- Is Self-Redemption Really That Hard? [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 10 - World One [10]
Lu Wuqi’s response was something Lan Xu had never expected—it stunned her for a few moments before she finally reacted.
“Auntie went to the hospital? Is she sick?” Lan Xu asked anxiously. “Have the test results come out yet? Is she okay?”
“She just went in for a routine checkup, but it turns out there’s a slight issue with her kidneys. They’re running more detailed tests today,” Lu Wuqi explained. She didn’t hide it from Lan Xu, but she also downplayed the seriousness of the situation.
Even so, Lan Xu couldn’t help but worry. “If Auntie’s in the hospital, should I go with you to visit her tomorrow? Can you take care of her by yourself? Is there anything I can help with?”
“It’s alright. She’s only staying for convenience during the tests. My mom’s condition is the same as usual—she’s still doing everything on her own,” Lu Wuqi reassured her with a calm smile. “Once the exams are done, she’ll just follow the doctor’s advice. It’s nothing serious.”
“Okay, if you run into any trouble, we can figure it out together,” Lan Xu said, trying to sound steady, though her voice came out dry and awkward.
After all, she was only a freshly graduated high school student—comforting Lu Wuqi was all she could do.
Lu Wuqi chuckled lightly, her tone easy and composed. “It’s really no big deal. Just some minor health issues. No one goes through life without getting sick at some point. As long as we follow the doctor’s instructions, everything will be fine.”
Lan Xu blinked, her worry gradually easing as she followed Lu Wuqi’s calm logic.
She was right—finding a small problem early meant it could be treated early, too.
Since Lu Wuqi was the one handling all the logistics and payments, when the examination results came out, the doctor didn’t inform Mrs. Lu directly. Instead, he called Lu Wuqi into his office.
“Your mother’s tumor is still in its early stage,” the doctor explained. “If we perform surgery right away and follow up with proper treatment, there’s a very high chance of recovery.”
Although Lu Wuqi looked mature and composed, the doctor knew she was only eighteen. He deliberately framed things optimistically, afraid she might not be able to handle it otherwise.
“Doctor,” Lu Wuqi said steadily, “if I take my mother to a major hospital in the capital for surgery, would the success rate be higher?”
The doctor was momentarily taken aback, then nodded. “Hospitals in the capital are indeed better equipped than ours. If a top specialist performs the surgery, the physical trauma will be much less.”
“Doctor, could I ask you to tell my mother she needs to rest for a month? And maybe say that one of the specialists from this hospital is currently training in the capital, so she needs to go there for a minor procedure?”
Seeing the doctor’s confusion, Lu Wuqi explained, “I’ll be reporting to Capital University in about ten days. I want to take my mom there for treatment, but I’m worried she’ll refuse if she finds out how expensive it is.”
The doctor hesitated for a moment before replying tactfully, “It’s true that getting an appointment with a specialist in the capital can be difficult, and the hospitalization costs are much higher than here.”
Lu Wuqi smiled. “That won’t be a problem. I’ll handle it. Thank you for reminding me.”
If all went as planned, the first draft of her contract would arrive in a few days. Before signing, she intended to bring up her mother’s condition with Miao Miao. If Miao Miao was willing to help, Lu Wuqi was ready to make some concessions—giving up a portion of her own profits in exchange.
Hearing the girl’s calm, decisive words, the doctor couldn’t help but feel the same kind of admiration Miao Miao once had.
Young people these days were incredible. When he was fresh out of high school, the best he could do was work a few part-time jobs—never could he have imagined calmly handling his mother’s illness and arranging treatment with a top specialist in the capital.
Under Lu Wuqi’s careful planning, everything moved forward in an orderly fashion.
Mrs. Lu trusted the doctor completely. Once she was assured the treatment wouldn’t be too costly, she stopped resisting the idea of going to the capital for surgery.
She was even a little excited to see the university her daughter would be attending. After a few gentle words of persuasion from Lu Wuqi, she finally agreed.
“This feels so unfair to my boss,” Mrs. Lu said apologetically. “I won’t be able to start working for at least another month.”
“Mom, you can only work with peace of mind if your health is good. I’m sure your boss will understand,” Lu Wuqi soothed her.
As for the supermarket owner, that matter was already resolved. During her mother’s hospital stay, Lu Wuqi returned the eleven thousand yuan she had borrowed, with interest included.
Although the owner regretted not being able to help when it mattered most, she was content knowing she’d formed a good connection with such a reliable young person.
Meanwhile, when Miao Miao heard Lu Wuqi’s proposed exchange terms, she immediately agreed.
The fact that Lu Wuqi made her request before signing the contract only made Miao Miao like her more. She even said the two of them were now friends—if Lu Wuqi ever needed help, she just had to ask.
So, after signing and sending back the contract, Lu Wuqi really did ask.
Lu Wuqi: Vice President Miao, would it be convenient to lend me a million yuan? I’ll pay you back 1.1 million in three months.
I-Love-Cats: For your mom’s treatment?
Lu Wuqi: No, I’ve been studying the stock market recently. I want to give it a try.
Seeing the message, Miao Miao hesitated. She walked around her desk and sat beside her partner. “Weiwei, my promising young partner wants to try the stock market. Do you think I should support her?”
It wasn’t that Miao Miao was reluctant to part with the money—she just worried that her investment might fuel a dangerous obsession.
“Support her,” Ye Yingwei said casually after glancing at the chat. “If she fails, she’ll end up working for you anyway.”
“And if she succeeds?” Miao Miao asked.
“Then it means your judgment was right,” Ye Yingwei replied smoothly. “Next time she gives you advice, we should take her even more seriously.”
That made perfect sense. Miao Miao grinned, gave her lover a quick kiss, then asked Lu Wuqi for her bank details and promptly transferred the one million yuan.
Mr. Lu returned home the day after his wife was discharged from the hospital.
Seeing his downcast expression, both Mrs. Lu and Lu Wuqi—without needing to discuss it—chose to keep the truth from him.
Mrs. Lu simply said she was accompanying their daughter to the capital to help her settle in.
Mr. Lu wanted to go too, but after thinking about the trouble he had caused during his last trip, he kept silent. Clutching a cheap pack of cigarettes, he went out to the balcony to smoke.
Three days before the start of the semester, Capital University opened its registration period, giving students two and a half days to report.
This not only helped those traveling from afar manage their schedules better but also prevented overcrowding during check-in.
Lu Wuqi invited Lan Xu to fly to the capital with her, and after some discussion, the two decided to pack light.
Bulky bedding like quilts and mattresses would be too expensive to ship, so they planned to buy new ones once they arrived.
They also skipped most everyday supplies, bringing only essentials—electronics, a clean bedding set, and a few seasonal clothes.
Just as Lu Wuqi and her mother were about to leave for the airport to meet Lan Xu, Mr. Lu stopped them, trying to keep his composure despite the panic flickering in his eyes.
“I, I want to see Xiao Lu off too,” he said, voice steady but fists clenched tight at his sides, betraying the nerves he couldn’t hide.
