- Chapter 25.1 - Extra 2 - Daily Life Raising a Cub
When Zelan played dead, Yu Xianqing instinctively tensed for a moment, but seeing the display connected to the vital signs monitor show no abnormal fluctuations, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
He was both exasperated and amused.
Qi Lin examined the little leopard’s physical condition. Aside from being slightly overweight, everything was fine. He ruffled the cub’s fur and said, “Congratulations to both Your Highnesses. It is a very healthy male beastman.”
“Let me see him.”
Yu Xianqing reached out to Qi Lin. The moment he carefully took the cub into his arms, his arms sank from the weight.
The newborn leopard cub was already quite large, about the size of a two-year-old cat, and its body was covered in a thin layer of black fuzz.
Sensing a familiar scent, the little leopard opened its eyes, looking at Yu Xianqing with naive, watery blue eyes: “Meow-wu…”
The soft cry made Yu Xianqing’s heart melt.
But soon, the little leopard began to squirm restlessly in Yu Xianqing’s arms. Its mouth opened and closed, and its tiny paws urgently kneaded his chest as it began to let out thin cries.
Yu Xianqing immediately thought of the possibility: “Is he hungry?”
The little leopard’s soft paw pads pressed against him, signaling for food, crying out “aow aow” from hunger.
It seemed he had mistaken Yu Xianqing for the mother who provided nutrition.
Qi Lin pressed the ‘Surgery Finished’ button by the bed. The silver operating table instantly retracted all its metal plates, transforming into a large white bed with soft bedding.
The doctor made a gesture, and everyone exited without looking back, thoughtfully closing the door behind them.
Zelan opened his eyes at this moment and let out a call toward the cub in Yu Xianqing’s arms.
The cub’s frantic kneading paused, as if it had just realized something was wrong—why wasn’t mother giving him anything to eat? “Aow aow aow?”
Zelan’s ears flattened into airplane ears from the noise. He used his eyes to signal Yu Xianqing to come over.
Yu Xianqing caught the hint and placed the little leopard beneath Zelan’s belly. The massive silver-white leopard rolled onto his side, exposing his belly covered in thick fur.
The little black leopard looked back at Yu Xianqing. His human father gave him an encouraging look.
The cub sniffed and instantly caught the scent. Its unsteady little paws flailed as it struggled to crawl onto Zelan, its tiny teeth nipping and biting.
The cub froze.
It couldn’t reach.
“Meow-wu—”
He was almost crying with frustration, flailing atop Zelan and nearly sliding off.
Zelan looked down to see this tiny speck completely buried in his thick fur. Those little fangs couldn’t even reach the target.
Yu Xianqing & Zelan: “…”
Yu Xianqing cleared his throat. “I’ll help.”
He leaned over and parted Zelan’s fur. The little leopard meowed as it crawled up, finally getting its first nutritional meal.
The cub only knew how to follow its instinct to feed, getting milk all over its mouth.
Zelan narrowed his beastly eyes, his large tail flicking impatiently as he allowed this featherless little thing to run wild on his body.
Who else could he let do this, since this little thing was the cub of him and the human?
Yu Xianqing had a head of beautiful black hair, and his cub also grew a coat of beautiful black fur. Zelan felt a bit more satisfied with the leopard cub because of this.
As the cub ate, it almost fell off. Zelan hooked his long tail around the cub’s waist, pulling him back onto his belly to continue drinking.
The leopard cub let out a burp, looking drowsy. Yu Xianqing picked him up and took him to the nursery, handing him over to a nanny’s care.
Beastman cubs were different from humans, they had strong constitutions. Once no problems were detected after birth, they could be put directly back in their rooms to be raised.
The little black leopard inherited the human’s excellent, defect-free genes and Zelan’s strong, athletic physique. After eating its fill, it curled up in its cradle, circled its tail around itself, and fell peacefully asleep.
The more Yu Xianqing looked, the cuter he found it. Back when he lived on Earth, people who loved small animals always said they wanted to give birth to a kitten. He didn’t expect that after transmigrating, he really would give birth to a cat.
“Mission completion detected.”
005, who hadn’t spoken in a long time, said: “Calculating rewards… no extra rewards. The Envoy may freely choose to stay or leave.”
Yu Xianqing looked at the cub sleeping soundly in the cradle and said, “Stay.”
“Understood. Are there any other requests?”
