If I Throw Myself into His Sea - Episode 1.33
Irene approached him as if possessed. A familiar energy flowed out with each step she took.
Inside the cave, a familiar voice was calling for Irene.
“Ruine!”
To be exact, it was Irene’s former name, Ruine. The only one who knew that name was Pereian.
As expected, the owner of the voice was, of course, Pereian.
“…Ian?”
Irene responded reflexively. Even as she did, the distance to the entrance of the underwater cave gradually narrowed.
What was strange was that it was not the voice of a younger Pereian, but the voice that the current Pereian would make.
“Have you finally come to my sea?”
Irene knew that the current Pereian would never call her Ruine, unlike in the past.
From the start, it seemed to Irene that he had forgotten Ruine. So that name would never come out of Pereian’s mouth.
“How is it, is this sea kind to you?”
Pereian’s voice flowed out endlessly.
“I’m sorry, Ruine. For cutting off contact so suddenly.”
Moreover, Pereian would never speak to her in such a gentle voice, but Irene couldn’t control her trembling pupils.
Irene recalled Ian saying that this sea would be kind to her. The question was back to square one.
Perhaps, Pereian Richard and Ian were completely different people. Yes, Ian always said he lived in dark places.
If the Pereian in the underwater palace was someone else who resembled him, and the real Ian was living in that underwater cave. If he had left his abusive family and become independent outside of Deltia.
Unlike Pereian, who didn’t recognize Ruine, Irene recognized the fully grown Ruine at a glance even inside the underwater cave, and was calling out to him so affectionately.
An absurd fantasy consumed Irene. Her steps continued towards the cave. In her head, she knew Pereian was Ian from the past, but a part of her heart kept wanting to deny it. The impulse stemming from the desire for Ian not to have forgotten her moved Irene.
‘It’s a cave, but there’s no echo.’
With the last step ahead, Irene, who discerned the strangely clear voice, stopped again.
“Irene!”
“Ruine, come in quickly. It’s sure to be warm here.”
In an instant, Ian’s voice was heard from two places. Behind her, a voice calling for Irene, and in front, a voice urging Ruine.
The call of the underwater lord Pereian, coming from afar. Reacting to that sound, Irene flinched so much that she twisted her ankle. Because of the sway, her upper body leaned forward. The entrance to the underwater cave was before Irene’s eyes.
At that moment, Irene could confirm the identity of Ian inside the underwater cave. It wasn’t Ian. An unknown demon was hiding its body inside the cave, with its mouth open.
‘I’m going to be eaten.’
Teeth were visible. As if it had already devoured countless lives in this way, bones were scattered everywhere. Knowing that she would be eaten as she was, Irene couldn’t avoid it. Her upper body was already leaning forward, so she was bound to fall.
Irene tightly closed her eyes. She didn’t want to die in this sea. Would Pereian even find her corpse? Would she disappear forever like those bones, not even known to whom they belonged?
‘What will happen to Ian if I disappear? Now that the Queen is dead, will he cry a little?’
No, that couldn’t be. Pereian might even be happy. He could give the vacant Queen’s seat to the woman he loves someday.
Irene imagined Pereian performing the palace entry ceremony with his beloved. Unlike the first marriage, when he was made to stand at the entrance of the Coral Palace as if being punished, he would probably hold his lover’s hand, smiling happily as he entered. Should I have disappeared like this sooner?
A hollow laugh escaped her lips. Perhaps he had stopped imitating Ian, as she could hear the growling of the demonic beast in her ear.
‘Ian, I think I’m being punished.’
For deceiving Pereian by pretending to be the noble princess of Epin. No, even before that, for deceiving Ian with a completely different appearance and the name Ruine. It was ridiculous.
To deceive Ian by pretending to be Ruine, and then to be deceived by a demonic beast calling itself Ruine while imitating Ian.
To lose her life like this. Even death is connected to my lies. It felt like she was being punished for all the lies she had told him. Irene opened her tightly closed eyes.
And she turned her head, wanting to see Pereian’s sea one last time. She wanted to make the world ruled by the man she once loved her last memory.
Just then, something was rapidly closing the distance at the edge of Irene’s vision.
‘Another demonic beast? Perhaps it’s trying to fight for food.’
But it’s already too late. A demonic beast will probably kill me soon. Irene closed her eyes again. She had seen Ian’s sea, so she felt content.
“Irene Iphraim!”
It wasn’t the beast’s cry that reached her deafened ears, but Pereian’s voice. This time, it was definitely Pereian’s voice.
Not the affectionate voice the beast had mimicked, but the man’s, who had always been cold to her. She wondered if she was hallucinating before her death, but then a strong force gripped her waist. It felt like someone had snatched her body. Irene opened her eyes wide.
“Are you crazy?”
The one who suddenly appeared and rescued Irene was none other than Pereian. Irene blinked, unable to believe the sight before her. As if frustrated by her dazed look, he wrapped one arm around Irene’s waist and shouted in an angry voice.
“Are you trying to die!”
You begged me to let you live. You said you’d live quietly in my sea, you just asked me to let you live.
It was obvious there was a beast there, so why crawl in? Why didn’t you listen when I called your name? Why didn’t you look back and go into that cave?
Why, after clearly seeing me entering, did you close your eyes again? Why did you have that look of giving up on everything?
“You, are you saying you’re going to die in my sea.”
That can’t happen. If you die, everything will be for naught. Pereian kept muttering to the dazed Irene. A strange light returned to Irene’s eyes. It was a sight she couldn’t believe even after seeing it, but the rough breath on her neck fully restored her captivated mind.
“…Pereian.”
As if something was so unfair, Pereian still held Irene’s waist and gasped for breath. Pereian and Irene looked at each other. Their colliding gazes intertwined hotly. Feeling the force on her captured waist, Irene groaned softly.
