I'm Feng Aotian—And I’m Running Away from My Wedding - Chapter 36
Li Baiying felt as though she had fallen into a beautiful dream.
After experiencing countless indescribable intimate encounters, she and Qin Yixiao even had two lively and adorable daughters.
Just as she held her beloved wife, trying to get a clear look at the children’s faces, the entire scene suddenly shattered like scattered pearls, dissipating piece by piece before her eyes.
“Little one, still in the mood to sleep?”
A basin of cold water drenched her head. Li Baiying groggily opened her eyes and found herself lying on the grass. The sky was shrouded in an unyielding thick fog, and the green flower still emitted a faint, eerie glow.
“What happened to me…?”
She unconsciously rubbed her palms. The delicate, warm sensation of holding her partner seemed to linger on her fingertips, leaving her nostalgic.
For the first time, she wished the dream hadn’t ended so soon.
“Good news, you two have broken the illusion together and have safely returned,” Hong Wang said, noticing her dazed state and assuming she was struggling to adjust to reality. She leisurely explained the situation, “My consciousness did not enter the illusion with you. Only the two of you know what happened inside. But judging by the outcome, you did well. As expected of my disciple.”
“Thank you for your praise, Ancestor.”
Li Baiying replied mechanically, her eyes darting around as she searched for the person who had been by her side in the dream.
Rather than asking how they had ultimately escaped the illusion, she was more curious about what the dream truly meant.
Her memory only went as far as the moment she scattered the medicinal powder toward Qin Zhili. What happened after that was a complete blank.
“Rustle…”
As if sharing a telepathic connection, the young girl adjusted her clothes and stepped out from behind a tree, inadvertently meeting Li Baiying’s fixed gaze.
In that instant, images of their reckless actions after being drugged flashed before her eyes, and she couldn’t help but feel a mix of embarrassment and irritation.
Though it was an illusion, every moment felt incredibly real, as if it had truly happened.
“What happened after I lost consciousness?” Li Baiying asked bluntly as she walked over, her tone filled with curiosity. “How did we finally break free from the illusion?”
“While dealing with the spirit beasts in heat, your cousins accidentally shattered the spirit tablet, inadvertently destroying the formation’s core.”
“Is that even possible?” Li Baiying found it astonishing. However, noticing that Qin Yixiao’s attitude toward her remained unchanged, she couldn’t help but feel a bit unsettled. “I also had a dream-”
“I gave you the antidote,” Qin Yixiao interrupted her uncomfortably. “Let’s not speak of this again.”
“Alright,” Li Baiying replied, though she felt a tinge of regret. Still, she didn’t dwell on it too much. She felt that she was acting strangely, secretly, she actually wished that enchanting dream had been real.
“Where are we heading now…?”
Before she could finish her sentence, two barks echoed from the thick fog nearby. A massive two-headed dog, its eyes as large as bronze bells, came running toward them, drool dripping from its mouths.
“Hmph, where do you think you can run to now?” Qin Mo sneered, commanding over a dozen clansmen. “Form the formation! I want them captured alive to present to my father for a reward!”
In an instant, rolling black mist enveloped them like dark clouds.
“Be careful! This is one of the Qin family’s forbidden techniques, the Soul Refining Array. If that black energy touches you, it can burn your skin at the very least, or at worst, destroy your soul entirely. Those who die in this formation cannot enter the cycle of reincarnation.”
In the face of the crisis, Qin Yixiao had no time to settle the scores from the illusion realm. She lowered her voice and recounted everything she knew.
“The Soul Refining Array, is it?”
Li Baiying remained calm and composed, exuding an air of unshakable poise. Just as the Qin family disciples were nearly finished setting up the array, she suddenly raised her voice and shouted, “Great Master Huan Liu, someone is trying to refine your dandelion!”
“What are you shouting about?” Qin Mo, already grim-faced, grew even more twisted with rage at her audacity. He barked orders at the others, “Hurry! Activate the array now!”
A sinister wind howled, and dark clouds loomed so thickly they seemed capable of dripping ink. The air grew heavy with unsettling, ghostly energy. Countless vengeful spirits gathered, emitting piercing, mournful wails.
Unfazed, Li Baiying shielded Qin Yixiao behind her. Her demonic power surged, forming a fiery red barrier that enveloped them both securely.
“Who dares disturb my slumber?!”
A girl’s voice, clear as a silver bell, rang out, followed by a strange, cackling laugh. “The Soul Refining Array? A nice name, but it doesn’t look like much.”
A burst of green mist erupted like a gushing spring, charging straight into the black energy. In an instant, it devoured the darkness entirely, with the remaining mist surging toward the disciples who were still setting up the array, trapping them firmly within.
A massive flower swayed gently, and the figure of a little girl sat cross-legged atop its bud. She let out a small burp. “The taste is barely acceptable, but it’ll do.”
“Got any other tricks? Show me what you’ve got.”
“Who… who are you?” Qin Mo stammered, torn between shock and fear. He no longer cared about Li Baiying and the others, his mind now consumed by the urge to flee.
Just as he tossed his two-headed hound forward and turned to run, a flash of fiery red light sliced across his neck.
“Swish!”
In the next moment, blood gushed forth. A headless corpse staggered forward two steps before its knees buckled, collapsing lifelessly to the ground.
Li Baiying calmly sheathed her blade, her entire ambush executed with seamless fluidity, without a moment’s hesitation.
“Not bad, not bad. Now that’s a proper finale,” Huan Liu clapped and laughed, her green mist swirling to form a passageway.
“Juniors, you’d better leave before I change my mind. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee you won’t end up like them.”
“Thank you, Senior, for saving us!”
Li Baiying grabbed Qin Yixiao’s wrist and, after hastily uttering her thanks, dashed out of the mist without a second’s delay.
She had already persuaded Huan Liu to open the illusion realm so she could rescue someone. Now that they were out, she had borrowed the senior’s influence to fend off the Qin family’s pursuers. She knew better than to ask for more.
The moment they stepped beyond the mist’s boundary, a series of agonized screams erupted behind them, sending chills down their spines.
Then, everything fell silent once more.
“With all that commotion, the pursuers at the cliff bottom must have heard it,” Hong Wang remarked with a tone of detached amusement, chuckling lightly. “What’s your plan now, junior?”
“Keep running, build our strength, and strike back when the time is right.”
Li Baiying answered without hesitation. “I just killed Qin Mo, the son of the Qin family’s current patriarch, Elder Qin San. I’m afraid more will come after us.”
“But ever since they plotted against my family, we’ve been mortal enemies. This is just a small appetizer, the main course is yet to come.”
“I have a suggestion that can both help you shake off your pursuers and build up your strength. Would you like to hear it?”
The woman drawled lazily, finally deciding to stop keeping her in suspense.
