In A World Full of Silence, My Heart Will Find Its Way To You - Chapter 113
Isabella’s eyes widened in shock.
Edward’s words were different from usual, making him feel like a completely different person.
Unlike the flustered Isabella, Edward continued speaking with a calm face.
“I know my reckless actions must’ve angered the Cecil family. Right now, both they and I are the talk of the nobility, but over time, things will calm down. You know I’m not guilty.”
“Oh my God. They say the Countess poisoned her husband. And you’re saying you’re innocent?”
“That was my mother’s mistake. Not mine.”
“Unbelievable. How can you say that as the head of the family…? She took her own life for your sake. Don’t you have any conscience at all?”
The truth was, Isabella’s harsh words came from somewhere deeper inside.
She still wanted to give Edward a chance.
A chance to remember the man she once loved as someone beautiful in her memories.
But seeing how far he had fallen, she couldn’t help but doubt her own eyes.
Edward surely knew all of this too.
Clinging to her so desperately without thinking only destroyed their relationship even more.
But contrary to her hopes, Edward swallowed dryly and pleaded again.
“Please, take me back, Isabella. I have no one but you.”
“I don’t want to hear it. Stop.”
“I know you still love me. Please don’t be so cold. We’re only hurting each other like this.”
“This is crazy. How did you become such a mess…?”
“Let’s start over.”
“S-Stop!”
Isabella straightened up to avoid Edward, who kept getting closer.
Her cold attitude briefly showed disappointment on Edward’s face.
But he brushed it off as his imagination and stepped toward her again.
While Edward smiled softly, Isabella only backed away with a cold, wary look in her eyes.
Edward stared at her quietly.
She was being heartlessly cruel now, but he firmly believed it was because she was in pain. No—he wanted to believe that.
His desperate hope crumbled in an instant.
Isabella let out a small gasp as she stared at him, and then something came out of her lips that made him doubt his ears.
“I’m getting married soon. To the eldest son of the Albemarle family.”
“The eldest son of the Albemarle family…?”
“Yes, the one who’s infamous for his wild lifestyle of gambling and women.”
“What?”
“I don’t have a choice. It’s my father’s order. I have to obey.”
“That… That can’t be…”
Edward’s eyes began to tremble slightly.
The Albemarle family only held the title of Count, and their name was surrounded by terrible rumors.
The Count of Albemarle was notorious for his many scandals with noblewomen, and his son had squandered the family fortune chasing pleasure and women.
Now broke, the Albemarle family was rushing to marry off the eldest son to collect a large dowry from the bride’s side.
And that bride… had to be Isabella. Edward let out a short breath in shock.
Isabella glared at Edward with eyes full of resentment.
“This is all your fault. Ever since the broken engagement, no family has sent me a proposal. My family needs a title. That’s why I must become a Countess.”
“I-Isabella…”
Isabella took a long breath to calm her nerves, then slowly lifted her head.
“So don’t come looking for me again. Honestly, I want to call the guards and have you arrested on the spot. But since you’re someone I once loved, I won’t go that far.”
Edward couldn’t move, frozen by her ice-cold response.
Isabella glanced around, then turned away from him and walked straight to the carriage.
As the carriage began to move again, Isabella turned her head to avoid looking outside.
With a loud clatter, the carriage moved away toward the busy part of town.
Edward stood still, staring blankly at the spot where the carriage had been.
“No… I can’t let it end like this…”
Tears welled up and blurred his vision.
Just then, through the haze, he began to see guards rushing toward him.
“There he is!”
A familiar voice rang out from afar—it was the voice of the coachman who had brought him here.
“That’s him! He’s the head of the Bailey family!”
The coachman, pointing at Edward, flinched when their eyes met and quickly hid behind the guards.
“That man is the head of the Bailey family! We must catch him!”
Edward glanced around as the guards chased him to the edge. He was trapped.
He was standing on Roxen Bridge. There was only one way to escape now.
His green eyes looked down at the river below, where sunlight glistened on the water’s surface.
The river was flowing rapidly.
Edward’s feet moved urgently to the edge of the bridge. A cold wind pierced his chest as he stood there, barely balanced.
“Stop right there!”
One knight shouted sharply from behind. It was a command for a criminal.
But Edward, rather than showing fear, smiled faintly.
Then he turned to face the wide river, almost as if to show off.
He took a deep breath and looked back on his life. Tears of regret ran down his cheeks.
His bloodshot eyes looked up as he gave a sad smile.
In that moment, a woman appeared in his blurred vision. The one he had longed for so much—Aria.
“Aria…”
He whispered softly and took one step forward. A step to reach the time he had lost.
“Stop him!”
But it was too late. Before the knight could reach him, Edward let himself fall into the deep river and was swept away.
A few days later, Aria was sitting on her bed, having woken up early in the morning.
“Edward jumped into the river while trying to escape. Because of the heavy rain a few days ago, the current was too strong. They couldn’t find the body.”
Eric’s words kept echoing in Aria’s head.
She looked up at him, shocked.
He looked calm at first, but the news of Edward’s death, following the Countess’s suicide, briefly darkened his face.
Deep down, he was blaming himself for everything that had happened.
In his eyes, which were slowly growing darker, emotions beyond words were swirling.
It was his own doing—but something he had to face.
To move forward, Eric had to suppress the guilt that kept gnawing at him.
Lost in thought, Aria recalled memories of Edward.
Back when she first arrived at the Bailey estate, doing all the cleaning and laundry.
The one thing that helped her survive that hellish place was Edward.
A boy sitting by the fountain in the center of the garden, reading a book.
His golden hair shining in the wind, and those green eyes that perfectly matched the summer’s greenery.
He looked like a painting—so beautiful that anyone who saw him would be mesmerized.
Aria shook her head to stop the memories of Edward’s childhood. She stood up and headed to the dressing room.
Her steps stopped in front of the mirror at the center of the room.
When she lifted her heavy eyelids, she saw a woman in an elegant orange dress awkwardly standing in the reflection.
‘It still feels strange…’
Feeling uncomfortable, Aria pulled at the sleeve of the dress, which made her bare shoulders stand out even more.
She frowned slightly and tried to fix it again.
“Even after regaining my status, I still can’t let go of the old me.”
Letting out a short sigh, Aria gave herself a bitter smile.
She was tying up her long hair neatly, looking at the mirror out of habit, when—
“Excuse me, Miss Reynolds. May I come in?”
Someone knocked and entered.
It was a royal maid in a dark blue dress, her hair tied neatly back.
She bowed slightly to Aria. Aria felt a strange sense of familiarity and searched her memory.
“You’re the maid who serves His Majesty, right?”
“Oh, you remember me. I’m Caitlyn Persiga. It’s been a while.”
“What brings you here…? Did His Majesty send you?”
“I’m afraid not this time, Miss Reynolds. But if you have a moment, someone is here to see you.”
“Of course.”
The maid gave a half-moon smile at Aria’s answer.
“Wonderful. I brought someone here who’s been wanting to see you.”
“Someone? Who…?”
Before Aria could think, the maid opened the door quickly.
“Please come in, Miss Stuart.”
A familiar face shyly stepped into the room.
“It’s been a while, Miss Reynolds.”
Aria slowly took in the sight of the woman who entered.
A cute face wearing a light green dress with exotic patterns—it was Sierra.
Her calm and graceful voice echoed in the air, and Aria’s brown eyes started to tremble.
Just like always, Aria’s body tensed up instantly.
She had a feeling she knew why Sierra had come to see her.
Aria couldn’t move, frozen in place. To ease the stiff atmosphere, Sierra smiled gently.