“No more.” Yu Xianqing smiled sincerely. “Being able to live an extra life and build a family I love is already more than enough for me. Thank you.”
“It is what you deserve.” Having spent so much time with him, 005 had gradually become more human-like.
“I heard from senior systems that some Envoys not only fail their missions but are also full of ambition. Relying on their knowledge of the plot, they make a mess of the world and are eventually wiped out by the Gods. Although you didn’t follow the original plot completely, the Gods say you have done very well.”
It didn’t mention that the God’s original words were: “A mere ‘Heavenly Dao’ of a small world actually thinks it can obliterate my excellent Envoy? Go to hell.”
“Then, I wish you happiness in the future. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye.”
After giving birth, Zelan returned to human form, and his massive belly flattened out. He spent every day on the starship doing rehabilitation exercises, and his abdominal muscles quickly returned.
Yu Xianqing was amazed by the beastman’s recovery speed.
The cub’s birth caused a sensation throughout the Empire. In the short term, this was the only legitimate eldest grandson of the Imperial family. Looking further ahead, since the current Emperor remained in a coma, Zelan’s succession to the throne was a certainty.
With a father as the next Emperor and a father-concubine as a noble human, the little black leopard was born as the center of attention.
The frenzied media was kept out by the starship’s airtight isolation shield. Due to the intense demand from the beastman public, Yu Xianqing had to open an official account and upload a few photos of the little leopard sleeping.
Over the past few days, the little leopard’s fur had grown a bit more, so it didn’t look particularly sparse in photos. It was shown clutching a round pink tennis ball with all four paws—something Yu Xianqing had dug out from the warehouse. It had recently become the cub’s favorite teething toy and was nearly bitten to shreds.
Once the photos were posted, countless beastmen flooded in.
“Waaa so cute! Monkey Auntie gives a kiss.”
“Froggy wants a kiss too! Mwah mwah mwah.”
“Deer Sister won’t kiss him. Such a tiny natural enemy that can’t even bite meat yet—if I hit him with my antlers, he’ll definitely cry very hard, right? (Devil’s whisper)”
Yu Xianqing smiled at these well-meaning comments.
A while ago, he always dreamed of a black leopard coming to play with him and then leaving sadly.
At first, he thought it was just thinking by day and dreaming by night, but looking back now, perhaps the little leopard knew it wasn’t liked by the parent-body at the time and instinctively sought him out to act spoiled and ask for help.
Fortunately, he survived. Yu Xianqing and Zelan would spend a lifetime loving and protecting their cub.
Someone asked below: “Has the little Imperial Grandson been named yet?”
Not yet.
They hadn’t returned to the Imperial Capital yet, so Yu Xianqing and Zelan had no plans to give the little leopard a formal name for the time being.
Zelan had asked Yu Xianqing what name he wanted, and Yu Xianqing said, “Let’s call him Bao-Bao for now.”
“Bao…” Zelan frowned. “Which ‘Bao’?” (Translator’s note: ‘Bao’ can mean Leopard or Hug)
“The ‘Bao’ as in ‘Bao Yi Bao’ (give a hug).”
Yu Xianqing held the cub. The little black leopard hung from his arm, refusing to come down no matter who tried to coax him.
“Look, he loves being held so much.” Yu Xianqing said.
Zelan was noncommittal. He was currently training his muscle strength, shirtless, doing pull-ups on a long bar.
With the changes in effort, the smooth muscles of his arms contracted and expanded. Under the perfect shoulder-neck line, his lean and powerful waist was tensed. His firm lower abdomen showed no trace of ever having been pregnant or being stretched into a ball.
Bao-Bao’s ears in Yu Xianqing’s arms stood up, watching Zelan’s exercise curiously.
When Zelan finished a round, Yu Xianqing handed him a towel, his gaze unobtrusively scanning the man’s body covered in crystal-like sweat, and said: “Good work.”
“This is nothing.”
Zelan waved it off dismissively. Bao-Bao suddenly began to meow, reaching his paws out toward Zelan from Yu Xianqing’s arms.
Zelan used one hand to wipe his sweat with the towel and used the other to scruff Bao-Bao’s neck, lifting him up and placing him on his own shoulder.
“Be self-reliant.”
Bao-Bao hung on him, almost losing his balance. Zelan didn’t bother with him, half-lying on a bench press and starting to lift dumbbells with both hands.
