It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 5
“My name is Clarissa of the Meriam family.”
“!! Ah, of the Marquess Meriam household. No wonder you’re overflowing with elegance. Allow me to thank you once more. Thank you, Lady Clarissa.”
The young man smiled softly, his previously stern expression gone as if it were a lie. His face was so beautiful that I found myself staring at him without thinking.
But saying I have elegance is too much of a compliment, even as flattery. Even now, I’m in this disgraceful state with my bangs hiding my ugly eyes.
“No, please don’t worry about it. I’m waiting for someone, so I should be going now.”
“Ah, my apologies. I was holding you back.”
The young man hesitantly released his grip on my arm. I bowed and tried to return to the venue once more.
“This might be meddling,”
Just as I was about to start walking, the young man’s voice rang out. I turned back to look at him.
“But why don’t you try putting your bangs up? You have such beautifully colored red eyes. It’s a waste to hide them, isn’t it?”
He said this with a cheerful smile.
I instinctively covered my eyes with my hand. I thought I had hidden them with my hair, but he had seen those ugly eyes after all.
“That’s right, as a token of my gratitude, I’ll give you a hair ornament. It would surely match your silver hair. Ah, Lady Clarissa!?”
I didn’t wait for the young man to finish speaking before running off at full speed.
I hate this. Having people see my eyes. Lord Ryan always told me that my eyes are stagnant like blood and make people uncomfortable, so I should never show them to anyone.
Calling them a beautiful color. Was that person making fun of me?
I returned to the venue still shaken. I was relieved that even he didn’t follow me into the venue itself.
I looked around the venue searching for Lord Ryan. Quite some time had passed, so Lord Ryan might be angry.
“Clarissa! Where have you been!?”
Someone grabbed my shoulder from behind, and when I turned around, Lord Ryan was there. As I expected, Lord Ryan had his eyebrows raised and was making an irritated face.
“My apologies. I wanted to get some fresh air outside.”
“I told you to wait there, didn’t I? You can’t even manage to simply wait somewhere – you’re truly a hopeless woman.”
Lord Ryan spat out the words. All I could do was apologize.
