It Seems Like My Senior Seems to Like Me - Chapter 49
Having just started dating, the two of them were immersed in a fiery period of love, wanting to stick together no matter what.
Sometimes, even doing nothing, just sitting next to Pei Suye made Ye Wanjia feel completely satisfied. She would glance at her book, then at Pei Suye, letting her eyes slowly sweep over his calm face, feeling content.
And then, she would secretly smile foolishly.
Once, during an animal anatomy theory class, Ye Wanjia even secretly followed him, sitting in the corner with Pei Suye. Outwardly, it looked like she was auditing the class, but in reality, she was secretly holding his hand under the desk.
The professor teaching the class specialized in feline anatomy. Dressed neatly in a brown suit, even past fifty, he still exuded an academic elegance.
“Several students did very well on the last assignment; let’s share with the class,”
Professor Guo connected his laptop to the projector and continued:
“What impressed me most were Pei Suye and Xu Qian. Their answers to the discussion questions were very thoughtful.”
Before opening the Word file of the assignment, he noticed a new email notification from the class representative, Du Qing. Professor Guo thought a student had forgotten to submit the assignment and asked Du Qing to submit it on their behalf. Without hesitation, he opened the email.
The contents, however, were shocking.
Everyone knew that Du Qing liked Pei Suye. But what most people also knew was that Pei Suye was happily dating a freshman, Ye Wanjia.
So no one expected Du Qing to write such an email:
*”Dear Professor Guo,
Hello. Recently, I noticed that a student not from our class has been attending our lectures. I didn’t pay attention at first, but other students mentioned it. It seems she is Pei Suye’s girlfriend, Ye Wanjia. Although she is in our major, she is still a freshman. This course is for third-year students, and a freshman may not understand it. Many believe her attendance is unnecessary, wastes resources, and could disrupt others’ learning.
In short, she has affected the class. Please handle this. Thank you!”*
Professor Guo, just over fifty, squinted his aging eyes and put on reading glasses to enlarge the text. Meanwhile, the young students in the classroom had already read the email and began murmuring among themselves.
“Wait, the little freshman audited class? How come I didn’t know?”
“She came last time too, but they always sit in the back row. I even forgot about them.”
“What’s with Du Qing sending an email? So shady!”
“What does she mean ‘I didn’t notice, but others mentioned it’? Clearly, she just wanted to target someone.”
“Seriously, she just audited the class quietly, didn’t talk or disturb anyone. How is that affecting anyone? Why didn’t she complain about those who sleep or play on their phones?”
“Du Qing usually seems gentle, but secretly she’s like this… you can’t judge a book by its cover.”
“Good thing Pei Suye isn’t with her; otherwise, who knows what she’d do!”
Sitting at the wall, Du Qing didn’t dare look up, gripping her textbook tightly, tearing the cover bit by bit.
At the back, Pei Suye, the center of attention, raised a hand to Professor Guo and slowly stood up:
“Professor Guo, regarding this matter, I apologize if it disrupted your class. But Wanjia and I are attentive in class and have not deliberately disturbed anyone.”
After he spoke, Ye Wanjia also stood up, as if ready to defend him against a thousand enemies.
“Professor Guo, don’t blame her. I wanted to come with him. Even though I’m a freshman, I take notes seriously and am not here to play. If it disrupts your class, I’m sorry. If you prefer, I can wait outside next time.”
Her voice trembled slightly from nervousness as she clutched her clothes, her grape-like eyes looking at the podium with determined focus. Luckily, her experience hosting the “Chinese Hero” competition helped her speak clearly.
Pei Suye thought for a moment and felt soft inside. She looked like a little rabbit holding a carrot, earnestly explaining: “I only nibbled a little. If you don’t like it, I won’t next time.”
Professor Guo chuckled twice and asked kindly, “You said you took notes in class?”
Ye Wanjia nodded firmly: “Yes.”
Then she glanced at Pei Suye, silently asking for help—what if she couldn’t answer a question?
Before he could reassure her, Professor Guo asked:
“Then tell me, what is the serosa, and what is the outer membrane?”
Her heart skipped a beat. She looked at Pei Suye, who gestured toward her notebook.
She suddenly remembered—yes, she had taken notes last class.
She quickly flipped back and found the definitions:
- Serosa: A layer of mesothelium covering the outer membrane surface.
- Outer membrane: In eukaryotic cells, the outer layer of the lipid bilayer surrounding organelles like chloroplasts, mitochondria, or nuclei. In prokaryotic cells, it refers to the peptide layer of the Gram-negative bacterial cell wall.
Professor Guo nodded approvingly: “Yes, you did take notes.”
The tension in Ye Wanjia’s chest eased, and she exhaled deeply: “It’s only right to pay attention in class.”
“Good, you may sit down.”
“There’s one more thing,” Professor Guo continued.
“What?”
“You said Pei Suye’s assignment was excellent and should be presented. We haven’t done that yet.”
“Haha!” Professor Guo shook his head, smiling. “Looks like you’re worried about your girlfriend even while in class?”
He reopened Pei Suye’s assignment file, letting both of them sit first. Then, almost ceremoniously:
“My classroom welcomes all students. Whether you come sincerely to learn or out of curiosity, it’s all an opportunity to engage with new knowledge.”
The class resumed, and Du Qing, who tried to interfere, sat with a dark face, enduring the watchful eyes of everyone.
Soon it was the end of May, a day when couples nationwide celebrated—May 20th.
It also happened to be Ye Wanjia’s birthday.
“Wanjia! Wanjia!” Early in the morning, Wei Xiaoxiao clung to the window like a gecko, excitement all over her face. “The president is waiting downstairs! With a huge bouquet of roses!”
Still in her pajamas, Ye Wanjia rushed downstairs.
Sure enough, Pei Suye was there. His bicycle parked by the roadside, he sat sideways on the saddle, wearing a vertically striped shirt and a beige long skirt, holding a large bouquet of bright red roses.
As if by tacit understanding, she looked up, eyes shining, toward the window of Room 617 where Wei Xiaoxiao peeked out, and smiled.
It was a weekend. Since only she and Wei Xiaoxiao were in the dorm, Ye Wanjia didn’t shout loudly to avoid disturbing others, but called downstairs:
“Why are you here so early?”
Pei Suye’s voice was gentle: “I wanted to get the flowers early.”
“Liar, you came over an hour early.”
“Hehe… you caught me.”
“Confess truthfully!”
“Today’s your birthday; I wanted to pick you up early.”
“Then… wait a moment. I haven’t put on makeup yet.”
“Okay.”
“Or… you could come up and wait? Only Xiaoxiao and I are here.”
“No, I’ll wait below.”
“Why?”
“I want to enjoy the feeling of opening the city gate to welcome my princess.”
Though a bit cheesy, Pei Suye said it sincerely, his eyes fixed on her, tender and lingering, making Ye Wanjia completely fall into the moment.
“Okay, I’ll be quick,” she said.
After hanging up, she ran to the wardrobe for her outfit but caught sight of Wei Xiaoxiao holding her face in both hands, eyes sparkling.
“What are you doing?” Ye Wanjia asked, startled.
Wei Xiaoxiao’s face was full of anticipation: “It’s so touching! Like in a classic novel, a rich young lady secretly meeting her lover on the balcony, looking out across the estate, full of love!”