Bao-Bao, a furry ball huddled in his father’s chest, didn’t affect Zelan. When the little fangs bit down, Zelan paused, put down one dumbbell, used one hand to support Bao-Bao’s butt so he wouldn’t fall, and continued his work with the other hand.
Yu Xianqing watched their interaction from the side. Initially, he worried if Zelan would dislike the child, but looking at it now, he had overthought it.
Zelan had lost the care of his parents at a young age. Even if he didn’t like the leopard cub that much, he would never be like his parents.
Yu Xianqing took a blurry photo of the father and son playing from behind and posted it on the star network. Without checking the comments, he walked forward, ignoring the sweat on the other’s body, and hugged Zelan from behind.
The leopard cub was full and was dozing in Zelan’s arms.
Bao-Bao liked to sleep on his side and only ate from one side. From Yu Xianqing’s perspective, things were becoming a bit asymmetrical.
One side was full, while the stored fluid on the other side had decreased. Bao-Bao’s little paw pressed against it. Sensing his human father’s approach, he looked up and meowed happily at him.
Yu Xianqing put his hands under the cub’s armpits and lifted the little leopard up. Bao-Bao thought his father wanted to play and perkily stood his ears up. Instead, Yu Xianqing put him back in the cradle and stuffed that ruined tennis ball into his arms.
“Drink your fill, sleep well, and grow tall.”
Yu Xianqing patted the cub’s head. A lock of hair with the fresh scent of bamboo leaves fell down. The cub happily reached out to grab it, thinking Papa wanted to play, but Yu Xianqing gently pulled the hair from his paws.
Facing those aggrieved blue eyes, the human father smiled: “Does Bao-Bao want to grow as tall and strong as Zelan Papa? Then you have to sleep well.”
Whether the cub understood or not, its eyes brightened. With a “Ya!”, it hugged the tennis ball, wiggled its body to rock the cradle, and began to coax itself.
So well-behaved.
Yu Xianqing returned to Zelan’s side with satisfaction.
Zelan stopped lifting weights, gave himself a quick wipe-down, and pounced on Yu Xianqing, licking his lips.
The two began to kiss. Zelan urgently tore off Yu Xianqing’s shirt while panting a complaint: “How many days has it been since you helped me?”
“I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to feed him enough.” Yu Xianqing allowed him to search for warmth on his body urgently, his eyes slightly lowered, smiling yet not quite: “Now it seems I was over-worrying.”
The two pushed and shoved their way into the bathroom. Zelan pressed Yu Xianqing against the wall, but before he could go all the way in, Yu Xianqing pinned him down.
“Imperial Concubine?”
Zelan’s eyes were blood-red, his rationality almost burned away, yet he had to stop abruptly, looking at him in confusion.
“Your Highness, remember when you said you would compensate me?”
Yu Xianqing’s slender fingers moved across his body like tuning a harp string. Zelan winced. Out of a beast’s instinct, he felt a threatening danger.
“…Yes…” Zelan said, “What compensation do you want?”
Yu Xianqing ignored the question and increased the pressure. Zelan’s veins popped from the intensity. Yu Xianqing’s tone remained casual: “You also really didn’t cherish your body, injecting yourself with strange things.”
“Don’t you like it?” Zelan asked righteously.
Yu Xianqing nodded: “I like it, but I am very angry. If you maintain this current attitude, you won’t be able to coax me.”
A large question mark appeared over Zelan’s head. Yu Xianqing deliberately teased him and left him hanging, making him feel incredibly uncomfortable.
“Give it to me.”
Zelan frowned. With his strength, he could easily break out of Yu Xianqing’s embrace, but he didn’t quite dare—he was afraid Yu Xianqing would get angry again.
When Yu Xianqing was angry, he wouldn’t hit or scold, but he would ignore people. Zelan feared nothing except Yu Xianqing treating him like a stranger.
“I was wrong, I’ll agree to anything…”
Yu Xianqing smiled, speaking as if to a cub: “Good boy. Today is the first punishment.”
Zelan got his wish and was entered, sitting on the other’s lap. His whole person was soaked through, then wrung out, becoming dry and then damp again.
Night.
A knock sounded at the studio door. Yu Xianqing set up the easel: “Come in.”
The door opened, and Zelan walked in wearing thin clothing.
On his upper body, he wore the same style of black shirt as Yu Xianqing but in a different color. Three buttons were undone, revealing refined collarbones and half of a bulging chest.
Yu Xianqing could tell at a glance that he had just finished feeding the child, one side was bigger than the other.
