It Seems Like My Senior Seems to Like Me - Chapter 45
The first date happened on the weekend of the week they officially started dating. Pei Suye had bought two movie tickets.
It was for the comeback film of the sexy actress Yan Zhaoxi—“Camellias in Bloom.”
On the day of the date, Ye Wanjia felt a little nervous.
Although in the past few days they had been going to the cafeteria together, returning to the dorm from the student council office in the evenings, and spending a few hours together every day, it had all been on campus.
A date, however, meant going out together, from daytime into evening—not for classes or student council duties, but purely for enjoyment, making time that belonged just to them.
To make the date perfect, Ye Wanjia used her recent tutoring earnings to buy a set of makeup: foundation, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow palette, eyeliner, lipstick—the basics.
“Tsk, you’re just lucky your skin’s good,” Wei Xiaoxiao said as she applied her own makeup in front of the mirror, preparing for her and Jiang Shiyu’s first date. “Unlike me, I have spots, so I need concealer.”
As she said, Ye Wanjia’s skin was fair and even-toned, without dullness or blemishes. Even a recent pimple had disappeared without leaving a trace.
“Maybe it’s because I’ve been exercising recently, my skin has improved,” Ye Wanjia said.
Wei Xiaoxiao, unrelenting, teased, “Yeah right, that’s just the effect of dating. Hormones are normalizing. Honestly.”
Pausing with the makeup sponge in hand, she leaned closer to Ye Wanjia and whispered, “So… dating the council president—how does it feel?”
Ye Wanjia instinctively pressed her lips together, a blush crossing her eyes. “It’s really nice. She cares about me a lot. She comes to pick me up outside the dorm every day, we have breakfast together. Sometimes the student council has meetings, and as soon as she’s done, she comes to find me.”
Wei Xiaoxiao’s expression remained neutral. “And that moves you?”
“Of course! Why not?”
Turning around to face her, Wei Xiaoxiao’s voice carried a note of experienced advice: “Coming to breakfast and checking on you after a meeting? That’s exactly what a girlfriend should do. Listen, when you’re dating, don’t get moved so easily. Otherwise, she’ll do small things and expect you to be satisfied, and over time she’ll get distant. You have to be the one flying the kite, not the kite itself.”
There was some truth in that advice—rational thinking every girl in love should have. Yet Ye Wanjia, freshly caught in the whirlpool of love, couldn’t absorb it.
“Oh, I’m not like that. I don’t ask for much. If she’s just a little nice to me, I’m happy enough.”
At that moment, Wei Xiaoxiao’s phone buzzed with a message from Jiang Shiyu.
“What’s up?” Ye Wanjia asked.
Wei Xiaoxiao cheekily replied to the message, then returned to her normal expression. “Xiaoyu saved me a seat. We’re going to the library together tomorrow.”
Ye Wanjia’s eyes went wide. “That expression… you look like you’re touched.”
Wei Xiaoxiao admitted openly, “Yeah, of course. Xiaoyu never helps anyone proactively, but she saved me a seat.”
Ye Wanjia shot back, “Just now you were telling me not to get moved so easily and to be the kite…”
Wei Xiaoxiao’s double standard was exposed. She didn’t mind—her favoritism toward Jiang Shiyu wasn’t new. She decided to adopt a new life motto:
“What’s wrong with being the kite? Flying high, seeing far, free as can be!”
Then, fearing Ye Wanjia might scold her, she quickly changed the subject. “Your eyebrows are off. Come here, I’ll fix them.”
That worked. Ye Wanjia, extremely focused on her first date, paid extra attention to every strand of hair.
With Wei Xiaoxiao’s help, Ye Wanjia completed a full face of makeup.
Her trimmed brows retained the natural start, with the arches filled in as slender curves. Her almond-shaped eyes appeared large and bright, with earthy eyeshadow adding a touch of natural charm. A peach-colored lipstick, light and translucent, combined with her fair skin, made her lips appear plump and dewy.
“Oh my god, so beautiful!”
Wei Xiaoxiao held her cheeks, marveling like a proud mother for the hundredth time. “Wanjia, you should just keep this makeup on forever. Walk down Huaxi Road, and you’ll have scouts giving you business cards!”
Standing in front of the mirror, Ye Wanjia bit her lip. She did look prettier than usual, but because she wasn’t used to wearing makeup, it still felt a little strange. Moreover—
“But… do you think… she’ll think I’m trying too hard?”
“No way!” Wei Xiaoxiao strongly corrected. “She’ll be happy you put effort into the date. It shows you care about your first date. And trust me, she definitely put effort into her own appearance too!”
Then, taking a small shawl from the wardrobe, she said, “Here, wear this. It goes perfectly with your dress.”
Pei Suye had arrived 20 minutes early, sitting on a bench under a phoenix tree, occasionally glancing at the gently swaying leaves in the sunlight. Hearing footsteps, she looked toward the open doorway.
She saw her girl hurrying over.
Ye Wanjia wore the dress Pei Suye had given her, a light dusky pink. Over it was a beige short shawl. The dress reached her calves, the hem lightly fluttering in the wind. Her white sneakers were pristine, giving her an overall lively, fresh look.
“Miss Suye, sorry to keep you waiting.”
It was her first time doing her own makeup, and Ye Wanjia spoke shyly, tilting her head slightly.
Pei Suye’s gaze softened as she took in the sight of the flower-patterned headband in Ye Wanjia’s hair. Her long waist-length hair fell softly over her shoulders.
“You did your own makeup?” she asked.
Ye Wanjia nodded slowly. “Yes… not very skilled yet. Xiaoxiao helped a little.”
Pei Suye bent her knees slightly to meet her gaze at the same level. “Let me see?”
So gentle, not forcing her chin up, just requesting.
Ye Wanjia quickly turned away. “Ah, I’m a beginner… the sides aren’t even, what are you looking at?”
Pei Suye pretended to sigh heavily. “Sigh… we’ve only been together a short time, and already the relationship’s fading? Looks like I’m past my prime, losing favor.”
This was a tactic Xu Qian often used on her—she hadn’t expected to use it to tease little Ye one day.
Sure enough, Ye Wanjia, both embarrassed and flustered, looked up and clumsily scolded her. “Ah, you, what are you saying!”
Their eyes met, and all they saw was warmth.
Pei Suye leaned closer, their noses just millimeters apart, her gaze alluring. “You look so good… why won’t you let me see?”
The swaying phoenix leaves and the chirping cicadas seemed to awaken a deep-seated confidence in Ye Wanjia that had long been dormant.
Her beautiful eyes flickered as she pressed her lips together, cautiously asking, “Really? You really think I look good?”
“Of course,” Pei Suye said patiently. “Xiaoye, be more confident. You’re beautiful, talented, and…”
“And what?”
Slowing her speech, Pei Suye said, “You’re worth being liked.”
It was obvious to anyone that Ye Wanjia lacked confidence. Some people ignored it, some criticized it, but Pei Suye chose to tell her slowly and carefully: you really are wonderful.
