I’m Face-Blind, But I Devoted Myself To Three Guys - Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Quite Cute.
He thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep with someone extra in the room, but surprisingly, it was a dreamless night.
The first thing Chi Hui did when he woke up was glance at the side of his bed.
Good, no one there.
He rested his arm loosely over his eyes for a moment to wake up, unable to help being amused by his own instinctive reaction.
Last night, in the middle of the night just as he was entering deep sleep, he vaguely felt something touching his face.
At first, he thought it was a dream—until that soft, warm thing covered his nose and mouth. His breathing became restricted, causing him to snap his eyes open, only to see a large, shapeless black shadow hunched by the side of the bed.
Chi Hui was genuinely startled. He sat up abruptly and clicked on the small bedside lamp.
Once he calmed down, he realized the shadow wasn’t a strange creature, but Qi Xu wrapped in a quilt.
For some reason, the person who had been sleeping perfectly fine on the floor mat had crawled to the bedside to touch him, and after finishing, had simply fallen asleep leaning against the edge of the bed.
Chi Hui glanced at the arm resting beside him—the culprit that had made it hard to breathe just moments ago.
He grasped Qi Xu’s slender wrist and gave it a tug: “Uncomfortable sleeping on the floor?”
The person leaning there didn’t respond; his breathing remained even and long. He was clearly still dead to the world.
To wake someone else up while sleeping so soundly himself… Chi Hui laughed in exasperation. Being a bit petty, he tickled the center of Qi Xu’s palm.
Harassed in his sleep, Qi Xu immediately curled his fingers and instinctively pulled his arm back. He failed, so he just miserably turned his head the other way on his arm.
Chi Hui found it funny and poked him twice more.
The sleeping person was as soft as a cotton doll; no matter how much he was messed with, there was no sign of waking. When he got too annoyed, he just grumbled and buried himself deeper.
Chi Hui watched for a while, then simply cupped Qi Xu’s chin and lifted his head.
“What are you doing? Trying to steal my nest, or acting pitiful?” Chi Hui asked, knowing full well he couldn’t hear.
However, as soon as the words left his mouth, the quilt draped over Qi Xu slid down his back.
Perhaps because the warmth had been taken away, those two rows of long, thick eyelashes trembled, and his eyes struggled to open.
But Qi Xu’s eyes were still misty; he wasn’t fully awake.
Chi Hui instinctively slowed his breathing, watching him quietly without moving.
Qi Xu tilted his head back, eyes opening and closing, opening and closing—repeatedly bargaining with the Sandman.
Seeing this, Chi Hui silently turned off the bedside lamp again.
The room fell back into a darkness suitable for sleep.
Qi Xu lost the negotiation and closed his eyes completely. Just as Chi Hui thought he would go back to sleep, the head cupped in his palm struggled to lift again.
Qi Xu braced himself against the bed and struggled to raise his hand.
Chi Hui was curious about what he was doing and remained sitting upright and still.
The hand groped in the darkness twice and soon found Chi Hui’s cheek. The fingertips moved upward, finally stopping at his brow bone.
It wasn’t until the warm palm pressed against his forehead that Chi Hui realized: he was checking his temperature. He must have been worried about those two fake coughs from earlier.
Chi Hui stared blankly at the person who couldn’t even keep his eyes open. His lips moved slightly, but no words came out.
The palm tested his forehead for a while. Finding nothing abnormal, the mission-accomplished Qi Xu withdrew his hand with satisfaction.
Before Chi Hui could react, Qi Xu grabbed the quilt that had slid to his feet, wrapped himself up again, and curled back into his little nest.
Chi Hui stared at the silhouette curled into a little hill with its back to him, and slowly lifted his hand to touch his own forehead.
The temperature and touch that didn’t belong to him seemed to linger there.
…
The sky outside the window had just begun to brighten.
Through the gap in his arm, Chi Hui glanced at the person still sleeping soundly on the floor and couldn’t help but touch his forehead again.
It was 6:30 AM. Most people weren’t up yet. Xu Changshu had said last night he would arrive at 8:30, so there was no need to get up so early.
But Chi Hui was completely wide awake. He lay there for a bit longer before sitting up.
