In a Survival Variety Show, My Lookalike Rival and I Got a Happy Ending - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Ever since arriving at this variety show, the five guests had to wake up early every day, heading to the gathering point with heavy dark circles under their eyes.
Qin Sijing sat on a tree stump, her brows furrowed so deeply they could crush a fly.
Jiang Xunruo tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and slowly sipped the hot tea on the table. Occasionally, she would look up, her gaze pausing for a moment as it brushed past Qin Sijing before moving away as if nothing had happened.
Sitting across from Jiang Xunruo was Bai Qi. Her ink-black hair was tucked neatly behind her ears, with a few stray strands hanging down, further accentuating her cold and elegant temperament.
Separated from her by the distance of one tree stump was Song Yitong. Her long, brown curly hair was tied into a casual messy bun as she looked down slightly, focused on drinking the tea in her hands.
Ximen Ling, with her short hair, held a coconut high in her hand, revealing her small canine teeth: “Look what I found!”
Jiang Xunruo smiled gently, “A coconut.”
“Good morning, five teachers!”
Seeing that everyone had arrived, the PD made a grand entrance with her trademark “I know I’m wicked” smile.
“Seeing everyone so harmonious, the production team feels greatly relieved! To let this harmony continue to sublimate, today our team has prepared a small game to promote understanding and enhance feelings! Truth!”
“The rules are also very simple.”
Ignoring the countless eyes in the audience begging for mercy, the PD announced passionately: “Today’s task is to build a shelter that can house two people. Rankings will be determined by the completion time. The first-place group will receive a luxurious feast (sponsored by the production team, we have the final say!) plus 4 survival points!”
“The second-place group will get 2 survival points!”
“The last-place group will not only get 0 points, but also! They have to go catch fish to prepare dinner for everyone and accept the Truth challenge!”
“Before today’s task begins, let’s divide into groups.” The PD brought out the drawing box. “According to the rules, the MVP group from the previous round gets priority to draw and choose teammates!”
Ximen Ling politely yielded to Song Yitong, “Teacher Song, you go first.”
Song Yitong nodded and reached out to draw a slip.
The moment she pulled it out, her entire body visibly stiffened.
The PD quickly took control, turning the slip toward the camera for a close-up. “Wow! Oh! Fate is predestined! The teammate Teacher Song drew is Teacher Bai!”
Bai Qi’s expression didn’t change much, appearing as if she didn’t care at all.
When it was Ximen Ling’s turn, she drew a blank slip of paper.
PD: “Teacher Ximen will form a single-person group this round!”
Qin Sijing had already cursed the production team a hundred times in her heart, her face showing an unmasked “please let me go” expression.
Jiang Xunruo merely gave a faint smile.
Building a shelter was harder than the previous tasks of fetching water or the fire-starting relay; it required physical strength and team coordination.
When Qin Sijing and Jiang Xunruo huddled together, they were completely clueless. The ground was covered in wood and vines how were they supposed to do this?
“You help me hold this part,” Qin Sijing directed.
“Okay,” Jiang Xunruo complied.
Originally, the two were quite synchronized, but the “two positives make a negative” conclusion wasn’t that easy to overturn.
Jiang Xunruo didn’t hold the wood steadily; with a “clatter,” it fell down, splashing mud onto both of their pant legs.
On the other hand, the Bai-Song group didn’t say a word, but their movements were extremely tacit.
When Bai Qi hammered a stake, Song Yitong would hand over a stone; when Song Yitong needed to fix a vine, Bai Qi was already pulling the other end tight.
Ximen Ling adapted quickly to her first time working alone, carrying wood and tying vines herself, even refusing the production team’s offer to help.
After finishing, she even wandered between the two groups.
“Teacher Jiang, do you need help with anything?”
“Teacher Bai, Teacher Song, you guys are coordinating quite well!”
In the end, there was no suspense: Ximen took first place, the Bai-Song group took second, and the group of Qin Sijing and Jiang Xunruo came in dead last.
Their shelter even collapsed right when the results were announced, providing maximum comedic effect for the show.
“Teacher Qin, Teacher Jiang, it’s time to accept the Truth challenge! Come, come, I’m going to draw a question now~”
The PD shook the cardboard box at the camera. She pulled out a slip at random. After reading the content, she gasped, her expression both terrified and excited.
After teasing the audience enough, the PD cleared her throat before reading it out. “Question for Teacher Qin and Teacher Jiang: Since coming to this deserted island, what one thing has surprised you the most?”
The camera cut to Qin Sijing and Jiang Xunruo.
Qin Sijing had no expression. She thought the team would ask something sharp, but they asked this?
She barely thought about it and replied casually, “Most surprising? The mosquitoes on this island are much more venomous than I thought; their bites are really nasty.”
The PD’s face was written with “That’s it?”, but out of professional etiquette, she responded with a smile, “The mosquitoes on this island are indeed venomous!”
“Teacher Jiang, what surprised you the most?”
Jiang Xunruo lowered her eyes, thinking seriously, then looked up at Qin Sijing, whose face was written with “don’t look at me, don’t look at me.”
“The thing that surprised me most…” she chuckled softly, “was discovering that Teacher Qin seems to be prone to tachycardia (rapid heart rate).”
Qin Sijing: “???”
The gossipy eyes of everyone present immediately swept over.
The PD’s eyes lit up instantly, “Tachycardia? Teacher Jiang, tell us more!”
Jiang Xunruo smiled gently, her tone calm and unhurried: “It was when Teacher Qin and I went to pick up firewood. I accidentally touched Teacher Qin’s wrist and felt it by chance. I suppose people are more likely to be sensitive when touching a stranger in a dark environment?”
The PD didn’t want to let them go yet and continued to dig a hole: “Then Teacher Jiang, was your own heart rate normal at that time?”
Jiang Xunruo lowered her eyes as if remembering seriously, then smiled charmingly: “At that time, I was choked by the smell in the forest and was busy coughing, so I didn’t notice.”
She added another sentence, “However, I believe that in that situation, staying focused and calm to complete the task properly is what’s most important.”
She perfectly avoided personal feelings and elevated the topic back to the task, making it beyond reproach.
The PD was left speechless by this airtight response and had to turn the spearhead toward Qin Sijing. “Then Teacher Qin, regarding this accidental discovery Teacher Jiang mentioned, do you have anything to say?”
“Heh,” Qin Sijing spread her hands and smiled. “Because I’m afraid of the dark!”
Her face was completely written with “Please stop asking.”
“Any more questions? If not, we’re going to catch fish!”
“No more, no more…” The PD didn’t dare ask more and handed the fishing spear to Qin Sijing. Qin Sijing turned and walked toward the seaside almost immediately.
Jiang Xunruo remained composed, gave the PD and the camera a slightly helpless smile, and then followed unhurriedly behind Qin Sijing.
