Inheriting a Farm Made Me an Internet Sensation - Chapter 36
Seeing this news, Lin Muhan’s first feeling was one of sheer gratification.
Walking ahead, Tan Xiao noticed she hadn’t kept up and circled back, asking, “What’s wrong?”
Lin Muhan immediately handed over her phone, tapping the screen with her finger to signal her to look.
“Who did this? Was it Su Han?” She voiced the doubt in her mind. Knowing Jiang Yue had suffered a setback naturally made her happy, but her greatest curiosity was who possessed the immense capability required to make Jiang Yue swallow such a bitter pill.
If appropriate, she wanted to go and learn a thing or two, so Jiang Yue would never have the chance to speak to her with her nose in the air again.
Lin Muhan shook her head and took the phone back. While tapping the screen to reply, she answered, “It probably wasn’t Su Han. Su Han doesn’t do things so high-handedly; even if she seeks revenge, she does it stealthily.”
“You certainly understand her well.” Even Tan Xiao herself didn’t notice the slight hint of sourness in her voice as she spoke.
Hearing this, Lin Muhan finished replying to the message, tucked her phone into her coat pocket, and wrapped both arms around Tan Xiao’s arm. The corners of her lips curled upward as she said teasingly, “Are you jealous?” She feigned confusion. “But what can be done? I’ve known her for over ten years. If she even twitches an eyebrow, I know exactly what she’s thinking.”
Tan Xiao: “…”
Lin Muhan reached up, turning Tan Xiao’s averted face back toward her, and said seriously, “You, however, are the first person I want to spend the rest of my life deciphering.”
Gazing into her eyes which were overflowing with tenderness, and breathing in the faint scent of roses in the air, Tan Xiao’s heartbeat inadvertently quickened. The gloom in her heart vanished in an instant, replaced by joy.
In terms of the length of time they had known each other, she truly couldn’t compete with Su Han, but she had her entire remaining life to spend by Lin Muhan’s side.
After waiting for a while without receiving a reaction, Lin Muhan applied a bit of pressure, playfully kneading her face.
“Give me a reaction.”
Tan Xiao couldn’t help but lean down and press a kiss onto Lin Muhan’s forehead. “I am very lucky to be able to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Lin Muhan’s smile grew even more radiant. Her hands slid down to Tan Xiao’s neck, crossing them over each other. “Me too.”
In her mind, she was already sketching out what Tan Xiao would look like forty years from now.
A Tan Xiao with a face full of the marks of time, walking with a staggered gait through the fields, perhaps even leaning on a cane. Seeing the helpers doing something incorrectly, she would wave her cane and nag them incessantly. After returning home, she would recount the events of the field to her.
If they felt life was becoming dull, they would go out and wander about, experiencing a life of “plucking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence, leisurely catching sight of the southern mountains.”
Just thinking about it made her feel incredibly happy.
Returning from the fields, Chen Cuihua saw the two youngsters showing off their affection right there in the courtyard. She hurriedly raised her hand to cover her eyes and turned toward the road.
Not paying attention, she bumped into the stainless-steel gate, immediately letting out an “Ouch.”
Hearing the sound, Lin Muhan quickly released Tan Xiao and stepped back a few paces. Turning her head toward Chen Cuihua with a hint of embarrassment, she asked carefully, “Sister Chen, are you alright?”
Rubbing her bruised elbow, Chen Cuihua shook her head and said, “I’m fine, I’m fine.” She gave a light cough and, with her head lowered, walked quickly toward the living room. “You two continue, please continue.”
Upon hearing this, no matter how calm Lin Muhan usually was, she couldn’t help but blush.
Although Tan Xiao had experience being teased, her face felt burning hot after being caught hugging Mumu. In a flurry of motion, she grabbed the spoils of their shopping trip and ran straight for the second floor.
Huangtian International, CEO’s Office
Su Han was looking down, processing documents, when she heard the secretary’s attempt to stop someone outside, followed by the sound of steady, unhurried high heels.
She quickly put down the documents. Just as she turned toward the door, it was pushed open. Immediately after, Jiang Mo, wearing a black coat, walked in and headed straight for the sofa.
The secretary stood awkwardly at the door, mouth slightly open, wanting to explain.
Su Han stood up and waved her hand. “I know. You may go.”
The secretary breathed a sigh of relief, gently closed the door, and retreated to her workstation.
Su Han walked around the three-meter-long desk, sat down across from the sofa, and looked at Jiang Mo, who was standing by the sofa with her arms crossed. “Making such a grand entrance—are you worried your sister won’t know about your plans?”
“I’m giving you one chance to come clean,” Jiang Mo said, turning to look at her profile. “I can choose not to pursue it.”
She had hired a specialist to appraise the value of that batch of jade; it wasn’t worth five hundred million at all.
Su Han feigned ignorance and countered, “What do you want to hear? Say it, and I’ll see if I can say it back to you.”
A flash of sinister shadow crossed Jiang Mo’s phoenix eyes. She stepped toward Su Han and, catching her off guard, lightly pinched Su Han’s chin, forcing her to meet her gaze. “To vent anger for our little Su-Su, I used her own tricks against her.” She shook her head slightly. “I thought little Su-Su and I were moving toward each other, but now I find it was just my own unrequited wish. Little Su-Su, tell me, what should I do with you?”
