Chapter 30: “We’re both men, there’s nothing wrong with looking…”
Chi Hui leaned against the bathroom door, staring at the overly pink bath. He didn’t really want to go in.
Seeing him remain stationary, Qi Xu had no choice but to stand up and walk over. He stopped in front of Chi Hui and held the little yellow duck up to his face.
“So you like this kind of thing,” Qi Xu said, giving the duck a squeeze.
“Squeak—” The flattened yellow duck let out a long cry.
Chi Hui: “…”
Qi Xu tilted his head, staring at the child-like toy he had unpacked from the bath bomb set. He didn’t say anything, but his face gave him away.
I really couldn’t tell.
With his thoughts written all over his face, Chi Hui immediately knew what he was thinking, and his temple throbbed.
Of course you couldn’t tell; I didn’t know either.
Blame Xu Changshu for buying things without looking; he must have bought a children’s set by mistake.
“It’s okay, I like it too,” Qi Xu said, seeing Chi Hui’s “done with life” expression and assuming he was being shy.
Chi Hui didn’t even want to waste breath explaining. He looked at the steamy bathroom again, brushed past Qi Xu, and walked in. Turning his back to the door, he began to unbutton his clothes.
However, after he had undone most of the buttons, he didn’t hear the door close. He looked back in confusion and saw that not only had Qi Xu not left, but he had followed him in.
“?” Chi Hui turned around, left hand on his hip, and frowned at him.
“…”
In the small, misty space, the two stared at each other for a full two or three minutes. No one spoke.
Finally, Qi Xu blinked, thinking he understood: “Is it because it’s inconvenient to unbutton your clothes with one hand? I’ll help you.”
As he spoke, he quickly reached out and grabbed the front of Chi Hui’s shirt, deftly undoing the remaining buttons in a few strokes.
By the time Chi Hui snapped out of his daze, his shirt was completely open.
Cool fingertips, whether intentionally or not, brushed lightly across the skin of his abdomen. The slight stimulus triggered a shiver, and the abs he had maintained through years of exercise immediately tensed, revealing deep contours.
Seeing Qi Xu’s hand continuing to move downward, Chi Hui immediately gritted his teeth and raised his hand to stop him.
Qi Xu blinked at his pinned hand, then slowly looked up. His gaze swept over the half-exposed abs and finally landed on the other man’s face.
“Do you really not consider yourself an outsider?” This was the first time Chi Hui had encountered someone who touched others so casually.
Most importantly, he actually hadn’t reacted in time, allowing the other person to succeed. This guy’s hands were way too fast.
“But it’s inconvenient for you with one hand,” Qi Xu argued softly in his own defense.
Chi Hui laughed out of sheer frustration: “Then why didn’t you say it was inconvenient when I was cooking earlier?”
“…” Now it was Qi Xu’s turn to be silent.
He couldn’t help it; he truly had no talent for cooking. He had tried to learn simple dishes from the housekeeper before, but the very first step—putting the food in the pan—had defeated him.
When hot oil met water, it splattered everywhere. Qi Xu’s reaction was even more dramatic than the oil’s; he would jump three feet high and practically wanted to hold an umbrella in the kitchen.
“We’re both men, there’s nothing wrong with looking, right?” Qi Xu muttered, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt.
They were standing very close, and Chi Hui heard every word: “…Then why don’t you let me look at you?”
Qi Xu looked up, his eyes shimmering: “Do you want to see?”
Chi Hui: “…”
Fine. He was now certain that this person had no sense of boundaries and no sense of shame.
Watching Qi Xu purse his lips with an eager expression, Chi Hui looked up at the ceiling and sighed silently: “Forget it. Get out. I don’t need help with this.”
“I can help scrub your back,” Qi Xu said, unwilling to give up this opportunity, promoting himself vigorously. “I can do massages, too.”
Chi Hui stared expressionlessly for two seconds at the person who was shamelessly refusing to leave. Finally, he just took action. He grabbed Qi Xu by the chin and spun him around.
“See that door? Please leave. And close it on your way out.”
Qi Xu gripped the other’s hand and pouted, clearly reluctant. Chi Hui ignored his wishes and forced him out.
With a bang, the bathroom door closed behind him. The force was so strong that the wind it created lifted the hair on the back of Qi Xu’s head. Then came the crisp sound of the lock turning.
Qi Xu turned around unwillingly, staring at the frosted glass door, his hands clenching unconsciously.
“Squeak—” The little yellow duck still in his palm cried out again.
Qi Xu looked down at the plastic duck as it slowly regained its shape, then looked up at the frosted door and patted it.
“What now?” Chi Hui asked, frowning at the sound.
Qi Xu: “You didn’t take your little duck in with you.”
“…” Chi Hui almost rolled his eyes.
Qi Xu waited for a while, but there was no further response. He lowered his eyelashes with a hint of regret.
That was the male lead’s naked body! If I could have helped him bathe, it should have been worth a lot of Lickspittle Points. It might even have been more valuable than helping Xie Chengyan with his ‘physiological needs’ that day.
Qi Xu leaned against the bathroom door and slowly slid down to a sitting position, idly squeezing the yellow duck.
The hot water soothed the soreness in Chi Hui’s muscles. He let out a sigh of relief, but before he could close his eyes to rest, a rhythmic, “half-dead” whistling sound came from outside the door.
“Squeak—” “Squeak—“
“…” Chi Hui turned his head toward the door and saw a dark shadow curled up against the frosted glass.
After playing by himself for a while, Qi Xu probably got bored again. He suddenly turned to a kneeling position and gripped the door with both hands: “Did you forget to take your change of clothes in?”
