Irreversible - Chapter 23
Chapter 23: Little Poor One’s Military Training (Part 3)
Gu Xizhou didn’t even bother washing her clothes first. Dragging that plump, pale female student, she charged straight toward the dormitory.
Along the way, they passed many students holding basins and washing clothes at the sinks. Seeing the “little bean” dragging a “white steamed bun” with such a murderous aura toward the dorms, they all shrank to the side in fear, whispering curiously to their companions.
What’s going on now?
With a darkened face, Gu Xizhou walked all the way to the second large dormitory. Her gaze pierced through the rows of single army cots, landing sharply on Su Nanfeng in the corner. This dormitory had a hundred cots, meaning a hundred female Alphas lived here. As luck would have it, Gu Xizhou and Su Nanfeng had been assigned to the same room.
Some students who were faster had already finished their laundry and returned. Seeing Gu Xizhou dragging a classmate directly to Su Nanfeng, they didn’t even dare to breathe loudly.
Su Nanfeng sat on her lackey’s bed with her arms crossed, coldly watching as the follower made her bed. Hearing the commotion, she turned to look at Gu Xizhou. Seeing the girl approaching with wet hair, half-damp clothes, and a hostage in tow, Su Nanfeng narrowed her eyes.
What’s with this shorty? Is she here to find trouble?
Su Nanfeng’s intuition proved correct. As soon as Gu Xizhou arrived, she slammed the plump student’s water basin onto the bed frame with a loud BANG and asked fiercely: “Did you order this to be done!”
The noise was so loud that the person making Su Nanfeng’s bed jumped in fright. Su Nanfeng was also momentarily stunned, looking at Gu Xizhou’s small face half-hidden by wet hair, feeling quite baffled.
When Su Nanfeng didn’t speak, Gu Xizhou’s temper flared. She grabbed the basin and slammed it again, raising her voice: “Su Nanfeng! Did you tell this student to splash water on me in the bathroom? My pajamas are completely soaked!”
The “little bean” was like a loaded cannon; the moment she opened her mouth, everyone else fell silent. The dormitory became so quiet that one could almost hear a needle drop; all conversations and movements turned cautious.
Su Nanfeng gave a scoff with her arms crossed. “What, are you going to blame everything on me now?”
Gu Xizhou, seeing her attitude, felt a surge of rage. “So you’re saying it wasn’t you?”
Su Nanfeng replied with feigned composure, “If I did it, I’d admit it. If I didn’t, I won’t.”
Gu Xizhou spat in disdain. “I’ve never seen you admit to the things you did before! Stop acting—who else but you would bully people like this here?”
Beside them, Ding Yi chimed in snidely: “Who knows? With a hateful personality like yours, maybe you offended someone without even knowing it.”
The people surrounding Su Nanfeng drifted behind her, standing together to apply silent pressure on Gu Xizhou through sheer numbers. If it were the Gu Xizhou of a week ago, she might have been afraid. But now? Fear my foot.
Gu Xizhou’s hand squeezed the water basin tightly. She turned to Ding Yi, her eyes certain: “You did this!”
Ding Yi acted indifferent, saying lazily, “Who are you… why would I go to such trouble…”
Gu Xizhou didn’t bother listening to her nonsense. She turned to the plump student she had dragged along and said in a deep voice: “I don’t know what you were thinking—maybe you were bullied or threatened into doing this to me.”
“If you’re being bullied, please contact your parents or teachers for help. Don’t reach out and hurt innocent classmates.”
“I won’t settle the score with you this time, but this is the only time. Don’t let there be a next time.”
With that, Gu Xizhou released her hand, shoved the basin back to her, and turned to leave. The students who expected a fight watched her thin, bony back and wondered: Is she giving up because there are too many people?
Even Ding Yi stood by Su Nanfeng with her arms crossed, watching Gu Xizhou leave with a cold snort. “At least she knows what’s good for her.” She’ll have a hard time tomorrow.
Su Nanfeng understood the situation better. She looked up and glared at Ding Yi, her tone very cold: “Don’t provoke her again.”
Gu Xizhou was a ticking bomb. Su Nanfeng was currently playing the “good child” and didn’t want to blow things up in front of her mother and sister again, making them ignore her.
Ding Yi scratched her face and muttered awkwardly, “I was just trying to vent some steam for you…”
Gu Xizhou was very patient. She returned to the bathroom, washed her clothes, hung them up to dry, and brought a basin of water back to the dorm, hiding it under her bed.
At 11:30 PM, the bell rang, the lights went out, and under the instructors’ patrol, the students all climbed into bed and fell asleep. In the dark night, the light from the military base’s watchtower shone through the glass, casting a clear, bright glow across the communal cots.
As the sound of snoring rose and fell, Gu Xizhou clenched her fist against her chest, silently counting the time.
0820 told her: “It’s about time. Get up.”
Only then did Gu Xizhou carefully lift her quilt and rise. She picked up the basin of water from under the bed and, using the light in the darkness, walked barefoot to the heads of Su Nanfeng’s and Ding Yi’s beds. In the dead of night, she stood wordlessly by the bed, staring dead-on at Su Nanfeng’s face.
Su Nanfeng hadn’t been sleeping deeply. Sensing something was wrong, she snapped her eyes open. At that exact moment, a basin of cold water was dumped violently from the head of the bed.
Su Nanfeng was instantly drenched from head to toe; her entire pillow area was soaked. She was completely stunned, her brain failing to process what happened before she instinctively screamed: “AH—!”
The sound was like a clap of thunder, suddenly piercing the dark night. Ding Yi, in the next bed, was jolted awake by the scream and scrambled to get up: “What happened, what happened…”
Before she could finish, a basin of cold water poured over her head. The wet, icy sensation made her shriek instantly: “AAAAHHHHHH!”
Gu Xizhou seized the opportunity. While Ding Yi was screaming, she slammed the water basin against her head—thump, thump, thump—hitting her several times until Ding Yi was scurrying around holding her head.
0820 cheered in her mind: “Well hit! Well hit!”
“Hit them louder! Make it known to everyone!”
The previously silent dormitory instantly erupted into chaos. With a click, the lights flickered on, illuminating everything in the corner. Ding Yi, having regained her senses, rose with dripping wet hair and pinned Gu Xizhou to the ground, scuffling with her: “You dead shorty!”
“F**k you! You’re dead meat!”
Gu Xizhou lay beneath her, but under 0820’s guidance, her arms and legs clamped onto Ding Yi like a vice, preventing the other girl from hurting her. Ding Yi, with a bloody nose and disheveled hair, swung her fists powerlessly, cursing like a madwoman: “You’re f**king dead!”
“You’re dead!”
Gu Xizhou locked her firmly from below, her eyes cold and her voice flat: “Oh… if you’re so capable, then kill me.”
“If there is a next time, I’ll strangle you in your bed.”
As she spoke, her gaze landed on Su Nanfeng, who was sitting on the bed nearby. Her look was so fierce it seemed she could kill. Su Nanfeng felt a sudden chill down her spine and made a silent decision: A mad dog.
She would absolutely never provoke her again.