He stepped onto Qi Xu’s bedding on the floor, testing his weight with his right foot.
Compared to the wrist injury, the ankle was just a sprain. After being forced into a wheelchair for the past half-month, the ankle had recovered very quickly.
Just then, the person curled in the quilt rolled over, turning from his back to face the side of the bed.
Chi Hui’s attention was involuntarily drawn to the person on the floor.
Qi Xu liked to bury his head while sleeping; currently, only half his face was visible. The room was warm, and since he was wrapped up so tightly, a thin layer of sweat had formed on his forehead, sticking to a few strands of hair.
Chi Hui leaned over, watching for a while, and couldn’t help but reach out to brush the sweaty hair away.
Sensing someone, Qi Xu’s eyelashes flickered.
Chi Hui’s movement froze until he was sure Qi Xu hadn’t been woken before continuing to tuck the remaining strands away.
His gaze moved down from the smooth forehead and landed on Qi Xu’s straight eyelashes.
He had noticed a long time ago—Qi Xu’s eyelashes were very long and thick, but they weren’t the curled type. They were straight like pine needles, covering half his eyes when he looked down and making them look innocent and pure when he blinked.
Chi Hui was staring so intently that by the time he realized it, he was squatting beside Qi Xu.
His fingers unconsciously toyed with those long lashes.
“Mmh.” Perhaps uncomfortable, Qi Xu buried his head a bit into the quilt, dodging Chi Hui’s hand.
But his grumbling expression of dissatisfaction was like a little puppy.
Quite cute.
The thought flashed through his mind. Chi Hui suddenly stiffened while staring at the top of Qi Xu’s head. It took him a long while to realize how out-of-line his behavior and how absurd his thoughts were.
He guiltily withdrew his hand, staring at the person on the floor with a heavy expression.
“…” Something’s wrong. Nine out of ten—no, ten out of ten things are wrong.
Chi Hui hurriedly averted his gaze and stood up quickly, taking a step back. However, he didn’t realize that under that flat section of quilt was Qi Xu’s stretched-out arm.
Although he tried to pull back his weight as soon as he felt the wrong sensation under his foot, he still stepped on the sleeping person and woke him up.
“?” Qi Xu sat up abruptly, clutching the quilt, blinking his sore eyes and looking up blankly at the man standing before him.
His palm felt a bit numb. Qi Xu rubbed it, then looked at Chi Hui and asked sincerely: “Why did you step on me?”
Chi Hui had intended to retreat silently, but instead, he had startled him awake. He ran a hand through his hair and spoke in a tone of self-abandonment: “Tsk, who knows? Maybe I got up early just to step on you.”
Qi Xu wasn’t fully awake to begin with, and hearing this made his brain stall. He tilted his head, even the tuft of hair sticking up at the back seemed full of question marks: “???”
Regardless, that step marked the start of a new day, and both of them got ready and got out of bed.
“Don’t wipe it, wear this.” Chi Hui handed over a clean jacket.
Qi Xu was still trying to rescue his old clothes and looked up at the words.
“Those clothes need to be washed; they’ll be sent to the dry cleaners with mine. Change into this for now.”
The water they were splashed with yesterday carried mud. It wasn’t obvious at first, but after it dried, it left dark stains on the clothes that wouldn’t wipe off.
Qi Xu had been waiting for this. Seeing the offer, he immediately dropped the dirty clothes and happily took the jacket to change.
The clothes didn’t fit, but oversize was in style, so it didn’t look too out of place. Plus, since it came with “Simp Points,” Qi Xu was very satisfied.
Chi Hui watched Qi Xu’s calm and happy back for several moments before he couldn’t hold back: “Do you remember what you did last night?”
The person who was secretly checking his Simp Points froze and looked back hesitantly: “…Me?” Did I cause trouble again last night? But the Simp Points went up quite a bit.
Seeing his blank expression, Chi Hui knew he didn’t remember. For some reason, he felt vaguely annoyed, as if the joy of that moment was his solitary hallucination.
But realizing he was annoyed over such a trivial matter made Chi Hui even more annoyed.
So, despite doing nothing all morning, Qi Xu was met with a bellyful of Chi Hui’s irritation.
Qi Xu sensed the low pressure and didn’t dare speak much, but he couldn’t help feeling a bit wronged.
