I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 37
The day after the sports meet, everyone returned to their studies as if the previous day’s festivities had been nothing more than a dream.
Of course, Qin Yuzhen remained as lazy as ever, but at least she stopped sleeping in class now that she was seated in the front row.
The Six-City Joint Examination was highly valued by the teachers. In preparation for it, the school held several mock exams, claiming they were practice runs for the actual test.
Qin Yuzhen could only sigh inwardly.
Naturally, Qin Yuzhen’s exam scores were uniformly impressive: perfect scores in physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and even a perfect score in English once.
Rong Xi used to be astonished by Qin Yuzhen’s grades, but he had long since grown numb to them.
Liang Xuzhou was equally numb. He desperately hoped others would forget about his bet with Qin Yuzhen, but every day someone would ask if he was ready to speak in a hoarse whisper.
Now, he could only pray for a miracle.
The day before the exam, Old Wang even held a special class meeting to help students manage their stress. Qin Yuzhen also received notification about a TV show: she had passed the preliminary selection and advanced to the initial trials. The first recording session was scheduled for the Monday after the mid-month exam.
“Host, you’re not planning to fake illness again, are you?” the System asked.
“Just take a sick leave,” Qin Yuzhen said, stroking her chin. “All we need is to convince Old Wang.”
“What about Rong Xi? She’ll definitely notice and ask. We can’t hide it.”
“Just bluff our way through,” Qin Yuzhen replied.
System: ….
[ The problem is, can you really bluff your way through this time? ] The System thought. It had worked before, but now… it seemed highly doubtful.
Qin Yuzhen remained silent. She knew it would be tricky this time. After all, the little brat had grown shrewd.
For this exam, Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi were assigned to the same testing room on the fourth floor. Qin Yuzhen sat at the very back of the classroom, leaning against the wall.
The Six-City Joint Examination strictly adhered to the college entrance exam schedule, prohibiting early submission of answers.
Since her recent speech, Qin Yuzhen was now well-known throughout the grade. Even the invigilator glanced at her twice as she entered the room.
Qin Yuzhen returned to her seat, propping her chin in her hand.
This time, everyone was pinning their hopes on Qin Yuzhen to secure first place. After all, the fact that the city’s top spot hadn’t changed hands for so long was both humiliating and frustrating for students from similarly ranked schools.
“Good luck, Scholar,” a girl in front of her whispered, turning around.
“Mm-hmm,” Qin Yuzhen nodded. “Good luck to you too.”
“Host, I won’t bother you any further. Good luck on your exam.”
“It’s just the Six-City Joint Examination. Why are you so nervous?” Qin Yuzhen asked, exasperated.
“Well, you’re the village’s hope,” the System replied before abruptly falling silent. It rarely shut up so quickly.
The Chinese language exam paper was handed out, and Qin Yuzhen quickly skimmed the questions.
Compared to the previous test, this one was noticeably easier. She glanced at the essay prompt, which simply stated the keyword “text” without any further instructions. Qin Yuzhen twirled her pen, pondered for a few seconds, and then flipped the paper back to the first page and began answering.
Her writing remained swift and composed, each stroke deliberate and calm.
For the essay, she combined classical and vernacular Chinese, believing her prose to be ornate, meaningful, and tightly focused on the topic. After finishing, she glanced over her work and mentally exclaimed, “What a masterpiece!”
The System several times wanted to scoff, but remembering that Qin Yuzhen was still taking the exam, it held back.
How can someone brag while taking an exam?
Qin Yuzhen roughly checked her answers, then leaned back and fell asleep.
The classmate sitting next to her: …
Felt inexplicably more pressured.
Qin Yuzhen slept soundly, her breathing steady. When the proctor passed by, he paused to observe her for three seconds, initially assuming she was simply resting her eyes. Who could have imagined she was actually asleep, and would remain so until the exam papers were collected?
When Rong Xi slipped over to Qin Yuzhen’s side, she noticed her disheveled appearance, as if she had just woken up.
“You didn’t even check your answers?”
“What’s there to check?” Qin Yuzhen yawned.
Rong Xi looked at her. “What if you accidentally wrote something wrong? You’ll lose points.”
“You’re overthinking it. The exam’s over, so why dwell on it? Let’s go.”
Rong Xi trailed behind Qin Yuzhen. “How can you be so carefree?”
“It’s just an exam, right?” Qin Yuzhen shoved her hands into her pockets.
“True…” Rong Xi glanced at her. “So, Sister, if you don’t score higher than Huo Yaoxu, can you swallow that?”
“I’ll definitely beat him. I swear.” Qin Yuzhen ruffled Rong Xi’s hair. “You do your best too. Even if you don’t match my score, at least surpass Huo Yaoxu.”
