It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 18
“You’re absolutely beautiful, Clarissa! Far more than I imagined! Your natural appearance was lovely, but you in this dazzling attire are truly stunning.”
“Huh…?”
Prince Lucas is gazing at me with dreamy, narrowed eyes.
I’m filled with confusion, thinking this can’t be right. My true face should be terribly ugly.
“You truly are beautiful – we were all astonished too.”
“What a loss to have hidden such a beautiful face all this time.”
“But it was worth the effort. Lady Clarissa, your skin and hair are both so lovely!”
The maids chime in from behind me. I’m completely bewildered.
“Clarissa. Why do you look so troubled? It truly suits you perfectly. I think you’d look even more beautiful if you smiled.”
Prince Lucas said this with a gentle smile.
Even though the prince was being so considerate, I couldn’t find the words to respond. I just couldn’t believe that I was beautiful.
Then one of the maids lowered the corners of her eyebrows and spoke.
“Prince Lucas, it seems some heartless person told Lady Clarissa that her beautiful eyes were ugly. That’s why she’s having trouble believing your words.”
“…What?”
Prince Lucas’s smiling expression instantly freezes over. He steps closer to me and asks,
“Clarissa. Is what she said true? Did someone call your eyes ugly? Who exactly said that to you?”
“Th-that is…”
“Tell me, Clarissa.”
The prince asks with serious eyes. When gazed at so directly by him, I can’t think of any evasive words, and I answer almost unconsciously.
“…Lord Ryan…”
“Ryan…? Your fiancé! What kind of man would say such cruel words to his fiancée?!”
Prince Lucas says with clear irritation. Behind us, the maids look shocked, murmuring “That Lord Ryan?”
“Come to think of it, you did mention that your fiancé would be attending today’s party with your sister instead, which is why you accepted my invitation. So, Lord Ryan is the type of man who prioritizes your sister over his own fiancée.”
“B-but Your Highness, about that matter, I was the one who suggested.”
“You wouldn’t make such a suggestion if your relationship with your fiancé were good, would you? Oh, Clarissa, to think you’ve been suffering because of such a man.”
Prince Lucas says in a voice filled with anger.
All I can do is fluster while watching him. Perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned the name, even though I was asked.