Chi Hui glanced at the bathrobe folded on the shelf and said nothing.
“I’ll go get them for you.” Undeterred by the lack of response, Qi Xu immediately scrambled up and headed for the balcony.
Without the owner’s permission, he didn’t want to rummage through the bedroom. Fortunately, the clothes he had hung out this morning were still there. He returned with the clothes and tried the door handle.
As expected, it was locked.
“Do you want me to bring the clothes in?” Qi Xu asked, leaning against the door.
The person inside seemed determined to ignore him.
Qi Xu pouted: “Fine, I’ll wait for you outside the door then.”
Chi Hui stared at the door and watched as the shadow crouched down again into a small ball.
“You can’t soak for too long.” “Be careful not to let the injured parts touch the water.”
Qi Xu’s mouth didn’t stay idle while he sat outside. His clinginess made Chi Hui hallucinate a cat scratching at the door during a bath.
Bored, Qi Xu unfolded and refolded the clothes in his hands over and over. Looking at a hole in the dark trousers, he suddenly felt it was strange.
He got so lost in thought that he didn’t notice the sound of water moving or the approaching footsteps inside.
“Why would someone wear ripped pants in this weather?”
Just as he finished speaking, the door he was leaning on was suddenly pulled open. Losing his support, Qi Xu fell backward.
In his panic, he could only close his eyes and clutch the clothes tightly. However, the expected impact of his head hitting the floor didn’t happen; he was braced by something hard.
Qi Xu slowly opened one eye and met another pair of beautiful, sharp eyes.
Chi Hui looked down at the person leaning against his leg and finally let out a helpless sigh.
Qi Xu tilted his head back and blinked. Only then did he realize Chi Hui was wearing a bathrobe. His clean hair hadn’t been dried yet, and water was dripping from the tips.
One drop happened to land on the corner of Qi Xu’s lip. He instinctively stuck out his tongue and licked it, pulling the small droplet into his mouth.
A very fresh jasmine white tea flavor.
This scene was caught by Chi Hui. His originally calm expression flashed with a sudden burst of surprise and flusteredness.
Qi Xu was still spaced out, pursing his lips. He wondered if this counted as “drinking the male god’s bathwater.”
“…Get up.” Chi Hui regained his composure and nudged the person leaning on him with his knee.
Qi Xu used the floor to push himself up.
Chi Hui brushed past him but couldn’t help glancing at the ripped pants in his hand: “Throw those pants away.”
“?” Qi Xu was puzzled. “They’re fine, why throw them away?” He had just washed them.
Chi Hui took a bottle of ice water from the fridge and couldn’t help being sarcastic: “Do the ripped pants in your house have holes that go all the way to the outer thigh?”
Qi Xu blinked again and looked at the pants. Sure enough, besides the knee, there was a hole on the side of the right thigh.
“Is this fashion?” It seemed like this design would easily reveal one’s underwear.
Chi Hui paused mid-drink. He was starting to suspect if Qi Xu was playing dumb, but seeing his serious face, he realized the boy truly hadn’t noticed.
“I ripped those when I fell last night. I planned to throw them away but didn’t have time.”
He had gone out for a jog last night and happened to encounter a stubborn kid skateboarding after the snow. Seeing that the kid couldn’t brake and was about to tumble down a two or three-meter slope, Chi Hui instinctively reached out to grab him. As a result, he acted as a cushion for the kid, and they slid down the slope together. Although the kid only got a few scratches, Chi Hui’s hand and leg injuries were more serious.
Hearing this, Qi Xu instinctively looked at the man’s leg. The right ankle visible under the bathrobe was also wrapped in bandages. It seemed last night’s fall was quite bad.
“Don’t keep standing, sit down quickly.” Qi Xu realized late that the leg injury was worse than he thought. No wonder Xu Changshu emphasized it.
Chi Hui found his sudden nervousness a bit funny and sat on the sofa as requested.
After that, the two went back and forth for a long time. Finally, unable to withstand Qi Xu’s persistent pestering, he gave in and let him blow-dry his hair.
…
Soon it was time to get off work. Before leaving, Qi Xu scratched his cheek: “I’ll bring a wheelchair for you tomorrow.”
Chi Hui: “…” It really wasn’t that serious.
Not long after Qi Xu left, Chi Hui was sitting on the sofa playing with his phone out of boredom. He suddenly felt something was missing.
It was too quiet.
He frowned and stayed silent for a long while, but eventually, he turned on the TV. The previous variety show was over, but luckily the current one was just as noisy and lively. It was perfect.
However, fifteen minutes after Qi Xu left, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Chi Hui frowned as he went to open the door, thinking it was Xu Changshu. When the door opened, it was Qi Xu, wrapped up tightly.
It seemed it had started snowing again. After a trip outside, a layer of crystalline snowflakes had settled on his clothes and hair.
His eyes, the only part visible, curved slightly. Qi Xu held up a bag in front of Chi Hui: “I bought some medicine for you. There’s pain relief ointment and medicine for bruising. Applying some before bed should make you feel better.”
His voice was muffled under the scarf but remained sincere. Chi Hui took the bag after a half-beat delay.
“So, can we exchange contact info now?” Qi Xu shook his phone, smiling exceptionally beautifully.
…
Taking the elevator down, Qi Xu happily looked at the new friend notification. He had finally collected the contact information for all three male leads.
To distinguish them, he added detailed characteristic labels to each. While he was busy with this, a new message popped up on his contact page.
Are you at home now?