Jiang Mo’s voice was very soft, but to Su Han’s ears, every word was piercing.
She turned her head away, attempting to rescue her chin from the grip.
Jiang Mo not only refused to let her have her way but instead increased the pressure, even using the pad of her thumb to forcefully rub the corner of Su Han’s lip.
This feeling of being restrained, combined with that predatory gaze, made her extremely uncomfortable.
Her aura fully released, she said expressionlessly, “Jiang Mo, do not test my patience.”
“What should I do, little Su-Su? You’ve stepped on my bottom line again.” Jiang Mo leaned down beside Su Han’s ear. “We’ve known each other for eight years after all. Little Su-Su should know that the thing I dislike most is others threatening or calculating against me. You’ve managed to do both, little Su-Su.”
Su Han was not in the habit of humoring anyone. Seeing that Jiang Mo had not yet removed her claws from her chin, she reached up and grabbed Jiang Mo’s wrist, increasing her strength. “I don’t like people touching me.”
Jiang Mo’s expression remained unchanged, as if she couldn’t feel the pain. She feigned confusion. “Then what should we do? I happen to really like ‘sticking’ to little Su-Su.”
“Jiang Mo!” Su Han said through gritted teeth, tightening her grip further.
Whether Jiang Mo actually listened or finally felt the pain, she retracted the hand she had placed on Su Han’s chin.
She seemed completely indifferent to the reddened skin on her wrist as she sat down nonchalantly on the sofa. “Speak then. When did you start calculating against me?”
Su Han gave a light laugh. “No one calculated against you. If you really want to be pedantic about it, you dug your own hole. You can’t blame anyone else.”
Jiang Mo laughed instead of getting angry, nodding. “Fine, I’ll take the loss this time, but you must compensate me.”
Su Han pointed toward the door, signaling that she could leave.
“The old man has lost his mind or something; he says I must start a family before I can inherit Huatai. As my business partner, it is necessary for you to help me solve this trouble.” Jiang Mo leaned back against the sofa. “If you’re unwilling, then I’ll go find that cousin of yours. The younger sister can pay the older sister’s debt.”
“Go ahead. I won’t see you out.” With that, Su Han stood up and walked toward her desk.
Don’t think she didn’t know Jiang Mo’s actual plan. Jiang Mo wanted to tie Su Han completely to her, seeking the full support of Huangtian International.
The debt with Jiang Yue had to be settled, but she would never gamble the entirety of Huangtian International.
“Then I’ll take that as your agreement.” Jiang Mo left the sofa and stood up. “She’s a bit poor, but that land is being farmed quite well. Based on that alone, she’s much better than that actress.”
This time she didn’t wait for Su Han’s response and strode toward the door.
She had guessed the result before coming; Su Han wouldn’t help her.
If Su Han was difficult to handle, couldn’t she just handle Tan Xiao?
What she had just said wasn’t entirely false. She only learned a short while ago that her mother had forced the old man to sign an agreement back then; after she married, she could inherit twenty percent of Huatai’s shares.
The old man had kept this hidden from her all these years. If she hadn’t found the lawyer her mother trusted back then, and if that lawyer hadn’t told her everything along with another agreement, she might have never known until the day she died.
And the old man, out of a guilty conscience, hadn’t pursued the matter of her returning to the country without a word.
Originally, she could have just found anyone to marry to get the shares into her hands. But relying solely on that twenty percent, she wouldn’t be able to successfully take the position of CEO of Huatai. She had to find a sufficiently strong boost to allow her to succeed in one stroke.
Su Han was her first choice.
Back at the farm, Tan Xiao had no idea she was being targeted by a “mad wolf.” At this moment, she and Lin Muhan were nestled together on the sofa.
Though they were snuggled together, both were busy with their own tasks.
Her traditional planting project had successfully been shortlisted for an international project and won second place, receiving high praise from the international agricultural community.
This achievement had alerted several agricultural research institutes, which said they would gather here in two days to listen to her detailed explanation of the project.
Professor Wu had just repeatedly urged her over the phone to prepare the content of the seminar well and not to lose face for the Binhai Agricultural College.
Regarding preparing seminar content, she had experience from her original world, so starting now was considered a familiar task.
Beside her, Lin Muhan was discussing the launch of a new product with her partner, He Wen.
The new product being launched this time was konjac meal replacement powder.
Unlike other similar meal replacement powders on the market, the konjac content in the version they were launching was relatively high, and it also contained rich coarse grains. With the right proportions, the taste was quite good.
Currently, as a member benefit, they had already sent out two thousand cans. The feedback received was all quite positive, so they were discussing picking an auspicious day to put this meal replacement powder on the market.
By the time the date was finalized, an hour had passed. She put down her phone and rested her head on Tan Xiao’s shoulder. “President Tan, can I go to that seminar of yours?”
Tan Xiao didn’t even move her eyes, her fingers continuing to tap on the keyboard. After a long while, she replied, “You can. However, basically everyone attending is assumed to be in the same major.”
The implication was that if someone came to discuss things with her and found out she wasn’t an agriculture major, it would be quite awkward for her.
“Then forget it. Just send me a text before it ends, and I’ll come pick you up.”
“No need, it’s only a few steps away.”
Tan Xiao didn’t notice at all that Lin Muhan’s face had already darkened.
