- Chapter 15 - Helping with the Photos
“It looks better if I tie your hands behind your back!”
The shop assistants, Xiao Ma, Xiao Hui, and Shan Juncheng, who was silently expressing his desire for overtime, all dropped their cleaning tools and looked at Ji Yan.
Xiao Ma blinked his large eyes and asked, “What beautiful leg animation?”
Xiao Hui added, “Can we watch it?”
“Leave the rest of the cleaning to me. You two can head home now,” Shan Juncheng said as he took away their mops and buckets, promptly shooing them out.
“But Sister Yan has not given the word yet!” Xiao Ma protested with his hands on his hips.
“It is fine, it is fine. We are closing up,” Ji Yanyan said with a smile and a wave of her hand. “Go ahead; you have worked hard. Tomorrow, the shop will offer you both free coffee.”
The two of them instantly forgot about the legs and left happily.
Ji Yan was pushed into the lounge by his cousin, but she stopped and reconsidered. “The background in the lounge does not have enough of a distressed feel. Let us go to the warehouse instead.”
Ji Yan was speechless. What on earth was a distressed feel?
“Alright,” Ji Yanyan said. “Wait in the warehouse while I go borrow something.”
“Borrow what?”
“You will know when I bring it back.”
Ji Yanyan walked outside toward Shan Juncheng and said, “Brother Shan, I need to borrow something from you.”
“What do you want to borrow?” Shan Juncheng asked.
“Do you not have spare white shirts? Borrow me one of your shirts.”
“Are you going to wear it?”
“It is not for me.”
“Then no.”
“I will buy it!”
“Not for sale.”
“I will fire you.”
“I will give it to you for free.”
“That is more like it.”
Shan Juncheng walked to the staff lounge in the back, opened his locker, and took out a neatly ironed shirt. He handed it to Ji Yanyan and said, “Here.”
“Thanks,” Ji Yanyan said, but then added, “Could you let go?”
Shan Juncheng released his grip. Ji Yanyan smiled, turned toward the warehouse, and muttered to herself that Shan Juncheng was a very strange man.
Ji Yan stood in front of the storage shelves, looking at the white shirt. “Sister, Brother Shan’s shirt is too big. It will not fit me.”
“Are you stupid?” Ji Yanyan laughed. “If it fit you perfectly, I would not have borrowed it. It has to be oversized and translucent to be alluring. It needs to hide just enough to spark curiosity.”
Ji Yan understood every word, but the concepts were difficult for him to grasp. What did she mean by alluring or hiding just enough?
“Hurry up. Take off your T-shirt and put on the white shirt. Take your pants off too,” Ji Yanyan urged him.
Ji Yan had a feeling that what was about to happen would be a major stain on his life. He held the shirt and moved with great difficulty.
Ji Yanyan turned her back to him. “I am not looking. You have to decide for yourself. If you want to wrap that scumbag around your finger, you have to show some sincerity. You must use every tactic available. If you cannot get over this hurdle, then forget it.”
“I know. I will change,” Ji Yan muttered. The shirt was brand new and still had the tags on it.
“Sister, is it really okay to use Brother Shan’s new shirt like this?”
“It is fine; he gave it to me.”
“This is a luxury brand. I went into one of their shops with Dad last year. A single shirt costs over four thousand yuan.”
“What?” Ji Yanyan spun around in shock. “Four thousand yuan for a shirt? That is highway robbery!”
Ji Yan had already taken off his T-shirt. Seeing his cousin’s surprise, he asked, “Sister, should I still wear it?”
“Wear it,” Ji Yanyan said while rubbing her temples. “I will take it to the dry cleaners later and return it to him.”
“Okay.”
The two stared at each other. Ji Yanyan raised an eyebrow. Ji Yan made a gesture and said, “Sister, turn around.”
A few minutes later, Ji Yan was ready. He had taken off his denim shorts. The shirt was at least two sizes too large, and the hem barely covered the bottom of his hips.
Ji Yan felt unnatural and cleared his throat. “What do I do next?”
Ji Yanyan looked him up and down. “You cannot just stand there. You need a pose. Turn around and face the shelves, then look back over your shoulder.”
“I cannot show my face.”
“Right, right. The head does not matter; look wherever you want. Now, grab the shelves with both hands.”
“Like this?” Ji Yan followed her instructions.
“Yes.”
Ji Yan took a deep breath. “Just take the photo.”
Ji Yanyan clicked her tongue. “I still feel like something is missing.”
