- Chapter 22 - The Unwelcome Guest Part 2 (Manager's Side
The troublesome man left the shop shortly after.
I doubt he’ll ever come back.
In the end, that man never apologized until the very last moment.
His rotten nature probably won’t ever change, no matter how long he lives.
No matter how much love he receives.
No matter how cherished he might be.
That man’s filthy true character will never disappear.
In the end, that man never apologized until the very last moment.
His rotten nature probably won’t ever change, no matter how long he lives.
No matter how much love he receives.
No matter how cherished he might be.
That man’s filthy true character will never disappear.
“Sigh… Sorry about this, but could you sprinkle some salt for me?”
“Yes! Right away!”
I called a former employee and had them sprinkle salt.
Right in front of the shop.
We had to wash away all the filth that man left behind completely.
Maybe the salt sprinkling worked, because the next day, I received a letter from the young mistress for the first time in ages.
Apparently, they’re planning to open a branch store in another country.
She wrote that she’ll be going with the young master.
She said she’ll send lots of souvenirs and told me to look forward to it.
I was happy that she hasn’t changed, and wrote back immediately.
Of course, I didn’t mention anything about that man.
There’s no need for her to know about relics of the past. They’re not even worth thinking about.
If the young mistress can be happy, that’s what matters most.
Well, I didn’t exactly lie.
It’s true that the young mistress and her mother closed the shop.
It’s true that both of them left town.
It’s true that there was a storm of slander and defamation.
And it’s true that I’m the manager of this shop now.
Except… well, I left out the part about being a “hired manager.”
But hey, he never asked. Can’t be helped. It wasn’t something I needed to mention anyway. That man has nothing to do with this shop anymore. No need to kindly tell him every single truth.
The young mistress was beginning to suffer from emotional distress.
The young master was the one who saved her.
I was wary at first since he was that bastard’s friend, but he turned out to be a good man.
He had the same university major as that piece of shit, and they used to hang out together a lot.
Apparently, the young mistress had been introduced to him by that scumbag and they were acquaintances. When he heard she was pregnant, he was so concerned that he came to check on her.
‘I’m also a poor noble like him.’
‘Being the third son, I have to earn my own living.’
‘I’m always second best. I could never measure up to him.’
Even now when I think back, he was such a good person.
Friendly and cheerful.
The young mistress opened up to him quickly.
Even though they were both poor nobles, he was worlds apart from that shitty bastard.
He said he lived almost like a commoner, but good upbringing shows through.
Not in complicated manners or anything.
But in how one thinks, how one sees things.
Those things really do reflect one’s upbringing.
He’s straightforward.
Like how he apologizes immediately when he’s wrong.
He’s a bit timid, but kind.
Genuinely helpful without any hidden motives.
He doesn’t envy or resent people who are better off or more talented than him.
…Hard to believe he was friends with that shitty bastard. He’s a good man.
That’s exactly why.
He’ll treasure the young mistress and her child.
He’ll love them no differently than his own biological children.
If we want the young mistress to be happy, leaving that shitty bastard was absolutely the right decision.