He was the one who got stepped on this morning, and he wasn’t even angry.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Xu Changshu arrived.
He was surprised as soon as he opened the door and saw Qi Xu: “Xiao Xu, you’re here so early?”
Qi Xu blinked: “I came yesterday.”
At those words, Xu Changshu was even more shocked and couldn’t help but look at Chi Hui.
This difficult-to-serve master actually let someone stay the night.
Xu Changshu couldn’t help but see Qi Xu in a new light. However, if he knew that Qi Xu hadn’t just stayed the night but had actually slept in Chi Hui’s room, he would probably be enshrining Qi Xu on an altar while simultaneously dragging Chi Hui to drink some holy water.
Today’s filming location was a bit far, about a two-hour drive. The three of them plus a driver hit the road.
When passing a food street, Chi Hui had Xu Changshu go buy some breakfast for everyone.
However, the driver, Xiao Li, couldn’t eat while driving, Xu Changshu had eaten at home before coming, and Chi Hui didn’t eat either. In the end, all that breakfast went to Qi Xu.
Qi Xu was overwhelmed by the amount of food that far exceeded his appetite, but he looked curiously at Chi Hui: “Aren’t you going to eat?”
Chi Hui leaned back in his seat, resting with his eyes closed: “Eat your own.”
Xu Changshu sat in the passenger seat, looked back at the two of them, and proactively explained to Qi Xu: “Chi Hui usually doesn’t eat in the morning during work. He needs to control his diet to look good on camera.”
Qi Xu bit into a custard bun, looking at Xu Changshu then at Chi Hui.
Given what happened yesterday, he began to suspect Chi Hui was being bullied again.
“But skipping breakfast is bad for the stomach,” Qi Xu said to Xu Changshu, his tone exceptionally serious.
The nature of a celebrity’s work meant they couldn’t fully prioritize their health. Xu Changshu gave a helpless twitch of his lip, not knowing how to respond.
But the other’s silence made Qi Xu even more suspicious. So, he poked a straw into some sugar-free soy milk and, from an angle Xu Changshu couldn’t see, secretly held it up to Chi Hui’s mouth.
“Shh.” Qi Xu held a finger to his lips, signaling Chi Hui not to make a sound.
“It’s okay to drink a little,” he mouthed to the man beside him.
Chi Hui: “…” He had no idea what mischief Qi Xu was up to now.
Qi Xu held the soy milk in one hand and used the other to peel a cute pig-shaped custard bun for him: “Quietly.”
“…” It took Chi Hui a moment to realize Qi Xu misunderstood and thought he was being forced by Xu Changshu to skip breakfast.
Looking at the nervous yet clever person, he couldn’t help but find it funny, but he enjoyed the feeling of being included in Qi Xu’s “protection circle.”
Qi Xu was a bit stunned seeing the man with a slight smile.
He rarely saw such a pure smile on Chi Hui’s face.
While Qi Xu was dazed, Chi Hui had already leaned down and bitten off the pig’s ear from his hand.
“Too sweet,” Chi Hui evaluated with a frown after chewing twice.
Hearing his voice, Xu Changshu instinctively turned around: “What?”
“!” Seeing Xu Changshu look back, Qi Xu was terrified of being caught. He immediately withdrew his hand and, as a cover-up, stuffed the custard bun into his own mouth.
He glared at Xu Changshu guardedly, his round eyes staring so intensely that the back of Xu Changshu’s neck started to sweat.
“…” Xu Changshu turned back around. After a few seconds of awkwardness, he couldn’t help but send a text to Chi Hui.
[Did I do something wrong to offend Xiao Xu?]
Chi Hui glanced at the text, didn’t reply, and turned off the screen.
Propping up his temple, he watched the vigilant Qi Xu and let out a light chuckle.
Qi Xu didn’t understand why he was laughing. Taking advantage of the gap while Xu Changshu was doubting himself, he secretly handed him another bun and whispered: “This one is crab roe and tofu, it’s not sweet.”
Chi Hui’s eyes darkened as he looked at the pig custard bun in Qi Xu’s mouth—the one with only half a head left.
For some reason, he suddenly felt like eating something sweet again.