“What else could be missing?” Ji Yan was surprised. He was starting to understand the scene his cousin wanted to create. She wanted to use the enclosed warehouse and the human body to express a sense of being controlled or confined, creating a provocative allure to hook the target.
However, this was beyond his comfort zone. He felt the heat from his cheeks spreading to the tips of his ears.
Ji Yanyan stepped forward and intentionally wrinkled the perfectly ironed shirt. She then told Ji Yan to take off his sneakers but keep his white socks on. Finally, she found a piece of black rope in the corner.
Ji Yan was speechless.
“Come here,” Ji Yanyan said while holding the rope. “I will tie your hands behind your back. It will look much better.”
Ji Yan’s face turned from dark to red. “Can I stop now?”
“You want to stop at this point?” Ji Yanyan clutched her chest. “Your sister is going to have a heart attack!”
“Fine, just take it.”
“Good. Listen to me. You cannot just stand still. You need to move, like you are resisting or struggling. Do you understand?”
Ji Yan did not want to understand at all.
“Alright,” Ji Yanyan said. “Let us begin!”
The camera shook slightly. The screen first showed large boxes of coffee beans and crates of mineral water stacked in the warehouse. Then, a foot in a white sock slowly appeared in the corner of the frame. When the foot was caught on camera, it hurriedly pulled away. The camera followed closely, bringing it back into view.
With nowhere to hide, the foot in the white sock stepped over a pair of plush rabbit ear slippers on the floor. One could see that the sock was already slightly stained by the dust on the ground. The camera panned up to show a pair of fair, smooth calves that were trembling slightly.
For some reason, the legs stepped forward and bumped into a shelf. The camera suddenly moved upward, exposing the long legs beneath the white shirt. In the dim light, the skin took on a provocative, flushed pink hue that was breathtakingly beautiful.
The back of the shirt was even more wrinkled because the hands were tied with the black rope and were struggling incessantly. Red marks were already visible on the wrists from the friction. Due to the struggle, the hem of the shirt swayed, threatening to reveal even more of the hidden scenery.
After the set was finished, Ji Yan changed back into his own clothes. He sat on a stool in the warehouse and refused to look up.
“Sister, only you know about this video. Do not tell Guo Jia or Chen Zhansen. I cannot afford to lose face like this.”
“I know, I know. Look at how red your face is! Hahaha!”
“Stop laughing.”
As soon as they left the warehouse, Shan Juncheng was standing right outside the door. Ji Yanyan almost bumped into him. “Why are you standing there like a ghost? You scared me!”
Shan Juncheng said, “It is very late now. I will drive you both home.”
Ji Yan knew that Shan Juncheng lived in their direction, so he did not refuse. “Thanks, Brother Shan.”
The three of them left the shop and pulled down the shutters. When they got home around 10:00 PM, Ji Yan received a call from Guo Jia asking if he was coming to the karaoke bar. They were going out for a late night snack afterward. He declined the invitation. After taking a shower, he sat down to message the scumbag.
He had already checked the video. It did not show his face or any identifiable features that would reveal he was a boy. He sent the video over, his ears still slightly red. He cursed under his breath and immediately flipped his phone over.
At Nanhua City First People’s Hospital, Zhuo Yu’ang had just woken up from anesthesia. His appendix was in an unusual position, so the surgery had taken nearly two hours, followed by twenty minutes in the recovery room. A nurse was giving him post operative instructions and repeatedly told him to notify his family to come.
“I will leave your phone and watch here for you. Remember, you need care after surgery. It is best to have a family member look after you,” the nurse said before leaving the room.
Zhuo Yu’ang’s complexion was pale after the surgery, but he remained indifferent to the idea of notifying his family. His eyes held no trace of concern. It was just a minor laparoscopic procedure; it was not as if he were disabled.
His phone buzzed. Zhuo Yu’ang reached for it on the bedside table. There were seven missed calls from Ji Han. He called him back, and a loud voice immediately roared from the other end.
“Lao Zhuo, are you hospitalized? I heard it from someone while playing ball tonight! Is it true? Which hospital are you in? I called you and you did not answer!”
“It is true,” Zhuo Yu’ang said. “I was in surgery. How could I answer your phone?”
“Damn! Hurry up and give me the address! I am coming over right now.”
“There is no need. It is just an appendectomy, not a death sentence.”
“What kind of talk is that? Stop talking nonsense! Give me the address and room number!”
“Fine.”
Zhuo Yu’ang gave him the address and hung up. He then checked his messages. There were over a dozen notifications from Ji Han, his club groups, and the younger brother.
The provocative video suddenly flashed before his eyes. His breathing hitched involuntarily.