Zelan was a bit unhappy when he entered: “Why do I have to knock every time?”
He hadn’t had this habit since he was young and was used to being called rude by those ministers.
Ever since one time when Yu Xianqing was bathing and Zelan insisted on barging in to battle him—leading to abdominal pains and three injections afterward—Yu Xianqing never allowed Zelan to enter freely again.
At first, Zelan was incorrigible. Later, every time he approached, Yu Xianqing would use sexual interest as an excuse to tease him, playing with him like a toy, never filling him up.
Having suffered too many losses, Zelan was like a tamed cat. No matter how unwilling he was toward the master who fed him dried fish, he could only roll over and let out two fierce meows.
Yu Xianqing lowered his eyelashes, mixing colors on the palette, speaking unhurriedly: “The injection was poked into your butt, you know why yourself.”
Speaking of this, Zelan’s movement to close the door paused, his face turning both blue and red.
That day, he had pressed the human into the water and kissed him wildly, accidentally bumping into the edge of the tub. Afterward, his belly hurt. He thought he could just endure it, but he ended up scaring Yu Xianqing nearly to death.
The human had called Qi Lin over with a cold face. Qi Lin checked and found signs of slight bleeding, saying it wasn’t a major issue but required an injection. This type of needle was very thick and was best injected into the thigh or butt.
Qi Lin gave the syringe to Yu Xianqing and let him help Zelan.
Zelan had knelt and sprawled on Yu Xianqing’s lap without even daring to breathe. He struggled as if drowning but was held down, unable to move a muscle.
…Anyway, that day was quite miserable. Whenever Zelan recalled it, his buttocks would ache faintly. He didn’t know how the human looked so beautiful and delicate yet had such strong hands.
He always said humans were wicked creatures. Once a cat gets involved with a human, it’s over.
“Come here.”
Yu Xianqing didn’t know what Zelan was thinking; he just curled his finger at him with interest.
There was some paint on his fingers, making them look colorful. Zelan walked forward and grabbed them. Yu Xianqing pulled his hand away and patted his thigh, indicating: “Sit there.”
The place he pointed to was directly facing him—a large one-way floor-to-ceiling window. One could see the scenery outside from within, but people outside couldn’t see in.
They were still on the starship. Outside the starship’s porthole was the vast and boundless sea of stars. Across a short corridor, people would pass by from time to time.
Zelan raised an eyebrow: “You want to paint me?”
He had known for a long time that Yu Xianqing could paint, but it was the first time Zelan knew he could do portraits. He immediately became interested, saying: “Just say so. I thought…”
He thought the human was going to make him do something strange as punishment.
So it was just this.
“You’ll have to sit there for about two or three star-hours.” Yu Xianqing reminded him.
Zelan sneered, mocking the human for being too naive: “A mere three star-hours? Has no one told you that my record for solo wilderness stealth is forty-five star-hours?”
“Wow, our Prince Zelan is so amazing.” Yu Xianqing smiled and clapped, his tone meaningful.
“Then I presume standing there naked for three star-hours will also be a piece of cake for you.”
Zelan was about to put on a proud expression when he suddenly froze, his eyeballs becoming still.
“…Wh-what?”
“Your Highness has heard of ‘nude painting,’ right?” Yu Xianqing said. “When I was studying at school, the models we hired didn’t have as good a physique as Your Highness. Since you are so amazing, you certainly won’t mind being my model, right?”
Zelan was stunned. How did things suddenly take this turn?
“I…”
“Please.”
Yu Xianqing softened his voice, peeking out from behind the easel. His long hair was draped tenderly over his shoulders, making him look very gentle and pure.
Yet the words he spoke were both pitiful and hateful.
“I have never painted a physique as handsome as yours. Besides…”
Yu Xianqing’s eyes shifted, “Prince Zelan, we agreed. This is a punishment.”
Yu Xianqing knew exactly how to use half-coaxing and half-threatening.
Zelan finally compromised. He turned around to draw the curtains but was stopped.
“I want to see the background.” Yu Xianqing said. “And people outside can’t see you. Even if you strike an open pose, only I will see it.”
“No!”
People passed by the corridor from time to time. They couldn’t see the two of them, nor could they hear what was being said, but as long as Zelan thought of the feeling of someone being behind his back, his whole body felt chilled.
But what was even harder to explain was the sudden surge of heat below, which made his face turn red, almost making it impossible to maintain his facade of unwillingness.
