It Seemed My Fiancé Hated Me, So I Distanced Myself—But for Some Reason, He Complained - Chapter 16
A few days later, the day of the garden party arrived in the blink of an eye.
I rode in the royal carriage that had come to pick me up from the morning and headed toward the royal castle. When I stepped into the room I was brought to, three maids were lined up waiting.
The maids scurried closer the moment they saw me.
“You must be the young lady chosen by Prince Lucas!”
“You look a bit pale, but this should be rewarding~! But why are you hiding your eyes?”
“Come now, Lady Clarissa! Please sit down! We’ll make your hair and dress absolutely perfect!”
Before I could even process what was happening, the maids whisked me off to the dressing room without giving me a chance to object.
I was pulled along by them into the dressing room.
Surrounded by dazzling dresses more magnificent than any I’d ever seen before, they had me try them on one by one.
Even dresses that were far too cute or flashy for someone like me, the maids brought without hesitation.
After selecting the dress, I was then dragged over to the dressing table. The maids happily consulted with each other while choosing types of lipstick and blush.
“Lady Clarissa, pardon me. I’m going to put your hair up now.”
“Ah…! Please wait!”
I instinctively swatted away the hand of the maid who was about to lift my bangs. The maid blinked her eyes and stared at me.
“I’m sorry, it’s just… My eyes are an ugly color. I was told not to let anyone see them.”
I explained hesitantly.
I knew it wasn’t appropriate for formal attire, but I wanted to leave my bangs as they were. Because my eyes were so ugly they made people uncomfortable.
The maids listened to my words with puzzled expressions, then leaned in closer.
“My, who in the world told you such a thing!”
“I can’t forgive anyone who would say that to a young lady! Lady Clarissa, you shouldn’t pay any mind to such rude people!”
“That’s right. Lady Clarissa has such well-defined features in both your nose and mouth – you would absolutely look more beautiful with your hair up!”
The maids all chimed in like that. However, I couldn’t bring myself to nod in agreement.
