodies and watching them. It was quite the entertainment.”
Elliot clenched his fist.
“You mean you used soul magic not just to steal bodies, but for amusement?”
“Hahaha, of course. Watching people panic without knowing anything was hilarious. Cleaning up the toys afterward was annoying, though.”
“You people are truly…”
Parsen smirked at Elliot’s trembling rage.
“So, why are you here? Is today the day I die?”
“Yes, I’ll kill you. But I have a question. The transparent stone we hid in our secret space is gone.”
Parsen burst into laughter.
“Oh, that woman. She must’ve stolen it well.”
“You know something, don’t you?”
“Yeah. While you were distracted, a woman named Louie came snooping. She asked about the stone, and I kindly answered. Too bad she couldn’t break the barrier.”
“What were you thinking?”
“It’s the only way I could mess with you one last time before dying. Good luck.”
Elliot nearly kicked Parsen but restrained himself—not because it was his own body, but because it would’ve been a waste of time.
If left unchecked, Louie could create another monster. They had to find out her intentions quickly. Then Giscal’s voice rang out.
“Louie is a maid at my estate. I have a guess how she’ll use the stone.”
Giscal patted Elliot’s shoulder and drew his sword toward Parsen.
“I already owe Louie a lot. Things just got complicated. Did you lure her?”
“How could I, being restrained? She approached me first. She overheard your conversation and asked if the stone could awaken someone unconscious.”
Giscal groaned softly. Elliot asked, “Did you tell her everything about the stone?”
Parsen chuckled alone.
“No, of course not. I mixed in some lies. It’ll be quite the spectacle.”
Elliot gritted his teeth.
“You mock people even at the end.”
“Hahaha, the most fun I’ve had in this long life was playing with people.”
“You’re a vile monster! Just being in your body is unbearable!”
Elliot rarely showed emotion. Parsen looked at him with interest, then narrowed his eyes.
“Oh? I just had a great idea. I’ve been stupid. There’s a perfect way to torment you.”
Parsen shook his body and suddenly slammed his head into the large iron spike securing the chains on both sides. It happened too fast to stop. He screamed in pain and slammed his head again. Parsen—Elliot’s original small body—was soaked in blood.
“No…”
Giscal realized first and grabbed Parsen’s shoulder, but it was too late. Parsen, dying, mocked Elliot.
“Enjoy that old body. As the monster you hate…”
Parsen’s breath ceased. Giscal tried to save him, but the small body quickly grew cold. In the silence, Elliot spoke first.
“First, we must find the maid Louie.”
“You’re right.”
Giscal nodded, impressed by Elliot’s composure. He gently covered the small body with his cloak.
“It’s not for the sorcerer.”
“I know.”
They quickly organized the situation and headed to the Edelheit estate—secretly.
With the sorcerer’s body, Elliot could teleport anywhere. Though days had passed, he believed it wasn’t too late. He hoped to resolve everything before Louie reached the Empire. But at the Edelheit estate, they were met with Louie’s tear-streaked face and two lifeless bodies.