Rong Xi: …
When they returned to the classroom, some students were already reviewing. Others had been waiting by Qin Yuzhen’s desk, eager to ask questions. As soon as they saw her enter, they swarmed around her.
“Boss, I still don’t quite understand this part of the question.”
“Lao Qin, about this… this…”
/>
Qin Yuzhen felt drained, and a crowd had gathered around Rong Xi.
“Boss, here, have some water.” Someone opened a bottle and placed it on Qin Yuzhen’s desk.
“Not bad, quite considerate.”
“Of course. I need help with this, this, and this… and also this one, I’m not too sure about it.” The person rustled through their worksheet. “Could you give me a quick tip?”
Qin Yuzhen: …
Old Qian entered the classroom, glanced at the discussion topic, and showed no intention of stopping the students. He was quite content to let them discuss among themselves while he enjoyed the leisure.
After dealing with the students, Qin Yuzhen let out a long sigh and gulped down a mouthful of water.
Fortunately, since everyone was from the Honors Class, their understanding was generally good. A few hints were enough to clarify any confusion for most. Only one or two students were particularly difficult, so stubborn that Qin Yuzhen suspected they were deliberately tormenting her.
“Sister, explain this to me,” Rong Xi said, leaning close to Qin Yuzhen and handing over her worksheet.
“Ask Old Qian.”
“Sister, you explain it to others but not me. Do you have something against me?” Rong Xi sighed, lowering her gaze.
“You’re my boss,” Qin Yuzhen said with a smirk. She glanced at the worksheet, then lowered her voice to explain the problem.
“Got it?”
“Not really.”
Qin Yuzhen explained it again. “Do you understand now?”
“This part…”
“Little sister, if you really can’t grasp it, I suggest giving up. You won’t get the exact same question on the exam, so there’s no point in getting hung up on it.” Qin Yuzhen offered a sympathetic smile.
“Sister, you have no patience at all. Fine, I won’t ask anymore.” Rong Xi pulled her test paper closer.
Qin Yuzhen was about to speak when Old Qian approached their desk.
“What’s the question? You still don’t understand after all that explanation? Let me see.”
Rong Xi: …
Old Qian patiently explained it again. “Is there anything else you don’t understand?”
“I get it now,” Rong Xi said, feeling drained. She glanced sideways and saw Qin Yuzhen watching her with an amused smile.
“What could Xixi possibly be up to? Xixi just wants to talk to her sister more,” Rong Xi said.
Qin Yuzhen averted her gaze. “I need to study. Stop distracting me.”
“Okay, Sister.” Rong Xi said smugly.
Qin Yuzhen noticed Rong Xi’s smug expression and frowned slightly. This wasn’t good. If this continued, Rong Xi would be bossing her around in no time. She needed to take action to maintain her authority as the elder sister.
Though she appeared to be reviewing her notes, Qin Yuzhen had been pondering this question all day, even during the afternoon’s mathematics exam.
This math test was exceptionally difficult, even harder than the previous one. During the exam, some students snapped their pencils in frustration over the challenging questions.
Qin Yuzhen maintained her usual pace, though she used slightly more scratch paper than usual. After finishing the final problem, she put down her pen and glanced around the room. Many students looked as pale as vegetables.
She yawned and leaned back, resting her head on her desk.
Rong Xi discreetly glanced back and saw Qin Yuzhen already asleep. She looked down at her own exam paper and sighed inwardly. The questions were challenging, but still manageable, just not easy.
Over the past few weeks, Rong Xi had been studying with relentless intensity, pouring 200% effort into competing with Qin Yuzhen.
As the exams were collected, a girl in the room burst into tears, deepening the somber atmosphere.
“This test was insane! What the hell was that?”
“Damn, this is ridiculous! Didn’t they promise the joint exam would be easier?”
“Who told you that?”
“Who wrote this exam?”
“I’m screwed! I only managed the first part of the last two major questions.”
“Me too.”
The class glanced at Qin Yuzhen, who was casually tidying her brush case, and the only thought in their minds was, “She’s not human.”
“Sister, what do we do? I didn’t finish,” Rong Xi said, pouting. “I have no idea how to approach the last question of the last two problems.”
“Most people won’t be able to do it. Don’t worry,” Qin Yuzhen said, hands in her pockets.
“Do you think this test was hard?”
“It was alright,” Qin Yuzhen replied calmly, despite knowing the difficulty had increased.
Pei Jingyue, who had rushed to the restroom after the exam, stopped upon hearing Qin Yuzhen’s words. She stared at her for a moment before simply stating, “You’re not human.”
Qin Yuzhen: …
“Do you think you’ll still get a perfect score?”
“Probably,” Qin Yuzhen said.
“Not human,” Rong Xi said, her tone a mix of disdain and envy.
Qin Yuzhen looked down at Rong Xi and playfully tugged at her braid. “How dare you talk to your sister like that?”
